Great idea, Dalsh!!! I can't think of anyone more
deserving of a star than Tori.
~*~*~*~*~*~
I wish I had more time to post these days.... stuff's
gotten hectic in my lab, and I've been working crazy
hours every day. In fact, I'm at work right now, on
New Year's Eve day-- and I'll be here till 9:30 pm,
and then I have to come in tomorrow. Blah! (Hey, who
am I kidding... I love what I'm doing, so it is
completely worth it.)
I still enjoy reading the digests during breaks, and I
hope that everyone is having a happy holiday season.
:-)
with my love for the new year....
~Linda~

Subject: *rip!* ... oops!
howdy everybody!
Jes'ca and Angela, happy belated bday. ^^ now.. on with the
replies! :D
lemme start the post off with the rap discussion Dani and I are having..
but before I get right into it, yes, I'm familiar with when the true
old-school GOLDEN years were.. I just referred to '97-99 as MY golden
years for it because I didn't truly start paying attention to stuff like
MTV until the 90's, and those years (97-99) were the peak of when I
actually cared about MTV in general--particularly hip hop.
ANYWAY.. I do enjoy Public Enemy, altho I don't own any of their albums,
and I have heard about Jurassic 5 from a friend, but haven't heard
anything of theirs yet.. (must download.. must download.. need new
music..) and I pretty much forgot about 'em until you brought them up.
*ahem* anyway again.. I wasn't as interested in much else except for what
was blaring all over MTV at the time, yes, but some of it actually also
turned me off too (Thong Song for example). I still tend to work that
way, except it's not *MTV* that I watch anymore, it's the College
Television Network channel at school that I watch. So far, it's kinda
disappointing overall, but that IS how I discovered Tori, for one thing.
Dani mentioned: "I am predominantly drawn to rhythm in music..."
so am I. first and foremost, if it's got a catchy beat, my ears
perk up. Then, if it's got good melody, or it's haunting (I loooove
haunting), I keep listening. If it's somebody I haven't heard much of
before (like Tori), I'll go home and check out other songs by whoever it
was.. sometimes I'm hooked, sometimes I'm turned completely off--other
than that one song that caught my attention.
I think part of my "problem" with rap nowadays is that overall,
especially in the last two years, I've been turned on a WHOLE lot more by
stuff like rock.. punk.. industrial.. and plain ol' piano music (from
classical to Tori.). I'm still a very beat-driven girl, but I seem to be
getting my beats from rock instead of rap.
it ALSO does NOT help that last quarter, before I got my new CD player in
my car, all I had was the radio, and the station that I listened to
predominantly was the pop/hip hop channel or the r&b/hip hop channel..
and both of those stations played the SAME damned thing every stinking
hour! overplay got to me, basically.
You mentioned the Beastie Boys.. I don't own any albums by them, but my
sister does, and I LOVE 'em. I listened to them more in '95-96 than I did
later, however, because that was the year my sister was a senior in high
school (I was a freshman.. my brother was a junior.. the oldest one got
to drive and as a result, pick the music to play).
Dani said: "I love rap music because it just happens to be the stuff that
makes my ears the happiest."
it used to make my ears content and blissful too, and it still
does, generally, but these days I'm more likely to throw in Green Day or
Bif Naked or Tori or NIN into the CD player, and while I love these
artists, it kinda scares me that I've changed so much when remembering
how it was like for me in the late 90's.
I don't think Kid Rock really counts as hip-hop.. so much as he counts
for rock-rap, which is something different to what we're discussing here,
I believe. Same with Limp Bizkit. The more I think about it, the more I
think that Kid Rock lumped into the hip-hop genre makes him stick out
worse than a sore thumb. (and it's been a few days since I bought his new
album along with Green Day and NIN.. and I've only listened to him
*once*.. could it be that I'm finally growing out of him too??)
As for the sampling issue, I'm not against sampling 95% of the songs on
this or that album.. I'm more against **everything** on the album being
sampled. *I* want to sample songs myself, but I also like originality.
Puff Daddy (I refuuuuuuuse to call him P Diddy.) disappointed me because
*EVERY* track on his album was sampled, even the ones that I didn't know
were sampled (most likely cuz I didn't know the song). I *do* understand
that sampling is the basis of most hip hop, old and new, but unless I've
been greatly wronged, I've also understood that *some* songs by these
rappers had no sampling behind it, and if this is true (the no samples in
a few songs), then I'd like to see Puffy do that for a change in at least
one or two songs.
In the end, I don't much like admitting that I'm ignorant to things,
ESPECIALLY when it comes to music, but sometimes that's exactly the
problem. "Ignorant" is so often considered a terrible thing because
usually, if you call someone ignorant, they're likely to feel insulted
because they feel as if you just called them "totally and utterly
stupid", since it is too often related with backwards people living out
in the country somewhere in Oklahoma in a trailer park home, which it
shouldn't be.
hmm.. I need to go. it's 2:30 and I woke up an hour and a half ago and I
still haven't gotten ready for the day. I'll reply to the other yummy
stuff either tonight after the new year festivities, or tomorrow when
everybody else is busy being hung over and burying their heads under
their pillows. :D
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!! :D
Sincerely, Cyndi S. Crawford

As Brian asked...
So if your middle name is Rhodes, does that mean you let guys bang on you
like a piano?
Uhh that'd be really fuckin' nice right now! My two girl friends are here
sitting with me and all they're talking about now is either getting laid or
having their boyfriends go down on them. god damn, see, i have no sex rules.
whatever. i guess i'm gonna have to ask this guy tonight to kiss me at
midnight even though i think he's at least bi and probably gay. god damn my
new year's resolution #1 is to get laid again. and to go skinny dipping and
do other stuff.
slightly bitter but still gonna try to get kissed in 5 hours and 3 minutes.

This post seemed to have disappeared. Let's try again.
Yo!
Word up.
That Ring-a-fuckin-rose
she really goes and goes.
That Q'land bitch knows
she makes me blow my loads.
She's been around all time,
but it really is a crime,
she can't make the time
so I'm bustin out this rhyme.
Get down, see you later,
ass so hot you just gotta date her.
Pussy wet like a water filled crater,
wish I could say I just ate her.
That Ring you know,
she ain't nobody's ho.
Better listen up, so
she won't bust ya balls, bro.
She'll leave you all for dead,
while she's messin with ya head.
No truer wordz been said,
so y'all can take it as it's read
that Ringrose bitch, yo,
sez it's time for me to go.
