On June 23rd in 1993, Ruby Trax, Beavis and Butthead, and more
on Atlantic/East West (and just who is Tori signed to?).
In 1994, a tentative report that Tori will be on the Leonard
Cohen tribute album (it had been speculated for some time),
more reviews. In one, a member paraphrased Tori:
Tori played a donkey in the church play because her ears
were so big. She says she longed to hear the onlookers at
Jesus' birth exclaim, "It's a girl!"
In 1998, the unveiling of the web site at www.ToriThoughts.org
(which was nothing at all like the current one), sex and
relationships, and ticket trials and tribulations.
In 1999, lots of MPD/DID, and leaving home/marriage.
[ =======================> In RDT History <======================= ]
On June 24th in 1993, a "No chance!" from an Atlantic rep on a
re-release of YKTR, and more Beavis and Butthead.
In 1994, plans for creating a Usenet extension of RDT called
"rec.music.tori-amos" are discussed [the newsgroup and list
never were linked together as mentioned as a hopeful possibility
at the time]. Also, an article about Tori working on "establishing
a nationwide sexual abuse hot line" which would, of course,
become RAINN (subject: Tori newsday).
In 1996, Tori playing outdoors, Tori's not an alcoholic, Tori
and drugs, part 7 of the Bosendorfer story.
In 1997, gun control, and inner/outer beauty.
In 1999, teachers, society and evolution, which Kate Bush cd to
start with, and more MPD.
In 2001, a response to what "I<heart>A=415" is all about, more
on the death penalty thread, and drugs (namely E).

i can just see it now, violet's entry at this time next
year:
on June 20th in 2002, we discussed the hotness of Eminem.
thank you, thank you. this list has been boring as hell
as of late (pardon me if i don't get the big woody for
all those surveys). this is finally giving me something
to post about.
i'm not sure about the potential hotness of Eminem. i'm
not too attracted to that sort of waifish tortured white
boy thing, though i have to agree with Dani, the glasses
do knock it up a notch.
that being said, holyshit. the album is amazing. i got
it last week (it was only because i was so busy and
broke that i ended up waiting so long). I liked the Slim
Shady LP, loved the Marshall Mathers LP, and i'm quickly
falling in love with the new album. in terms of growing
as an artist, he's moved leaps and bounds since his last
album. I especially noticed that in terms of the
sophisication of rhythm and beats.
i've been trying to reconcile my liking Eminem's music
for a long, long time. i still don't quite know what to
make of it, but maybe i'm overthinking it. but, like
Dani, i have to admit that i'm actually more interested
in what Eminem's doing right now than what Tori's doing.
i hope i like her new album, but honestly, i'm not
holding out any hope. i've been consistently
disappointed by the majority of her work since
Choirgirl.
dammit, I wish I could have a cocktail party like Arija.
why can't my friends be that cool? i'm going to have to
have some sort of housewarming party when i move in
August. and i hope my roommates share my obsession for
interior decoration. :)
plus, on the way back from the Cape yesterday, John and
I stopped off at UMass Dartmouth to look into the grad
program there. it's summer and there wasn't much to see
or anyone to talk to, but holyfuckingshit, the
facilities are amazing. they're brand new, all hardwood
floors, and the grad studios have these huge amazing
windows that look down on downtown New Bedford and the
ocean. I mean, i know i should be interesting in the
faculty, the program, classes...but right now, it's all
about location, location, location. :)

Subject: the usual suspects
Hi all, sorry I personally have been so quiet lately. I've had a lot on my
mind, but none of it have I really wanted to discuss -- with anyone. A lot
of shifting alliances and energies, a lot of planning, and not a lot
of resting, is most of what I've been up to.
I've spent a lot of time recently haunting livejournal, which is becoming,
more and more, a deeply weird place. Many people I know have livejournals,
and they're fun to read although sometimes it can feel a tad
on the voyeuristic side. Some people get off on that, but I find
it creepy. I guess I want people to know I'm reading their livejournals,
whether or not they care. And mine, I keep pretty shallow most
of the time, or more philosophical than personal. Part of it's
that I'm trying not to be a hypocrite, since I can't stand what most
people use their livejournals for. Humm.
I haven't been digging into a lot of new music, although this week I did
come up with Beck's "Mutations" (overheard & liked at a party
last weekend), Sneaker Pimps' "Blood Sports" and Tom Waits' "Closing
Time." Maybe there's a theme there, I dunno.
I went out today to make use of some old store credits and
gift certificates, so headed over to Fields Books in SF -- a purveyor of
occult, philosophical and spiritual books. It's a tiny
shopped, crammed floor to ceiling. I was lucky to get out of there
only spending about $65 (an extra $20 was covered by a
gift certificate). There was one book, out of print and hardbound,
that I wanted very much but it was $90. Oh, to be rich and afford lots
of rare books. :) (I probably should not have gone shopping at
all, considering my current book is "The Club Dumas," the
literary basis for Roman Polanski's film "The Ninth Gate.") Still, I did
well: "Visual Magic" and "Seidhways," "Psychic Self-Defense" by Dion
Fortune, "Chicken Kabbalah" by Lon Milo DuQuette, and a book about
Scotland's Rosslyn Chapel, which I've been meaning to learn more about.
Then I went back to Berkeley and Moe's books (four floors of
books!), where I had a $10 credit and promptly spent a total of $40 --
Graham Hancock's "Fingerprints of the Gods," a book on ghost-hunting
by Simon Marsden (who also took tons of unearthly pictures to go
in it; I think he's the same one who did the illustrated EA Poe book I
have), and a pictorial book on Supernatural phenomena,
hardbound, which not only has lots of interesting images and subjects, but
has the added benefit of looking Really Fucking Scary, thanks to the
huge upside-down silver pentagram on the (black, cloth) cover.
Am enjoying "The Club Dumas" a lot, infact more than I enjoyed the
movie. I'm also about to read another book on heavy metal, called "Running
With The Devil: Power, Gender and Madness in Heavy Metal Music." I
also still haven't finished a book called
"The Classic Fairy Tales," which I seem to pick up and put down again at
random intervals.
I love books. :)
Devin and I are planning a vacation at the end of July, almost all
of which will be spent in Sonoma County. Some at his parents' place,
housesitting while they're on their vacation, and some at a cabin on the
coast. (Hence the haul of books, which I don't expect to finish by
then.) I may also go to the UK in November. We'll see. :)
Violet has shared some movies with me recently; I watched her DVD of
"Psychomania," the story of a gang of zombie motorcyclists who have this
thing for a stone circle in England. Very b-movie, but good nonetheless.
Also she recently showed me "Suspiria," which I had wanted to see for ages
and liked very much. I've still got to see "Clockwise," which she lent
me, but did enjoy another John Cleese film, "Romance with a Double Bass,"
at her place a few weeks ago. It's too bad John Cleese can't be in his 30s
(or however old he was in the 1970s) for all time. I also recently saw
"Minority Report" (loved it; won't spoil it for any of you) and "The
Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys" (dragged slightly, but was so
charming and nostalgic that I could watch it again and again). Jodie
Foster plays a nun in the latter; it's worth seeing for that alone. I also
recently saw "Home Movie," a documentary about weird
people and weird homes from the guy who made "American Movie" (which I
didn't see); it's playing right now along with a short film called
"Heavy Metal Parking Lot." Judas Priest concert c. 1986 -- mullets galore.
:)
I'm happy to say I'm looking forward to a few shows coming up, including
Neil Gaiman reading his new book in Berkeley in July, Tool in Oakland,
also in July, and the Joe Satriani/Dream Theater/King's X extravaganza
in Concord in August. My bank account is smarting from all the
"convenience fees," but I'm sure I'll forget about those
once I see these shows.
Um, and lastly, I found myself writing another musical essay recently.
This time the piece that tapped me was
Apocalyptica's album "Cult," which allowed me to wax poetic about a
favorite subject
of mine, the commonalities between classical music and heavy
metal. For those of you not familiar with Apocalyptica, they are a Finnish
band which plays heavy metal music on cellos. They are stunning specimens
of the modern Viking, and clearly know how to turn the cello into a rock
star's dream instrument. If this sounds interesting to you, or you just
want to read more of my yammering (as if all this wasn't enough), here
it is:
http://echoes.devin.com/apocalyptica-cult.html
Okay, enough out of me. Back to my hidey-hole. :)

I'm not gonna reply to anything in here like I normally do until I get
home, but I saw this part from Arija (*waves at Arija!* hello! :)): "does
anyone on this mailing list actually listen to tori?"
I DO!!! I'm listening to her right now! wheeee!!
Arija then said: "if so, would it be possible for me to get a copy of
"under the covers" (1993? 1994?) from you?"
I JUST got my hands on a copy boot CD of that.. I could just rip 'em, if
you ever get online regularly (AFTER I GET HOME of course..) and send them
to you like that.. would that work? Even if that doesn't, don't worry about
sending me a blank CD/tape for that. just send like.. a couple of bucks for
shipping and handling costs, that's all I ask at the most, period. :D
Anyway, my whole point here is this--WE DO *TOO* LISTEN TO TORI! *grin*
ONE MORE THING.. is it me, or has this poor list gotten very quiet
thanks to my semi-disappearance? I don't want to think I'm the life of the
party, but if such is the case, then I'll drop a little short message--just
like this one--every few days to keep this thing rollin'.. :)

is a skanky smegma-licking slut-chewing whore.. *sad sigh*)

Well I finished painting the laundry. I used up the rest of the can of Ego
Moon and had to go out and buy some more to finish the job. Why is it paint
cans are always a litre too small?
I also got one of those funky new instant hot water systems installed
during the week. It'll take some getting used to over the old tank, as for
the first two nights, I'd be in the shower with shampoo in my hair when the
water would go stone cold for two minutes. If the heater goes more than 3
deg C out of tolerance, it shuts down and pumps cold water. It seems to
work fine if I use the hot for something an hour before and it doesn't have
to heat up from stone cold.
All I need now is to re-tile the kitchen and bathroom to eliminate the last
remnants of wall-to-wall beige. There's a double reason in doing it, as the
tiles started popping off the wall after the very unusual summer we had.
then I can think about a pergola out the back and ripping up the beige
carpet for either floor tiles or a floating wooden floor. It's amazing what
they can do with wood these days.

I've been designated dishwasher for over 20 years now and I don't make too
much noise, leak (except when drunk), or have problems with closing doors.
You're pensioning Glenn off when he's only been doing it for 15 years? ;-)

I can't wait until Friday when I'll be the meat between Lavs and her twin

I have both volumes on cassesste. You really only need the first one. The
second one is pretty much a repeat.
I could copy for you if you want to send me some tapes and enough postage
