So on the incredibly unlikely chance that there's anyone who hasn't seen
this already, here's a message from Tori about the Taxivision contest:
Just a note to first thank everyone for their submissions to
the Taxivision Contest. We received an overwhelming response.
Finally, after a lot of thought, debate and popcorn, we have
narrowed it down to 9. Check out the finalists on
http://www.toriamos.com/taxivision, which are in no particular
order, and tell me what you think by voting for your favorite.
I really appreciate all the blood, sweat and tears that
everyone put into this project. I believe these entries
deserve our time and consideration so I'm asking as many of you
as I can to support these artists by voting. I'm curious to
know what you think. Then I'll tell you what I think. This
just proves that the visual arts community is alive and well
and inspiring us without the funding or the control of the
commercial giants (not that funding sucks). Sending a big
thanks.
-Tori
So pop over, check out the videos, and share your thoughts here about what
you think! I'd love to hear everyone's opinions.
Also, since I'm actually here and posting, I've been meaning to mention for
a while now that if any of you are on Livejournal, if you'll add "rdtrn" to
your Interests list, you can find some other RDTers over there. Not many
at the moment, but maybe over time there will be more. There are tons of
EWF on Livejournal ... so RDTers, represent!

Hola mes amies,
Concerning a certain famous book, I finally got to read Harry Potter, so I feel much better! But since I went kinda sorta insane about it in my previous post, I'm not gonna say much about what I thought of the book except that I give it 8/10 gold stars.
Concerning summer, god bless it! Concerning the phrase 'god bless it', I feel it's very overused, especially when used as a patriotic phrase. I typed the first sentence of this paragraph and literally cringed at the end of it. It's just one of those phrases that, for some strange reason, really gets on my nerves. And I just used it. I'm such a hypocrite.
Concerning Tori, I still don't like Scarlet's Walk. I like about 3 songs of the entire thing. I hope her next album contains songs that actually sound...oh, say, DIFFERENT from each other. Just sayin.
Concerning exercise, I've noticed how much less tiring it was to walk up the huge-ass hill on my street. I must have gotten stronger legs since last year.
Concerning lychees, they're now my favorite fruit, even displacing pomegranates (for the moment). I'm trying to grow a lychee seed in a pot outside, but I doubt it'll live that long, since I live in Pennsylvania and lychees are a tropical fruit. Still, it'll be neat to see if it'll grow.
Concerning my current mental health, I've been finding it very hard to think properly, recently. I don't know what's up with my brain. Fall out from the endless studying of June? Quite possible!
...And I think now's the time to end this email, before I start making sense.
How Now, Brown Cow?

Subject: Michael Moore's Letter to the President
Can You Please Do Better Than a Rose Bush?
By Michael Moore, MichaelMoore.com
June 30, 2003
Dear Lt. George W. Bush,
I hope you don't mind me referring to you by the only true military rank you
ever achieved, that being the one from your on-again, off-again "days" in
the, um, Texas Air National Guard. Ever since I saw you in that flyboy
outfit, landing on that ship, I assumed you now wanted to be addressed by
your military title, as opposed to the civilian rank imposed on you by your
dad's friends.
So, Lieutenant, I was wondering, would you do me a favor?
Could you please do better than a rose bush?
I saw the guy on TV yesterday that your boys found, the Iraqi who said he
had "planted" some nuclear plans in his "back yard" in Baghdad - 12 years
ago - "under a rose bush."
Woo boy. That's a good one. Do you really think we are as dumb as we look? I
know our fascination with "American Idol" and Scott Peterson may make us
Americans look a little light in the head, but when it comes to lying to us
to lead us into war, we really do demand a bit more of an effort and a
follow-through.
You see, George, it's not the lying and the doctoring of intelligence that
has me all upset. It's that you've had control of Iraq for over two months
now - and you couldn't even find the time to plant just a few nukes or vats
of nerve gas and at least make it look like you weren't lying to us.
You see, by not faking some evidence of weapons of mass destruction, it
shows that you thought no one would mind if it turned out you made
everything up. A different kind of president, who believes that the American
public would be outraged if they ever found out the truth, would go to great
lengths to cover up his subterfuge.
Johnson did it with the Gulf of Tonkin. He said our ships were "attacked" by
the North Vietnamese. They weren't, but he knew he had to at least make it
look like it happened. Nixon said he wasn't "a crook," but he knew that
wasn't enough, so he paid hush money to the burglars and somehow had 18 1/2
minutes erased from a tape in the Oval Office. Why did he do this? Because
he knew the American people would be pissed if they found out the truth.
Your blatant refusal to back up your verbal deception with the kind of fake
evidence we have become used to is a slap in our collective American face.
It's as if you are saying, "These Americans are so damn apathetic and lazy,
we won't have to produce any weapons to back up our claims!" If you had just
dug a few silo holes in the last month outside Tikrit, or spread some
anthrax around those Winnebagos near Basra, or "discovered" some plutonium
with that stash of home movies of Uday Hussein feeding his tigers, then it
would have said to us that you thought we might revolt if you were caught in
a lie. It would have shown us some respect. We honestly wouldn't have cared
if it later came out that you planted all the WMD - sure, we'd be properly
peeved, but at least we would have been proud to know that you knew you had
to back up your phony claims with the real deal!
I guess you finally figured that out this week. It started to appear that
millions of us were calling you on your bluff - those "fictitious reasons
for the fictitious war." So you quickly produced this man and his rose bush
and some 12-year-old piece of paper and some metal parts. CNN broke in at
5:15pm and screamed they had the exclusive! "IRAQI NUCLEAR PLANS FOUND!" But
a few good reporters started asking some hard questions - and, barely three
hours later, your own administration was forced to admit the plans were "not
the smoking gun" proving that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.
Oops.
Never a good idea to rely on a bush, Lieutenant.
Yours,
Michael Moore
PS. Sorry, I still can't get that padded flyboy suit out of my head. I know,
I need help. But when you landed on that carrier, and that banner read,
"MISSION ACCOMPLISHED," just what mission was that that was accomplished?
'Cause by my count, more than 50 of our young soldiers have died since you
said the mission was accomplished. Anarchy still reigns in Iraq, the Brits
are losing kids too, and wacko fundamentalists now seem to ready to rule the
land. Women are already being told to cover their faces and shut their
mouths, store owners who sell liquor have been executed and movie theaters
showing "immoral" Hollywood movies have been forced to shut down. And hey,
this isn't even west Texas! Maybe you could get back into that jumpsuit, fly
over to Baghdad and land at the former Saddam International Airport, jump
out and give one of those big happy waves - under a sign that reads,
"MISSION IMPOSSIBLE."

Joe Pantoliano is the name you're looking for. Man,
his character in the Sopranos, Ralphie, a sick sick
puppy. I think he's going to be in his own series
this fall on one of the major networks. Can't recall
the details. But yeah, the Sopranos, love the show. I
really enjoyed the first couple seasons. Have to say
my fave show on HBO is Oz though. It was the one show
that completely blew me away with every episode. It
was truly brutal but I still liked it.

67 austin healey over here. I'm not actually driving
it right now. Got some work to do on it yet. But I
can't give it up. I love that car and it's so easy to

"This is my last email for the day as we're going to
be driving for 14-16 hours without any stops.
Here's wishing you a safe trip. I'm well acquainted
with marathon drives. Last fall it was Maine to Moab
in 2 days.
And coops again:
"It doesn't necessarily have to have racist
connotations, it goes back to simple white=good,
light, safe and black=bad, dark, dangerous."
I just returned from Bali. I like their approach to
black and white. They have black and white checked
cloth draped all over the place. It's a good karma/bad
karma thing and they see the two shades as balancing
each other out. I'm sure this is oversimplification on
my part but that's the drift I got from it. For them,
I don't think there is any racial motivation.
"Wuss. That's nothing to the time I had a tetanus shot
in one arm, meningitis, cholera and typhoid in the
other and a huge horse needle of gamma globulin in my
butt. I couldn't sleep on either side or on my
back for two nights, not to mention feeling really ill
from that cocktail."
I was looking for this same cocktail prior to my trip
to Bali. I didn't get much of it though. I tried
ordering a few of the above from the pharmacy and the
looks I got were picture worthy. Most never arrived
before I was leaving so I blew them off. Not that I
had a choice. So where were you headed senor Cooper
that required this special blend? Oh, and I have a
newfound respect for bathrooms now. Even miniscule is
fine.
And to Scotch, hope you didn't do too much damage to
require that booster.
That's enough babbling from me.

To answer Jessica's question, I think I'm wearing one of my favourite
articles of clothing at the moment. It's a rugby jumper (not like that Old
Navy crap) of no discernable origin. When people ask me what club it is
I've got no idea as it was one my father had and he couldn't even tell me that.
Nice to see the prodigal arsewipe, Slape has returned. Love you too.
He wrote in #1832...
>So far my American sojourn has been reasonably good.
>I have enjoyed eating different breakfast cereals,
Wonderfully full of sugar, aren't they? Even the "healthy" ones. At least
they taste good, even if the names are a little funny.

Great pickup lines, aren't they? Tell me, do people accuse you of being
English? I got that all the time over there.
>Also, your beer sucks. As does your
>wine, what little of it I've tried.
What about the cheese, my friend?
Well I'm hoping you're teaching those Americans how to play Flaming
Arseholes while you're there. You might want to introduce them to "Soggy
Sao" as well, but I do believe they've got their own version of that.
And sod you too, which is legal now in some states, so thanks to Jessica
who isn't wearing any underpants for pointing that out.
>Careful, Coops. Don't you think that the whole
>good=white, bad=black thing might be based in racial issues?
When you put it in that context it does sound that way. But I think the
connotations of black being bad go way back further than any race related
issues. Try going back to caveman days, where night was something to be
feared because of the unseen. Race probably wasn't an issue for millions of
years, but it is because society has made it so. But even in African
cultures, they'll talk about "dark powers" and such, so is that race
related? The point I was making in my original post on this was that the
fear of darkness (black, night, whatever) goes much further than any racial
stereotype. It's only racial because society say it's so.
Here's an interesting factoid on this subject from The Book Of Useless
Information by Keith Waterhouse and Richard Littlejohn...
"Almost all villians in the Bible have red hair."
I guess I'm one of the bad guys after all.
John B. replied to Megan C.A. with:

Scotch's thought of the day was:

Now I know he has been listening to the new Liz Phair. I think the new
album is being released here next week, but promos and copies of promos
have been doing the rounds since February. Nearly all the reviews centre on
Liz's work with Avril's producers and how detrimental it is to her career.
I've got no idea as I haven't even heard those songs and it'll be hard to
not make a judgement when I do hear them considering what I've read.

Well, but who named Neo Neo? Wasn't that his little online handle on the
network where he was first looking for Morpheus? Perhaps all those names are
handles of some kind - very aptly-fitting handles, sure.
But of course, the "computer network" - ie this world we think we're living
in - should be the one where the handles get used, right? And the other
realm, the one where Zion is, should be the place where people's Truenames
are used.
I think Smith just says "Mister Anderson" because it sounds more foreboding.

Top down, although I admit I've only worn button-up shirts in recent years.
Often I'll just unbutton the top one or two and pull them over my head. But
you all knew I was a little bit unique.
