>>What do you guys believe? Where do we go when we die? Do any of you
know? Does anyone, ever, know?
I know for ME. Before I came to earth for the physical experience, I was
part of the supreme energy (that which people call God). We were all parts
of that energy, split off to learn what the physical was about. Some people
want to get the experience in many, many lifetimes. Some people decide on
their first trip to believe in nothing and their energy is just gone when
they die. I personally think I took all my experience for one trip, and to
be here on earth in these last days. When I die, my energy will join up
with all the other energies, and then....
Maybe go make a new universe. Maybe sit on clouds and drink tea with Gandhi
and Einstein and talk about what we learned. Maybe even more. All I know
is that I am eternal, and I will remain eternal. Everyone should know that
about themselves. Oh, wait, I guess organized religion would frown on my
ideas, huh?
I love how they just found this new planet and completely screwed up
everything I've learned the past two weeks. So if the Universe is 14
Billion Years old and it takes 7 billion years for the first star to
supernova to create planets, then where the hell did that big ass planet
come from 13 billion years ago????
I have to test on this Monday. Erg! I hate science!

This makes the Spinal Tap movie look funnier than I dreamt possible!
For other funnies - Succubus Megan poo-poo'ed her e-mail provider, well,
guess what, here's something painfully on-topic: our entire e-mail provider,
probably the second largest in Poland, got labelled under 'SPAM' by the
Mighty AOL. Every single of those thousands of e- mails sent from wp.pl to
the aol'ers returned to you after 4 or 5 days with a bunch of error
messages. Cool, isn't it? I can almost picture these e-mails between the
wp.pl people to the US, trying to straighten things out. "Poland! Yes,
Poland, y'know... the little... the...no, it's not an isle in the Pacific,
it's... yes next to the former USSR. Nope, we don't use the cyrillic
alphabet...."
Y'know, we back you up in iraq and that's how you return the favour! (joke!
JOOOOKE! no, reallly! Rea....)
What is NOT a joke is that I'm listening to Yoko Ono.
*deep breath*
Today I've been told that the words "the latest CD", "bought" and "Yoko
Ono" don't exist in the same sentence but (*insert Cartman expression*)
~"screw you guys!". I got a "Blueprint for a sunrise" a week after
purchasing a vinyl of "Double Fantasy". I really enjoy what she does. The
funny things I am partly able to explain what kind of musical experiences
enabled me to probably pin down the core of what's most valuable to me in
her music. I know I wouldn't be able to listen to her if it weren't for:
Kate Bush's "Dreaming", Diamanda Galas' "Plague Mass" and Patti Smith's
"Horses". It's almot that simple.
Life is short. Money is limited. I'd rather waste both of those on Daring
Crap than on Safe Crap.
Speaking of music, I was able (after a winamp DOWNgrade) to install a pretty
funny plugin. It updates a list of recently played songs to your website,
practically live. So here's mine, if you feel like checking. ;-) Look for
those Britney Spears hidden tracks. Yesh!

Subject: Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie's childen would rule the word
After coming home from work wednesday night to find my house without
power from the storm earlier that day, I kidnapped my boyfriend and took
him to see Pirates of the Caribbean. Sure, it's a disney movie. Sure, I
was preparing myself for the worst. But I had faith in my Johnny Depp. I
mean besides being fucking gorgeous, when has he ever been in a
completely horrid movie? Why practically never! Think about it. Ed Wood?
Icabod Crane? Gilbert Grape? The man is a genius. Anyway, the movie was
great. I tad on the long side, but extra Johnny never hurts. Just the
right amount of camp. Not too much disney flavored cheese. Decent fight
scenes. And a crazy, crazy monkey. Geoffrey Rush's acting, Orlando
Bloom's mustache, and Padme Amidala's ex-decoy making a dent for herself
is a nice bonus. We had a good crowd, too. Ya know the ones I'm talking
about. Cheering when the heroes come on screen, boo-ing the bad guys,
clapping at the end. I love that stuff. So, I've seen most of the big
blockbusters that have come out this summer and this is the best so far
in my opinion. That is until Tomb Raider. Holy Shit, folks. Angelina,
that's all I have to say. On a Tori note, I finally watched all the
Taxivision videos and was stuck between the animated one, and the one
with Tori driving the taxi at the end. I finally decided I loved the
idea of all the random people and the way they kinda pass through our
lives like that. We've all got our different destinations. Or maybe I
just like the idea of Tori driving a taxi? I dunno. What do you think?

That is certainly something you don't see here - people reading books in
pubs. Usually they're either talking or getting plastered. Or both.
On Liz Phair...
>honestly, what the hell did she think she was doing? doesn't she know she
>already has the most massive props from the people who really count?
From what I've read, she's doing what she wants. If Liz wants to be a pop
princess, who am I to judge? Who are the people that really count? "Exile
In Guyville" won critical acclaim, but how often have we thought the
critics have got their heads firmly planted up their butts? Ten years ago,
Liz stood out from the crowd by wanting to be "your blowjob queen". Fast
forward ten years and Liz has got married, had a kid, been divorced and is
learning how to be single all over again. Her life has changed dramatically
and while she can still be sexually explicit, her focus is completely
different. Is anyone exactly who they were ten years ago? Being the same
age as Liz, I can really see where she is coming from.
If you can get past the pop sound, there is actually some meat in her
songs, but after all that even I can't say I'll be playing this album
constantly. In a similar vein, I hated Hole's "Celebrity Skin" when it
first came out as it sounded like a complete sell-out. A couple of years
later when I listened to it I recognized it for what it was - a well
crafted pop album.
Gabriela returned and told us:
>Tori taking a break till 2005 at least as Neil said.
Oh great, another tour where we miss out completely.
Megan C.A., or anyone else that has a pain in the head, go and see a doctor
about it. I cannot stress this highly enough. Lumps, bumps and haemotomas
don't go wandering around on their own.
And in answer to your question about an afterlife, I guess you go out like
a candle in the wind. It really boils down to what belief system you have
and who's to say anything's right?

>ok i think we need to have a conversation about tipping.
One of my pet hates when travelling abroad. It's not part of the Australian
culture as everyone gets paid a living wage. Of course, what's considered
fair for living is another story, but tipping is completely optional and is
generally done to reward exceptional service or get rid of small change.
Not being used to tipping, I had a wonderfully good meal in Nepal and kept
handing over these bills full of zeros on them as tip. Then I thought about
it and took some back. Then I really thought about it and realized their
currency was worth shit anyway. In India you couldn't get anything done
without tipping. You'd go into a bathroom, do your business and there'd be
a guy there turning on the taps at the sink for the standard 10 rupee note.
I think I can manage that myself but again, it's such a poor country.
Now the U.S. of A.. Tipping is part of the culture, why I don't know. I've
received worse service there regularly than here and everyone expects their
cut. We're not talking a few cents either. What really annoys me is when
you get bad service and they include the tip on the bill, then you have to
argue vigorously to convince them they don't deserve it. I've even received
dirty looks for tipping 10% of the bill and I thought the service was
average. If the tipping culture is all about making up for pathetic wages,
why don't these workers get organized and stand up for themselves? It's not
as if it's a poor country.
In a fair world, tipping should only be for exceptional service.
What's gotten up Scotch lately?...

A lychee is about the same size as a small testicle, but if only that testicle had a bumpy, bright-red skin that you could peel off with your fingers to a smooth, white center.
It tastes kinda like the sweetest member of the onion family (meaning it *feels* like a cooked onion in your mouth when you eat it), very strong and strangely sweet with an acidic aftertaste of yumminess. Lychee chews are also very delicious. And I could only find them in the Chinese Grocery Store in the Strip district in pittsburgh. So go to a chinese grocers, and you might find them.
Today I am in a less pissed-off mood and more of a lie-around-and-don't-do-anything mood. So friggin lazy.
I watched Dancer in the Dark yesterday and got extremely, extremely upset because it was so friggin SAD and he LOVED her and then he HUNG UP and I just started crying like sea turtle who just lost her one true love and DAMMIT! I'll never see it again. It was just...damn. Upsetting.
I also made soup that had whole baby squid floating around in it amongst the tofu and seaweed. Not too good, since I didn't add enough chicken flavoring and so the entire thing tasted like iodine. Blech.
But I like my new rice cooker. Just gotta get better rice is all.
Au revoir, mes amies.

Subject: Tickets for Virginia Beach 8/28
Hello-
I am trying to sell some Tori tickets for the Virginia Beach show on
8/28. Do you or ANYONE need tickets?
I bought some better seats and I need to sell the first set of tickets I
bought. I don't live there, so I am trying to sell these before I come
for the concert. The tickets are Section 103 Row E and are fairly close
to the aisle where secton 103 and 102 meet. Email me if you are
interested. Please pass on my email to ANYONE you know that wants
tickets. I have 4 of them all together and would like to sell either 2
or 4 of them. The shipping will be free!
Thanks,

Limelighters actually. And a bit of Rolf Harris. And some Russian Red
Army Chorus too for measure...
and there's a couple of revolution songs in the mix...
Anyways got me to thinking about folks in north america... Not those
who've been here for a while (more than 500 years) but us late comers.
I should start with the warning this is all personal opinion, made with
the briefest of forethought and an (unfortunate) minimal level of
research.
We came here for a variety of reasons. Some came because we had to. Some
came because of new riches.
But the strongest majority (as far as I can tell) came to a new life.
Free from the old wars - from the old lands, arguments and such. And some
(as always) brought them with them.
Freedom seems to be the most important thing here. I don't know what it's
like in other countries though.... all I've got to compare to is my
family's memories of Holland.
Anyways, it strikes me that the US civil war - and their (failed) invasion
of Canada - were all massively painful to a lot of people at the time.
The US civil war - something that's routinely happened in most countries
around the world for eons - hit particularily hard. Relative to some
wars it was fairly tame, especially since civil wars can be the bloodiest.
What hit hardest was that it happened. It was the kind of war that was
supposed to have been left in "the old country" whichever one that was.
And the US invasion of Canada? From the US side it seemed that our
(Canadian) refusal to be part of their country was a blow too. Why would
we not want what they fought for? So they came up here to liberate us
too... and were shocked to find the people here didn't want their
"liberation".
Now I don't mean that in a harsh cynical light (like I normally do :) - I
think they honestly believed they were liberating. (not like now)
Our fascination with the abstract "freedom" seems to come from this..
How do you feel about freedom? Do you even know what it means?
I'm not entirely sure myself. It's one of those abstracts...
Something to think about though - what do you carry from your family's
past? What hopes? what angers? frustrations? dreams?
it's a strange train of thought for me - but the music started it rolling.
But I wonder. For those of us who sacrificed our past in the name of a
new life - how can we rebuild the strengths of community? Of family?
ah well. I suspect this whole email is more confusing out there - but I
don't know what meanings I'm missing, what sentances I've skipped or words
even.
wandering off thoughtful
G'day, eh? :)

Hi, Everyone,
Alright already, I know it's time to pick a winner. This decision has
just been such a difficult one. I've been playing the videos over and
over again hoping the easy answer would come to me. But that has yet
to happen and they keep telling me I can only choose one video and I
need to do it soon.
Obviously I've had the people in my life giving me their input on which
video should win, people who make videos for a living, people who
represent all sides of the spectrum. In the end I managed to narrow it
down to four. My favorites had an equal amount of supporters from the
professional side cheering them on, people whose expertise varies from
lighting to content to editing, etc. So I tried to change the rules,
but they told me I was only allowed to have a top three. Ming-Shian
Wang's video was part of my final four so I wanted to acknowledge her
efforts. As for the top three, I think all of them affected everyone
on my side of things in different ways...
#3 Lee McCaulla
People who have been on the art directing side of my career fell in
love with Lee's video (some thought it could be first).
#2 Barclay Deveau
This one got everyone's emotions going. The lighting was heaven.
#1 Susan Hebert
But in the end I felt that on every level this one delivered.
Congratulations. If you haven't already seen Susan's video, please
take a look. I'll have it up on my web site for the next month for
everyone to check out.
-Tori
PS -- I'd like your input on some songs that you might want to hear
live on the Tour. Stay tuned this week to http://www.toriamos.com for
