Making up a missed day...
On September 14th in 1992, members discuss Tori and the MTV awards.
In 1994, Tori ASCII art, interps on a multitude of songs, Tori
as a goddess (and Tori and pentagrams), and an Internet
interview is posted.
In 1995, the first digest in over a month is sent out (with all
of two messages). It is kicked off with a comment from Chris:
"Lets see how much damage this does".
In 1996, an article titled "healing through song" is posted.
About "Somewhere Over the Rainbow":
"I'm questioning that whole sentiment, the idea that the
dreams you dare to dream really do come true. They might
come true, but you might have some scars and wounds you take
with you that they don't tell you. The rainbow isn't
attained without chasing your demons and your pain," says
Amos.
In 2000, hair.
[ =======================> In RDT History <======================= ]
On September 17th in 1992, members were talking about future
tour dates.
In 1993, Neil Gaiman.
In 1994, a member offers their original YKTR vinyl for $75.
In 1996, cat names, some Tori/Patti Smith connections,
responses to the physical beauty of actresses question, and
gender politics.
In 1998, dreams, why are people dissing that Tori presented a
rap award?, names for a piano, and Francesa Lia Block.
In 2001, more reactions to Sept. 11.
[ =======================> In RDT History <======================= ]
On September 18th in 1994, it's an interp-a-thon, and a
transcript of Tori's Prodigy chat. Tori's response to a
question about being called a super-feminist:
I don't think it's about choosing a camp anymore..that's
so...1976. But there are two camps-- I'm going to be
responsible for myself, or I'm not going to be responsible
for myself. No gender, no sex. It's like we're not victims;
get off the cross we need the wood. I ll tell you, I see a
lot more guys right now who are shaking in their boots.
It's kind of tragic, because I don't know if anybody's
making a whole lot of sense to the guys right how. The girls
get mad at them because they don't know how to be tender and
independent at the same time.....there's confusion in that
camp. It's not about them controlling us, they don't know
how to control themselves.
In 1995, people relieved the list is back (it had a meltdown
for a while), and what happened to the list shirts?
In 1998, havannas are cigars, and strippers.
In 1999, reactions to TVAB, and meet and greets.
[ =======================> In RDT History <======================= ]
On September 19th in 1994, the Sweet Dreams appreciation
society, more information about the Hans Christian Anderson
version of "the Little Mermaid", and continuing the
interp-a-thon.
In 1995, the list t-shirts.
In 1996, a member ponders what Tori songs would go with what
Star Wars character.
In 1998, feminism and stripping, reviews, Pretty Hate Machine,
rap, and a parody of Jackie's Strength about Hillary Clinton.
A sample:
a rodham till inauguration day
sluts ran out
the police came
said bubba laid them on the front lawn
i prey for hillie's strength
In 1999, meet & greets, beauty pagents, and hurricane Floyd.
In 2000, ballads.
In 2001, more reactions to the SLG album, and a discussion
about different ways people have of dealing with grief.
[ =======================> In RDT History <======================= ]
On September 20th in 1993, members discuss Neil Gaiman, Kate
Bush, Tori doing Halloween songs would be cool, is it 'wobble'
or 'wopple' board, some members comment that they'd prefer Tori
to do more of her own songs and not another cover, a member
mentions Tori's co-writing credit on Al Stewarts' "Charlotte
Corday", and an article about George Porter, Jr. (Subject: Tori
Stuff). On his work with Tori:
"She's got a different approach to recording," Porter
said. "It's interesting; she doesn't like recording with
other musicians because that way they'll influence what she
plays. She does all the piano and vocals by herself first;
then we overdub."
In 1994, an article is posted about bootlegs and terrorism
(mentioning Tori), a member reports that there is a Tori
article in The Face (no. 73, Oct 94) magazine, and more interps
of the mermaid reference (among other things).
In 1998, reviews, Raspberry Swirl (video and the 'love song for
friend' angle), and ripping misguided articles to shreds.
In 2001, discussion continues on the potential aftermath of the
Sept 11 attacks, and more comments on the SLG album.

Subject: birthdays and Sister Janet MIDI's and lotsa funny smelling stuff.
let's kick this one off with a happy belated birthday to Doug S.
:D happy birthday Doug! :) okay. I'm behind two digests. AGAIN. slap me.
okay. on with the replieeeeeeees... at FIVE IN THE BLOODY
MORNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I've got this.. Sister Janet MIDI.. very
kewl stufffff.. very very very. me like, me like, me likey likey.
anyway..
*cuts and pastes #1711 and #1712 back to back.. and nods head side to
side to this doggoned MIDI of Sister Janet.. dum da da dummmm.. da da da
dum da da dummmmm..*
Okay the retro for the 15th quoted a Tori interview.. "Tori: I just lean
on key ... I didn't know it was on. Maybe I should have a baby on a
keyboard. I'm the most comfortable when I'm like leaning on a keyboard."
makes me wonder if Tori had a little toy tag-along keyboard of
sorts when she was at the hospital having Tash.. makes ya think, huh? o_O
The retro then said: "In 1993, continued discussion about suggested songs
for Tori to cover."
hey can we revive that??? :D pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase???? :D
The retro then mentioned Tori's appearance on the '98 VMAs.. and that
reminded me.. a good five months ago I was beating myself upside the head
trying to remember if that was, indeed, her, that I'd seen.. then I went
to thedent.com and found pics.. very funny stuff indeed! sure wish I'd
taped that! :P
then the retro mentioned body hair.. um.. speaking of body hair.. what in
the world is the point of pubic hair???
Brian's still on an Eminem kick.. like he said.. :D I was at
www.launch.com watching music videos on there.. and I saw the video for
his song "White America".. doesn't show HIM doing anything (basically
looked like a lot of toons and paper doll drawings and stuff.. you have
to see it to get what I mean--lots of puppetry instead of him really
being in it).. but anyway.. it's.. wow. actually almost very disturbing..
o_O you really have to see it to know what I mean.
Brian said in reply to one of the Beths' question about plastic surgery:
"I might comment if I had a clue which bit you're referring to, but
otherwise I haven't noticed anything."
um. I'm thinking she's looking at Tori's face and wondering,
dear. ;)
our favorite succubus Barbie said: "StalkerBoy has a girlfriend that he
never mentioned while flirting with me. ...Gee, I wonder why?"
cuz he's either about to break up with her, or he's a wandering
type! :P loved your poem there btw. :)
Woj, as always, THANK YOU for the Tori news! what would we do
without ya? I'd hate to find out! lol..
Winterlion enjoyed my little Tori songs poem thingy.. thanks! :D
Julie said: "Geez, I'm so obsessive and cumpulsive...lol"
aren't we all? :D seriously. I sort my gobstoppers by color and
if there's something that I'm eating that is of the same color, I eat
them in pairs of two. I'm a FREAK. :D
John said: "Patti Smith obviously makes *no* effort to hide her age, and
that only adds to her appeal and her power."
true, true.. however, some women (hopefully not Tori) just don't
think they can age gracefully, so you know what they do? they slam a wad
of bills on the doctor's desk and say "FIX ME UP!" and.. well.. I don't
like the idea of that, personally.. that the world is so superficial that
women AND MEN are feeling constant pressure to have to keep tuning
themselves up and trying to stay young looking.. blah. superficiality
sucksssssssssssssss the big one. :P
Julie asked: "Hey, are you Cyndi Crawford, the model? lol"
no.. I was about 5 when the model got famous.. I'm the REAL Cyndi
Crawford tho. ;) nothin' on THIS body is airbrushed or tucked or nipped
or any of that! :D hell yeah!
Jess said: "...besides, botulism is the greatest word in the english
language."
yeah.. it just.. bounces out of the mouth so nicely! I like it
too. lol..
Chris said: "Anyway...Caught a light sneeze has the towers in it. A
faint, distant shot of manhattan...or am I drunk again?"
*SMACKS HEAD!!!* I *KNEW* IT! I KNEW THAT WAS WHAT YOU WERE
TALKING ABOUT!! I HAD THE VERY SHOT OF THAT EXACTLY IN MY HEAD! ARGH!
okay.. caps off.. *falls over*..
Megan, love your Descartes poem.. very interesting.. lol.. hey if we ate
people.. would men's penises replace the almighty hot dog? o_O and would
their testicles replace the everlasting meatball?? *grin* rofl..
okay.. on that sick and twisted note, it's off to bed I go.. erm.. after
listening to this Sister Janet MIDI a couple more times.. :D

The CD's about America -- it's a story that's also a journey,
that begins
in LA and crosses the country, slowly heading east.
America's in there, and specific places and things, Native
American history and pornography and a girl on a plane who'll
never get to New York, and Oliver Stone and Andrew Jackson and
madness and a lot more. Not to mention a girl called Scarlet who
may be the land and may be a person and may be a trail of blood.

Subject: Transfer me a botox shot on a body language dictionary
Cyndi Supermodel asked:
>>do you ever take transfer paper and print up a picture of Tori
(maybe with added text and whatnot) and then iron it to a shirt for a
concert etc?? <<
I did this twice. I took the 94 Spin cover (Tori with lots of red lip-gloss
and little else) and had it made into matching shirts for my best friend and
I for Christmas (back in the days when only transfer shops could afford the
scanner technology to make iron-on's). The very next year, I had Tori's ad
for the NYC Concert for RAINN scanned onto a couple of t-shirts and made a
present of that and tickets to the concert (third row from the back wall,
center nosebleed section) to my friend and we wore them to the concert. I
still have both shirts, tho' obviously old and worn, they still bring back
great memories. So go for it, especially since it's so easy nowadays. Oh,
and for my 35th birthday ('96) my friend captured all sorts of internet Tori
images (like the Dent logo) and made a collage on a shirt for me. I still
have and wear that also.
Jess said:
>>beth, she didn't endorse using botox it sounds like. she just said "don't
dis it." i can say don't dis on crackwhores but that doesn't mean i am
one.<<
Did you read the transcript or did you see the show? On the show, the body
language is clear that she has. Later on, near the end, the botox mention
is again characterized by body language that says she does use it. Several
friends and I watched it and all agree that she meant she used it. Body
language says so much more than words ever will. If you did see it, watch
it again and I'm sure that you will agree.
One of my photos made page 3 of the local, weekly paper. It's quite large
(3 columns) and pretty much the way I cropped and sent it to the paper.
Kinda neat seeing my byline on something that is not written (although they
used my caption as I wrote it). I have so many newspaper clippings at this
point, I need a separate scrapbook for them all. Letters to the editor,
feature articles (like one on a class I taught), a Philly feature on
Toriphiles, and now pictures (it's the second of my pics printed, but the
first with my credit). If only I could figure out a way to get paid for
publishing, I'd have it made. *sigh*
I've been really sick this week, a mild case of shingles. I hear it can be
a lot worse, but it's bad enough thank you. I even have blisters under my
eyelids, and my skin is so sensitive, the pressure of the keyboard feels
like little needles sticking in my arms and fingers. I guess my stress
level has been more than I thought.
I'm gonna go.
Fairy Blessings,
Bethey
I'm OK when Everything's not OK
cause it's the Fairies Revenge they say
And I have always been a Fairy.

Tori Amos Plans North American 'Walk'
Tori Amos will support her upcoming Epic Records debut, "Scarlet's Walk"
with a North American tour kicking off Nov. 7 in Tampa, Fla. Unlike Amos'
last trek, which found her returning to solo piano/keyboard performance,
she'll be joined on the 28-date run by longtime collaborators Jon Evans
(bass) and Matt Chamberlain (drums/percussion). Singer/songwriter Howie
Day, an Epic labelmate, will open all of the shows.
The tour will last until nearly the end of the year, closing with a Dec. 21
performance at San Francisco's Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. At deadline,
ticket sale information was available for only one date on the tour, a Nov.
17 visit to Providence, R.I.'s Performing Arts Center. That show will go on
sale Sept. 28 via Ticketmaster.
As previously reported, "Scarlet's Walk" is due Oct. 29, and is led by the
single "A Sorta Fairytale." Amos' official Web site has a link to an
Epic/SoapCity.com sweepstakes where fans can listen to the track while
entering to win a copy of the album, a signed photo of Amos, and a Sony CD
Walkman. A commercial seven-inch vinyl single is scheduled for an Oct. 8
release.
Described as "a sonic novel in which each song represents a specific stop
on the way across America," the album centers around the female character
Scarlet who travels the country "in search of answers, in search of
herself." The album was produced by Amos and recorded in Cornwall, England.
The enhanced disc will feature a CD-ROM element that will allow users to
access "Scarlet's Web," an exclusive section of Amos' Web site that will
offer additional songs, live footage from her tour, and behind-the-scenes
video content. And while the current contents of toriamos.com feature only
news, a message board, and mailing list sign-up, a newly designed
feature-filled site is due to launch early next month.
"Scarlet's Walk" is the follow-up to Amos' final Atlantic album, "Strange
Little Girls," which debuted at No. 4 on The Billboard 200 and No. 3 on
Billboard's Top Internet Albums chart. The album -- which featured
interpretations of songs by Lou Reed, Depeche Mode, Eminem, and others --
has sold 361,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.

'Got my sealed-up CD player with Scarlett's Walk on it yesterday. Looks like
the Martian boys used a combination of glue and some kind of super-hot
something or other to make it the single most effectively sealed CD player
there has ever been. Great pair of headphones though. Various e-mails from
people have arrived pointing out that I could dismantle the headphones and
run the wires into a computer or something, leaving me shaking my head and
going "but why would I want to do that?"
'Got home very late from LA last night, and sat in the small hours of the
morning, listening to it three or four times over. It's wonderful hearing
tracks I've not heard except in rough form months ago -- Don't Make Me Come
to Vegas and Virginia. Vegas has immediately become my New Favourite Track.
'There's a strangeness to it in places, as the versions on the previous CD I
have are pre-strings, so I'm used to Gold Dust as a really sparse, empty
song, just piano and voice, and the strings keep surprising me. I wonder if
it's like that for people who read early drafts of my stuff.'

that's pretty damn interesting.

hi all!
last night in my writing group i met another toriphile (i was wearing my
"strange little toriphile" shirt and a girl asked about it and said "i LOVE
tori!"). yay! meeting other tori lovers just makes me so happy... which is
why i love this list, of course! and y'all are a bunch of crazy, wonderful,
loveable weirdos! heeeeee!
anywho... replies...
cyndi talked about plastic surgery due to a doggie bite. my aunt had the
same thing done. when she was a kid, her dog took a chunk out of her lip,
so they took some skin from other areas and patched it up. i think she had
some other things done, but i doubt she had any surgery for cosmetic
reasons. plus, she's absolutely gorgeous (for a woman in her early 40s), so
she doesn't need any. i also got bitten by a dog when i was barely 14(well,
twice, the other was a nip on the arm), and it left a scar on my cheek.
well, actually, i've had a scar on my cheek since i was 3 (some kid
scratched me!) and the dog bit the scar so it kind of changed shape. i
didn't need surgery, but the dog's owner freaked out and was incredibly nice
to me. my cousin also got bitten by a big dog by her eye... i guess we
conway women are prone to doggie fangs. ah well...
eh... that's all i really feel compelled to reply to now...
winterlion, you rock! *hugs*

Subject: Yesterday and Today
9/18/02
9:34 pm
YESTERDAY:
Yesterday I didn't have school. I had an appointment with my physchiatrist
though. I have OCD and that's why I go there. I take Prozac. A lot of
people think I'm really mental because I take Prozac, but I'm not
crazy...trust me. Anyways, I really like my new physchiatrist, that was my
first meeting with my brand new one. She's really nice and cool. She's in
her 30's and she's a tall blonde. Anyways, I told her a lot of my problems
and some stories about my life. I think it's gonna be great seeing her.
TODAY:
Today in my earth science class I found out I was getting a D...that blew my
mind...I had no idea I was getting such a bad grade...I thought I was gonna
be the A+ student in that class since it was a pretty simple class. The
thing that brought my grade down was not being there a few days (I was ill
on those days). Later on today I thought about when I came back and I asked
my teacher if I missed any assignments and he said, "No." So, I'm
definitely gonna tell him that...see, it's not my fault! In pre-algebra
this bitch that sits behind me said, "I guess Julie's not wearing her
headphones today." in a really sarcastic voice...I didn't understand what
that dumbass comment meant so I just turned around and minded my business.
Then I put my headphones on and she said, "Ms. Janke, tell her to take her
headphones off." And then I did when the teacher told me to. Why the hell
would the bitch care if I had headphones on...she's just tryin' to piss me
off. In my Spanish 1A class we had a new seating arrangement...that sucked,
I want to continue to sit next to Jamie. Jamie wasn't even there that day.
At the end of class, I went to lunch and ate by myself...inside. In study
hall I went to my speech-n-language teacher's office to work on some school
work-homework. She told me that the teacher's-principal is going to be
handed out a school newsletter about a rape that happened 2 days ago at West
High School (my high school). I was so scared when I heard that. I mean, I
wasn't surprised...and I heard about it happening a while ago also, but it
really scares me. I think the guy's in jail now...I hope so...I think so,
I'm pretty positive. That kind of thing truly terrifies me. In beginning
chef class we had a test. The teacher is really strict, she said that she
would give the test a 0 if we got out of our seats during the entire hour,
including giving the test to her. She said, "I'll pick it up! Don't get up
and give it to me!" She's very strange. Anyways, I had to make a note to
myself in my head not to get up. It's kind of natural to do that
though...give her the test. Most teacher's like that. Anyways, a guy in my
class got up and she yelled at him, but I don't think she gave him a 0
because I think she was just threatening to, but I don't think she
did...that would be ridiculous.
Later on after school I played Nintendo 64 (Zelda Ocarina Of Time) with my
brother...we're really frustrated about Bongo Bongo, one of the really tough
monsters-or whatever you wanna call it. I really love hanging out with my
bro...he's great!
I'm starting to worry if one of my best guy friends is starting to be
sexually attracted to me...I don't know how I'd deal with that and I hope he
was just jokin' around when he makes certain comments to me. I wanna stay
FRIENDS with him forever! Nothing more, nothing less.

Subject: fucktards
Hola,
Lousy ass fucktards. I hate them all. I should be a lesbian and hiss at
all guys and then beat them over the head with large boards. Fuckers.
Pathetic manipulative fuckers.
...Or more specifically, ONE pathetic manipulative fucker. Stalkerboy.
Stalkerboy with a girlfriend he didn't bother mentioning to me.
I called him and asked him about his girlfriend, Crystal, who he never
mentioned to me and I only found out about from a mutual friend. The
conversation was as follows:
Me: Hello, Alex. An odd thing happened. I met the roommate of the girl
you keep on claiming to visit, Nikki, and she says that you aren't at
Slippery Rock to visit her, but your girlfriend. Crystal. Who you never
mentioned to me while flirting.
Alex: Um...Well...Sorry.
Me: Lying isn't just saying things that aren't true. There's also lying by
omission, which is what you did to me.
Alex: Um...Well...Sorry.
Me: If I were Crystal and my boyfriend was calling other girls 'pretty' and
saying that he liked them, I'd be pretty mad right now.
Alex: Um... We're having a rocky time in our relationship. Sorry.
Me: I don't appreciate being lied to. I'm going to go watch Animal House
right now with my roommate. Goodbye.
*click*
Lousy ass fucker. He sent me an email immediately afterwards apologizing
even more and, since I'm the woman scorned here, I'm going to be a bitch
and post it for you all to see, privacy be damned.
<< Begin StalkerBoy Email >>
Subject: Re: Moo Moo (Translation: I'm sorry)
I could end this at the subject line, but I have more to say. I'm sorry
about not telling you about Crystal. I don't know, I guess I was scared
when we met that if I told you then you wouldn't want to talk to me or
something. Anyway, I'm really, really sorry and I don't want you to hate
me, because that would tend to really suck. I hope we can still be friends.
Alex
<< End Email >>
It took me two days of procrastination before I replied with the following.
Once again with the words "privacy", "be", and "damned". I don't fucking
care how many netiquette rules I'm breaking. Bite me. Asswipes. All the
world is made of up asswipes who get off on lying to the naive and
trusting. Mutherfuckers. I hate and loathe all players. And myself.
Because I'm a pussy who lets them play me like a chessboard. Fuckers.
Anyway, on with my reply.
<< Begin Reply Email >>
Alex,
That's a poor excuse. Why would anyone not want to talk to someone if they
have a girlfriend? I don't judge people on their relationship status. I
know of no one who does. But whatever. Just don't lie to me again. I have
this strange tendency to trust people, which often gets me into unfortunate
situations. It's quite sad. And then I feel naive and stupid for assuming
the best in people when I could have so easily been skeptical and
disbelieving and kept myself from getting into the unfortunate situation in
the first place. It's a choice between being naive and believing lies vs.
being skeptical and never trusting anyone. And right now I'm partial to
the first choice, though as days go by I'm rapidly slipping towards the
second. Sucks ass, doesn't it, that some people take advantage of the fact
that I like to trust people. I like to believe that people are being
honest with me. And I hate it when my beliefs are proved to be incorrect.
In essence, do not lie to me again in any way and avoid flirting while you
have a girlfriend, rocky relationship or not. If I were Crystal right now
I'd so be going for the throat. Be honest. That way we can still be
friends and act dumb together. Lie to me again, however, and I have no
idea what I'll do, besides become hard ass bitch and end up having severe
trust issues with guys. I'm trying to avoid that. So don't play me and
don't fuck with my emotions. That's my condition.
Honesty is an extremely important thing, but so is the ability to
understand that people fuck up sometimes. I try my best to practice both
virtues. And so should you.
Megan
<< End Reply Email >>
So I need to ask you all a very important question, and I want you to be
honest with me now and spare not my already mutilated feelings:
Am I being a pussy?
Be honest now. Am I being a pussy for offering to forgive him in that
email? Am I just opening myself up for my emotional mutilation? Should I
just go find a nice hard board and beat him over the head with it? Because
that's sounding real nice right about now.
Fucktards. All the world is made of fucktards. Someone please castrate
them so I can recognize them by their high-pitched voices and run quickly
away. I hate everybody. Except chicks and gay guys. And even those
people are self-centered assholes, too, looking to get the most for
themselves, despite how badly they trample over the meek and pussyish.
God I hate the world.
I'm such a pussy.
Either donate me a spine or shoot me in the head.
I can't believe I forgave him.
How Now, Brown Cow?
