Well, it sounds like we have our answer as to why the digest has been quiet
-- everyone's trying to make sure they don't flunk out of school. So I want
to wish everyone luck on their finals/papers/etc. even though most of them
are probably finished and turned in by now. :)

My month has been hectic for lots of reasons. After many months of
deliberations Devin has taken a (really excellent) job up in Seattle, and I
decided to stay in the Bay Area. We're still together, romantically, and
will visit each other as often as time and finances permit. I've found a
place to move into and will be doing that this weekend. After that, I expect
to have more time to participate in online stuffs, although July is
typically busy as I happen to be related to (or friends with) lots of
Cancers and Leos.

I take it that some of this stuff might be explained in the Animatrix shorts
-- but I haven't seen them yet so I don't know. I do wish the character's
names were more obvious (although I suppose we still don't know why Trinity
is named Trinity, aside from the fact that she completes the
Morpheus-Neo-Trinity trinity). I also wanted to know what neo did to save
that kid's life.

Well, the sad thing about the LOTR film is that all the Uruk-hai were black
(or at least, it was implied). Not Good. But yes, I loved how diverse Zion
was. It reminded me a lot of living here in the East Bay. I'm moving to
Marin and I'm going to really miss the diversity over here. It's really
tough to keep one's mind entirely closed to other races when one is actually
an ethnic minority everywhere one goes.

john, do you watch the sopranos? i noticed that you said that in the second
matrix you missed joe p(oh my god i forgot his last name). i finally got HBO
in December and every sunday they show a few episodes. they started in
january with the very first and are showing them throughout the year with
the new season starting in Sept or Oct. damn exciting. i fucking love the
sopranos a hell of a lot and david chase just announced they're doing
another season because he has so much he needs to tie up and introduce.
anyway, if anyone else loves the sopranos as much as i do, jump in. i think
it's the best tv show ever because he doesn't make any of the characters
perfect. it'd be so easy to do that too.
i was supposed to go to CA this month but I can't because i got an
internship. yay. i don't get paid but i don't give a shit. i'll be glad to
be getting out of the house and all. 32 hours til harry potter! i'm so damn
excited. i'm gonna try to read the whole book this weekend. my eyes will
hurt so bad but it'll be worth it. i'm going to the party at barnes and
nobles with all the little kids. woo. harry potter in june and seeing tori
in july. yay! i haven't seen tori in a few years since the year that she did
the thing with alanis. 2000 i think.
has anyone seen the 100 greatest songs of the last 25 years on vh1? hosted
by the lovely drea de matteo from the sopranos! yeah, my sopranos fever is
reaching a peak. :) anyway, some pretty bad songs on that list. britney
spears is on it with baby one more time right AFTER bruce springsteen's born
in the usa! the blasphemy! fuck britney.

I've been spending time recently looking at bathroom fixtures, mainly
because the tiles are starting to pop off the wall, but also because my
bathroom is intrinsically ugly and barely functional. I've always hated the
bath as it's far too small for an adult to have a bath in. To get a real
sized bath I'll have to compromise on space for the vanity or the shower.
One thing I have noticed is that most bathroom items are made for bathrooms
that are horrendously large. I've never seen the point in a large bathroom,
but I don't see the point in one that's too small either.

Loria mused in #1926:
>I'm also wonderingwhat to do next in my life. I'm 29 years old, and I
>feel I've reached an impasse.
>I feel like I really want to move on in my life, but I also feel somewhat
>trapped in my job, trapped in my friend's lives...

If you were never to question where you are going in life, then either
everything is going perfectly or you're in denial and stuck in a rut. Of
course nothing in the real world goes perfectly. There's really only two
options, one of which is to go numb and keep going on with everything as it
has always been or to take a risk and dare to do something different. You
have to weigh up whether taking a risk and possibly failing is less
frightening than keeping the status quo.

Not much help, am I?

As for keeping "old" cars, if there's no rust whatsoever then it's worth
keeping, which is why I'm still driving a 22 year old car.

Bethey wrote in #1828...

The evils of the world will always be there. There are just times when you
have to concentrate on number one.

>can you just walk up to someone you've known for 6 months and say, "I just
>noticed you were my soulmate.

What would be worse is to never have said it. Life's too short to spend
wondering about the "what if's". Nothing's more tragic than two people
having feelings for each other and nobody makes the first step, even though
that first step can be a leap of faith at times.

It sounds like John B. liked The Matrix Reloaded.

>6. Too many fights, especially since everybody in the movie obviously has
>the same fight trainer. Some of the fights don't have much of a point,
>either.

Which was largely what got up my nose about it. The movie didn't know
whether to be a typical mindless violence movie with no plot, or there was
too much philosophizing breaking up the action, thus losing momentum.

I agree with your thoughts on the Keymaker being a solid character and
particularly on your thoughts on Agent Smith. If it wasn't for him the
movie would have died long before it got started. I did feel however there
were some wonderful opportunities for classic one-liners that were passed up.
