Subject: Quicky Update
So now I'm doing 4.6 billion years of history in five weeks (NO Problem says
the Prof!!!). Historical geology, the study of rocks. Tests and research
papers and lectures and ROCKS (plus how the universe was born).
I'm hoping to pull a B out of it. I'm so lost in science. Once he started
saying that magnetic polarity reverses at random, I was lost. What the hell
does that mean? The North Pole is at the South sometimes???? ohhhhhhh, my
brain hurts.....
So *my* professor has not said No. I am leaving him presents to try and
tame him. My poor professor has been hurt by very bad women, and is very
afraid of being hurt again. So I treat him like a wild rabbit and leave
little carrots for him. Maybe he'll be able to respond by Fall. I don't
mind working for him, nor waiting. I know he is interested. He is just very
afraid. After all, I am Bethey, and Everyone gets scared of Bethey...Right?
;)
Off to study clay sediments retaining environmental records.... did I
mention I don't much like science?
Fairy Blessings,
Bethey
I'm OK when Everything's not OK
cause it's the Fairies Revenge they say
And I have always been a Fairy.

Brian sed:
"Really, you can probably insert any thing you like at this point. Hamsters,
chicken entrails, large funnels... The first week of its release there
were so many people reading it on the train."
it's funny, my last day in Glasgow i went to this dark, dank, gloomy little
pub and there was a guy on the corner of the bar, nursing a drink and
completely absorbed in The Order of the Phoenix.
or, as my friend MT once said, "Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix
Chicken: Combo Platter #6."
so, i am back from a month in the UK. i did write a load of stuff while i
was there, and if you so wish, you can see some of it here:
http://hejira.u-town.com/archives/index.html
i haven't heard the new Liz Phair yet, outside of a clip on the internet.
i've decided i'm going to crawl into a little hole, put Exile in Guyville on
repeat and wait for the horror to pass. honestly, what the hell did she
think she was doing? doesn't she know she already has the most massive props
from the people who really count? the woman's not made for the Britney
crowd, and she's probably not any good at it. *grumble*
Brian also sed:
"I could have sworn you wrote Jewel SHAVING her pubic hair."
speaking of jewel, yesterday i read a rather amusing article on Slate about
the general hypocrisy of her latest schtick (or schick, as it were):
http://slate.msn.com/id/2085175/
all i have to say is i thought it would be a cold day in hell when i would
be digging Beyonce Knowles more than Liz Phair.

Subject: stand back...
hello my little arty turners,
so many great come-backs nowadays, might as well go with the flow. Only
difference might be - I chance not being remembered, whooops. ;-)
It's been a feverishly busy time for me, but it brought some fruits. I think
I now am a slightly more together lass than beforehand but who knows.
Anyway, what IS up?
Tori taking a break till 2005 at least as Neil said. Neil said hi by the
way. No, actually he didn't, but I did meet him. He drew an Alice Cooper
makeup on my cover of th Last Temptation, yay. Hold on, didn't I post about
it? (*looks at watch*) Nope, haven't posted here in a zillion years at
least.
The last time I was reading this list, the world was going to hell in a hand
basket and now it seems it resides there. The only true realisation is that
actually nothing has changed, because nothing ever changes, so a certain
lesson about life-catastrophies has been learnt, that people survive and go
on with that extra load of awareness inside their heads and that little bit
of trust and naivity less.
Matrix reloaded came and went. It was enjoyed thoroughly with or without its
shortcomings, but hell, I like Notting Hill also so maybe I have no taste.
;-) The movie I'm really waiting for is one that had its premiere here
postponed - a Chinese production "The Hero" by the director of "Hang the Red
Lanterns" (okay, this is a Polish translation of the title so it might not
be that exactly.). I have a hunch it might be a real visula treat. I really
can't complain about the West getting saturated with delicious eastern
aesthetics (vide the Matrix). Bring it on. I saw "Spirited Away" and loved
it - I was one of two people in the room! Where has everybody gone? Oh yes,
they're watching "Too Fast and Too Furious".... :B
Speaking of motion pictures and the visual media... I haven't been able to
see the taxivision contestants. My Quicktime exploded when I tried to
install number 6. ka. boom. Too bad, I do seem to have other important
things than upgrading my software.
In other news, I'm still a working musician, I'm writing, recording and
praying (three basic activities of the Independant). Also have a CD out,
"Between Miss Scylla and a Hard Place" at CDbaby and some new songs on
Iuma, and...er...a new homepage? Yes. And all that good stuff. check it out
if you so please. http://gabrielakulka.prv.pl
As for Tori, again, i was secretly hoping she'll do a brief repeat tour of
Europe, which is crazy, of course, she's been on the road for ages now,
hasn't she? I saw her in Poznan this winter. The year has generally been
rich in wonderful concert experiences. Peter Gabriel in Poznan. Iron Maiden
in Katowice.
Unfortunately not going to see Bjork, but what the hell. You can't always
get what you want.
Boy. This was random.
all good wishes to you all.
hope I'll have time enough to rejoin the list properly.

Thanks to Bethey for posting the Michael Moore letter.
Brian said:
> the fear of darkness (black, night, whatever) goes much further than any

Absolutely. As some comedian pointed out once, few if any people are
really black or white. Some are brown (in various shades, dark brown to
yelllow) and some are pink. I think the reason the pinkish people got
labeled "white" (which has positive connotations) and some of the darker
brown people got labeled "black" (negative connotations) was because the
pinkish people were mostly in charge.
Beth said:
> *nodding enthusiastically* I think that's a good way of looking at it.
There's an element of "the grass is always greener" about it. Some people
in LDRs think all their problems would be solved if they lived closer
together. Some people in "live-in" relationships wish (sometimes silently,
sometimes not) that the other person would move at least a little farther
away.
The only reason my marriage lasted as long as it did was that we had
different days off from work, so each of us got at least one day a week
when we could pretend that we lived alone.
> Did you see the first "Matrix?" Would "Reloaded" have made sense if you
> hadn't seen it?
Did it make sense even if I had seen it? :-)
Seriously, I think with a multi-mega success, it's probably a reasonable
assumption with the sequel that most people will have seen the original,
especially now in the era of video and DVD. I think it was correct not to
have a recap at the start of The Two Towers, for example.
I think that's different from releasing a movie where you (perhaps) have to
see a different movie, or TV show or video game to understand it. That may
be an artistic choice, but it smells of marketing. It's done all the time
in comics. A lot of people buy "Starman" (for example). Not too many
people buy "The Blue Frisbee." So, you orchestrate a six-issue cross-over
story which goes back and forth between the two titles for three months, to
get all the "Starman" people to at least sample "The Blue Frisbee."
> I think Smith just says "Mister Anderson" because it sounds more
> foreboding.
>From a moviemaking standpoint, that's undoubtedly true. That was my
favorite moment in the trailer, as I think I mentioned.

...but myself keeps slipping away.
Hola mes amies,
I want to kill my email provider. They've allowed these new-wave pop-ups that you CAN'T FUCKING CLOSE to completely cover the fucking screen and attempt to make you click on them in a fruitless attempt to get them the fuck off your screen. ARGH! I hate pop ups. I hope that the person who created that pop up and the person who authorized that pop up get bitten by rabid weasels. Grr!
...Or maybe I'm just angry because I'm listening to NIN. It's impossible to listen to some of their songs and NOT get pissed off. I dunno, but I was fucked up yesterday in a horrible way and I guess some of that is carrying over to today.
You see, in 8th grade gym class, we did a gymnastics unit that I hated and loathed. They put us all in the gym and the teacher told us that we had to be doing gymnastic-y things during the entire period, or else we'd get an F for the day. So I decided to attempt to use the horse. And I hated it and during my 389724th attempt to completely jump it, my foot got caught on the edge of it and I ended up landing on the back of my head.
I suppose I should be thankful I'm not paralyzed, but what DID happen was that I got a concussion and a mild hemotoba (sp?), which is when a whole bunch of blood all goes to this one place and stays there, creating a bump. The blood solidified and I had a small bump on the lower right side of my head from then on, which never really bothered me that much because I could still lay on my back or side without ever being bothered by it.
This was in 8th grade. I'm a sophomore in college now. And the bump has gotten bigger and it has moved. And to this I say, what the fucking fuck!
Now my head kinda hurts when I lie on my back. I notice the bump now, which I never did before, and it seems to have decided to try and crawl upwards a bit. I don't think that random bumps should decide to MOVE ACROSS THE SKULL like some fucking cancer with legs. And I ended up somehow hurting yet another section of my skull yesterday, too, although I'm not sure how, so now it even hurts MORE to lie the fuck down.
I dislike it when sections of my body betray me. It pisses me off, Nine Inch Nails aside. So now I'm sitting here and I can't NOT think about whether or not anything's wrong with me, whether or not it's normal for hemotobas to scurry up and down someone's skull, whether or not I'll need surgery, and whether or not I'll be the same, afterwards, if I do.
I guess being affected in the brain is one of my biggest fears, because I've devoted my entire life to improving my brain, becoming smarter and more creative and learning, Learning, LEARNING! I really haven't done anything with my body. It's been all in my mind where I've been doing the mental push-ups, the crunches, the leg-lifts. And I don't ever want my brain to be hurt, ever, because my brain is one of the things that makes me who I am.
God, what am I going to do when I'm 60 and my body REALLY decides to pay me back for the neglect I've given it throughout the years. God. And I'm pissed off in a worried kinda way. Especially because I am reminded that I'm mortal. That I'm gonna die. And that very few people will be affected by my death in the long run.
Of course, I'm not going to die anytime soon and this is a very small thing that's wrong with me, but it's still something wrong that I cannot help and I want it to be RIGHT again, you know?
So, being in the morbid, pissed off, what-the-fuck mood I'm in right now, I have a question for you all: What do you believe happens when you die?
How many on the list believe in Heaven and Hell? How many in reincarnation? How many here believe that we just blink out, like a puff of wind on a candle, and that's all there is, folks?
What do you guys believe? Where do we go when we die? Do any of you know? Does anyone, ever, know?
How Now, Brown Cow?

megan: what is a lychee? what does it taste like? did you buy it at a random
grocery store that I can find here in oregon like safeway or albertson's? i
want to taste it. i'm all about summer fruit like peaches, cherries, plums
and nectarines. today i was eating cherries outside and reading cosmo sex
tips. I was thinking, the only thing that would make this better would be if
i was HAVING sex at this moment. oh, well. patience, jessica, patience.
bethey, what's up with professor love?
kh/winter: what's your favorite episode of the sopranos? mine is college
tour. i don't know if that's the exact title but tony takes meadow on the
tour of colleges in maine. yeah, it's great. he takes her to one and there's
this amazing quote by someone on the wall. wow, wasn't that specific of me?
i forgot the quote and even who said it but it was amazing applicable to the
episode. i just saw the episode where carmela kisses the interior decorator.
that was a great one too. damn, i should start a sopranos list or find one
on topica.
brian, thanks for answering my favorite clothing question. :) ok, so any
pair of levi's wins for me especially if they're the 515s or the new type 1
which some of my friends told me make my ass look good and ANY pair that
makes your ass looks good needs to be bought. actually, anything period that
makes your ass look luscious need to be purchased.
ok i think we need to have a conversation about tipping. i tip on my mood
and there are some things i won't tip on like bartenders. how hard is it to
make a drink or take the cap off a beer? i honestly wish i knew how much
they made so i could tip based on that. does this make me sound like a
biotch? oh and if i get bad service i will absolutely NOT tip. what the fuck
is the point? anyway, yesterday two of my friends and i went to olive garden
(world's best restaurant) and we spent $44 all together and had wonderful
service. so we tipped the waitress about $11. someone told me it was too
much but she does have to live. i just contradicted myself but
anyway...opinions welcome.
ok, next topic for convo. my friend has been dating her boyfriend 8 months.
she refuses to go down on him but get this: they share toothbrushes. what
the fuck? isn't that silly? then again, i have no qualms about going down on
a guy but using someone's toothbrush is gross. i don't why i think it's
gross though. why do we have sex with people and then shut the door when we
pee? why do i shut the door when i'm home alone? who knows....it's probably
just habit.
the questions that are plaguing me...god i think i spelled that wrong. :/

I liked the Revolution a lot (the only band he ever had which actually
seemed like a band), but the band in Sign of the Times kicks ass,
especially Sheila E ("pretty good, for a girl," as Prince says). Now that
I think of it, I need to watch/listen to that again.
