  [ =======================>  In RDT History  <======================= ]

On August 27th in 1996, Anthony posts about the lists history
     and archives:

I think there was one [message] before that, saying
something along the lines of "hello everyone", but I hadn't
got the archiving working properly yet. There were also a
bunch of lead-up messages before that, sent to an alias of
about a dozen people. They mostly covered things like
establishing the existence of YKTR, me reviewing the first
Philly, TLA concert, and lots of discussions of what to name
        a Tori Amos mailing list.

[We have those messages saved and will put them up in a pre-RDT
section in the archives one day soon.]

In 1998, six degrees of Tori.

In 1999, members post about the Bliss singles, reviews, and
     comments on other TVAB songs.

In 2000, more responses on 'who would you like to be for 15
     mins?', and Happy Rhodes.

  [ =======================>  In RDT History  <======================= ]

On August 28th in 1994, members comment that the list is back
(see following note), and an article from the West Australian
     is posted:

"I couldn't believe that somebody who just wants to hold
hands and have cookies and chocolate milk would want to rip
this waitress's veins out of her throat," she says.

Also, Anthony posts a bit about the lists problems, concert
talk, and some discussion of Tori's appearance on Later
     with Greg Kinnear.

[NOTE: the list broke for a couple of weeks in August of 1994.
Anthony went on a trip home to the UK and shortly after he left,
Upenn upgraded server programs. This caused the mailing list
script to break. A list member managed to track Anthony down
in England where he attempted to fix the list via ftp, but the
connection wasn't stable enough and it had to wait until he
returned home. The posts that were sent to the list during that
time were saved, but never went out to the list. This past
weekend, they were compiled into pseudo-digests (thanks to woj)
and have been added to the archives for interest.]

In 1996, Jewel, anagrams of Tori's name, and reviews.

In 1998, Tori's simple songs, playing FTCH via the lyric
booklet order, and 6 degrees of Tori.

In 2000, more responses to 'who would you be for 15 mins?'.

In 2001, communicating online, and the (old) health concerns
     with the use of tampons.

  [ =======================>  In RDT History  <======================= ]

On August 29th in 1994, members ask about whether Tori and Eric
have broken up, with one member posting:

I'm not a big gossip-monger, but this type of thing is
definitely relevent to Tori's music career. So... what the
        hell is up?

Also, two articles are posted. One asks Tori would she ever
use other musicians on stage? "Bands are for after the show,"
she says with a suggestive laugh.

In 1998, 6 degrees of Tori, suggestions for a Tori-esque name
for a members puppy, Jaymes Warnock, more stuff about Cornwall,
and 'simplicity' in some Tori songs.

     In 1999, reviews.

To read more about these items, visit the list archives.

can't remember the characters name! OK, let's say Barney ;) 'Barney' on her
underpants didn't get wet, heehee.

Cyndi asked:

at the @forums, that used to be associated with the Dent.
http://www.atforumz.com/ There are heaps of boards there, but the song
lyrics and interps one is towards the end of the Tori section.

Dang my sister for talking about the games on her new computer and getting
me into wasting time playing them again (actually, for that you can blame

I'm phoenyxx there. Straightdope gets into things very similar to urban
legends. incidentally, the site
www.snopes.com is a great UL site.

Zoloft hasn't caused me any problems with insomnia, but I do occasionally
get hit with a massive case of drowsiness- what I've mentioned before,
getting a good night's sleep but still feeling tired, but it doesn't happen
that often so it's hard to tell if it's some weird effect of the zoloft or
something else. It's really aggravating when it happens- I hate waking up
on a Saturday morning feeling like I haven't slept for days and ending up
sleeping away most of the weekend just to feel like I actually *have* gotten
real sleep.
And it's a pain in the ass trying to get a normal sleep pattern going after
that!

That's one thing the zoloft helped with rather quickly though. I only wish
there was a way to see if I still need to be taking it *without* going off
it "cold turkey".

neat dog story :)

later!

West Wing is one of my favorite shows- and it's interesting that a fictional
president is better than the real one. I think it's the third time Sheen
has played the part of a US president- the other two times have been in the
early 70's and early 80's when he played JFK in two movies.

Now *that's* a cool show! I'm wondering what they'll do for the coming
season.

Always fun- I remember working on reasearch papers where I've had to leave
out info I thought was relavent because I had realized that said piece of
info was something I had read someplace but *not* something I had actually
run across in the midst of research and notetaking, and thus couldn't be
used.

Documenting sources is of course important but I had a couple of high school
teachers and one college instructor who seemed to think that an honest
mistake in one's footnotes or bibliography was tantamount to some evil
premeditated plagarism scheme. The English teacher I had during my junior
year of high school (1986-87/AT 24-25) was so hung up on documenting sources
along with a lot of periphreal details that the completed paper seemed to
not really count. Freshman comp. at UT-San Antonio 3 years later was just
as bad, and that instructor wanted *everything* that went into the completed
paper, basically a full accounting of what we had worked on in the process
of writing the paper. So we had to turn in a hand written rough draft and
outline along with the notes we had taken, as well as the actual finished
assignment.

anyway :)

victoria- sorry to hear about how difficult things have been with your

Hey it's weird even when you're sober ;) And now you've got me wanting to
see "Almost Famous" ;)

people saying you look like a particular famous person:

>....Alyson Hannigan.

so are you helping out your friends with your computer skills, or are you
telling stories about what happened at band camp? ;)

about the idea of trying to prosecute individual users of music downloading
sites:

> I think it's a ridiculous and mostly impossible idea. The only thing I can
> figure is they hope to utilize the spyware that comes with the programs. I
> think it's just another useless tactic to scare mp3ers.

I think the whole "anti-piracy" crusade is bullshit. I'm all for making
sure the artists aren't getting ripped off, but more and more it's obvious
that for the music industry execs it's not about that at all, it's about not
having control over how people get music, and because lots of people will or
won't ultimately go out and buy the CD anyway after hearing a song or two
they've dl'd online, the industry execs know that they're going to have to
work harder to get people to buy CD's "sight unseen", so to speak- and if
people aren't buying a CD because the the couple of songs they "previewed"
suck, then the industry is going to have a hell of a time trying to force
crap on the public.

ade- I liked what you said about disabled persons- some of the best help
I've gotten has been from people who weren't sure what to do but still made
the effort. Much better than dealing with the people I call clueless
experts ;)

I used to know a family who played a wonderful dictionary-based game. They
had a huge dictionary, and you flipped it open at random and picked the
most obscure word on that page. You told everybody else the word, and a
definition, and they had to guess if it was the real definition, or if you
were making it up.

It was really a challenge to improvise definitions which actually sounded
like they came from the dictionary.

My favorite word I discovered that way was "gleby," which means "abounding
in clods." It's a type of earth (obviously), but my friends and I used to
use it in social situations. We'd be in CBGBs and the crowd wouldn't be up
to our hipness standards, so we'd remark, "it certainly is gleby in here
tonight."

We were a rather snotty bunch, now that I think of it.

For those that were wondering, I finally went to see a doctor about my
depression. Finally! A doctor that is sane and reasonable. She was very
nice and calm. She didn't take a lot of time to talk to me, but she did ask
enough questions for me to know that she wasn't a pusher kind of doctor.
She suggested therapy first and I told her of my experience with that and
also of my situation with my family and the religion.

I knew I was depressed and anxious. I didn't know I might possibly be
bipolar. She said it's hard to tell but since a lot of my behaviours were
there all along and have only been magnified by recent events, it may be
true. I think it was telling her about banging my hand on the wall that
pushed her to that conclusion. Go figure.:p

Anyway, she did an exam and physically I'm healthy. She cringed when I told
her I'd been on amitrypdawhatever and said the newer antidepressants are
much easier on the body.

She gave me a prescription for Effexor. Has anyone heard of it or been on
it? She said it's one of the milder of the new antidepressants and that in
addition to helping me, it won't cause weigh gain or sexual disfunction.
Yay!

So we'll see. Apparently it may work within 4 days, but it will probably
take longer. And she said that if I am bipolar, it may make too hyper. In
which case I'll have to go back to see her sooner. But here's hoping. Hyper
is better than this anyway.

Thanks to everyone who mailed personally and replied to my posts. I'm still
trying to catch up. As always.

Much love,
Victoria

Started classes last night. Video production is interesting. My first
project was to do a three minute intro tape. It took about an hour a minute
to film doing stop and start (known in vid circles as "in camera editing").
But I got a nice shot of my home and my guinea pig did a nice little chew on
the bars for the camera (makes her look like a dark bugs bunny saying hi).
My hamster, Bunnicula did her trick of coming out to grab a goodie and
taking it back to her cage. And my cat just was very suspicious of the
whole production and only came out to say goodbye at the end.

I had some friends over to watch the Tori CUNY interview with Ann Powers. I
think it was a really great interview (she talks about how 9-11 made
everyone in the US feel how those who have been abused feel all the time,
and sings her special lullaby that she wrote for Tash), but Jeremy had so
many negative comments. "I think Tori is stoned." he said. "I think you're
stoned." I replied. "She's a bit pompous." he said. "umm." I replied. "On
the verge of being pretentious." he continued. "(In my best Simon manner)
She's a goddess. She's entitled." I replied. At the end, he and another
girl just looked at me in confusion. "I don't get it." Mary said. So I
told them to understand that Tori speaks in free association, no internal
editor, and she is really deep. "Ohhh." Mary said. "I don't get it." my
friend said. I gave up.

I have digital photography tonight, then another week of vacation before
school starts in earnest. Maybe I can actually update my web page and post
a story about 9/11. It's about this 60'ish guy who is in the North Tower
and escapes but can't stop thinking about this old black woman he knew that
used to panhandle outside. I don't know if anyone would have interest in
reading it. My therapist said that only the people who were there should
write survivor stories from that day. But I don't know. I don't know if
those people can write about it. I could (had to) because of all the images
that didn't deserve to be in my mind. Images of people in stairways with
firefighters pushing up past them. Images of frightened faces and a black
blizzard in September. Anyhoo, I'll try to work it up for posting. It just
needs a bit of touch up.

Have to go and get ready.
Fairy Blessings,
Bethey
I'm OK when Everything's not OK
cause it's the Fairies Revenge they say
And I have always been a Fairy.

PS. Whoever it was that likes my sig should know that I've used it since I
wrote it back in 1997 and will always use it. But you are free to use it so
long as you don't credit it to anyone but I (as I credit most of it to
Tori).

Hola mes amies!

I'm at college now and it's big and filled with many people. And I'm bored
and everyone's doing homework. Blah.

Call me at 724 738 4204. Email me at my nifty college address, if you
want, at my nifty new college address mca3925@sru.edu . I'm still using
this one, though.

HEATHER! What's your phone number?

That is all. Good day to you.

What sucks is that it (IMHO) is worse than actually being ill because at
least being sick means you have some idea what it is and how to shake it
off- the ongoing "blah" feeling seems to drag on and it's not like you can
take something for it.

thanks for the info behind the snubbing incident. I had forgotten that her
breakup with Eric had happened around that time.

I do agree that people should broaden their horizons where movies are
concerned- I still think some critics let their bias for or against a
particular genre show through in their reviews.

megan- good poem :) I've wondered the same thing about snake cults. I mean
why can't there be puppy or kitten cults? Holding them is much safer :)

but pepsi is still popular in seaports because it comes in handy for
cleaning the paint on large ships ;)

what tori song do I relate to? Hard to say, I feel a connection with many
on them on one level or another. The obvious one is "Silent All These
Years" because I can really relate to supressing one's true self for other
people.

later!

Subject: tori on mtv2

per rock on tv, tori will be on a program called "mtv2 presents: artists to
watch" on mtv2. the half-hour program airs several times this coming
weekend (all times eastern) on mtv2:

sat 8/31 1:30 pm
sat 8/31 8:00 pm
mon 9/2 6:30 pm

and once on mtv:

sun 9/1 6:00 pm

the mtv website is not very clear about what this program is, but it does
confirm that a show with this name, subtitled "women 2 watch", is on at
those air times.

guess we'll just have to tune in and see...thanks to wintervoodoo on the
forum for spotting this!

Subject: Get Out of My Garden IV

The list is slow.

I have dozens of habanero peppers ripe, red, and ready for donating to
members of the list.

I have one for dear Violet, and ones for Beth, Linda, Ade, Succabuss
(sp) Megan, all the other Megans, the nutty Baker, the new subs, Chris,
Brian, e, juan, Jim Mathers, winterlion, Simon, Matt, Koba (wherever he
is), and whoever I forgot. and Jessica Parsons, who for sure is not
here anymore.

I have not knarled the meaning of a garden (or Tori's song) as Venice
said a while ago. I cultivate it. It takes time, education, planning,
and effort to have a good garden. Not words or beliefs, or thoughts or
feelings. I even have a pepper for Jorge and Venice. Burn babies burn.

And for Keith Shapiro (long gone from here but I think he gets feedback)
I have a rotten tomato. I have a sweet red pepper for Bethey, if she
wants it. (oops--i was not supposed to ever mention her name again). A
garden is like life. You reap what you sow.

Go Dubya.....

out.

There has been speculation that she actually survived and escaped from
Russia but those accounts are unverifiable. I think there was a German
woman in the late 80s who claimed to be Anastasia but that was proven to be
a hoax.

welcome back linda :)

Subject: allaccess.com ad

http://www.allaccess.com/ is a community website for the radio industry.
yoheaveho from the forum noted a banner ad for "a sorta fairytale" on the
site today which can be viewed at

http://www2.allaccess.com/images/animate/banners/toriamos.gif

it's a rather large animated gif (257kb), so for those who don't have the
patience to download it, the highlights of the banner ad are that "a sorta
fairytale" will be serviced to modern adult and triple a radio on september
17th, that the song has been added already to several stations (kysr and
kroq in los angeles and k101 in san francisco, though we know that many
other stations are also playing it now), that the album will be released
october 29th, and that the tour will start on november 7th (no information
about where though).

the last frame of the animation says to click the ad to listen to the song.
this is a feature of allaccess.com which provides streams for registered users.

there's a small epic logo in the corner of the ad, so one presumes this
information is (mostly) accurate.
