On August 23rd in 1993, more comments on the fun had via the
Torifests, Happy Rhodes, it's revealed a list member does a
radio show called 'Suspended in Gaffa', and members discuss
     liking particular words (eg Cincinnatti).

In 1996, various Tori appearances on the TV (notably Prime Time
Live), and a few more 'Happy Birthday Tori' messages.

In 1998, a member reports on finding a book about Snoopy and
the Red Baron amongst their childhood possessions, and concert
     reviews.

In 1999, a member reports that the term 'liquid diamonds' is
used in the Sandman comic "A Game Of You", and more thoughts on
     Bliss.

In 2000 feminism, and responses to the 'who would you be for 15
     mins?' question start rolling in.

In 2001, 'Happy birthday' messages for Tori, a member posts
about 'Instead' (with the subject line "PERIODS! MENSTRUATION!
     BLOOD!"), and RAINN parties.

  [ =======================>  In RDT History  <======================= ]

On August 24th in 1992, a report that once the tour winds down
Tori will have time to work on the sheet music (the songs
aren't even transcribed yet) and the video, the re-release of
the SATY single hits #26 in the UK charts, and the formation of
     a Tori fan club.

     In 1993, Tori live.

In 1996, Tori and the Force (yes, the Star Wars type), the Hey
Jupiter single, and comments on Tori recently covering 'Live to
     Tell' in concert.

In 1998, concert reviews, suggestions for the ultimate Tori mix
tape to convert someone, bit of a lingering flame fest (in
relation to the non-Tori content of the list), members selling
items from their Tori collection (including promo YKTR for
$175), and 6 degrees of Tori.

In 1999, reviews and comments on the new album, and a member
     posts his horror flatmate story.

In 2000, more responses to 'who would you be for 15 mins', rape
and 'asking for it'/boys and cheesecake, and Eminem.

  [ =======================>  In RDT History  <======================= ]

On August 25th in 1996, a member posts:

Chris, you should do something special to celebrate RDT's
        5th anniversary next year. :) If you want a 'best-of', I'll
volunteer to scan the archive over the upcoming year for the
        best posts. :)

[Lavs: and I thought it was original! Violet: Yeah, so did I.
Just goes to prove that there really is no such thing as an
original idea (though a five-year best-of would have been twice
as easy as this ten-year one). Chris told the person to go
ahead, but I don't think it ever happened. I don't remember it,
anyway. If I did, you can bet we'd be recycling that to cover
     the retros for '92-'97!]

     In 1999, reviews.

In 2001, tampons, pads, and depo provera (in a nut shell: the
messier side of the female reproductive system).

  [ =======================>  In RDT History  <======================= ]

On August 26th in 1993, the great moments in Tori songs, the
quality of the 'Kiss on the Glass' boot, and obtiaining Tori's
     b-sides.

In 1996, reviews, the story of how Tori came to play 'Live to
Tell' (Subject: pretending the green is your grass).

In 1998, a bunch of lurkers come out of the woodwork, and
     members discuss 'boring/simpler' Tori songs.

In 1999, rape ('asking for it').

In 2000, more response to 'who would you be for 15 mins'.

hi guys

two totally separate mentions of the proclaimers in one digest? this place
just keeps on going up in my estimation :)

my dictionary says that the verb "to haver" means "to talk nonsense or
foolishly" in scottish and northern english dialect. there's also two plural
nouns, "havers" and "haverings", which mean foolish talk or nonsense.
a "haverel" is a foolish person.

interestingly the verb can also mean "to waver, to be slow or hesitant in
making a decision".

"haver" is also a northern english dialect word for oats - derived from the
german "haber".

random word from the same page: "hautboy" - an old word for an oboe, also a
large kind of strawberry.

ok, that's enough dictionary-related haverings for now....

the single tori lyric i relate to most is:

"sometimes i hear my voice and it's been here, silent all these years".

i feel like i've been trying to find my voice for a long time without ever
quite getting there - "i've got something to say, you know, but nothing comes".

on that note,

matt

Hmm, lets see... this was mentioned in a retro. The retros are based on the
archive... ergo, the answer is in the archive. You even have it narrowed
down to a date.

But then you don't have to bother in the end because the definition you
found is basically the same. I guess it could mean lovey-dovey talk in the
sense of this song.

couple upcoming radio thinigies gleaned from the dent:

pittsburgh's wyep <url: http://www.wyep.org/ > will be debuting "a sorta
fairytale" today, august 23rd, around noon eastern time. as far as we know,
tori will not be making an appearance on wyep.

the netherlands' kinkfm <url: http://www.kinkfm.nl/ > will be broadcasting
a 2 meter session with tori on sunday, august 25th. it's unknown if this is
a new session or a repeat of a previous one. according to kinkfm's website,
the program airs from noon to 3pm local time (cet, i presume). i doubt the
entire program will be tori. kinkfm has an ogg vorbis stream (ogg is a open

The heat zaps my phone lines and makes my modem worthless, so once again,
I'm two weeks behind. On top of that, my server held all my mail and copied
it everytime I tried to download on a low bps, so I couldn't get everything
and then when I did, I had multiple copies of each. Is the internet
supposed to be this complicated? ;)

Matt noted and asked:

>>"RAINN was also named one of "America's 100
Best Charities" by Worth Magazine."

now how the heck do you judge good and bad charities?<<

I'm sure everyone has already answered this, but I'm gonna say RAINN rates
because of the amount of funds used to actually operate the charity as
opposed to admin costs, etc. RAINN has (had?) only two full time employees
and one part timer, none of whom was getting rich on their salaries. So 88
cents of each dollar raised actually goes to maintaining the phone lines.

Victoria, sorry about the depression. Been there and done that. Meds never
really helped me, but I lucked out and found a great therapist who helped me
get out of the abyss.

stephanie and claire! yay!

looking back at a digest a few days ago that i didn't bother to reply to, i
noticed that brad used the expression "poop on you." wow! you're one of
the only people outside my murrysville group of friends i've ever heard use
that phrase! cool! heh... i'm all right...

going to college on sunday and i need to do some major packing. went

Nope, I plan on training him the same way I was... however inadvertent it
actually was. I will nonchalantly leave pictures and catalogs around with
"big boy undies" in them. He will say he wants them, I will say when you
can go in the potty like a big boy you can big boy undies. He will never
wet his diaper again. Hey, it worked for me. My mom says I saw big girl
panties, and she said I couldn't have them until it was potty time and
*poof* the toilet bowl was my friend. Heh. I got my big girl panties too.
Hey, a girl can dream can't she.

>Julie asked which Tori song we relate to the most and why...
Girl - hands down. I'm still living it. I constantly fight with myself
about whose girl I want to be. Mine or theirs. And not even some be
concrete them like my parents or my husband, but the ethereal "them." So
many "them" (they?) to choose from. Frustrating really. It's even harder
now that I'm expected to subsume myself into my child's identity. I'm still
me, my own, whatever the hell that is *shrug* someday I'll know.

Be Well

I thought I had a normal sleep schedule.. and then I wound up
unable to sleep and reading Tori stuff at The Dent.. aaaaaack.. until
6AM.. and then woke up at 2:30.. wheeee...

Jim said: "Talked to my daughter last week and discovered that I will be
going into the grandparent business next March. If it is a girl it will
be Christian, and a boy, Jewish. Should be interesting!"
        woohoo! congrats! :)

Simon wished Tori a great bday, basically: "A most glorious Day of The
One to you all! AT 39 promises to be a glorious year, with the new CD
and tour..."
rofl.. Simon, I like the way you put it, there.. :D I really do.
:)

Lavs said, in reply to the retro involving Tori throwing a fan's flowers
down, etc: "It seems to be the start of Tori and Eric's break up, which
would explain why it is out of character."
        that's what I was thinkin'..

Lavs then said: "Holy frelling smeg! Natashya is nearly potty trained
already? Go Tash!!!"
shoot, yeah I know! my sister's nephew *by marriage, mind you* is
nearly 2 and he isn't potty trained yet.

Lavs then said of interpreting Tori songs: "...I know I've sent stuff
here in the past and posted it on the interp forum, I should track them
down and save copies of them..."
yeah, do that! and er... where's the interps forum..?

Linda said of that "500 miles" song: "That's such a freakin' romantic
song. I want that played at my wedding, if I should get happen to get
married."
my bf said that if he ever gets married. he wants They Might Be
Giants to play at his wedding.

Then, after a little rant about her fave shock-jock radio men getting
fired, Linda said: "At least it's Tori's birthday!! She should whip out
those old red leather pants and strut around in the Cathedral, humping
the organ."
WAHAAAAHAAAAHAHAH!! yeah, she oughta. she's 39 now.. she has
every damn right to do it! :D and yes, I feel LOADS better after having
read that.. HA! that was hilarious!

and on that distorted and feedbacky note.. CIAO!

1. a NY news radio station had a piece about how suddenly people are
eating more hot dogs. The lowly hot dog is popping up all over, even in
McDonalds, and they're selling more than ever.

I don't view this as a surprising development at all.

Hot dogs are cheap. The economy sucks. People are more broke than usual,
and more worried about money than usual. So, they're buying more hot
dogs.

2. I noticed that there's a movie coming out this fall called "Welcome to
Collinwood," and I said, "yes!!" and did a little dance.

Then I realized that it doesn't have anything to do with Dark Shadows.
No Barnabas, no Quentin, no Dr. Hoffman, no Angelique, no Professor Stokes
(whose name I used to write under).

Damn. That's like calling something "Welcome to Middle-Earth" and it
has nothing to do with Tolkien.

3. Opie and Anthony. I agree with Linda about everything, though I have
never heard the show. Besides, I don't see why people are so upset. It's
probably the first sex act in St. Pat's in years where both participants
were actually adults.

As B/4,

John
