Riiiiiight....I'm on Christmas break here, kids. I thought I'd save all my
RDTs til January to read but then I realized I'd be strapped at a computer
for a damn hour to read all of them. I realize Rolling Stone isn't about
music anymore but yeah, I've been reading it since 1994 and my subscription
goes til '03. I guess if I was on some sort of women's list, they'd bitch
about Cosmopolitan not being about what it was originally supposed to be
about. err, let me go back. a month ago in my house, my friend jake said
"jess, why you gotta read that shit?" of my Cosmo. yeah, they recycle sex
tips from three months prior and they have lame articles but I love reading
that too. we gotta have our guilty pleasures and as long as you don't take
it too seriously, what's the problem? I love blink 182 but i don't think fo
them as pure punk. punk was the sex pistols. i don't make things out for
what they aren't. at least they have their shit together sometimes. the
rising by bruce was one of the best albums of 2002 even though people have
forgotten or don't care about sept 11th anymore.
mark, i loved your weather tornado stories in #1764. what a turn-on. i used
to want to be a meteorologist before i found political science.
simon, cyndi, thanks for the birthday well wishes. it was a weird day. my
dad got stoned with all my friends and then we ate ice cream.

she fuckin hates me,
jessica parsons

brian, i miss your emails. keep them comin'

oh and i'm seeing gangs of new york on christmas. i wanted to see bowling
for colombine or catch me if you can yet my dad won out. the turkey must go
in the oven, he says!

Subject: holiday traditions

Violet asked us what our traditions for the holidays are.

My life is kind of in flux, since my dad remarried in 1999, and Devin and I
moved in together in 2000. The past few years we've done all sorts of
different things.

One thing that I like that we've always done is that my dad lets us open one
present on Christmas Eve - a taste of what's coming on Christmas Day.

The past few years, it's been a big family dinner at my dad's with my
stepmom, her kids, their families, and my brother. Devin came along to that
last year. He might this year, too, but it's actually kind of still up in
the air.

Then Christmas morning - me at my dad's, Devin at his parent's - and last
year I went to Devin's parents' in the afternoon for more gifts, laying
around reading, and dinner. That was nice; we'll probably do the same this
year.

(Devin is wrapping all his gifts right now, as we speak, just after midnight
on Christmas Eve day).

I still feel like we're making new traditions, with all the new family and
changes. And yet it still does feel like the old Christmas in some ways.
It's nice.

Hope all of you enjoy your holidays --

Beth

Subject: Thoughts from San Francisco

Hi everyone,

I was able to attend the Saturday night show in San Francisco and it
was wonderful. I must admit that I got teary eyed when Tori played "I
cant see New York". That was a very powerful performance for me. I am
also disgusted by the moron who interrupted Tori while she sang "Gold
Dust". I'm pleased that she told that person "Fuck You". It makes me
mad when people do not properly show appreciation for the artist. The
best parts of the show for me are those in which she plays alone at the
piano. Her voice and her playing are so beautiful and are sometimes
unfortunately drowned out by excessive bass and drums. Its lovely how
quiet it gets when she plays alone at the piano. It reminds me of the
"Little Earthquakes" tour where you could "hear a pin drop". Anyway its
all good.

happy holidays to all,

Charles

Subject: Happy Holidays from Bethey

Dear Friends, Family and Cyber-family,

To those who celebrate the holidays (belated Chanukah), Merry Christmas,
etc. There are so many different ways of celebrating the end of December
anymore, I scarcely dare to wish any *one* particular holiday.

I think there is a good reason for it. We've just past the longest night of
the year and are entering the coldest part of the season. To start this
hard time of year, we come together in the spirit of love and giving. We
give thought to family and friends that are not often brought to mind. Such
as, I wish I knew how to contact my brother at this time of year, when I
hardly think of him in general. Maybe it's a leftover from early man,
needing to come together as winter set in, so they all could survive.

Whatever the reason, I am sort of glad for it. I enjoy giving gifts with
all my heart, giving so much thought into each item in hopes that I make the
recipient glad and happy.  But I must admit, this year has been rough on me;
the Christmas Spirit I usually have has been elusive. Maybe because true
Peace on Earth seems so impossible an idea this year. I ache for our global
community, knowing that this holiday season, so many are suffering
needlessly.

If you are one those suffering, my heart is with you. If you aren't, think
of those who are and do what you can to brighten someone's life in the
spirit of Peace. Even if it's just a matter of meeting someone's eyes in
the street and giving them a smile, acknowledging that you are both part of
this remarkable human race. I do it all the time, and sometimes the smile
in return is enough to cheer my heart for days.

May your days be Merry and Bright.
Dream of World Peace.
The best of holidays and seasons greetings to you all,
Fairy Blessings,
Bethey

12/24/02
9:59 pm

My Christmas Eve was good. We opened our presents and then ate a great
dinner and then we watched 2 episodes of Seinfeld and then my brother and I
watched 2 episodes of My So-Called Life, he got the entire season on DVD set
for Christmas. That show is so phenomenal. I have never seen a better
television program than My So-Called Life. The way it's done...I can't even
put into words how wonderful it is. It's soo real. Very realistic, very
descriptive, very detailed, very touching, I can relate to a lot of things
and I love how she speaks. Her thoughts are spoken and ...gosh, I can't
describe it...it's just amazing.

Now, I'm listening to my new CD, Norah Jones's Come Away With Me.
