On June 6th in 1994: was Tori really raped, or is she just
using this story as a marketing tool? (This, unsurprisingly,
turned into a flamewar.) One person wrote:
"Don't you think Tori's being a bit dishonest? She's
accepting an award from a rape crisis center, and she's
being looked to as a source of hope by thousands of girls
and women who have been raped. Nowadays, when Tori is asked
about the incident, she refuses to elaborate. However, in
the distant past she revealed that it was an *attempted*
rape, and she managed to get away without a scratch."
In 2000, people were answering the question: "If you could tell
Tori any one thing, what would it be?" One member answered:
"maybe i'd tell her that it was inadvertantly because of her
that my boyfriend and i fell in love. we both point to a
moment in our friendship that was directly effected by her
(if this makes sense. it's complicated) that made it all
grow in potential. took two and a half years to finally come
to a head, but hey, there's nothing wrong with waiting."
[ =======================> In RDT History <======================= ]
On June 7th in 1993, a member posted an article on Tori from
the 29 March 1993 issue of the (Toronto) Varsity. It includes
some cute trivia, like:
Her Worst Vice: "Extra virgin olive oil, and lots of it."
Her Funny Lipshade: "I wear three: Yves St. Laurent No. 66
in the large lip size, No. 3 in the thin matte kind and
Shiseido crimson."
Medical Complications From Sitting Swivelled at the Piano:
"Back problems, I've had them since I was 12."
Helpful Hints When Making Tori a Packed Lunch: "I hate
sandwiches."
In 1996, Tori fans who were also Metallica fans were coming out
of the woodwork. Also, a member and ardent Tori fan began
posting the results of his research into the Boesendorfer
piano, and his visits to the Boesendorfer shop in Vienna.
In 1997, people were talking about the recent disappearance
(on May 29th) and presumed death of Jeff Buckley. One member
wrote:
"Has anyone heard anything or seen anything in print about
the Jeff Buckley thing? It feels so weird to me, since I
haven't talked to anyone about it, just on e-mail. I was a
little disappointed not to see anything or hear anything
about it at all, it's a little surreal."

Subject: Shades of evil
First India/Pakistan...
If I could just reach out and stop it, I would.
But since I can't, I have to look at the possible impact.
Financial impact will be great but the U.S. should be fine. Radiation
won't equal an x-ray by the time it reaches here. These aren't the big
guns...just a small device.
And it will wake up the world again at a key point in history to just how
horrific these things are and just why they should never ever be used.
Second, a point I've made before:
I wholeheartedly believe the intelligence community knew about 9/11 but
sat by and did nothing.
Not ALL of them...just a few, maybe even one.
Prior to 9/11 the intelligence community was laughed at, distrusted and
generally considered a waste of taxpayer money. Warnings were seen as
paranoia, etc.
Now...imagine this...
You work for the intelligence community. You are a key player. You love
your country. It isn't just a catch phrase you mouth, you dedicate every
minute of your life to it. It controls, in many ways, your life.
You've tried to explain the dangers that exist and are called paranoid.
You are laughed at and your budgets cut.
You know any day *IT* will happen. Some crazy with the money and the time
will get a nuclear device and detonate it in a major city. Maybe NewYork,
maybe where your kids go to school.
You get a memo about a possible threat. You get them all the time. There
is nothing that really stands out here, but your gut tells you...this
could be the real deal.
Two buildings...two out of hundreds may fall. Not an entire city, not
even a lot of people percentage wise...
If you bring it to someones attention, you will be laughed at or...
If you don't and it happens, your agency will suddenly be given wide
sweeping powers to stop a greater catastrophe...THE Catastrophe.
So you tuck away the file...it probably won't happen anyway...

it's 2:30 AM, I'm either taking a break from my artwork that I
have to turn in tomorrow (my teacher is a smegma-eating cracksmoking
asshole artist himself who just doesn't seem to grasp the fact that, damn
it, I don't get home until 10PM.. and that leaves me two hours (provided
I do go to bed by midnight) to do his retarded BUSY WORK..) or giving up
on it for the night.. either way..
On my way home, I was listening to FTCH and Northern Lad came
on.. then I thought of other songs that mentioned--or had a little
something to do with rain.. whaddya say, y'all, that we all contribute to
a list of songs that have to do with rain.. or have rain in the
background.. or mention rain a time or two, etc? ehhhh? I've got a few
already!
Tori Amos - Northern Lad
Janet Jackson - Anything
Michael Jackson - Stranger In Moscow
Janet Jackson - Anytime, Anyplace
Missy Elliott - Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)
Janet Jackson - China Love
anybody else wanna add to this??? :D somebody.. PLEASE saaaaaaave me.. I
hate my art teacher.. *whine!*

Oh and for the record!
I'm not affraid of Lynch. :-P
I thought "Lost Highway" was Disney in comparison to "Mullholland Drive"
which creeped me out beyond reasonable borders , probably most since THAT
episode of Twin Peaks. That turntable with a finished record would
permanently haunt me.
But actually the 'visions' are the scary part in Lynch mythology. Because
that's what they are - visions the characters experience, that can neither
hurt them not touch them, but often scare them senseless. In one too many
movies an appaition is a ghost that through nice cgi pushes your furniture
around or throws knives at you. All cool, but the ultimate spook is that Bob
crawling on the carpet and over the couch, and not actually being there.
ugh. no. one wierd interesting thing too many. :)
Cyndi - yeah, "Suede" is about seduction. It makes me cry nevertheless.
because it feels like throwing stones against walls sometimes.

Ade typed:
>ahhh i'm in my pjs now... i should have a shower. my neighbor's dog tried
>to rape me yesterday. that was just plain freaky.
hehehehehehe, but this just reminded me of something that happened on
holiday. There's these Blue's Clues toys out now that 'jump' (about a
centimetre each second or something), and my parents got one for my nephew,
and someone's pressed it's ear and it's bounding along (with 'if you're
happy and you know it' playing), and it bumps into someones leg, and after a
few feeble attempts to continue on it's merry way it proceeds to tilt up
with each jump so it looked like it was humping the leg.
I think the little comment I made went over my mums head, but that's not
surprising as she still claims not to know what a wanker is (and I nearly
embarked on that road, but thought 'if she requires more than one
explaination, and there's no dictionary in this place, I really don't want
to go there'.
I spose now is as good a time to divulge about my holiday. Great weather
(though not for fishing) other than when we were diving up and then back. We
were up there 2 years ago, but I don't think I mentioned anything then about
Graftons major bridge. It's actually a traffic hazard that they try to dress
up as a tourist attraction, but this bridge is 'bendy'. It's like a
semi-straightened 'Z' with two sharpish (for a bridge) corners to navigate
some 30 metres in from each end. I can't find a decent pic, but here's an
'artists impression' (note the excessive number of 'bends').
http://www.graftoncity.nsw.gov.au/images/bendybridge.jpg
You get use of a dingy with the unit, so other than it's fishing use, Tiarna
and I went out for a little trip with my dad. I made mention to Tiarna that
there was a little island in the middle of the river, and it imediately
became a treasure island and there were pirate pigs and the pirate parrot
(Dora the Explorer) and treasure everywhere, and then Captain Hooks pirate
ship on the way back.
We had a BBQ nearly every day, and Tiarna got into the habit of collecting
sticks for it (even when we didn't need them any more), and even banksia
flowers, which she ordered me to de-flower and she then pretended the um..
bit that was left (seed pod section) was a sausage that she'd 'cook' on the
barbie.
The other really good thing (other than catching up with everyone of course)
was that it was a good introduction for Tiarna as to what being around
another kid all the time will be like (though granted it'll be like a year
before she has to go through the full-on sharing thing again). My nephew had
teething problems (fever and very very bad nappy rash), but even if he was
crying full boar and non-stop, when it was bed time, she'd be out like a
light.
Oh, and I can't forget the baby food story (though sadly I was out of the
room at the time). Nephew's mealtime and a can of creamed rice is opened for
him that was purchased earlier in the week. Creamed rice explodes out of the
can. It was off, though not past its use by date. Stank a bit too, and
Murphy must ahve been distracted because the carpet was remarkably
unscathed.
And earlier tonight my parents rang to say that my brother and his wife (who
were at Wooli with us) are expecting again (in January from what I can
figure). They had been trying and her period was late (ended up a couple of
weeks before we went away), but tests said she wasn't. But she must've done
another one after getting back home, and lo and behold, she is about 2
months preg!

Subject: RIP Little Champers
After having a lovely dinner of carrots and kitty treats, Champagne the
Hamster laid down and went to sleep forever. When I looked in on him this
morning, he was curled up and peacefully dead after a very long life.
I was handling it all right up to the point Dickens came over and for the
first time ever, gave Champers little head a lick and a kiss and a nuzzle.
Then she looked up at me and gave a mournful little "mew" as if to ask what
was wrong.
But I'm thankful he passed in his sleep and didn't suffer.
Rest in peace, you spoiled little hamster. May heaven be as good as your
home on earth.
In a state of mourning,
Bethey

Seconds went by as no contestant buzzed in. The category was "90's Rock."

Subject: A little Bunny
My daughter rushed over this afternoon to bring me her hamster Bunny (my
granddaughter named her). Bunny was pretty much being tortured by a two
year old child and a 3 month old cat, and I've never seen such an aggressive
rodent. She won't allow me to touch her, so I used a carrot stick to
acquaint her with my hand being in her cage. Every time she spun around to
bite, she got a mouthful of carrot instead of my finger.
I think once she gets used to not being abused and watched and tortured, she
may calm down and be an acceptable pet. Dickens isn't happy with the new
addition, but Glenny the Guinea Pig has been chatting away to her new friend
in the cage next door. I'm hoping she is saying (in rodent) "Welcome to
Heaven; Prepare to be spoiled rotten."
I'd say more, but there is a big ass thunderstorm hitting, so I'll just say:
Fairy Blessings,
Bethey
I'm OK when Everything's not OK
cause it's the Fairies Revenge they say
And I have always been a Fairy.
