[ =======================> In RDT History <======================= ]
On July 21st in 1994, more on CD Connection, American Pie was
sung in intro to Teen Spirit at the Belfast Concert (in
correction of a Tori quote posted earlier stating it was the
Dublin show the next night), Tori and drugs, the story behind
MAAG, and ticket talk.
In 1995, more kids TV shows, old TV shows (especially 'V'),
Tori dreams, movies that scared you for 'life', religion, more
about abortion, Alanis Morrisette, art, a '92 Tori interview
from German TV.
In 1996, parental abuse.
In 1997, more Surfacing reviews, and the results of a lyric
guessing competition a member had previously posted to the
list.
In 1998, more on losing someone close, a couple of new
articles.
In 1999, birth control (the pill and Depo Provera), religion,
lots of reactions to the death of JFK JR, and list behaviour.

Um. Isn't there a band called "Arab Strap"? Am I losing my mind? Did they
get their name from this album, you think? Or when someone says "such and
such song" by Arab Strap.. are they making some kind of reference to Belle
& Sebastian?
<<It's so sad to see yet anoher decade without the right people getting credit

Um. I'm not a big fan of Belle & Sebastian, but I have heard them.. I don't
think they're musical prophets or anything, no.. however Incubus really
wasn't that bad in the beginning.. they've sold out now, badly.. but their
first two albums, "Enjoy Incubus" and "S.C.I.E.N.C.E" were actually really
decent. At least for awhile they were spreading good music.. unfortunately
no one really picked up on them when they were good. :-P Not that Incubus
are visionaries either, but at least they didn't totall suck, in the
beginning.
:)
btw - is anyone gonna answer poor Cindy and tell her how to be a fuzzy

SLEEPING IN *SUCKS*. I just woke up and it's 1:30 PM. Why can't I
be NORMAL?? anyway..
Simon said in reply to Matt's "there is no future" quote: "Reminds me of
what was said in "Terminator II": No fate but what we make."
I remember that movie. I watched it as often as I've watched
Fight Club! Good movie. :)
Simon then said, on CD bootlegging, etc: "And one other thing that might
have an impact on cd bootlegging: once and for all lower the prices of
cd's to something more reasonable."
I agree--and yet the record labels jack up the price WHY? because
they're scared that mp3 downloading is killing their income. Bono from U2
said he didn't care. "I'm already overpaid" he said! lol..
Simon replied to my saying I wouldn't be surprised if people helped pets
as much as they help people: "Dogs and cats do pick up on when someone is
depressed or not feeling well. When I was living with my parents, and it
happens nowadays for that matter when I'm there to visit, if I've been in
a bad mood one of the dogs will come over to me wanting to play :)"
You'll see this soon, Simon, but I mentioned that my brother's
dog was definitely feeling their worried vibes when he and his wife were
worried that the loan for their new house wouldn't go through. She acted
the same way. lol..
Lavs mentioned trying to potty-train Tiarna.. good luck!!! :)
gosh.. I'm not the only one here who CAN'T STAND Tom Cruise? sweeeeet. :)
Hello, Anna! :) always good to see another person post! :) Very
interesting story about your "friend" there. I'd think it's a ghost or

Ian said in reply to my "are you a writer?" question: "hey cyndy...i dont
really consider myself a writer, but i do occasionaly get inspired to
transfer thoughts to paper. i mostly just keep a journal of my
perspective about everything that's going on around me. it kinda helps
me make sense of the constant influx of information that we live in....."
I hear ya there, dude. I keep a journal around so I can write in
it during nights when I can't sleep, when I'm feeling particularly
disturbed, depressed, angry, or something like that. It really helps. I
usually write and rant and rave.. and then when I'm done, *usually*, I'm
able to sleep. I write lots of stories too, tho, but that's for when I'm
not in bed tossing and turning. :D
Ian then said: "i guess it made sense to me because there was the obvious
tori link. i hope no one thought it to be inapropriate for this
list......"
shoot. nothing (well, almost nothing--just don't call anybody an
"assclown".) is inappropriate for this list! :)
Violet said in reply to my fuzzy ferret inquiry: "You pretty much just
write to the listadmin address and say, "Can I help?""
okay.. well what do I help with? :D I need to know before I offer
my help, as it is that my dad and I are working to start a little video
editing type business with my skills in the video editing and his skills
as a business major.. :D
Doug: that sucks that your brothers got eliminated. They still need a
webpage!!!
Megan: er.. are 5's equivalent to A's? :) whatever it all is, CONGRATS!!!

yup, it's true. ever hear of fiesta ware? they used to
use uranium (and lead) to get brilliant oranges and

been pretty much outlawed. oranges and yellows are still
two of the hardest glaze colors to reproduce.

I'm starting to wonder if Violet has a bit too many fetishes on her hands,
with all these bodily references.
Which gets me thinking, do I really know what a fuzzy ferret assistant is,
and do I want to be one????? I think I do, I think I do.
I haven't seen Minority Report, it doesnt come out untl next friday, but you
can bet I'll be there ipso facto. I'm very excited about it, for various
reasons.
First of all, I must admit Spielberg is a great director. Yeah, okay, he's
too into the Hollywood system so he has to keep a line, but damn, he's a
fine imagery craftsman. Just look at the movies he's done: ET, Jaws, Close
Encounters, Schindler's List, Jurassic Park, that first scene on Saving
Private Ryan and above all these, AI. Fuck I loved that movie. Made me cry
three times. We have to give it to him, he's kind of a genius.
Then you have him direct a story by Phillip K. Dick, who is awesome. That
starts sounding very very good. The only other movie that's been based on a
novel of his is one of my all time favs. ( i know he also wrote the short
story that became Total Recall, but i'm not gonna bring the Schwarzenneger
factor into this discourse, I mean, who would??? )
And then comes Tom Cruise to the mix. Let me tell you, I have some
expectations for that. When he was young, he was basically a nice face, but
I think his last movies have been quite good and he's an important factor in
that. Do I want to see Eyes Wide Shut with Billy Bob Thornton in it? NO! I
want to see Tom's nice face working its ass off to make it believable, and
by me, he did a damn fine job. Magnolia was a great movie as well, and he
did another spectacular job in it. I even liked Mission Impossible 2, of all
movies! ( not to mention the bastard has some, little, tiny luck with women,
grrr ).
So... yes, I do want to see a new movie by Spielberg, I do want to see
another Phillip K. Dick story on the screen, and yes, I do want to see Tom
jumping off speeding elevators ( or whatever those are in the trailer ).
Conclusion: I really want to see this movie.
e.
ps. speaking of disappointng finales... does anyone agree that Fight Club's
could have been much much better?

There really seems to be a sad trend in our society where the criminals get
more sympathy than their victims. I've seen local TV news stories where
the cameras are on a group of people outside a courtroom going on about how
what's happening to their friend or family member is so terrible and
tragic- and then it turns out that the people on camera were lamenting the
conviction and/or sentencing of a criminal!
this thing about the priests really pisses me off:

Uh, that's how it should be. Either molesting children, or having taken
part in covering it up, and yeah, I think it's only fair that *they* have
to answer to the public.
cyndi wrote:

You know, I've always wondered what songs from which Plugged AT 35 tour
were ultimately used for the live TVAB CD. I was at the d30-m2-AT35 show
here in San Antonio, and it would be very interesting to see if anything
from that show might have ended up on the CD.
brian wrote:
>Has anyone ever had a dream where they've woken up, then actually woke up

Happens to me quite often. Usually not nightmares, just dreams where I
wake up and go through a day's activities, and then I wake up for real
disoriented because it feels like the following day. Like sleeping Sunday
night, dreaming you've gotten up and gone through Monday, then you wake up
for real on Monday morning thinking it's Tuesday.
so, I take it your local phone company should be called "Hellstra"? The
local cable company here in San Antonio used to be called Paragon, of
course, we called it Para-Con.

thank you :) What happens from time to time is that I find myself in the
middle of some huge misunderstanding and I've had way too many experiences
where whatever mistake I might have made can't be fixed or made up for, and
people around me staying angry long after whatever has happened to offend
them in the first place.

Even with the apparent backing down on the nuclear part of things, for now
anyway, the danger never really goes away. I've said it before- two
nuclear armed countries and the whole concept of deterence is totally lost
on them. During the Cold War there was always the threat of an all-out
US/USSR nuclear war but leaders on both sides understood that they had too
much to lose, with both sides possessing nuclear arsenals large enought to
make a nuclear war suicide many times over. With India and Pakistan
however, it's almost like the leaders in each country are daring their
counterparts to start a war.

Like how in Star Trek the so-called "Neutral Zone" didn't do much to lessen
the danger of conflict between the Romulans and the Federation. I agree
with you about how bad a war in Kashmir would be even without the nuclear
threat- I recall a news program where it was said that such a war would
make event the ongoing conflict in the Balkans pale in comparison.

I've seen ads for similar devices, and I'm thinking the same thing. Unless
there's a disclaimer that says "Not for use by burglars and car theives".
But just what "legal" uses would it be for? I can see a situation where
someone buys a car at a repo or police auction and needs to get inside.
Usually though in those situations they hire a locksmith since they're
going to need new sets of keys.
In a similar vein, books and videos on how to do something that's illegal
will have the disclaimer "For entertainment purposes only".

chris- I've heard other people discussing a similar "what if?" theory about
what really happened leading up to the Sept. 11th attacks.
for cyndi's list of rain songs:
Another Rainy Night (Queensryche)
When the Levee Breaks (Led Zeppelin)
Raging Waters (Testament). (both those songs seemed to fit in here in
San Antonio a couple of weeks ago!)
and then there's "Riders On The Storm" by The Doors.
and congrats by the way :)
