I'm going to go out on a limb here and risk the wrath of fellow Arty Turners. However, I have an opinion about this, and dammit, it's going to be heard. <Deep breath> I don't think of stripping as a feminist act. To me, stripping is just women taking off their clothes for men. Unlike pornography, which is more subjective, it's hard to reinvent this as a daring feminist act. Does this mean I don't support women who want to engage in this end of sex work? Of course not...if you can make the money and have the mindset for it, good for you. I have the utmost respect for women who need to support their children or pay for their education by engaging in sex work, and certainly financial independence is a big part of feminism. I guess the biggest part of what bothers me about stripping and sex work is that your average stripper makes in a night what a schoolteacher makes in a week. I don't want to imply that ecdisiasts are taking the money out of the teachers' pockets, but it bothers me that our society values sex workers over people who are helping kids get ahead in their lives -- to me, education should take precedence, you know? Anyway. Now that I've left out a bombshell with this revelation, I'm going to stand back and see what you guys have to say. I'm interested to hear others' perspectives, and as always this is my opinion and I reserve the right to be wrong. :) --Chelsea ---- Chelsea, the mod pixie home: away: tugboat@channel1.com odyshape@hotmail.com "I started out as a missionary, but I couldn't find a religion which didn't promise things to some people at the exclsion of others. I guess I need to vent my spleen. Will you guys still love me even when I begin to babble incoherently? Mi Vida Loca is driving me up a wall. Irony is the largest contributer to my confusion. What do I find ironic? Well, after the old beloved broke up wiith me, we became friends. Now he and I are around each other MORE than we ever were when we went out. Go figure. Why is it that the guys I like (okay okay lust) I never get to see, and the guys that I am over and done with keep popping up at my elbow and tapping me on the shoulder?????? Grrr.... it's annoying that now that I am over Mike, he is always around. He is also sending off vibes that he likes me again....damn men. and right now I really really like Jeff. He's sweet, funny, makes thin jokes at my expense (hey, I'm used to jokes about my fat butt so I'm easy to please at this point), he's completely adorable. I mean, God(dess), he is buff and healthy, and REALLY nice on the eyes. The man runs 10 miles everyday and does weight lifting too!!! *drools* The problem(s): (1) I hardly see him between our conflicting schedules (2) we chat online, but I always have to initiate the chat, prodding him along until he responds (3) same goes for phone conversations (4) he's a Christian while I am still trying to recover from the experience of Christianity. he lectured me last night for cursing!!! I have such a foul mouth, he ain't never gonna get washed clean. There's no way in hell... <sighs> What else? oh. (5) My mom had a vision of one of her past lives (don't ask). She said that Jeff was one of the judges at her witch trial in which they declared her a witch and burned her at the stake. Not a good sign, eh? Also, the same day, Jeff got a vision about how he was going to 'clean up' his life. *chills up and down and all around* This is what is making me want to go hide in the bloody closet. Last 9/8/98 not meant to last longer than sweat drying on tired skin What else? Hmm...on a GOOD note, I might see Tori at the Greek Theatre. *crosses fingers* Somebody shoot me cuz this is too good to be true. Oh. If anyone wants, I'm writing a new story, and I want someone to critique it for me. it's about all that crap above that I wrote about. Okay I'm done babbling... Raspberry Swirl, BfP, Utp, Hey Jupiter...... Y Kant Tori Read. Actually the boots called I Kant Tori Read, but that's just a detail. yay. I was dancing around and started singing Cool on Your Island. yay yay yay... that definately made up for the fact that I didn't go to the show. The CD was only $10 too. yay yay yay. It's not a great album, but it is good. Did Tori look awfully bored on the MTV video awards or what? I thought it would have been cool if she started to sing Gittin Jiggy With it. oh well... It was actually a decent show. Largely because of the Bare Naked Ladies. (did anyone, marlantigone, see them at the Government Center? good show) I was glad to see Hole too. Otherwise it was cRAP. The Matt Pinfield bit killed me though. I was laughing for way too long over it. >For all three shows that I have seen this tour, the CD "Exit Planet >Dust" by the Chemical Bros. was played before the opening act. (yes, i'm proud of myself, dammit!) i had the most kick-ass oral surgeon. (if you're in massachusetts, i'll give you the dr.'s name) i'm sooooo glad i had it done. two of the wisdoms were impacted, and i was constantly in pain. it would intensify if i tried to eat certain foods (like grape nuts cereal!) because the food would get trapped between the emerging teeth and the gums. OUCH. as surgery time got closer, i was down to chewing my food on one side of my mouth because of the pain. i think the worst part of the surgery itself was all the shots of novicane (wrong spelling, i'm sure) they had to give me, esp. the roof of my mouth. that sucked. the taste was horrible! but once she started in, believe it or not, i was fine. i didn't move, didn't flinch (well, i couldn't feel anything; i just knew something was going on because i felt the pressure)... didn't flip out like i was so sure i was gonna do. i *did* have my walkman with me, and i don't even remember what tape i was listening to. i don't even remember if it was tori. (obligaTori tori content, JK) i think that helped a lot. because even though i was aware of what was going on (drills, forceps, and who knows what else), i could sort of fade out and listen to my music. post-surgery, i came to discover that the percocet (a pain-killer) made me vomit (GROSS esp. with stitches in my mouth!) and i had what seemed like an interminable recovery period. i took a week off of work, and i didn't go back a day earlier than i had to. so i was stuck with extra-strength tylenol and ice packs for the week. i healed really well, didn't end up w/any dry sockets, and now i'm very happy to report, grape nuts are back in my diet! well.. this is a lot longer than i thought it would be. so to the poor soul w/wisdom teeth problems, write me if i can be of any help and answer questions. i encourage you to get 'em out... and make sure the surgeon saves the teeth for you! ;) okay, all of you that were grossed out... come on back, it's safe now! toodles! michelle *~*~you thought that you were the bomb yes well so did i~*~* -o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o [top] From: "HeyJupiter" <HeyJupiter@110.net> To: <rdtrn@torithoughts.org> Subject: Hooker/Waitress/Model/Actress Date: Sat, 12 Sep 1998 14:34:13 -0400 I just got the new Hole CD and it kicks ass. Nihon ni ikimashou." Which basically means, "Good morning! Let's go to Japan." My teacher has learned to just smile...and keep going.) And it's really interesting learning about the culture... And the classes are still really small. My level--III--is getting progressively smaller with each graduating class. We started with around 9-10 people. The next year, we were down to five, and this year it's just the three of us. :o) But we've been combined with a higher level and we're all learning the same stuff. So our class is about 12 people big. That's the conclusion to my Japanese Class story, you can stop scrolling, now. Heehee.... And on to the music... I picked up several good (an understatement) cds lately. 1) That Tori boot--Pheonix something. It's the Toronto sneak preview show, and to my surprise--has a good quality recording (off the Net) of "Merman" on there. Ooh wowowowow!!! What a gorgeous song!! That one line gets to me everytime, "Who could ever say you're not simply wonderful? Who could ever harm you?" *sigh* Everyone needs to hear this song. Damn Tower Records!! 2) Heather Nova. I've heard talk about her, picked up the cheapest on they had at Best Buy--Siren--and I like it. Pretty, pretty voice. But I still have to listen to it some more. 3) Hole. I love 'em. So...little ole me comes home from getting Celebrity Skin, expecting a little angst, some hard guitar rifts, and what do I get?? A pop album!!!! AAH! But, it's a really really good pop album. In fact, IMHO, it's one of the best I've ever heard. I just can't resist it...so if you're a die-hard Pretty On the Inside fan, do not pick this up...severe disappointment. But there's still some of that good old trademark Courtney Love. :o) 4) Imogen Heap. There's been some talk about her on here and stuff. Something about it coming with a note saying, "Meet the next Tori Amos." I don't think so. But, this does not make her bad. It's actually really good. Put Fiona's, Alanis's, and heck--add a little Liz Phair ever so often and you can kinda get Imogen Heap. There's some good piano in it, but overall (I Megaphone-the album) has some really dark tones to it. But I like it. And now if I only had some time to listen to 'em all a little more. Too much school. Too much work. Too much stuff...I only saw my mom for about 30 minutes today. Left the house at 7:15am got home at 9:33pm. *sigh* I need some sleep. Read LA Confidential...the novel, duh. Ummm...I'm not even done with it, but I *love* it. 'Course, I love the movie, too, so ummm...hmmm.... I'm out... I don't know why--I just had this overwhelming desire to see her again. In fact, I am really looking forward to her coming to Penn State, and if she doesn't I'm going to be pretty damn disapointed. I feel obsessive. I know I'm not...I mean, I know she is a normal person like the rest of us, but she....she is important to me...like she is to eveyrone else on here I guess:o) She has influenced me in so many ways and just let me see sides of myelf that I didn't know existed. Besides from that, he music is pretty damn kick-ass awsome. I just listen to it over and over again. I feel such a desire to meet her....just to let her know how important she is to me. I don't know...I guess that is how everyone feels though. And it is such a hard feeling beacuse you know that she has meet millions of poeple who have told her how wonderful she is and what an influence she has played on her life...so why shoudl what I say be different? It isn't really. When I was at the Philly show, I was in this huge crowd of poeple trying to push forward to see her, and I kept wanting to say, "I really want to just thank her...I just want to talk to her...please let me though..." But I couldn't say that, because eveyrone else felt the same way. they all needed to thank her, to talk to her...to "know" her. I don't know what this post is about. I've just been thinking about her coming to PSU and how much I want to meet her....but it seems...I dunno....it would be such an important thing for me...but it is for everyone else also...I don't even know what I mean anymore...this is what I get for babbling. I wish we could all get a chance to talk to her I suspose. I wish we could all tell her how wonderful a human being she is. It sounds so silly..but I just wish I could have been her friend. A person who has touched so many poeple in so many different ways.....wow...who wouldn't want to be her friend. To just sit down with her, have a nice cup of tea, and chat. What a great conversation that would be:o) As a disclaimer, i want to stress that I'm not obsessive. tori is just one of those people that people are drawn to...she has this aura around her.... What was all that about? I think it was a result of not having eaten today--I was literally just writing what was on my mind....even if it wasn't so coherient...sigh... My friend and I had this discussion over the Rammstein lyrics a few weeks ago. The reason is that my friend is teaching himself German in his spare time and discovered that 'hast' is indeed translated as 'have' in English after consulting all of his German-English paraphernalia. The reason for the discrepancy is that on the official Rammstein homepage, they have the German and English translations of all the lyrics, and for some reason they translated 'hast' as 'hate'. In the English version of 'Du Hast' done by Rammstien, he also sings 'you hate' as opposed to 'you have'. We couldn't figure out why; the word for hate in German isn't even close to 'hast'. Maybe he (Rammstein) doesn't know much German after all... Anyways to not make this a totally non-Tori post, I was wondering if anyone knows if/when the Jackies Strength single will be released in Canada. I was in HMV yesterday and they didn't have it, and it also wasn't in their big list of upcoming new releases. Wow, better stop writing; I'm supposed to be a lurker...
