[ =======================> In RDT History <======================= ]
On August 18th in 1992, part 1 (of 2) of the Sept 92 Keyboard
article is posted. An excerpt about Tori's YKTR days:
TORI: You bet I did. I wouldn't talk to you about "Me and
a Gun" [from _Little Earthquakes_, the haunting revelations
of a rape victim]. As fr as I was concerned it didn't
exist. And if you wanted to talk to me about my Christian
guilt, I would tell you I had none. I was adamant about
what I was doing. I was defending it with every cell in by
body. And I wasn't going to expose the part of me that
could get cut up. What I didn't realize was that I wasn't
immune to getting cut up, no matter which part of me I was
showing.
In 1993, more on Kate Bush, taffy/toffee apples, and Torifests.
In 1996, members post about the relationship between Tori and
Trent, concert reviews, and The Virgin Suicides novel.
In 1998, the FTCH songbook is out, members post about how the
list is not strictly Tori centered, concert experiences, and a
"six Degrees of Tori Amos" web page is announced.
In 1999, more comments on Bliss (including the video), more
jabs at one another, and information about Silbury Hill.
In 2001, teachers, animals and drugs, and more comments on SLG.
[ =======================> In RDT History <======================= ]
On August 19th in 1992, details on the SATY 'limited ed'
released that week, one member posted about Tori's breathing
technique, Van Morrison, Tori's MTV video award nominations,
and part 2 of the Keyboards interview is posted:
"For the next record, I want to work with this instrument
exclusively, not synths with it, but the acoustic piano
alone. It could be percussive, or it could be orchestral,
maybe it could have effects. There might be solos. I'm
finally claiming that this is my instrument. Because I can
hear what it's saying to me. And now it says, 'I have some
really good ideas and you're a human, and you could take
them down for me -- if you can get your own stuff out of the
way to respect the fact that you're not the only one who's
got ideas.' I've really become very close to it now."
In 1993, the pending Torifests (and trying to co-ordinate chats
around the world), and responses to a newbies question about
whether MAAG is about Tori being raped herself (with of course
some saying 'no she wasn't' and others saying 'yes she was').
In 1996, the list is mentioned in "Books of Magic: Summonings"
(the author is John Ney Reiber):
In the preface, the author writes, "And Western civilization
demonstrably has lots of them [ice cream]. We even have
songs about ice cream. (1)".
And the footnote says, "Note to the readers of
rec.arts.comics.vertigo, and subscribers to
really-deep-thoughts: Yes, this is an allusion
to a Tori Amos song. No one *made* me do it,
though. I'm alluding of my own free will."
In 1997, Violet posted a message on the ToriNews mailing list
explaining that the reason for the list disappearing was due to
Chris going on vacation (and that she would kill him for
worrying her when he gets back ... is it any wonder people type
'violent' instead of 'Violet'???)
In 1998, reviews, was that Tori on Party of Five?, more post on
how this list is for non-Tori too, Tori remembering people,
faeries, lyrics for the hymn Beulah Land, and the JS vid.
To read more about these items, visit the list archives.

Hi everyone
Just a quick note to say that I have to unsub for a while. Uni is going
really well - I've met some great people and am finding it mentally
challenging, its also been great for my confidence and I am learning
many new skills. Unfortunately its taking over the majority of my time
at the moment so will hopefully subscribe again in January next year.
Best wishes to all on the list, enjoy Scarlett's Walk!!
Feel free to email privately if you'd like to.
Will miss you all,
love,
Lisa ;-)

I feel very.. fucked up, for lack of a better way to put it. I
guess I could blame it on this last week (being a girl can suck, you
know.) and PMS on top of a few of my friends running to me ALL WEEK for
help because THEY'RE depressed and they want me to help them figure their
problems out ON TOP of right now I'm feeling guilty in the absolutely
MOST fucked up way about becoming an EWF and growing out of Michael
Jackson after having been a fan of him for seven fucking whole years. I
don't even understand why I feel so bad about it.
I've rambled to my best friend about it already, but right now,
I'm clueless about what to do and WHY I feel so.. weird and out of place.
I'm just thankful that, number one, I have my best friend around to rely
on, and number two, that I'm a part of this list. My friend understands,
but I wonder if anyone else has ever felt the way I do in any way. I feel
like I'm doing the same thing my friends have been doing to me all this
week--running to the nearest person and screaming "FIX MY PROBLEMS!" but
I dunno who else to talk to. my parents are asleep and I don't they'd get
it anyway. I have *no* local friends (and by that I mean neighbors or
anybody in the same CITY.) to talk to, and it's nearly 1AM as I write
this anyway.
I don't EVER want to lose interest in Tori and discover somebody
else, and go through with this again in seven years.. I'm still a fan of
Michael Jackson but I feel almost like a freaking TRAITOR because I'm not
concerned about him anymore, and meanwhile some of my old friends are
still fanatical and are fully launching into that Sony boycott that he
(MJ) has been preaching about.. (something that I never really gave a
damn about even if it is MICHAEL JACKSON!) and SOMETHING is not feeling
right about that. I don't think so, anyway. I feel like I'm losing my
mind right now, so I'm sure I'm rambling right now, but I really don't
know what to do, so *shrug* I just feel VERY unsure of myself about this,
so just bear with me. Anyway, I guess I've said what I needed to say. If
anybody can relate.. PLEASE let me know.. cuz right now, I feel like the
odd one out.
anyway, the next post from me is most likely gonna be my usual
happy stuff, so don't despair. :)

Our Boston benefit concert for RAINN and Tori Birthday Party is just a few
days away! At the event we’ll be playing a new song that Tori specifically
recorded for the RAINN fundraisers. This song will not be officially
released and is a RAINN party exclusive!
Rock for RAINN, A Benefit to Unlock the Silence
This Thursday, August 22 at 7pm
Matrix at the Roxy at 279 Tremont St., Boston, MA
We have some great things planned including:
Performances by:
Emm Gryner (Emm is amazing she's played Lilith Fair, toured with Bowie, and
released a covers album with the same concept as Strange Little Girls
(before SLG). Check her out if you haven't heard her stuff. There is a big
crossover between Emm and Toriphiles).
We also have in our lineup -
Brian Webb, Rachel McCartney
and The Hirsh Project
Free Tori cake for Tori and a table where you can send your birthday wishes
to our favorite piano player.
And besides all the fun, this is a really great cause. The fight against
sexual assault is even more relevant today. Sadly, it seems that every day
there are headlines about abuse in the church, assaults in our cities and
towns. Please support RAINN and be part of the solution. RAINN has helped
over 500,000 rape victims and really needs our help to continue operating.
Someone is raped every two minutes and RAINN provides a necessary service
for those victims. They don’t get any government funding at all. RAINN was
picked as one of the top 100 charities in America by Worth Magazine. Tori
helped found RAINN and serves as the chair of their advisory board.

my anti-depressant story: was on Zoloft for a couple
months, it drove me nuts and wouldn't let me sleep,
switched to Prozac for a couple more months, it seemed
to work but i let my prescription lapse, mostly because
i'm too lazy and scatterbrained to remember to take
daily medication (which proves to be a problem,
especially when it comes to birth control).
best advice i could offer is if one med doesn't work,
don't be afraid to tell your doctor, and work with
him/her until you find something that works for you.
it's different for every person.
Megan - cute kid story. just went to see my (well,
really my parents') godchild, and he's 19 months and
already talking in sentences, which is a big leap
forward in the month since I had seen him.
his grandmother was there (she's from Alaska) and had
her dogs with her, one of which had the deepest brown
eyes i've ever seen. so beautiful, with such soul in
them. she told me he's part coyote, which i thought was
so cool. he has such a gentle, quiet disposition, too.
makes me wish i could have a dog, more than ever.

megan's posting about TV in Afghanistan reminded of a news story I saw right
after the ouster of the Taliban- people were setting up satelite dishes made

And why even bother advertising openings when they're not really going to

scenes they've already filled the position.

I recently got some and they do seem to work, which now gets me thinking
that my stereo needs to be looked at because it still skips on some CD's.
Sucks that it might be a problem with the stereo but at least it means that
my CD's are probably ok after all.

good comparison, both illustrate that something being acessable free
initially ultimately leads to the user paying for it if they're impressed
enough with what they got to check out free.

So just how are they going to track down all those evil Morpheus and Kazaa
users? I'm still pissed that internet radio has been legislated out of
existence, because of the recording industry heavily lobbying to put a
royalty fee scheme into place they knew net radio operators couldn't afford.
Of course, the large over the air broadcasters get the *lower* rates, and if
net radio had been allowed to follow a similar model those operators might
have been able to stay in business.

Thunderbirds movies have popped up on late-night TV on rare occasions in the
past several years- I've never seen that much use of miniatures in a movie.
I think I read that the producers of Thunderbirds also employed improved
versions of those effects in more serious sci-fi productions later on.

I've been feeling like that myself lately. Not sure *why*, but it feels
like hours of sleep somehow aren't enough of a good rest. Sometimes a
feeling of "blah" just sort of creeps in.

Now we're talking about them as 19 year old fans ;) And when they're a

Not saying all critics are like that but yeah, sometimes it seems like they
want their critique to come across like they've gotten more out of the movie
than the general public. People like Ebert and Roper are really great about
explaining their critiques so even if they've panned a movie you might have
liked, at least you can respect where they're coming from.
I wonder though- would we get more acurate film reviews if critics versed in
a particular genre reviewed the movies that fell within their field of
expertise. I say tht because some really bad reviews seem driven by an
intense personal dislike of a particular type of film.
the videos you showed me are really good. amazing what you can do *without*

Jupiter is large enough to be almost as bright as Venus despite being so
much further from Earth, so yeah, even in a small telescope Jupiter and the
four largest moons are going to be easily seen. The image is going to be
small but the largest cloud belts and the red spot show up. If you have
access to a good pair of binoculars you *might* be able to get a look at
Jupiter as well.
One thing that's fun to look for- although tricky from my location because
of light pollution- are passing satelites. I saw Mir a few times just after
sunset and the ISS has these huge solar panels that are very reflective and
during a pass at the right time the the station is really bright.
Reentering shuttles at night are also very unforgettable! :)
now I'm wishing I had the money for a new telesope *and* a good place for
proper stargazing :)
btw- am I the only one who's wondered how werewolves would deal with living
on a planet with multiple moons? ;)

That's been my experience, although I have to wonder if the hateful kids in
elementary learned that behavior at home or if it's some weird instictive
thing some kids unfortunately act on. High school was a pain in the ass at
times but I got along with everyone fine overall. Two of my oldest friends
are two guys I've known since high school.

Ah, so he wasn't tormenting a former worker and two robots aboard an
orbiting ship by sending them really bad movies? ;)
great comments on religion and uninformed criticism.

you can make painting easier by either using a sprayer or using the
technique Mr. Bean used to paint his living room ;) For outside walls,
spray paint is very commonly used, just look at the exteriors of buildings
in any large US city, as well as on some trains.....

a little before my time, but reruns were floating around in the 70s when I
was a kid. Bannana Splits! :)
I heard something really strange over the weekend- apparently there are
actually people who seem to think that Elvis Presley died back in 1977.
Next thing you know, people will be insisting that Oswald acted alone and
that Hangar 18 doesn't exist! ;)
