[ =======================> In RDT History <======================= ]
On July 16th in 1992, a bit of talk about some gifs of Tori
(including ones from THAT Sydney show), and Tori in Glamour
magazine. Also, tidbits from an article on Tori in a recent
issue of "Stereophile" magazine, including:
"My songs mirror myself and I'd rather give a blow job to a
stranger than sell the rights to them."
In 1993, Generation X (and Tori as a phoenix), an untitled
parody of SATY with lines like:
I've been looking for a soft drink without
Nutrisweet
Looking for some chinese food
Without the MSG
I've been opening my mouth
Shove another cake in
Just what I need
Maltodextrin
In 1994, the BFH piano, US CG single, more reviews (with the
'It's a girl' story mentioned again, which is something of the
origins of Mohammed My Friend), more discussion of the fan
club.
In 1995 more moon reminiscing, children's TV shows, arm v
leg/sight v hearing/burning v drowning, and a bit more on
bumper stickers.
In 1996, a story on Tori and the web on MSNBC, and drugs.
In 1997, a member posted a link to a CNN article about ANOTHER
member who wrote about Ana Duarte-Coiner, a Tori fan who was
among those that died in the TWA flight 800 crash. (The link to
that article still works.) Also, Stairway to Heaven pre-dates
Tori, how to be Christian, giving change to the homeless, men,
women, work and respect, and 'Surfacing' impressions.
In 1999, MPD is back, the Blair Witch Project, some random
Episode 1 stuff, and the discussion that is herein dubbed and
shall henceforth be known as "The Pervert Misunderstanding".
In 2000, Ani Di Franco, respect and good looks, and some
militia talk.
In 2001, people continued talking about the beauty thread,
interspersed with discussion of Ani DiFranco's "Not a Pretty
Girl." One member pointed out:
"Isn't Tori Amos a beautiful AND intelligent woman? Looks
and intelligence are by no means mutually exclusive. The
only thing that irritates me about some women who do have
the looks and the brains play dumb deliberately, just so
they fit society's stereotype to gain acceptance. Such a
waste."

So that explains the real reason why Canberra was established as the
capitol- to solve the "not in my backyard" situation of the other cities
trying to foist the politicians off on each other ;)
Could also explain the reason why Washinton DC was founded- the people of
New York City and Philadelphia predicted the future, that having all the
politicians around would cause lots of problems ;)
regarding obnoxious astronauts on a mission to Mars:
>
>Murphy's Law would also dictate that they had a mobile phone with 1000
>different tunes which would be cycled through constantly.
And having to endure that for six months, with current rocket technology.
Might be a good argument in favor of the development of either suspended
animation or warp drive!
Or allowing Tazers on board. I can see it now- the offending cellphone
user calls a friend back on Earth, and the friend answers their phone, to
hear their Mars-bound friend say "Guess where I'm calling from...zzzzaap!"
>On the bright
>side, we could hope that when they're making a critical course adjustment,
>said phone goes off, affecting sensitive navigational computer equipment
>with the result of sending them off course and propelling them into the

That might explain the fate of some of the Mars probes over the years.
Aliens with cellphones. And perhaps the Roswell crash in 1947 was actually
casused by one of the alien crew making a cellphone call.
Which means that our cellphone tech was actually reverse engineered from
the busted cellphone found at the crash site! And the network of cell
towers doubles as a defense system against alien spacecraft.
>Phone companies in sympathy decide to
>only release phones with a maximum of three distinctive ring tones from

Now if the rings become a problem before any safety problems occur, the
offending passenger would be the first person in spaceflight history to be
"spaced", and when said incident is described in court, the one who did the
"spacing" would be accquitted.
Spacing- B5 referrence. euphemism for shoving someone out of an airlock,
although in B5 no one was ever spaced for having an obnoxious-sounding
communications device ;)

>I read something recently that a guy on his deathbed admitted to his wife

It's also been theorized that "D.B. Cooper" didn't survive the jump from
the plane even with the parachute- it was in November and he jumped when
the plane was over mountainous terrain, and with a blizzard raging below to
boot. On the other hand, no one knows what survival gear he might have had
with him under his coat. But it's definitely known that he didn't wave a
hat in the air while yelling "Yeehaaa!" ;)
Seriously, I've always figured that he would have to have some technical
knowledge of aircraft: the plane he hijacked and jumped from was a Boeing
727, unique at that time for being the only passenger plane with a
passenger door in the tail- the main side doors couldn't have been opened
in flight.
As far as I know D.B. Cooper sightings weren't nearly as numerous as Elvis
sightings. Although there are some people who actually think Elvis died in
1977.

We don't sound that bad amongst ourselves. It's a little known fact that
we only switch to sounding annoying when foreign travelers come around ;)
That's it! The first use of a universal translator won't be to facilitate
communications with aliens, it will be used initially to make it easier for
people to be understood despite regional dialects ;)
about the Bond film "Tomorrow Never Dies":
> I can't help but think how
>the Carver character in TND resembles Rupert Murdoch and his media empire.
So Murdoch is to media what Gates is to computers. But is Murdoch truly as
evil as Gates? I mean, does he too wear a toupee to hide three 6's on his
head?
I finally saw the second "Austin Powers" movie- fitting that Starbucks was
depicted in the movie as being part of Dr. Evil's scheme.

There was the band she was in, Simply Dread. And then there was film about
the submariners sporting the same hairstyle- "Dread October".
and then there's the movie where she played the futuristic law officer:
"Judge Dread".
linda was asking about what wines are good. Thunderbird and Night Train
are two well known brands ;)
regarding matt's interest in baseball from a UK perspective, it makes me
wonder if die-hard American football fans like my sister and her husband
will become soccer, cricket, or rugby fans after having lived in the UK
(Lancaster) for a while ;)
Incidently, my sister left for Lancaster on the 23rd and she and her
husband are in the process of moving to a bigger house there.
They put a lot of their things in storage instead of taking them. I did
offer to let them "store" their electronic gear (including the DVD player
and 35 inch TV) at my apartment, but they turned me down ;)
I wonder what they did on the 4th..... ;)

sorry to hear that. I can't even imagine what it's like to have family or
friends living someplace dangerous like that.

Depending on the type of plane, it's either a control "yoke" (akin to a
steering wheel) or a control stick. Was there any news of someone
noticing that he was depressed or acting strange? It's really sad when
someone has reached that point and even the people around them don't see it.
although I can relate a little to being really depressed over many years
and no one really seeing just how *bad* things had gotten.
about the world situation:
> i think it's a case of it
>being easier to hate a scapegoat than to hate one's own circumstances.
that pretty much sums up much of the bigotry out there :(
and for something completely different:
>i began to ask myself whether a dead parrot is still a parrot -
it might just be asleep ;)
> what is it which makes a parrot a parrot in
>the
>first place? is life (or "aliveness") the single most important defining

it's ability to repeat rude comments when family and friends come to visit
is very crucial ;)
re: UK coal mining- the UK slowing domestic coal mining and *importing*
coal from elsewhere defies logic. Or am I missing something?
although I have to say that overall *not* mining or using coal is better
for the environment.
What do you call giving beer or liquor to someone who digs for coal?
Contributing to the deliquency of a miner.
anyway, that's enough from me, for now :)
later!

*GASSSSSSP!!!!* I actually woke up BEFORE NOON today!!!!!
*faints* hello everybody! :)
the RDTRN day in history thing said: "In 1995, people were discussing
such things as whether they'd rather lose an arm or a leg, lose an eye or
an ear....."
hee hee.. I've *gotta* say this. I'd rather have someone lop off
my right ear as it's all purely decoration anyway!! hee hee! sure, I'd
lose the cartilage piercing I got two summers ago if that happened, but
heck what's it matter? all that ear's doing there is making me look
"normal". :|)
redstamen said: "over on the board formerly known as the dent forums,
there's been evidence that the promo hasn't even been pressed. if that's
true, then maybe this version is just one of several mixes they're
considering for release."
holy crap, dude! I haven't heard the song yet but.. holy crap!!
if that's true, then they must be actually just playing around etc and
seeing what works best! hmmmmm... :)
Lavs said: "One thing that crossed my mind was LE was a diary, UTP an
impressionist painting, BFP was a novel, FTCH was... I forget, *snip*"
FTCH.. um.. I don't know what Tori called it herself, but I'd
call it an epic of sorts.. whether it were a book, a miniseries on TV, or
a movie. :|) I sorta feel like I've been through one by the time
Pandora's Aquarium plays that last little final note and I feel almost
like "whew!" by then.
Coops said, on the Napster discussion: "The companies could have bought
into it and hosted the files themselves, so there'd be no drop outs
during downloads, there would be quality control of the files. Commercial
tracks could be released when artists and companies want, not when
somebody has stolen a pre-release copy or released it without authority."
Good point, good point.. Public Enemy actually had an entire
album released on mp3.. but you had to go to their webpage to BUY it
before downloading it. Of course, then the people probably took it to
Napster or the other mp3 sharing programs, which defeated the purpose,
but HOWEVER.. I still have to say that being able to download mp3s to
listen to something (like I did with Tori and a few other artists) and
see if I like it, DOES WORK if you think it's good and ESPECIALLY if you
connect with it. I spent a good $60 last month while I was in Oklahoma on
Tori's first four (not YKTR..) albums cuz I had them on burned CD and I'm
such a goody-goody (plus I like getting the actual CDs and seeing the
liner notes, the lyrics, pics, etc) that I couldn't stand being a
thievin' EWF. I still have yet to buy TVAB and SLG tho.. but they're
next, by golly, they're next!
e. said: "the plot is no good. I don't care much for the publicity
either. They make you believe you're gonna see a bunch of Disney
characters being harassed by the ugly alien - all you get is corn. big
no-fat corn."
I was disappointed when I saw the commercial for the real thing,
myself! rofl.. that'd have been hilarious.. Aladdin and Simba and Belle
and Peter Pan etc.. rofl.. all getting bothered by Stitch.. lol..
Anyway, enough from me for now. much love! *blows kisses*
laaaaaaater! :)

Yes I did! Well, Ms. Taylor anyway, but it's me, Lecy! :-D sorry!!
<< I'm could be mistaken, but I believe her career "really took off" more
in the UK than here at first.
Yes, I guess you're right. I didn't word it very well. I just meant that
Tori signed her deal with Atlantic while in LA, and made her first
album(YKTR) in LA, and returned to the piano while still in LA.>>
True, True.. although we all know what a mad success YKTR was.. I so wish I
wasn't 7 when that came out, I could have a nice little $500.00 gem in my
CD collection..
<<It was her early demos for LE that made Atlantic send her to the UK to
finish her album. So if it weren't for those experience, her career might
not be where it is now, etc. etc... that's what I meant. :)>>
And that makes perfect sense. :D Thanks for clarifying Beth!
<<And thanks to you and the others who explained "She's Come
Undone." I don't know if I'll ever find the time to read it, but it does
sound good.>>
YOU NEED TO READ IT!
::ahem::
I mean, I certainly hope you can find the time to read it, you won't regret
it. It's incredible!
Cindy and Beth:
<<Beth said: "I'm not so sure about that. I listened to System of a Down's
samples on amazon.com and they were so crappy-sounding that I thought I
wouldn't like the CD, and therefore didn't buy it."
CDNow is the way to go, dear. That's where I went to check out
samples of Tori's music before downloading and burning (and eventually
BUYING) the songs.>>
I agree with Cindy here, CD now is great to listen to things before you buy
them, this way Coops won't attack you for being "of the 10%". But about
System of a Down.. actually, their music is not crappy.. I can understand
why you felt that way though.. a lot of their songs start out really crappy
but after you get thru the "crap" the song itself is really good! Their new
single, "Aerials" off "Toxicity" is lovely and I put it on my running mix
tape for its energy, but I guess SOAD is something you really just have to
be in the mood for. :)

Subject: when tweetle beetles battle in a puddle with a paddle they call it
a tweetle beetle puddle paddle battle muddle (if memory serves)
Hi everybody. It's 4:30am, and my computer just imploded for no apparent
reason and I've lost all of my settings (though only a few files, luckily,
and HOPEFULLY nothing very important). So, being at a loss as to what to do
next, I've decided to post to rdtrn :)
Not, of course, that I have anything to say because, well... I never have
anything to say. Plus, it's holidays and I'm one of those sad sad little
people who do FEWER interesting things during the holidays as opposed to
more. So, my most exciting recent life event was installing movable type on
my blog (Movable type, by the way, is lovely because it actually works while
blogger just does NOT these days *nostalgic sigh*).
Soo... I'm going to shamelessly plug myself now and say that I'm doing the
24-hour Blogathon this year (http://www.blogathon.org), and all proceeds
from me will be going to Amnesty International. So, if you'd like to sponsor
me in return for my eternal love and lots of warm fuzzy feelings inside, you
can do it either via my blog (http://www.clarablog.com) or via the
participants list on the blogathon site (I'm at the bottom of the first
page) Thank you, that is all :)
As for the new song... I'm just happy to be seeing new Tori material
(Personally, I quite like it. It has mainstream leanings, but there isn't
really anything wrong with that. It's pretty.). This album will be my first
*anticipated* non-cover Tori album so I'm just bursting with glee (I was
only semi-into Tori before TVAB... i wasn't even much of an internet person
when TVAB came out [oh, the shame]... so I didn't even know it was coming
until I saw it on the shelves... and then I was like... oh yeah, that's that
Tori chick who [then-friend] Lauren never shuts up about and keeps trying to
make me like... so I bought it... anyway this isn't an interesting story). I
am happy about this october. Not only will there be more Tori, but there
will also possibly be more Harry Potter. And I'll be pretty much finished my
1st year of uni which will only give me what, 5 more years to go... blerghg.
Can't say I like it, I really can't.
Have lost all my Outlook :( How sad. All my email addressses gone, gone with
the wind. And all my saved emails. I'm actually pretty calm about this. It's
probably the sleep deprivation. I was meant to meet friends in town at 1pm a
few days ago but I slept in until 12:30 and didn't end up getting there
until about 2:15... you see even when I get the chance to be sociable I mess
it up. Life is trying to tell me something. If nothing else, to go to bed at
a reasonable hour. Yet here I am at 4:45.
Is it just me, or is the windows xp design just ugly (I've just been
defaulted back to it)? Not that I really have a problem with xp in
general... it apologises when it's going to crash, which is a nice addition.
Fun link of the day: http://www.deanliou.com/WinRG/. I think it has definite
potential.
My sister has about a billion friends coming to sleep over tomorrow night.
I've chewed off all my fingernails just thinking about it, and eaten all the
honey nougat bars that I think might have been for them. But the less sugar
they get, the better. Actually, no... if they can't get sugar, they'll
resort to red-eye and blue vodka and other such worse things. *twitches
nervously*.
Meh. I think my work here is done. I am going to read through this in the
digest tomorrow and ask myself why I didn't just go to bed.
Bye!
luv Claire

PS. Oooh and did I say I've got an average of 96% for all of this semester's
Spanish tests? Law, here I come :)

buy her cds anyway because she's awesome and deserves to be a zillionaire

We are proud to announce the October release of Tori Amos' Epic Records
debut Scarlet's Walk. Recorded in Cornwall, England and self-produced by
Tori, the album features guest performances by former Soundgarden drummer
Matt Chamberlain and long-time collaborator bassist Jon Evans.
Tori Amos' previous records Under The Pink and Boys For Pele are certified
platinum successes. Two of her other recent offerings, From The Choirgirl
Hotel and To Venus and Back have reached gold status, with her most recent
"covers" record Strange Little Girls certain to shortly follow suit. Tori
is a perennial top pick for critics worldwide and boasts as devoted a fan

Is it just me, or does it seem like with all the reports of evil things
terrorists *might* do being reported, it's just giving them ideas?

That buggy thing being Winblows ;)

That's exactly what I was talking about- the original cd's themselves sound
like crap, and made worse by the randomness it occurs. I have CD's that
won't play in my home stereo but play fine in my discman. I have some
CD's from a few years ago that have the same problem, so now I wonder if
the music industry was screwing around with copy protection in '97 or '98.
The industry has shot themselves in both feet with this one.
and I agree with you about Episode II :)

Adds a whole new dimension to the whole thing about one's ears burning when
people elsewhere are gossiping about them. And 200 years from now their
descendants will found PsyCorps ;)

Well I *did* send it in for the anniversary digest prior to the deadline
but it never showed up :(

More than likely talking about President Bush!
a weird one from our resident succubus barbie megan with "Eat. Your. Pills.".
wondering when FX will air the more recent "Buffy" episodes.

My sentiments exactly. Despite music industry's bitching about piracy,
most copying is for personal use. Besides putting hours of music on your
computer for easy access, what if you want to have music on the go but
you'd rather be safe and leave the originals at home? And the whole idea
of being restricted where and when you can listen to a CD that you've paid
for royally sucks to the nth degree (the way the "protected" CD's vary as
to how you can play them).
later!
