[ =======================> In RDT History <======================= ]
On August 12th in 1992, members were discussing the re-release
of SATY/MAAG.
In 1998, concert talk, and members were doing their best to
drop the '15-year-old fans' thread.
In 1999, gets a little toasty, members post Tori's comments on
Disney, and Blair Witch.
[ =======================> In RDT History <======================= ]
On August 13th in 1994, a member posts that Tori stopped China
shortly after starting it at her Aug 12th concert saying
(paraphrased) "I can't do this song. I wrote this song for
someone and he isn't with me anymore" and then later in the
concert:
Third of all (to keep with the same intro's), a man gave her
flowers to start off the second encore. She walked up and
took the flowers went back to her piano and threw them down.
Throwing them is a little harsh but she sent them hurtling
to the floor. And right after that she said, this next song
is for Eric. That poor guy must have had his heart crushed.
And when Tori was done, she left those flowers right where
she threw them.
In 1998, members are still discussing 'the 15-year-old fan'
thread [geez, is it *ever* going to end?!], and concert
experiences.
In 2001, the topic of human cloning is raised, while members
post about scout groups and homosexuality.

whoa, new people posting fast as hell, hey, wait a se.. fu... wha...

Just wanted to say something about real men.
I don't know what makes a real man. I honestly don't. But for one thing, its
definitely not the nice hair, not singing in the shower and most definitely
not this: "logically what makes a real man is a male between the ages of 18
and beyond with a penis."
If those were the requirementes ladies, the world would be full of real men.
And maybe it is... who knows?
And it's not to put Julie down, but all the things she says she looks for in
a "good man" wouldn't work for hell if the guy hadn't all the contrary
qualities as well. I do believe a "real man", and take that however you
want, has got to have some part of asshole and bastard in him. Yes, all
women want a guy who is caring, but be honest, caring isn't enough, there
has got to be that raw bestial side for women to be attracted to.
And I'm not saying women are only attracted to the animal side of men, don't
get me wrong, but what I've learned from experience is that women feel much
more comfortable with a man who "gets things moving", so to speak...
Dunno, maybe that's the women I know, but I sincerely ask you women in this
list, do you need that raw quality, in any way, in men?
hoping that didn't go wrong

BOY.. playing Grand Theft Auto at 3 in the morning can do things to your
head.. but then so can listening to classic (pre-Dookie era) Green Day
while chugging that new blue pepsi combined with sucking on gobstoppers by
the fistful.. :D rofl I REALLY have GOT to stop falling behind on any of
the RDTRN's.. period.. anyway..
e said: "As much a loser as he was, at least Clinton wasn't a vengeful
Texan on a murderous spree. God save the world, cause Bush obviously won't."
tell that to my boyfriend and he'll worship the ground you walk on,
most likely.. lol.. *shrug*
e THEN found out he loved the SLG album... so I say.. YAY!!!! :) congrats,
e! I love it too.. I just don't crave to listen to it like I do TVAB and
FTCH.. *grins* but YAY! :)
e then said: "I should definitely spank myself for being such a bad fan.
Bad fan Bad fan."
oh, stop torturing yourself. It just takes some fans longer to grasp
things of Tori's than others.
Simon said of Fight Club and our AIM convo regarding that: "yes :) Looks
like a movie I need to see. We were talking about how sometimes the
critics will try so hard to find things in a movie to analyze that they
miss the point of the film. Actually it reminds me of the overanalysis one
might do on a reading assignment for a class, just in case their teacher
thinks they haven't read the assignment ;)"
HA!! good analogy there! lol.. so are you insinuating that some of the
reviewers weren't paying close enough attention to GET it, or do you think
they just needed another watch? because with me.. it took me two viewings
to actually get it. the first time I saw it, it... it basically repeatedly
smacked me upside the head with a 2X4 and I couldn't GRASP what I thought
of it or how it made me feel, but I did know I needed to see it again.. so
be prepared for that.
Simon replied to my bit about "attention seeking syndrome" and my theory
that everyone has it to some degree: "Attention seeking does have a
negative connotation, but I don't think it's wrong when you get good
feedback on positive things you've done, or actively seek out people with
similar interests to share ideas with. The negative side of it comes into
play when someone is aggressively hostile to anyone or anything that gets
in the way of *everything* going their way."
like a nice big huge insane and ridiculous flamewar? :D
Simon replied to my blurb about the videos I have on my computer: "What
sort of videos have you made?"
they're just music videos.. I used songs by Kid Rock, Green Day,
Michael Jackson, Madonna, and I used one song by a friend of mine who lives
in Norway too, in fact.. lol what happens is.. a REALLY good song (hey I
even did a video for Datura, it's just not on the computer yet!) or a song
that strikes a chord with me or something like that.. might spark a video
idea of previous footage that I have on hand, etc.. so then I runnnnnn home
to my machine and get right to work. In FACT.. my next video (I need to
rent Charlie Brown footage for this, first, but my local Blockbuster sucks
ass..) is gonna be using "Not The Red Baron". :)
and I'll tell ya.. first music video I EVER made on this machine.. the
VERY minute the machine was set up (it was midnight).. I sat down and
worked on it for 12 hours straight! that was my first video *EVER*.. and
everyone to this very day.. ***STILL*** calls it my best work yet.. o_O
even though I've improved with other things such as effects and whatnot..
*baffled*
Simon explained Saturn's coloring to me: "Not quite as colorfull when seen
through a small telescope but the rings are visible and the planet's
natural butterscotch color is apparent. Up close it's not as colorful as
Jupiter, which even in a small telescope shows the larger cloud belts and
the four largest moons."
holy shit you could see JUPITER???? rofl.. SWEET! and thanks for
correcting me on the spelling of Callisto.. :D
Simon on disabled ppl etc: "It seems like as long as it's just people
interacting informally things go great, whereas the people I've met who are
in some kind of support capacity or otherwise have some official stake in
the disabled community have unfortunately been very hostile to anything
that doesn't fit their "official" concept of what disability is supposed to
be like....."
*shrugs* I've had doubts in the past of fitting in with either world
(hearing vs deaf) because in school, I was treated like crap by both
sides.. but that was before high school.. then high school came along and I
hardly had any problems regarding that.. anyway, point is.. I think part of
what plays into this is MATURITY and ACCEPTANCE and TOLERANCE.
and um.. WHAT was that Leonard Nimoy video thing ANYWAY?? o_O??
Simon said: "Wasn't Finding Forrester about the head of the Deep 13
facility of the Gizmonics Institute?"
not this one.. this one had Sean Connery in it playing as the part of
some hermit old guy.. :D
Simon (not ranting, thankfully) said: "...I think the things about religion
that have upset me aren't religion as a whole, but what some people tend to
do- focusing on either the hellfire and damnation
angle or presenting a very defeatist and fatalistic view, instead of trying
to share their beliefs in a positive way."
I think those sides of religion are absolutely ridiculous, too, Simon.
I'm not your average Christian.. and I'm proud of that.. and I mean that in
the sense of.. for example--my sister and her husband.. they're Mormons--my
sister converted so she could marry him.. so I've learned a LOT about that
religion.. Ben and Deanna (that's them) don't go "oh you're gonna go to
Hell!" if you don't believe the way they do.. they'll leave you alone
unless you ask stuff and want to be informed. ANYWAY.. they dropped by the
Baptist church one Wednesday evening just to hang out for the usual
Wednesday meetings.. and you know what they were doing?
it's appalling.. the Baptist church was spreading false information
about Mormons because there's going to be a new church built in this city..
they had no clue WHAT the Mormons are like and they were basically planting
false ideas into innocent people's heads.. and when I found out about that,
I was *furious*.. because the one thing I've known is.. if you're out to
destroy somebody or some religion or whatever.. find out the truth about
'em.. study it.. KNOW YOUR ENEMY.. it really pissed me off to no end.. I am
NEVER going back to THAT Baptist church again.. ever. *grr* anyway.. *calms
down*
Simon then said of Greystone the kitty (I don't care if that's not his
name.. lol that's what I called him! :)): "cute kitten :) glad he got back
home :)"
so am I.. :) very much so. :)
John said in reply to who Patti Smith is: "Yup. Started as a visual
artist, moved into poetry, started adding music to the poetry, ended up a
rock star, quit that to be a wife and mom (and poet), then started
performing regularly again when her husband died. Oh, and I left out "rock
critic," which she also did before she became a musician, as did her
guitarist Lenny Kaye."
oh.. very kewl.. VERY kewl.. :) and didn't she do punk-style music too? :)
Rebecca replied to the advice I picked up from Finding Forrester: "I'd say
that's good advice. My head is just too much of a loudmouth I guess."
ALL of our heads are, usually.. the trick is learning to tell it "SHUT
the FUCK UP before I have to go up there and BEAT YOUR ASS BLACK AND BLUE!"
and actually seeing to it that it actually OBEYS! :D
Beth said: "I haven't done much this week with all the work I did, but I
did start reading "Fellowship of the Ring," to discover that the bit I
couldn't get through last time wasn't even part of the book, it was the
extended history of the hobbits in the prologue. Hmmm."
it embarrasses me, almost, to say so but.. I just don't get that book.
I can't finish it. I'm tryyyyyyyyyyyying my damndest.. and I'm into the
actual STORY now, but.. let's just say it makes my brain hurt.. and that
sucks cuz I WANNA READ IT and ENJOY IT and UNDERSTAND IT!! :P
Julie replied to my question of "what makes a real man?": "Well, logically
what makes a real man is a male between the ages of 18 and beyond with a
penis. But being a GOOD MAN is different. They have to have so much more.
Everyone's opinion of a GOOD MAN is different so I can really sound like I
know everything in this. But for me a good man is kind, caring,
understanding, self-confident, open minded, etc."
good answer.. very good answer. :)
Lavs replied to my question regarding upside down cake and "blue little
world": "Ah, the recipe was in response to the song (since they were
discussing food Tori has mentioned in song and interview for menu items for
the various Torifests). (what a great run on sentance that was!)"
rofl.. sweet assness.. very kewl.. rofl.. especially since that's what
I figured was the case.. more or less. rofl
Lavs then grumbled: "Bah, I have a cold. And I should be painting furniture."
*sticks tissue in Lav's face in front of her nose...* blow. (get
better soon! :))
The Purple Faerie (or should we call you BloodRoses?) said: "I shall be

YAY! if more people come to GA.. we can have a little Arty Turner
get-together! WHEE!
BloodRoses then said, after my musing of when my little niece will be born:
"My uncle was born August, 21st (I'm pondering getting a birthday cake that
says "Happy birthday Dave and Tori!" and start eating it just before
midnight :))."
I dare you to! rofl that'd rock! :)
and on that warm and squishy note.. *blows kisses and waves before running
off to play with all of the faeries* GOOD NIGHT! :)

Ah, yes. Sorry, having been on the list during the time in question I was
perhaps a little too brief in that reference. There was a lot of discussion
about the book (and Poe) around this time, but sometimes it was a bit
scattered. Having neither read the book or heard any stuff by Poe I can't
comment on either.

There are Altman movies of which this is true (Pret A Porter comes to
mind), but I didn't feel that way about Gosford Park.
I just saw it for the third time (I saw it twice when it was in theaters),
and I find it very moving. There is a "plot" (in the usual movie sense)
which is the murder, but Altman obviously doesn't care about that, and he
encourages you not to care about it either (the detective is an idiot, and
he's the only really one-dimensional character in the movie). What
interests Altman is all the other crimes, big and small, the ones which led
up to the murder.
And then there are a lot of small threads which go throughout, like the
ways that the servants follow the example of the masters, with all their
own protocols and hierarchies, and the characters who are the most shunned
(the Americans) are the ones who don't understand the rules.
Altman is often accused of having contempt for his characters, but he
certainly doesn't show any here. He obviously has enormous feeling for the
two sisters who have hated each other for years, for no really good reason
(and with so much in common). And he obviously really likes two of the
most awkward and insecure characters, the novice ladies maid who actually
solves the crime(s), and the young (and hopelessly middle class) wife whose
face lights up when Ivor Novello is singing.
I think the trick may be to see it again. Some scenes which seem like
nothing special when you see them the first time are very moving when you
see them and understand what's really going on.
As B/4,

Do you ever make ones about RDT?
Someone -- forgive me but I deleted it so I forget who -- asked what makes a
good man. (Or was it "real man"?)
I think at this point the #1 thing for me is integrity (some who I
know would call this 'honour'). To me it means a number
of things, including being honest with himself, being honest
with others, being chivalrous/treating others how he'd want to be treated,
and striving to be a respectable person. It also means keeping his
word and not making promises he can't keep, and being kind-hearted most of
the time (and hard-hearted when necessary) and comfortable with himself,
flaws and all. Other things that are important to
me include intellect and a quick wit, and usually a willingness to work
hard to achieve his goals and dreams. I guess it's kind of a
tall order but that answers the question, I think.

Some of that sounds good...
I guess my definition is a man who does what needs to be done and is
happy to do it.
A man should do things that are caring, understanding and he should be
confident and somewhat open minded.
But a man could be all of those things and still not take care of
business *OR* he might take care of business and not be any of those
things (Hence my "and is happy to do it")
If indeed a good man exists anyway...:)

Silly internet provider (Telus business service - don't trust them, always
take down all info including who does everything)
Lots of stories but my 'net access is now intermittent - maybe weekly.
Missed y'all but there's lots of good stories....
(got some friends working on a comic opera based on their own love life...
very silly :)
So hi y'all and while I've been quiet lately who knows....
So all da best everyone!
G'day, eh? :)

Subject: Everybody! Get down!
Hola mes amies!
How are we all today? Getting down with our funky selves?
I am back from the magical land of corn and soybeans, commonly known to
some as Indiana. 8 hour drive, of which I drove an hour and 1/2. Go me.
No bloody deaths so far, although I did nearly run into a semi. Thing came
out of no where, I swear!
I also got a new computer only to discover that the cd burner didn't work
and that I like Windows 98 better than Windows XP but am too lazy to change
it. So we're taking back the computer tomorrow to replace it (never just
stick with a computer that has a problem first off. You're dooming
yourself.)
Yawn....Amelie was a great movie. See it, all of you.
I bought Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 2 on dvd but since my nifty new
computer with the built in dvd drive is being taken BACK tomorrow I cannot
watch it. I saw the first 14 episodes in Indiana but there are 22! Man!
Horror of horrors!
Ade! I must make you watch it! It is a great great great great show!
We also now have about 7 boxes filled with 1980s Avon junk after we cleaned
out my grandma's place somewhat.
My cat is way too thin. It's very very disturbing. Especially after
playing with my grandma's extremely fat cats in Indiana. Coco's soooo
small! :-( She's probably going to be put to sleep soon.
Cancer is stupid. I don't like it at all.
Driving 8 hours is never a good thing. And I want to go down to New
Orleans, dammit! I miss the south terribly. Sadness.
I'm going to be starting college in 11 days. Mother of God, help.
Nervousness nervousness nervousness. I must make new friends, and quickly!
I don't know anyone there.... :-(
How Now, Brown Cow?
