Bollocks! That's all I've got to say to Violet's joke.

In #1758, Reed clarified:
>Maybe I didn't word that carefully enough. I *liked* `Never' -- it
>seemed to me the "last" good song of the 80's, an era that had a lot
>of good female singer-songwriters.

The second half of the 80's must have been a very dry time for you then.
Heart sort of lost me after their Bad Animals album, as their songs seemed
to be too much of the same. Sure, they might have had a good song or two on
the following albums but most songs seemed stale. Hopefully their next
effort will rock once again after a few years in the wilderness.

Cyndi asked:
>nudie bits? there's nudie bits in Titanic?? (I haven't seen it so
>forgive me. besides.. it's PG-13 isn't it??

It was tastefully done. I can't remember what it was rated here, but I'd
suggest seeing it. I can think of worse ways to waste 3 hours of your life.

>Brian posted a very intriguing letter from someone to Rolling Stone..
>very very interesting indeed.

I was hoping posting that would have generated some more discussion. You
and Matt were the only ones that even acknowledged that letter and for that
I'm thankful at least. A couple of years ago, people would have been all
over that.

All I can make from that is people must agree with the sentiment.

I don't think it helps much that rock music in recent years has largely
blown and sucked at the same time. The world seems to be holding its
collective breath for a new Nirvana, which I can't see happening in the
current climate. All we're getting now has been done before. It's no wonder
then that Rolling Stone has got no clue as to what rock really is these
days, but grasping at pop princesses and calling them "rock" is just too much.

What the world really does not need is the dinosaurs of rock leading the
way with no competition from a new breed.

In #1759, Matt wrote:
>cyndi asked about the bleeding eye problem i've been experiencing...

It could be worse - it could be a bleeding heart. ;-)

On the woes of English cricket: it could be worse, you could have
capitulated like Pakistan did in two days. Look on the bright side - Warney
just dislocated his shoulder. You've only got to eliminate about another 50
Aussie players to have a chance.

>and yet we still refuse to let the ashes themselves leave the
>MCC, even though the aussies have just retained them for the eighth
>consecutive series.

I actually agree with the MCC in not releasing them. The Ashes is a
legendary symbol and was about the "death" of English cricket. If anything,
it should be given to the losing side. If it is released, it shouldn't be
handled by any players because of its value, so if you can't hold it
there's little point in having it. Recall what happened to the America's
Cup when it was taken to with a sledgehammer by a mad Kiwi? The Ashes would
be dust if that happened.

>criminy, i've just read coops' responses to these same questions. i
>didn't copy you mate, honest, i guess we both just have impeccable taste ;-)

bollocks, you just did a cut and paste job to save yourself the time. I
thought your answers sounded a little familiar.

>re: women in rock - does anyone know if tanya donelly, or kristin hersh,
>or kim deal, or juliana hatfield, or liz phair got a mention in there? it
>sounds to me like rolling stone has finally gone senile.

It was actually a Liz Phair list that I got that letter from and people
went apeshit over it. While I can't remember who exactly got mentioned, at
least some of the above got a mention.

Long live rock
Brian

I'm starting to run out of silly email subject ideas.. lol
somebody be silly so's I can be sillier! lol.. blah. I gotta go shower,
get dressed, and study for my math exam.. and what am I doing? replying
to a really quite short RDTRN.. then I'll go do it. I just woke up for
pete's sake! lol

John said: "Well, *I* got a good laugh out of Violet's joke."
I giggled a little at it.. rofl.. I didn't get it till I looked
at those urls but I did get a giggle out of it when I did look.. :)

Vikki said: "I've been a lurker since I joined up... but I just had to
ask about that joke in #1761. I don't get it :P I like cows! I'd like to
get it! Someone please explain so I can get some sleep! ;)"
apparently, Vikki, weebles are an old toy of the 70's that you
can try 'n push over, and they will tip WAY over and stuff, but they
don't stay down.. I've seen more recent variations of this toy, more so
on little cartoon shows like that Rugrats show with a big blowup clown
weeble-like toy that scared the crap outta the little kids, for example..

Megan said of using sexy words and tongues: "Um...About the second part
of that last sentence? There are _many_ ways tobe sexy with your tongue
and I, for one, really don't want to see Ms. Christina Aguilara
practicing them in a video. *shudders*"
*shudders with you* ay yi.. I actually saw some pics of her on
that VH1 show that's coming on tonight.. and *gasps in shock* she's
actually wearing CLOTHES during her little performance.. CLOTHES!! SHE
ACTUALLY WORE CLOTHES THAT COVERED MORE THAN 10% OF HER BODY!!!! ay yi yi
YI! *faints* hope you enjoy your vacation, Megan.. :D

on THAT note.. I've got a math final tomorrow.. pray for me. wish me
luck.. or SOMETHING.. o_O;;; now it's off I go to study! WHEEEEE!!!
:P~~~~

happy birthday erivelton and Guinnevere! :)

Dog update- her name is Juno :) I kept calling out the several possible
names and she always perked up at "Juno". Like she helped pick her own name
:) She's getting better, and in just a couple of weeks her skin and fur
have been healing well from the mange she had from being outside for so long
as a stray. I was worried that she'd have trouble adjusting to things but
actually she's really gotten used to being with me, as well as other people
who come by the apartment.

And I think I've solved the excercise problem: taking her for walks is a
workout :) and it seems that I don't really need an alarm clock anymore :)

New TV show: ATM Real World! Just use the video from the security camera!
;)

Makes me wonder if VP Cheney will go on a secret peace mission to Iraq....

As busy as I've been, I've still been able to listen to SW, and all I can
say is that it's totally cool! My charm is a little yellow, red, and black
frog :) I want to find the time to give the CD a totally uninterupted
listen to better comment on each song, but so far I'm really impressed.

I've recently discovered the UK program "Spaced". Funniest thing I've seen
in a long time. Not sci fi but lots of movie/tv show jokes and referrences
are thrown in.

And my sister and her husband arrived safe and sound from the UK Friday
night to visit for the holidays. Still got the American accents but lots of
British slang and terminology does slip into the conversation ;)

later!

Simon
