an interview from WHFS, with one quote:

Tori: I just lean on key ... I didn't know it was on. Maybe
I should have a baby on a keyboard. I'm the most
comfortable when I'm like leaning on a keyboard.

Also, a member finds tori providing backing vocals on Stan
     Ridgway's "Mosquitos" album.

In 1993, continued discussion about suggested songs for Tori to
     cover.

In 1998, a bit of a war brewing over Courtney Love, and
comments about Tori and Beck presenting the 'Best Rap Video'
award at the recent MTV awards.

In 1999, reviews, violence and men and women, and Tiarna's

On September 16th in 1993, a member asks "is it still rumoured
that tori's working with trent reznor?", Neil Gaiman's various
works to date, and opening acts for Tori.

In 1994, The Little Mermaid and SATY, and a transcript of the
     Oct '94 Spin article:

TA: (long pause) A good storyteller has a conversation
with the listener. I'm very direct when I play. A lot of
people don't like emotional directness. They say, "Why
don't you just turn away and sing it and we'll digest it in
our own way." But you came to my show to trust me. when I
sat down on the porch and listened to my grandfather, I
wasn't giving him a fax first on how he should tell the
        story.

In 1995, the list comes back to life with a question about
whether Nishikis are a type of bike, and the duet with Michael
Stipe is supposed to be in 'How to make an American Quilt'.

In 1996, a member asks: "I'm curious what women out there think
of actresses who consciously decide to use their physical
beauty to further a career supposedly based on their acting
skills." Also, "Blue Skies" to appear on the Party of Five
     soundtrack.

In 1997, some to-do about Chris Rock and Fiona Apple and the
MTV awards, people settling into the 'new' list [Thoughts Right
Now], and Sarah McLachlan. Also, Subliminal Thoughts are born.

In 1998, stripping and feminism, six degrees of tori, and Tori

Subject: Tori and Botox shots

Bethany risked life and limb to ask:
>>: do you think tori has had plastic surgery?<<

On the Ann Powers CUNY interview (it was a gift guys, I don't know how or
where you can get it), Tori starts off railing against all the famous women
who refuse to honor the wisdom of age, and try to look 20 well into their
old age. Ann Powers laughed and mentioned Botox treatments and Tori became
very demure and said, "Well, let's not dis Botox." So the sweet Goddess is
allowing someone to shoot botulism toxin into her forehead and that
paralyzes all the nerves in the face that cause those little lines and
wrinkles.

I think that she either has to bite the bullet and start aging
naturally/gracefully, or she needs to give up Goddess status and realize she
is helping the media set impossible standards for women to be considered
"beautiful". Personally, I believe that the wisdom that comes with age can
be considered beautiful. It's nothing to be beautiful at 20, when your skin
is tight and glowing, and gravity has little effect on body shape. For a
woman to feel beautiful at 40, it means having to accept that skin sags and
the glow must come from inside first. Tori could make a stand for it, but
she must be just as insecure as all the others in the biz.

It's sort of like looking at a rose: in bud form, it is perfect with a
promise of further beauty (like a 16 year old girl). But after the bud
opens and is exposed to the elements, it's beauty is a bit harder to find.
The promise of the future no longer plays around the edges; this is the
pinnacle of it's beauty until the petals wither and die. But a full-blown
rose has a softness and a scent that can't be found in the bud. And if you
try to keep the rose in its bud form, it will curl up and die before it has
a chance. Thus I think it is with women who are forever trying to capture
youth and hold on to it. After decades and tens of thousands of dollars
spent in this youth obsession, these women will look back and not find
happiness and harmony. They may just be filled with resentment that they
couldn't enjoy life in their pursuit of eternal youth.

Truth be told, when I heard Tori admit to Botox, I was outraged. What a
stupid thing to do to yourself! But now I accept that it is her life to
waste as she wants. I don't think I've ever heard her say that she is a
Goddess and therefore a role model, so what she does is really none of our
concern.

Any thoughts?
Fairy Blessings,
Bethey

gooooood... *glances at clock..* afternoon, everybody! boy, I
hate sleeping past noon, but I do it to myself.. blah.. I'd be happy if I
didn't REQUIRE sleep. :P anyway, replies I must make! :)

Julie mentioned that the guy she's NOT IN LOVE WITH keeps popping
up in her dreams and she keeps waking up right when they're about to
kiss.. well.. huh! that's interesting.. I've always wondered what the
dreams we have mean.. one thing I'd love to be able to do is hook your
brain up to a device that could record your dreams to videotape.. that
would, to me, be VERY useful if you wanted to remember your dreams.

Bethey described her day on the 11th to us.. very touching,
Bethey.. I especially liked the part with the veterans and their rifle
salutes, and then the 3056 flags.. whew.. powerful..

Lavs, hope that font rebuilding is going smoothly for ya! there's
also http://www.fontfiles.com/ to check out if you haven't already! :)

Little Blue Girl said, in reply to my bit about being oblivious to the
world when you're in love: "yes Im oblivious to the world at this time
since Im in love.. :) and since this doesnt happen to me too much, I
happier than a pig in ... well... poop ;)"
bwahahahah!! I love the way you put it right there! it's so true
too though.. when you're in love, everything seems to SHINE. lol..

LBG then said, of Tori: "remember how silly-cute she was when she first
got out there .. in the LE days with the massive lips and little mascara
she wore? and now she has really bloomed into the GODDESS she is.. :)"
yeah! and I think SOME of that, at the least, is due to the fact
that she's a mother now. that'll do things to you--becoming a mother I
mean.. she looks older.. it's obvious she's not like.. only 30-something
anymore, but she doesn't look like she's not aging gracefully or
ANYTHING. she still looks quite young, but not *YOUNG* and that can
definitely be a good thing.

*cuts and pastes #1710 into email* I have got to keep up more on these
digests. :P

Jessica said that right now, she's not much for commitment.. honey, right
now, you ARE probably a guy's *dream* girl.. start hunting 'em down!! :D

Chris asked: "Has anyone else mentioned the Tori video with the twin
towers in it?"
um.. a *video* showing Tori and then the twin towers?? I haven't
heard of that before.. o_O

Linda gave a very thoughtful post regarding how 9/11 has affected her..
that's very touching, Linda.. and thinking of it THAT way (something
you've seen all your life, etc) really helps me put it back into
perspective. Damn the media and the commercialism of this tragedy, cuz
it's really screwing me up, I think. Making me want to not care about
something that I really SHOULD care about.. grrrrr...

Linda said: "I did not watch tv, or listen to the radio on the 11th. I
could not stand the media circus. It disgusts me."
at least I'm not alone. :P and I'm not singling myself and Linda
out here as people disgusted by the sensationalism of 9/11, mind you. I'm
just saying at least there are people who feel just as sickened by the
media as I do. :D
Linda said, (on a much lighter note.. YAY!): "Cyndi, those animal
and baby pictures (the NBC pics of the year) were so cute! They made me
smile, and I really needed to smile... thanks for sharing 'em."
anytime.. I loved those pictures myself. my aunt forwarded them
to me and she usually forwards stuff I don't want to mess with, but once
in a while, she sends some really good gems.. THOSE are what I pass on.
glad you liked 'em! :)

Bethany asked: "since things have been deader than a doornail around
here, i'd thought i'd ask a question (and hope the tori is goddess
faction doesn't eat my ass for lunch) : do you think tori has had plastic
surgery?"
        I.. don't think she's HAD any--nothing major at least--but.. she
DID say on that Ann Powers thing (I've only read the transcript) that
heck, she just might, someday, get a little bit of botox done. But no, I
don't think she's had anything done yet.. lol hey I have, though! but..
it wasn't exactly for cosmetic reasons--it was a plastic surgeon
stitching my face up from a dogbite so that I wouldn't have three *nasty*
scars.. o_O I think that counts.. ;) lol seriously.. I was like 7.. and
at a friend's house.. and their dog tended to be VERY aggressive.. (he
once bit my brother, too, also in the face, but it wasn't as bad as my
incident.. their excuse for my brother was "there was a female dog
around". (ours) he was the only dog around when he bit me.) and I, being
7 years old and unaware of what aggressive dogs are like, as well as
HEARING IMPAIRED, didn't hear him growling at me when I hugged him, so
what did he do? *chomp* that's what! when my grandfather came to visit
later, my dad says they were talking and he was like "I'd like to go
shoot that dog." (ya know.. kill it before it causes any more trouble)
and my dad said "well, I'm all for it too, but you can't, especially not
on an army post." so.. that crazy mutt got to, I bet, live till he got
old.
Anyway, I've rambled into a long story here.. I don't think Tori
has had any plastic surgery, but from what I've read of what she says,
she's not unwilling to try it if she thinks it'll be kind of like a tune
up. :)
on THAT note, I've got to go and get dressed and stuff. I woke up
at 3 today and it's 4:00 now and I'm still in my pajamas. how pathetic of
me. BLAH! g'night everybody! lol

Subject: RAINN

I was watching my Sessions @ 54 tape of Tori's performance (thank
you Vicki, thank you, thank you!), and while she was speaking about what
RAINN is, I reached over and turned my computer--which I'd just turned
off two minutes ago--back on, and went to the RAINN website and signed up
to try to help raise money, and to try to help my local rape center. I
also asked for a few brochures and wallet card thingies to pass around..
Being that I don't drive around Atlanta very well at ALL, I'm a
teensy bit worried that I mighta gotten myself (at least a little bit)
into something I shouldn't have. Can anybody else who's teamed up to help
contribute to RAINN like I just did, explain what exactly you do, if you
can?? I'd appreciate it. I'll try as much as I can to do what I can if
it's difficult to do and I'll be damned and damned again if I chicken out
of this! Thanks for any help you guys can give me..

Guess who's back, guess who's back....

You can tell I'm still on an Eminem kick. I guess the new album has been
released here now as I heard my neighbour playing it yesterday. At least it
wasn't Limp Bizkit for a change!

In #1708, Succubus Megan wrote:
>Sigh... Guys are scary. I don't understand them and I think they're part
>of this mysterious foreign culture

They are scary. By the same token, women can be scary and be just as, if
not more inscrutable than men. But given time, you'll find that only some
are scary. Going on what you said in the first and second posts you made
about this guy, he's even creeping me out a bit. While his behavior at
first was a little unusual, he really sounds weird later on. Keep an eye on
him until you get to know him better.

In #1710, we found out what Jessica wants:
>I think the main things were intelligence (always always #1), beautiful
>eyes, at least as tall as me and an interesting quality of "he has to know
>when to act his age and has to know when to act half his age."

That sounds like me! But I'm nearly old enough to be your father as well so
if I'm acting half my age, then I'm only a little bit younger than you.
Intelligence is always the attribute that does it for me. Like there's this
divorcee at work chasing my arse, who the first time I saw her I just
wanted to breed with her. It's not necessarily a sex thing, but more a
primal urge. Sure she's attractive and a good person, but she just doesn't
do it for me on a mental level.

Linda wrote:
>security might make people feel safer, but it doesn't ensure that nothing
>will happen. I guess the most obvious way to fight "terrorism" is to
>prevent the people from feeling "terrified",

But doesn't the fact there is so much security mean that people are
terrified? Having travelled to the US at the end of last September and
again last month, I can't help but think the terrorists have won. They
achieved what they set out to do, which was to terrorize people, not only
in the US but the world over. But nowhere is this terror more apparent than
in the US. That is perfectly understandable.

Personally, I'd be more worried about the seeming ineffectiveness of
airport security. I've flown on 7 flights originating in the US post 9-11
and two flights originating here. Only once was I singled out for special
attention in the US, twice an extra cursory inspection and the rest of the
time I walked straight through security. While you could say I'm a veteran
of security checks after the Olympics in 2000, I got more attention from
that in my own country. You could drive a car through the holes in airport
security here, but you could drive a bus through security in the US. That
was underlined seeing those journalists go through security with box
cutters last week.

I also think the saturation coverage of September 11 that was on all the
news stations from when I arrived there, coupled with talk about war with
Iraq, is only increasing the level of terror among the greater populace. If
the US does go to war with the US, terrorist groups will only have more
impetus to target the US. Sure, something needs to be done about Saddam,
but invading or even eliminating him is only going to destabilize the
Middle East even further. Sometimes it's better the devil you know (I can't
help but think of the South Park movie, where the Satan is Saddam's bitch),
in that he may be a despot, but he's a known quantity. He may hate the US,
but he's not insane and is unlikely to do anything stupid. He's got enough
trouble keeping his own country under control.

On a different note:
>Shit. Does this mean that we can't sleep with each other anymore?? ;-)

We can always have the Dickens' Cider, I just won't marry you!

>It must have been really disappointing that you got hurt during your vacation

It does tend to put a downer on things. I just wanted to go home after two
weeks. While everyone else was off doing fun things, I was sitting on my
arse, thinking. At times like that, it's hard to have anything but negative
thoughts. Couple that with being medicated to the point of being a zombie,
you could say I didn't really enjoy it. But I still did manage to have some
good times in there.

>I hate it when I hear my nice guy friends saying that they'd do better
>with the ladies if they were assholes and didn't treat them well. Not true at
>all... the right girl will appreciate you for your sweetness.

I'd be more worried by why guys feel the need to say this in the first
place. There is a lot of truth to the expression "nice guys always come
last". But on the bright side, nice guys always come last! Ugh, you said
the "s" word. I've got no chance then.

Bethany posed the question:
>do you think tori has had plastic surgery?

I might comment if I had a clue which bit you're referring to, but
otherwise I haven't noticed anything.

When you begin to live again
Feel free to drop on by
But until then avoid the men
The sex and drugs and lies

Corruption lies in a disguise
Of handsome eyes and hands
So never seek to get the prize
The Lord will understand

The choice to live will always give
The devil chance to win
So you instead seek to believe
That everything's a sin

A sad excuse for a bad choice
To never step outside
You use your prayers to stop your voice
to stay inside and hide

The devil can seduce a man
Well, that is what you say
But he is just a poor excuse
To throw your life away

How Now, Brown Cow?

...more like downdates actually.

ticketmaster has removed both the columbus (nov. 23) and chicago (nov. 27)
listings from their database <url:
http://www.ticketmaster.com/artist/749136/ >. chicagoi had been removed
last week while columbus just disappeared today.

i have no idea why either listing was removed. while it could mean a venue
change or something else logistic along those lines, i'd guess the most
likely reason is that the shows were added to their database earlier than
they should have been.

I find most people fairly mysterious actually - although the only person
I'm really scared of is... myself... *sigh*
I've been betrayed, lied to, and taken advantage of by many many people for
many reasons. I've finally found a group of people I can trust - in the
mundane world - and I'm finally home.

Maybe that's it... who knows.
I do feel closer to women for some reason... dunno why.

and to continue (and kinda invert) the thread of what I look for in...
a woman:
- Intelligence
- Curiousity
- Fire *g*... Umm free will in the sense of not being easily swayed?
something like that anyways....
- definitely beautiful eyes... *g*. (Agree w/Jessica Parsons here :)
- playful!
-... wisdom... so many people can't see... *sigh*
in a man? same things really. Although I'm not usually looking for a man *g*
*grin* I think I'd make a lousy umm mate-type these days but I'm getting
better at the friendthing. Who knows. I've never been anyone's "boyfriend"
but there's always a chance *silly grin*

and all I try to be is an honourable person. One to trust - one who's
-there-. Someday someone will want me to be there for them but now I know
it's appreciated it's what I do. Every time a friend falls in love, gets
their life another step true, or smiles more often I feel proud for knowing
them. (although I'll admit to feeling proud if I had anything to do with
it... oopsie I'm a bit of a meddler sometimes :) reminds me I've got a
handfasting to go to this weekend of two really good friends... *grin*
I don't care about the "bad guys get all the luck" thing. I'd rather not
saddle anyone down with a beast so I try not to be a Beast....
(no matter how much I sometimes resemble him)

and to Cyndi S. Crawford:
Neat poem :)
umm there's probably better complements but umm not thinking clearly...

Some friends & I are thinking of doing a computer video to "Winter" but we're
not really solid yet but it's lotsa fun and ummm something.

the 2001/09/11 tragedy was so for many people and so was 2000/09/10 but not so
obvious... not at home, not where we can see. and not as loud.
umm I'm gonna stay out of memories other than saying that Cretien (our PM :)
is being pretty brave *yay*. Very strange in a Canadian PM but who knows.
The best way to stop this from happening is to stop the "why".
the best way to preserve memory is to honour and remember - and remember that
most (all probably) of the people who died had nothing to do with "why".
that's all from me for now.
honour and love those around and those who aren't. live strong and one's own
people will be strong - and proud. It's a goodness....

Bethany Rusen asks about:
(car commercial? BLASPHEMY!!!! grrr)
> and one other thing: maybe someone can help me with this: there's this car
> commercial on right now, and there's a sort of grrl rock band-type song
> playing (which is what made me think of Sleater-Kinney), and the lyrics go
> "I love myself today, not like yesterday". anyone know if this is an actual
> band or just something written for the commerical?

Bif Naked!!!!!!
She rocks. Stupid advertisers - that song's making FUN of people like them.
Especially the video *grin*

Bif Naked does a whole buncha music including this one on the Buffy soundtrack
(for those who pay attention) I think called "The Lucky Ones" or something.
Her music tends to be of the strong-and-proud-although-didn't-usetabe type.
"Twitch" is a lot off-kilter but makes me giggle 'cause saying that can get
one of my friends to grin in the -oddest- way... umm :)

Anyhooo
G'day, eh? :)

Anyway, I've been wondering about that since SLG came
out (not in the album book pictures, but around the
time that she was touring). And now the Scarlet's
Walk pictures-- man, she looks younger than she did
five years ago.

Maybe it's just new makeup, or the fact that she's
wearing her hair very straight these days. Or maybe
she's lost weight (which I think she most definitely
has). Who knows. Right???

Subject: My day-so far.

9/16/02
7:17 pm

I'll tell you all about my day today. I like having you all as somewhat of
my journal that gets responds.

Well, I went to school and checked my E-mail for a few minutes, then the
bell rang. I'm a 15-year-old sophomore (10th grader) by the way. I went to
my science class...we just watched some more of Stand And Deliver...a movie
about a math teacher trying to motivate a bunch of students that are
stereotyped because of their race (hispanic). Then I wrote a short
essay...it's really strange...in my special education classes I'm looked at
as a "brain" and in my regular education classes I'm looked at as an
"idiot". I'm learning disabled. I do not have down syndrome, I just have
something in my brain that doesn't process as well as others...I have a
problem following directions and understanding things sometimes...a lot of
times it has to do with interest...am I interested in this or not.
Sometimes even when I am interested in something it's hard to comprehend.
Anyways, after science I went to pre-algebra where I just listened to some
Bjork music and did my work. I feel that math is always gonna be hard for
me. When it gets to the harder stuff I'll pay attention and take more
notes...but since it's my second year taking this class I don't think I
really have to pay attention to the stuff I already understand. My social
studies class is one of the easiest classes in the world (it's my only
special education class). I'm okay with started easy though. I know that
next year I'll probably have to challenge myself better in social studies.
Then I got to Espanol clase (Spanish class). I'm doing okay in that
class...except for the fact that I made a friend named, Jamie that doesn't
really pay much attention to me...maybe it's because we don't know each
other that well. Then I go to lunch and sit with Jamie and her friends...I
enjoy hearing their conversations and getting in them, but I hardly ever get
in them because of my kind of "out of the circle" feeling. Plus, I don't
like eating outside...I had to throw away my sandwhich because those damn
bees were eating it when I put it down. Bees get on my fuckin' nerves! I
wanna eat inside but Jamie and her friends don't want to and I want to sit
with them. Then I go to guided study, anxious to see my new crush! I sound
like such a bimbo when I say that...but it's true...I have a new crush...as
opposed to my "I'm Not In Love" dude (if you read what I said about him in a
message I posted on here). His name is Lonell and he's very nice. He's
tall, black, and he looks like one of those typical rapper-guy-bling-bling
dudes, but he isn't. He's very sweet and attractive. He can be quite lazy
sometimes and hard to talk to when he sleeps in class...but that's
understandable because he only gets 3 hours of sleep thanks to his other
family members. He also only eats 1 meal a day...I feel bad for him...Gosh,
I am so blessed and grateful that I have it so good...in comparson to
others. Then I go to beginning chef and make caramel popcorn (yummy gooda).
Although again, directions can be hard for me...even making the simplest
things. I go late to popular literature class because of the clean-up I
have to do for the caramel popcorn...plus I gotta eat it. Then I go to the
class which I think sometimes I feel as though I'm in elementary school
again...not about the work at all...the work is at my grade level, but some
of the games we play and ideas this teacher has (are very quirky and
kiddish)...somethings I would play in elementary school. Then I see some
friends I miss so much (Matt and Maria) both of them keep holding back on my
plans I'm wanting to make with them. They aren't trying to avoid me but I
don't know when I'll ever see them. :(

I get home and watch stuff on my brand new DVD and play Nintendo 64 with my
brother. After my brother and I discuss Tori's new album in deep interest
and anticipation. I'm listening to "Talula" by Tori Amos right now. I've
been listening to Boys For Pele while writing this. I listened to "Mr.
Zebra", "Professional Widow", "Caught A Lite Sneeze", "Little Amsterdam",
"Hey Jupiter", and "Talula" while I was typing this and other things...just
for your random curious information...lol

Epic Records Takes Steps to Seal Its Newest Music
By CHRIS NELSON

The Epic Records Group, a unit of Sony Music, is approaching the sticky
problem of prerelease music's being traded online with an even stickier
solution.

Writers receiving review copies of two soon-to-be-released albums — Tori
Amos's "Scarlet's Walk" and Pearl Jam's "Riot Act" — are finding the CD's
already inside Sony Walkman players that have been glued shut. Headphones
are also glued into the players, to prevent connecting the Walkman to a
recording device.

By locking up the discs, Epic hopes to keep writers from converting the
music to MP3's that can then be traded over the Net. But even a "glueman"
player is unlikely to deter a diehard critic.

"I'm a pretty big Pearl Jam fan," said Bart Blasengame, a staff writer at
Details magazine who was sent one of the contraptions with "Riot Act"
inside. "I brought this discman home with me, and I found a way you could
go in the back of the CD and, like, pop it open. So I got the actual disc out."

Mr. Blasengame said he had no intention of making MP3's . "At the same
time, if I want to give it a proper review, I'm going to listen to it how I
want to listen to it — and in my stereo is where it sounds best," he said.

For several years, prerelease music has turned up online before it reaches
stores, distributed without permission by journalists, radio employees,
record company employees or other sources. This July, for example, a
six-song sampler from Ms. Amos's upcoming album was shipped to writers the
old-fashioned way. The songs soon appeared on file-sharing services like WinMX.

The Recording Industry Association of America blames Internet music-sharing
for declines in CD sales, though proponents of MP3 trading dispute the
group's arguments.

A Sony spokeswoman confirmed that the glued players were being used to
combat piracy, but would not talk about their effectiveness or responses
from writers.

This is not the first time prerelease music has received the glue
treatment. Gil Kaufman, a freelance journalist in Cincinnati, said he owns
a prerelease copy of Radiohead's 1997 album "OK Computer" that is glued
into an Aiwa player — an Aiwa analog cassette deck. That makes MP3
conversions a bit more difficult.
