LDRs can work, though they are not always easy.
Of course, I haven't encountered any kinds of relationships which *were*
easy, so I guess that goes without saying.
> I take it that some of this stuff might be explained in the Animatrix
Hey, when I pay $10 to see a movie, I shouldn't have to go see a bunch of
other things in order to understand it.
> I do wish the character's names were more obvious
I'm wondering if all that sort of thing will be explained in the third
movie.
It's certainly understandable that everybody has those weird names. After
all, when they were awakened, it's not like they had names at that point,
except in the Matrix, and those would probably seem like slave names
(hence Agent Smith's insistance on calling Neo "Mister Anderson"). So,
they'd take whatever names they wanted.
> I also wanted to know what neo did to save that kid's life.
That also confused me, because for a minute the kid reminded me of Mouse,
but then I remembered that he's dead.
> It's really tough to keep one's mind entirely closed to other

The first place I lived on my own was a Hispanic neighborhood, and that
was interesting. I knew I'd lived there long enough to be regarded as a
native when the people in the stores started talking to me in Spanish
without thinking about it.
I remember when I was married and my wife sent me to buy capers (for a
salad) and the store owner asked hesitantly what I wanted them for. I was
the first Anglo who'd ever bought them.
Jessica asked:
> john, do you watch the sopranos?
Nope, no cable. In fact, no television at all.
Brian said:
> I don't see the point in one that's too small either.
I had some friends who lived in a commune, many years ago, and one of the
houses had a huge bathroom, with benches along two of the walls.
Sometimes one person would be taking a bath and a bunch of other people
would end up in there also hanging out and talking.
> Nothing's more tragic than two people having feelings for each other

I remember on the Gay Issues forum on the old ILINK (I think it was
ILINK), there were two women who had roomed together in college, had got
an apartment together after college, had lived together for several years,
neither of them ever dating anybody, before they realized they were gay
and became lovers.
> It sounds like John B. liked The Matrix Reloaded.
Pretty much, though I admit that I liked the X-Men movie more.
> The movie didn't know whether to be a typical mindless violence movie
> with no plot, or there was too much philosophizing
The action and the talk seem to happen at completely different times, not
integrated at all. That's been true of both movies, with the exception of
the "sparring program" sequence in the first movie. That was a wonderful
melding of the two, but it shows up the rest of the movie.
> wonderful opportunities for classic one-liners that were passed up.
An opportunity which was not missed in the X-Men movie.
"Have you ever tried *not* being a mutant?"
"We love what you've done with your hair."
There were others also.
As B/4,
John

I am now CPR certified! Woohoo! Now I know how to give CPR and can save the Queen of England if she suffers from a heart attack while I'm in the room! Yeah!
Also, only 3 days left of school. 3 days left till I can be stealing my sister's harry potter book (NO ONE TELL ME A THING, DAMMIT! NO ONE SAY ANYTHING SPECIFIC ABOUT THE BOOK! MUST! BE! SURPRISED!). 3 days until I can begin forgetting about logic FOREVER. 3 days until sweet, sweet release! 2 months of vacation! Woo!
I gotta go study logic, man! Must! Study! Now!

bethey, sit your ass down and start explaining! ok, so first of all:
wow..."the professor!" it sounds so gilligan's island-ish yet so...odd.
sure, every college student has had or currently has some damn hot,
intelligent professors but actually saying that you're his soulmate? that's
kind of scary...on your side and his. well..good luck on that front but what
was with your casual statement that you don't believe in love? i want to
know because it's one of those things that people believe in but we don't
really acknowledge it...we just throw ourselves in. so. yeah, you gotta
explain. and update. that's a crazy ass story.

Hi - it's long overdue for my once or twice yearly note to list. ha. But
I had to reply to Bethie's soulmate dilemma....
>>>>Badly, it seems I was heard by a student standing in the hall, cause
she was giving me this shit eating grin while trying to sidle up to his
door. Oh Well. No harm, no foul.
I'm not so sure about that. Most colleges, I suspect yours included,
have fairly strict policies regulating contact and conduct between
professors and students. If so, your professor is very likely painfully
aware of this fact, and this may account for some of his reserve and
distance. When I was in school, a professor was caught having a
relationship with one of his students, and he was fired, after years of
tenure. It was a waste of a brilliant mind, and the loss of a good
career.
Just my two cents worth. I don't know how close you are to graduation,
but if you have a couple of years to go, it'd either be a lot of waiting
on both of your parts, or some dangerous sneaking around.

Ok, so we've had the discussions on scrunch vs. fold and paper over or
under with toilet paper. We may have also had the one about button/fly vs.
fly/button when doing up your pants. I read something recently that
suggested most people button shirts from the bottom up. I know I always do
it from the top button down. What do other people do?
Beth wrote in digest 1829:
>Well, the sad thing about the LOTR film is that all the Uruk-hai were black
One thing I always noticed in Xena: Warrior Princess was exactly that, the
bad guys were always Maori. I guess that's what happens when you film
things in New Zealand. But it does play to the basic stereotype that has
existed from the beginning of cinema. If the bad guys weren't black, they
were wearing a black hat at least. It doesn't necessarily have to have
racist connotations, it goes back to simple white=good, light, safe and
black=bad, dark, dangerous.
Loria wrote in 1830:

Always a good policy.
I must also say it's not so hard to own a car for over 10 years here unless
you live along the coast as we don't have to salt the roads in winter.
Scotch rounded out the digest with:

Wuss. That's nothing to the time I had a tetanus shot in one arm,
meningitis, cholera and typhoid in the other and a huge horse needle of
gamma globulin in my butt. I couldn't sleep on either side or on my back
for two nights, not to mention feeling really ill from that cocktail.

Subject: for sale :/
I hate selling my Tori stuff, but right now, it's just more important to
pay off debt than it is to have a bunch of stuff sitting around. *so*.
I'm selling one thing on ebay, my old Dew Drop Inn Necklace:

The rest of what I've got up for sale is listed at the atforumz,
and the link is:

I just want it all to go to a good home. All prices are negotiable.
