Subject: Star Wars 2: A Different Perspective

My son John is a true Star Wars fanatic and being his Father, I get involved
in this phenomenon. In 1977 my Dad and I took John to see Star Wars 4 and
his life has not been the same since. My wife and I see maybe a movie a
year and usually it is Star Trek or Star Wars with my son. My son seen Star
Wars 2 the day it opened (at Midnight) and we went with him to see it a week
later. After 25 years of continual Star Wars I have sort of become an
expert in these films. Following is my impressions of this movie. Knowing
how my mind works, it probably will be different than any other you have
read.

20 years ago all of us knew how Star Wars 1, 2, and the future 3 have to
come out. It is like reading a novel backwards trying to figure out why it
came out like it did. After all these years, the audience that will be
paying to see it again and again has stayed the same age. To make a buck,
the movie has to appear to this age gender. Most of the people my son's age
will see it once or twice and sanity will set in and that will be it.

The movie is geared to the primary age group that plays computer games and
goes to amusement rides. Star Wars 4 started the entire computer game
industry. Every kid wanted to shot Tie Fighters and computers just gained
the technologies to provide this thrill. Star Wars 2 seemed at times to be
a computer game running on the screen and I felt compelled to reach for my
mouse. I had no control over the action but I knew even 25 years ago that
the hero's will survive so there was no suspense. In the age of concurrent
engineering I suspect they may have designed the computer games and
amusement park rides as they did the graphics in the movie.

The thing of interest was the romance between the future Darth Vader and the
Princess Leia' Mother. The more Darth talked, the more it become spooky.
Untold number of costume changes and romantic locations, and she was lost.
In our society, if a girl dates and marries a guy at least 10 years younger,
all kinds of questions will be asked. If the girl is rich and powerful, the
gossip really flies. Cher tried it and all kind of grief resulted. But in
this movie all's fair in love and star wars.

I watched this movie as a non-fan at a Tori concert. The action is there
but the passion is missing. I am really here for someone else and if that
person was not there, neither would I. Near the end in the last of the
romantic scenes I finally saw something that caught my attention and raised
a few passions. There they were in their full glory. Were these Lucas's
final efforts to reach the 12-year mind on a sub-conscience level? I
regressed to my days in the early 70's. The cover of Carly Simons "No
Secrets" album shined brightly in my mind. Are vision of a new era in
fashion is approaching! Is the domination of Brittany Spears navel coming
to an end! You guess it, "Good God" (or should I say "Good Side of the
Force") Princess Leia's mother has nipples!

There are probably millions of 30 years people running around today for no
other reason that their mother had nice nipples. Just as 30 years from now
there will be millions of new people running around for no other reason than
their mother had a nice belly button! Where are all the nice nipple girls?
Are they on a secret planet? Has the bra culture destroyed their chances to
display their assets! Is a New World approaching for them? In Star Wars 4
Carry Fisher had to wear straps to pull her breast in so she looked flat.
She was not ever allowed to bounce! Nipples were no where to be seen.

Getting back to Star Wars 2, it appears Darth and the Princess were products
of "Plan Nine from Outer Space". They kissed and rolled around at little
but that was it. We know they went at it at least once in a unprotected
mode of operation in their later life. The problem with "Plan 9 from Outer
Space" is that you do not know what you are getting in Satisfaction Level
until it is too late. However, it is a good bet that a Jedi Knight has to
have a high Satisfaction Level. It certainly appears logical that someone
that can perform superhuman tasks has to be good in bed. I can't see a Jedi
Knight popping out in 3 minutes.

In Star Wars 4 we know Darth was more machine that human, we may never know
what parts was missing. In fact in Star Wars 3, 4, and 5, we never see
Darth go to the washroom nor is there a zipper in his uniform. This
certainly gives raise to strong suspicions on what may have gotten lost.
Maybe this is why Princess Leia's mother went into hiding.

For that matter neither do the star troopers have zippers. They have to be
most asexual creatures the ever seen in the movies. I can now see it see in
my mind, Star Wars 7, "The Rehabilitation of the Clones". Leia and Hans
have been married for 35 years and their kids are off the payroll. They
decide to take Luke with them on a Globus bus tour of Tatooine. In a chance
meeting in a hotel swimming pool they learn of a secret planet and after the
tour they fly off the find the secret planet populated with hoary girls with
nice nipples. Sadly Hans and Luke are too old and die a joyful death.
Light sabers and blasters were no match for hoary girls with nice nipples.
The pool fellows had too much of a good thing. After a short grief, Leia is
a last free of restraints and leads the girls to domination of the galaxy.
Under her leadership the girls start their invasion of the galaxy and
millions of star troopers are into moments of great discoveries. Galaxy is
not the same. Star Wars can at last come its logical conclusion

Sometimes my brain works too much in these movies. I am waiting for Star
Wars 3. I hope you can keep a straight face the next time you see Star
Wars.

Have to end.

Footnote:

I have been running around all Summer. We spent two weeks in Germany
(Globus bus tour!), a week at Lehigh University, a week in Quebec City, and
other weekend trips. We are going to be in West Haven, CN for a wedding in
a few weeks.

Last Fall I did a post on "An Afternoon with Tori" about my quest for
grandkids. I mentioned that we were not holding our breath for my daughter
but was looking for a mate for my son. Talked to my daughter last week and
discovered that I will be going into the grandparent business next March.
If it is a girl it will be Christian, and a boy, Jewish. Should be
interesting!

Subject: Happy New Year!

A most glorious Day of The One to you all! AT 39 promises to be a
glorious year, with the new CD and tour, we shall witness another quantum
leap into previously unknown realms of artistry as the boundries of
perfection are forever redefined in the way only The One herself can do.

Through her music, her example, and her inspiration, mere survival has
become true living. Living today for a brighter tomorrow.

And we shall follow her on that journey into the glorious future! Her music
is what shall drive us onwards towards new horizons, our resolve growing
with each step forward, with the dawn of each new day. Even through stygian
nights and desolate places, our resolve shall not waver, with our commitment
to her and her music driving us onward, on that path ahead of us. We have
one dream, one vision of today, that which is the reality of tomorrow!

We live for The One, We die for The One.

>Was this ever confirmed? Seems out of character for her (read: damnable
>slanderous lie perpetrated against her)

It seems to be the start of Tori and Eric's break up, which would explain
why it is out of character.

Oh, talk about coincidence, Tiarna pulled my Banana Splits video out of the
cupboard the other day and wanted to watch it (I think half the reason was
it has a pic of Scooby on the spine). She's watched it twice now. I'll have
her singing the theme song soon ;)

Heh, we went out for dinner tonight, and the Proclaimers "I'm on My Way"
came on, and Tiarna starts going on about it being from Shrek. I need to
give this girl an education.

Holy frelling smeg! Natashya is nearly potty trained already? Go Tash!!! My
mum says I was trained at about 18 months... I'd say I'd agree doing it in
the summer is easier (less layers of clothes), plus disposable nappies
(diapers) don't give the icky wet feel and thus don't really give the
incentive (heh, a few free tips for Erika and anyone else in the future :)

Julie asked which Tori song we relate to the most and why... simple -
Winter. Because I grew apart from my Dad. There may be others, but that one
always comes to mind first of all.

Ack - I can't do interps that spur of the moment, unless it's something I've
jsut read that gets me on a train of thought. I know I've sent stuff here in
the past and posted it on the interp forum, I should track them down and
save copies of them...

Though I noticed something in the Foxtel guide today - made me think of
Anastasia (other than the program they had on her). It was about Woodrow
Wilson's (who always makes me think of the Simpsons) wife, who apparently
acted as president for a year after he died. The year? 1919 :) Which I think
is all cool and very Tori-ish. But if you guys (ie the USA) had a female
leader all those years ago, why the frell hasn't there been one since (other
than she would have to be elected, and I can see the problems with that
happening). Which does bring me to something... the massacre was in 1918,
and I don't recall any details about what Tori could be refering to about
1919 as far as Anastasia goes, though I know I've read the question being
asked. So does anyone have any thoughts?

WOOHOO!! Tori's birthday!!! TODAY! rofl.. too bad she doesn't
read RDTRN or else I'd say happy bday to her. lol.. anyway.. on with the
prettiful replies!!

Chris said of his disappearance mention in the retros: "I just wouldn't
want anyone to think that I didn't take my responsibilities seriously and
I'm sorry if I led everyone to believe that."
honestly, at the mention of your disappearance, first thing that
went through my head was drastic serious stuff. *shrug*

our favorite Succubus Barbie posted us a poem.. ha! verrrrry very very
nice! I like! :D

she then asked: "Does anyone here know anything about snake cults?
Anyone willing to share?"
I think the "snake cult" you're thinking of--in the video
anyway--is just the Pentecostals. My boyfriend has a brother who isn't
one, but is like.. very positive about him, and I asked him "so he's not
a member?" and he said "well, he hasn't charmed any snakes that I know
of." which made me think of the God video, immediately.. so at least in
that video, I'm thinking Tori's just playing with snakes with the
Pentecostals. *shrug* I could be wrong tho.

Julie H asked: "Which Tori song do you relate to the most? Please
explain why."
um..... I wanna say Northern Lad because I love it so much.. or
Liquid Diamonds.. or Hey Jupiter for the same reason.. but.. really, I'd
have to say.. The Waitress--and not the album cut.. the Venus Live cut!
(it makes me feel--when listening to it--almost like.. well.. when I hear
it, I feel a sense of rage happening in me, and yet I'm not sitting there
going "grrrrrr...." and ready to smack the first person I see.) Because..
well.. don't we all feel like hurting someone who treats us like we're
the idiot? :D I felt like that all through middle school and I still do
when someone gets rude with me.. be it ignorance or just "go away. I
don't have patience for you". *shrug*

Julie then asked: "How do you interpret Tori's songs? Just list some
songs and next to them tell me how you interpret them in her point of
view and your's."
um.. hmm... I dunno how I'd put it in that sense.. but some
songs, I think of little video ideas that would have--for me at
least--worked.. like for example--with Liquid Diamonds, I imagine
(because it's so beat driven) there being a group of dancers.. dancing
onstage to the song while Tori's still at the center, but more off to the
side (to make room for the dancers) and playing and singing away.. first
few times I *really* listened to LD, I pictured myself in a dance studio
of sorts, dancing to it and then Tori walking into the studio quietly,
and sitting down somewhere to watch. *grin!*

and on that note, I've got the hiccups.. DAMN IT! later :D

Subject: shocker

What exactly DOES "haver" mean? The only definition
on www.dictionary.com is: To maunder; to talk
foolishly; to chatter. Somehow, that definition
doesn't satisfy me. Is there more to it than that??
It's such a cool word, that's all.

"If I get drunk yes I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who gets drunk next to you
And if I haver yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's havering to you"
(- 500 Miles, by the Proclaimers)

That's such a freakin' romantic song. I want that
played at my wedding, if I should get happen to get
married.

Speaking of getting married, today I have made the
decision that if I ever marry a Catholic man, I will
not have the wedding in a Catholic church.

*Unless I get to bang the shit outta him in the
lobby.*

Dunno if any of you have really paid much attention to
this, but I have because I'm a fairly big Opie &
Anthony fan. The "shock jocks" (what a cheesy phrase)
were cancelled today because they encouraged and
broadcasted details of a couple who had sex in the
lobby of St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC.

Now, here's my issue: They've run this contest for two
years now, and every year, they encourage couples to
have sex in risky public places while they broadcast
it. The couple this year happened to be caught in a
religious place, and suddenly it's a huge f'ing deal.

Not that I'm totally disrespecting people's
religiousity, but I was under the impression that
there was supposed to be a separation of church and
state in the laws of the United States.

Then, why should having sex in a religious place have
such drastically higher consequences than having sex
in a secular place?? According to the law, there
should really be no distinction.

I wonder what would've happened if it weren't in a
church, but in a temple or a mosque. I wonder if they
would have been cancelled if they were caught in a
different religious institution. I highly doubt it,
but that's only my speculation.

I know that if the act had taken place in a secular
institution, they would have been slapped with a huge
fine, but taken off the air permanently? I *know*
that they wouldn't be taken off the air-- why do I
know this? It's come up in another incident in the
history of this radio show.

They've done similar stunts where people have gotten
arrested, and I think they were forced to pay
something in the range of a $20,000 fine, if I'm not
mistaken. Lewd public acts and indecent exposure were
the charges-- similar to what the couple could have
been charged for in the St. Patrick's Cathedral case.

Why weren't they taken off the air at that time??

As a side note, in all likelihood, the other two big
shows on the station (which I listen to during the
morning commute and at night when I get home) will be
cancelled as well, because they won't be able to
afford to stay on the air. I have a feeling that
sponsors are going to be pulling their money away from
the station as quickly as they can now that the big
act, the Opie and Anthony show, is gone.

Hmm. Anyway, that's my extensive rant. I'm just
upset. Aside from the fact that a bunch of really
cool people have lost their jobs, this means that my
main source of entertainment is gone. I don't watch
tv, and I don't have time to read for pleasure because
I have so much freakin' reading to do for school. I
listen to comic talk radio.

Well, looks like I won't be doing that anymore.

*phew*

At least it's Tori's birthday!! She should whip out
those old red leather pants and strut around in the
Cathedral, humping the organ.

(heheheheheheh, I said humping the organ.)

Hope all of you are feeling good, and then after that,
I hope that you're feeling even better.

~Linda~
