Well, after going away for Thanksgiving, I'm behind on a couple digests, but
I'll catch up eventually. There's a week and a half of classes left, then a
couple study days before FINALS!!!!!!! Eeeeeeeeee!!!!!! Oh well.

Anyway, today I got really envious of all the people who got to go to Tori
concerts this year and meet Tori and get Tori hugs, etc. So I came up with
a PLAN. I'm going to write and publish an amazing novel that will get me up
on the bestsellers list, and I can move to Cornwall on the royalties. I'll
move next door to Tori, and I'll invite her over for tea all the time,
babysit Tash, become really good friends with her, etc. And of course, I'll
invite all of you over so we can party with Tori! *sigh* In my wildest
dreams...

Back to tackling the mountain of reading assignments...

My computer is temporarily working again, but it keeps on fucking up, so
inevitably it'll stop again. Arghity argh.

I'm gonna take you to a place I've never been before....

Ace of Base, baby! Early 90s perfection! Oh yeah all right, it's a
beautiful life!

The survey:

1. Which is your favourite album?
Boys for Pele. No doubt about it, followed closely by From The Choir Girl
Hotel.

2. Best album art?
Pele. Makes me think of backwoods alabama with snakes and thunderstorms
and vampires staring from the woods. There's something like evil magic in
the south. Mysterious, but with teeth.

3. Best album title?
To Venus and Back... Good album title that goes along with the
techno-spaced out sounds.

4. All time fave tori song?
Professional Widow. Fuck yeah.

5. Fave song from...

6. What was your first fave Tori song? Professional Widow. It runs in the
family...yeah.

7. Have you ever named a cat/car/plant after a Tori song? explain. Nope.
Never.

8. What other things has Tori turned you onto?

Neil Gaiman's books (*Delirium! Love love love Delirium!*), the mystery of
Anastasia Romanov (fueled by Gargoyles as well, damn the DNA evidence to
hell!), writing about female serial killers (professional widow, baby.
Listen to it whenever I write about a strong female character! Oh drool

...Okay, I'm insane. WheeEEEEE!!!! Now e.e. cummings will make sense!

8. What other things has Tori turned you onto? I seriously have
discovered that I was a native american woman in a past life, through
the
travels with Scarlet. (it sounds scary, but its true!) .. lots of
things
really. Ooh one of my fav things I learned from her was how to play the

piano looking all sultry! Its the whole left foot on the right pedal.
It cracks me up, but its actually more comfortable when you are short.

And let me tell you guys, I met Tori. I really got to see her up close
and in person backstage at the NJ show. She is the sweetest woman ever,

but she kinda freaked me out a little when I was there. My friends
suggest I may have reminded her of someone she knew, but she just
stared at
me during this one part of me talking to her, and she looked like she
was in awe of me, not vice versa!

It was cool though, I was giving her a painting I made and titled
"Beginning Scarlet's Walk" and she was all wide eyed like it was xmas
morning and i gave her a wish come true... :) She was soo nice and gave
me a
hug and when i tapped her on the back I said 'wow, you *are* real!'

it was so cool. i would have loved to sit and have coffee with her. she

just seems like a kindred to me.

and BTW, Beth Coulter, I saw you at the NJ show and I loved your shawl
honey! :)

so guys are we all loving the CD and the tour now? :)

I certainly am. Its funny, I actually put away SW for a while to listen

to other CDs. and it miraculously found its way back into the
collection, and now im hooked again! ;)

faery hugs!

Maybe I didn't word that carefully enough. I *liked* `Never' -- it
seemed to me the "last" good song of the 80's, an era that had a lot
of good female singer-songwriters.

Succubus Megan, congrats for saying that you don't like scarlet's walk. i

Hi all,

Two questions:

1) Does anyone have all the info on the various charms that are
available in the Scarlet's Walk package?

2) Does anyone know where I can get one? Any of them would be fine. I
got my CD in Monday's mail at work, and somewhere between my office and
house, the charm got away. I searched my office, car and living room
today, and had no luck. Whatever happened to it, it seems to be gone
forever, and I'd very much like to get one to keep with my package.

Thanks!

I agree. Even most of us were not blown away when we first heard it
(based on what people have said here). I know parts of it grow on you,
but if a CD is by an artist you don't know, and nothing about it grabs you
on the first spin, often it doesn't get played again.

With me, at least, this can happen even with artists I have heard
before. I think I've listened to Liz Phair's second album about two times
more than Bethany has, if that.

As B/4,

John

Brian mentioned a chicken place showing movies like Titanic and
so on.. "(what about the nudie bits?)"
nudie bits? there's nudie bits in Titanic?? (I haven't seen it so
forgive me. besides.. it's PG-13 isn't it?? I thought PG-13's didn't show
nudie bits.)

Brian then asked: "Has AOL taken over ICQ or something?"
it's been taken over by AOL for the last few years or so.. :P

Brian on Hugh Hefner: "He's got an image to keep up, even if he can't
keep other things up anymore."
har har. I actually wonder about him as far as THAT goes.. :P he
SUPPOSEDLY has a few Playmate girlfriends, if ya know what I mean..

Julie, thanks for the card. :D

Arija asked: "i never saw tori back in her earliest days, but i wonder if
her voice has changed a lot. you can't tell all that much on her albums,
but that sort of sound can be edited in the mastering process, too. have
any tori veterans observed changes like these?"
wellllllll... there's Cornflake Girl. I dunno if she did this in
'94, but on all the live versions since '98, she sings the first "you bet
your life it is" an octave lower than the 2nd. Dunno if that has anything
to do with it, but I thought it'd be worth mentioning at least. :D

Arija then asked: "if the first tori album that someone heard was
Scarlet's Walk, do you think it would have the same power to turn that
listener on to tori as Little Earthquakes or Boys for Pele would?"
Well, I loved Hey Jupiter.. the video.. the album cut slowly grew
on me.. and I fell in love with LE when I first heard it.. but I think my
"entry point" albums--the albums that made me pretty much realize "this
is IT." would be FTCH and TVAB.. so yeah. I think people can probably get
sucked into her through SW. Definitely a probability.

Julie asked us to post pics of ourselves.. mine is in my
platinumcomplication.com url--in the About Me section. :D

Reed said: "The intro to `Pancake' is very similar to BFP's `Blood
Roses'."
To me, when comparing it to BFP songs, Pancake sounds more like
Professional Widow.. *shrug* most likely the tempo, more than anything.
You may be thinking of the melody. I'm a VERY tempo, beat-driven girl..
the melody is a big key in the song, but it comes second to me after the
tempo/beat.

Gabs said in reply to my comment about God sounding latin-ish: "I always
felt there was a long lost bossanova at the core of God, tee-hee. There
you go. Or maybe it's just got da grooove, baby."
I say.. all of the above! hahah.. imagine that.. tangoing with
God.. shakin' your moneymaker with God. fun! :D I bet God's a pretty good
dancer. lol
Linda: glad your thanksgiving turned out better than it started.
:) BUT.. the "redheaded slut" drink, how in the hell is that appropriate
for yourself? lol

Brian questioned the validity of the "Mama, Jesus and Elvis" bit: "Are
you serious about this? If so, that would really get my eyes rolling. It
must make awards ceremonies really boring if you know what they're going
to say before they open their mouths."
well I didn't say that the rule was that they only thank Mama,
Jesus and Elvis.. I just said it had to be in there! rofl.. and I dunno.
I heard that somewhere myself. :D

Brian then said: "As much as I hate surveys, since it's so quiet I'll
participate in Cyndi's Tori survey."
but.. but.. but it's not mine! Someone on the Precious Things
list started it and I kindly ushered it into the RDTRN world.

Brian posted a very intriguing letter from someone to Rolling Stone..
very very interesting indeed.

John said: "I had a teddy bear named Pooh, and he was also in sorry shape
when he was retired, with all his fur worn off long ago (in fact, I'm
only guessing that he ever had fur, I don't really remember it). My
mother would sew him up when he sprung a leak, usually disguising the
patches as items of clothing."
hey, I'm 21 and I still have a teddy bear that I've had since age
two--and my dad recently told me that he only cost about five bucks.. and
he's still intact--thanks to my mom's sewing skills (and my own as I
learned to sew on 'im).. gotta love teddy bears! :D

Jim: glad you had a blast at Tori's concert! :)

Megan said: "I'm a monster. I ate a baby squid today. *sob* I'm so
sorry! Please forgive me!"
I've had squid before.. 'course it wasn't a BABY squid, but
nonetheless.. it was a squid.. it was actually not that bad..

Megan then said: "Concerning SW, I've listened to it 4 times and still
it, for the most part, sucks. So help me, I'm not going to condition
myself to like something that isn't worth my time, despite what others on
the list may think."
they say "slow fires burn the longest".. perhaps (and
unfortunately, if such is the case) in your case, it's not a slow
fire--it's a case of "the wood's wet!"?

Jessica said: "cyndi, i liked the article on blue roses since that's my
favorite color too. :D"
        WOOHOOOOOO!!! :D

Then she said: "i think the mother + juarez = carbon comment was
interesting because i hate mother, love juarez and think carbon isn't
anything special. perfect match!"
well I also recently thought about it and realized that Hotel had
a little something to do with Carbon's existence too (if ya know what I
mean lol).. very very little but still.. some.. what do you think of
Hotel?? :D

Julie: YAAAAAY!!! YOU GOT TO MEET TORI!! WHEEEEE!!!! :)

and uh, on that note, I'll yap at you pretty purple people later. :D

Subject: Coming out to really deep thoughts again...

 Hello,

I'm absolutely bored in the office right now so I'm going to do the survey
 questions that Cyndi put out:

 1. Which is your favourite album? Scarlet's Walk

 2. Best album art? From the Choirgirl Hotel

 3. Best album title? From the Choirgirl Hotel

 4. All time fave Tori song? Silent all these years

 5. Fave song from...
Little Earthquakes? Silent All these Years
 Under the Pink? Space Dog
>From the Choirgirl Hotel? Pandora's Aquarium
To Venus and Back? 1,000 Oceans
 Strange Little Girls? Time
 Scarlet's Walk? Your Cloud

 6. What was your first fave Tori song? Silent All These Years

 7. Have you ever named a cat/car/plant after a Tori song?
 Not yet.

 8. What other things has Tori turned you onto?
Neil Gaiman, The Dent, Pianos- I didn't know they could sound so beautiful
and contemporary and exciting, Fairies, mailing lists, close friends whom I
met on the local mailing lists for Tori EWFs.

So there, that took me about a half hour to answer.

Julie H, congrats on finding friends that you're comfortable with, I know
how hard it is to make friends sometimes. Especially when you think that
you're not good enough to have any and in the end they make you feel like
you absolutely deserve to have friends.

Congrats also on meeting Tori, something of a distant dream for me. The
way
you described it, felt like I was there myself saying "Hi" to Tori herself.
I've been to concerts but have never been to a meet and greet before but
I'd
imagine the excitement and the closeness to the artiste is just
overwhelming! The closest I ever got was about 10 feet from Gwen Stefani
and Dolores O'Riordan (they had a double bill concert) and that's only
because I was squeezing my way to the front row.

I really enjoyed everyone's Tori concert experience and am glad that you
guys are writing it down in such intimate details because it feels like
you're there yourself when you read of such things (and I do have a very
 active imagination!).

I've got 2 friends who are planning a trip to the US to see Tori and I'm
pretty excited for them as well.

Speaking of childhood heros, my Monkey (yeah that's his name too) has been
safely stored in a box in my room along with all his other stuffed animal
friends and a family of Smurfs. He's got one eye missing and wears a multi
coloured striped sweater that's sewn on. He got his foot torn before and I
sewed it back on all by myself, he owes me his life and I owe mine to him
 too.

 Jai guru de va Om
