brian, there really is no point in taking a picture of my groin. it's just
an inner thigh. it doesn't hurt anymore at all which worries me. what if i
run and injure it again? i have an appt on monday with guido, a personal
trainer. sounds like a mafia guy that's gonna kick my ass into oblivion of
pain. maybe he'll be terribly hot and from guatemala or something.
anyway so i got a brazilian yesterday because i can. it was good, slight
pain. i feel hot and sexy and anytime you feel hot and sexy, your life is
better. i showed 5 people in my house. my friend got her clit pierced over
christmas break so i showed her my wax and she showed me her piercing. good
times, good times.
people in my house are driving me crazy. i told this girl yesterday to fuck
off. it felt refreshing, like a can of sprite.
anyway, so, no pictures to provide but i'm sure that's better for everyone.

Which I've also heard, at least in early FCC field tests. In the US,
DTV (and especially HDTV) is largely being marketed as a cable and
satellite medium...OTOH, at the local electronics maximegalomart,
reception of stations up to 100 km away (in Fayetteville, receiving a
Fort Smith station) using a smallish UHF antenna inside the store (a
metal-roofed and -framed building), seemed to work OK; this was during
a hot clear summer day though.

Or you've just got (a) a wimpy antenna and/or (b) filthy AC power,
which is why there's typically this big rack of $400 power conditioners
next to the HDTV displays in the stores. These aren't just surge/spike
protectors: the fanciest claim to digitally reconstruct the AC waveform.
If you've got a scope, look at the AC power wave (carefully!). You
might be "shocked" at what you see.
I'd try a new antenna first, outside preferably, with a rotator. If
you must use an inside antenna, mount it on a stand which can be freely
moved, away from your TV. Make sure you have good transmission lines
(baluns, channel gates, muxes/demuxes, grounding blocks with lightning
arrestors, heavy-gauge, fully shielded coax cable--no cheap-ass
twin-lead, please--and an inline signal amp *only* for long runs) as
well; a mediocre antenna with a good hook-up will almost always work
better than a top-end antenna with a crummy hook-up.
During a storm here analog TV reception gets turned completely inside
down, upside out and bass-ackwards anyway (one time the picture had
inverted colors and was *sideways*, and it sounded like Donald Duck on
angel dust--shortly before a tornado turned the broadcast tower into a
giant metal pretzel), so the loss of a picture would be, if anything,
an improvement.
Of course, given our awful TV here, the loss of a picture would be an
improvement most of the time. Especially Fox News.
	Estraven.

CD Reviews

Tori Amos

Tales of a Librarian

UNLIKE MANY "GREATEST Hits" compilations, Tori Amos' Tales of a Librarian
does not come across as a cop-out in the face of a lack of new material,
but rather as a personal revisitation to beloved aspects of a long-running
career. Described in her own words as a "musical autobiography", Tales of a
Librarian features 20 songs taken from her seven prior albums, all of which
were personally enhanced to appear on Tales.

Set up to span sections in a library, the album includes such memorable
tracks as "Crucify" (230 Christianity and Christian theology, 234 Salvation
and Grace), "Silent All These Years" (410 Linguistics, 414 Phonology), and
"Playboy Mommy" (610 Medicine and Health, 618 Miscarriage).

With these overt references to the subject matter of each song, not only
does the album provide the type of musical learning experience that only
Tori Amos is capable of delivering, but it also allows for a window into
the mind and thoughts of a very private artist.

Also included in the "collection" is a DVD featuring live performances,
additional audio tracks, and a photo gallery. The great thing about the DVD
is that both the performances and audio tracks present songs that do not
appear on the CD (with the exception of "Mr. Zebra", which appears on
both). The DVD also provides an additional "glimpse" into the artist, as
the performances are taken from her sound check, and depict Tori playing to
an empty arena.

As is often the case with this type of album, if you already own her
previous efforts, the CD alone-aside from the remastering of each of the
tracks-offers nothing new. However, if you are a die-hard Tori Amos fan, do
not let a little repetition deter you; the DVD, although not an extensive
feature, is enough of a justification to purchase this album. -CH

Subject: One time. At band camp.

It's cricket season. No, it's duck season. Cricket season! No, I'm not
talking about insects that rub their legs together to make noise, I'm
talking about the sport the English introduced to their colonies so they
can get beaten by everyone. The English aren't here this season, but we do
have India who have been giving us more competition than any other team in
recent years, except maybe for New Zealand.

Back to India. Their captain's name is Ganguly and every time I hear his
name I just start singing, "Ging Gang Gooly". It's either that or say, "He
got him in the gang-goolies". But Ging Gang Gooly is a song I learnt at
camp when I was a kid. There's another guy at work who does the same thing,
but everyone else stares at us. I thought everyone knew that song, but
apparently not. I did a brief search for it on the web and found it on a
scouting site in the U.K., but couldn't see any references in the U.S. Is
it a song that's treated in the same way as cricket, as only in former
British colonies?

Is there anyone here south of the border, as in Melbourne, Victoria,
Australia? I'll be heading down that way for a week of work from February 9
to 13, so if anyone wants to do a meet and greet, let me know. Hmmm... I
just realised I fly home on Friday the 13th.

If there are any computer nerds out there who have managed to get Photoshop
CS (version 8) to run on Windows XP Pro on an NT 4 domain for users with no
local administrative rights, I really want to talk to you. It's an XP
security issue and the trick I've been using with Photoshop 5.5 no longer
works.

my jaw hurts. stupid bruxism. but I didn't start yapping on here to whine
and complain! oh no, I didn't, nope! sorry to disappoint. :D I started
yapping on here to reply to some reptilian replies and free my emailbox of
its burden.. SO.. on with the replies!

Kerri said of Tori about 25 digests ago: "she seems jaded, a cubic
zirconium carbon copy of herself. i no longer feel a connection with her
music, she's distant from the listener.."
I still do, but I think I follow you anyway. I'm still in the angsty
stupid 20-something stage of my life, so I'm listening to a lot of her
earlier work (can we say "here. in my head"?) along with punk rock (the old
and new. it is NOT dead, damn it!) and stuff like Marilyn Manson and so
on.. shocking, yes?

Brian said: "I'll certainly take on board your thought about how you won't
see famous women in public without their makeup, so it's a lot easier to
cover flaws which in turn does skew public perception. But you can find
unattractive male personalities that use makeup - Alice Cooper for example."
am *I* the only one who wants to see women WITHOUT MAKEUP? I'm
serious. Tori, Britney, Christina Aguilera.. for starters. not that Tori
wouldn't look good without it (anybody ever seen that pic where she had on
a little soul patch and otherwise looked like a man?)

Brian then said: "Yes Cyndi, that was a really old reply."
thank you, thank you. I dare you to do worse. :D

"*** I Came Real Close To Seeing Elvis, But Then My Shovel Broke digest ***"
     HA! good one.

Gabs said: "Hello me hearties."
...... have you been watching the Wiggles as of late? I have. blame it
on my 16 month old niece. she LOVES the show. WE have TiVo. her mommy and
daddy don't have cable.. what do WE do? set up TiVo to record the Wiggles
and then put it to tape. what does that do? makes Bailey Anne a happy
little squirt and plant their freakin' songs in my head. x_X but it's worth
it to see her dance along with their songs.

Gab's opinion of TOAL: "Should have been called "Tales of a Sound
Engineer's Wife", though."
HA! you'd think she'd call it that, wouldn't ya? lol..

Bethey shared her idea with us of sending her daughter's friend (the
fighting military girl) Christmas ornaments.. GO BETHEY! *applauds*

Bethey then told us that she just can't kill herself.. good job. in my
opinion, the reason why you can't do that is because you've still got stuff
to do in this lifetime.. ya know, like keep me from climbing the walls and
going batty, for one. :D John also expressed gratitude for this.. and I
have to agree with him.

Nell and Jessica: happy way-too-belated birthday. :) I hope they were good.

Bethey on TOAL: "The way it jars me out of the dream of "Way Down"
is way down cruel."
good lorrrrrrrrd, my thoughts EXACTLY! ... until I got used to it and
started anticipating it instead of being thrown off completely by it.

I thought all the songs were awesome. the only thing I REALLY didn't like
was how the redone Crucify doesn't sound as bare and... throat-gripping as
the original. I mean.. you know that little whine from guitar feedback that
occurs when Tori sings "then I get afraid of what that could bring"? that
was Crucify coming out of my speakers, grabbing me by the throat and
gleefully slamming my head against the wall. Unfortunately, Tori taught her
some manners. :P

and Paula, happy BEEEEEEEEELAAAAAAAAAATED birthday to you too. :)

Jim, my thoughts are STILL with you and Judy. I hope she's recovering well.

Brian talked about an editing system.....: "But speaking of that fat
bastard, I saw something today that I'd lick his hairy sac for and that was
a standard definition PC card TV receiver on a flat panel monitor. I don't
think I've ever seen a picture that clear before. The potential of real
time video editing from a digital source all the way through to DVD quality
output is something to get excited about if you're into that sort of thing.
It's not quite on the market yet, but it's the shit. Cyndi - you'll cream
yourself when you see this stuff."
well I've not SEEN it yet, but I'll bring an extra pair of underwear
with me just in case....

one thing that irks me in general (I'm not seeing much of it here though)
is how many people complain about Scarlet's Walk material not being on
TOAL..... well, it'd be there if SW weren't an Epic release.. that's for
sure.. and if it WERE an Epic release, believe me, and Your Cloud weren't
on it, I'd be pitching a fit. :D

Jes'ca, happy uber-belated birthday to you as well.

Simon said: "by the way- I recently finished reading Arthur Clarke's "3001"
(fourth and last book in the Odyessy series), and with the ongoing theme of
goings on with Jupiter and its moons, I was reminded of Cyndi's use of a
pic of Callisto as the full moon on her site :) Fitting to use a Jovian
moon on a Tori-themed page ;)"
well, don't get too attached to it. by sometime mid February (trying
to coincide with the 15th--the day Hey Jupiter and Tori threw themselves
into my life) my page will have a redesign. :D

Simon to Linda's mention of Angels when she downloaded it: "You're
referring to the parallel universe version of the album. The Scarlet's
Walk from *this* dimension is a quantum leap of perfection beyond the
infinite."
no, it's just the version that the record labels leaked out to us to
keep us away from the goodies until the GOODIES came out. ;)

Simon to me: "cyndi- were you able to save anything from the crashed drive?"
I'll find out when I get a new computer. the current one is dead. the
motherboard fried somehow.... *grumble*

happy way belated birthdays to Angela, Jim, and Joanna. :)

oh, and.. happy belated NEW YEAR! :D

Teunis the Winterlion said: "I -have- missed you all but I've been finding
/self/ whereever it dissappeared to. More on that below. Replies first :)"
any luck? ;) it might be sitting right next to me for all you know. or
maybe we swapped selves and didn't know it yet? (I've been doing
self-exploration for the last six months, myself.. it's EXHAUSTING!)

he then gave me words of encouragement with trying to start up a band....
THANK YOU VERY much. it's appreciated. :) as well as with everyone else and
their replies. it's very much appreciated. :)

Cheefooska said: "cindy s. crawford, it's such a bummer that we're sOoOo
far because i'm a good singer & play the piano & i'm actually feeling like
being in a band too this year... ÆsighÆ"
well.. pack up your shit and GET DOWN HERE THEN! >:)

Brian said: "Way back in digest 1884, Cyndi wrote: >TEENK HAPPY TAWTS!

I had to look twice at that one. I could have sworn it said "teenk happy
twats!". Nothing wrong with a happy twat."
yeah.. but what MADE the twat happy? :D

happy not-so-belated birthdays to Elizabeth and Mikewhy! I hope they were
fabulous.. :)

Brian gave me more advice with my "I wanna start a bannnnnnnd!" dilemma..
thank you Brian and everybody else. *kiss!*

...then he said: "If you're looking for a new instrument to play, I've got
a one holed flute you can blow on anytime."
would you care describing the sound it makes when blowed on? :D

THANK YOU also, John. :D

okay, all the digests went buh-bye now.. SO on that note, I've got a sorta
philosophical and curious question.

what are your thoughts on reincarnation?

Sincerely, Cyndi S. Crawford
"I know we're dying / and there's no sign of a parachute / we scream in

Subject: The Alternative Star Wars

When my Son was five years old (in 1977), we took to him to see Star Wars.
It altered his entire life. John has seen Star Wars probably 60 times by
now and Star Wars book (along with Star Trek books) line his bedroom walls.
This is a testimony to his obsession to Star Wars. Star Wars is a fairy
tale where the good people win even under overwhelming odds. Each time we
watch the movie we know how it will come out and it becomes a metaphor of
life where in the end all ends well.

In 1979 we took Judy and John to see Star Wars at an outdoor theater. Judy
was not much into seeing Star Wars again and sort of fell asleep. Just to
keep John interested I told John that this may be the Alternative Star Wars
secretly filmed to shock audiences. The Empire wins and ends up being the
good people destroying the evil terrorist. There was no celebration at the
end but only business as usual. You may think that this was terrible but at
the time it worked well and John stayed up and watched the movie to the end.
The movie ended the same as the past and the good people won just as it as
happened the other 58 times John saw the movie. I have faith the
Alternative Star Wars does not exist nor ever will just as I have faith my
life will come out well.

We visited Judy last weekend and it was a rather sad occasion. I wish I
could report that she is moving right along with her recovery and all is
fine. Three weeks ago she got an infection and she did not respond to
anything for a week. It was as if she was brain dead again. Last week she
opened her eyes again but stares off into space. She cannot move anything.
All of her motor controls vanished. The most complicated device in the
universe is completely malfunctioning. We cannot see into it and cannot
tell what is going on. We suspect she is aware of us but her body cannot
respond to any commands. She cried when her baby was placed on her lap so
we know she still exist. The doctors do not know why her mind stopped
functioning.

The day after Christmas we had the greatest Christmas present when Judy
lifted her hand. She had progressed to moving her hands and pointing to
communicate. All of sudden this happened. But this time it is different.
Judy has lost most of her responsiveness and just stares into space when we
communicate with her. We are still hopeful there will be some recovery but
clouds are gathering. Even before this last relapse they estimated it would
be a year before she could go home. Now her whole future is undefined. We
are thankful that Judy still exist but are fearful of her future. Thoughts
of Judy never regaining motor control or responsiveness and living the rest
of her life in this condition race though our minds. Our body really is a
tool of our brain. The thought that living life without any control over my
body terrorizes me.

In my last post I defined my attitude on Judy as watching Star Wars and
having absolute faith that there will be the celebration at the end. Now my
mind regresses to that outdoor theater and thoughts of the Alternative Star
Wars keep popping up. Worst-case scenarios are taking over. Panic is
taking over my son-in law Larry on how to take care of his wife for the rest
of her life. I have great respect for Larry and his commitment to take care
of Judy the rest of her life no matter what happens. Judy's family will
love her no matter how she comes out.

For years I did volunteer work for the Ebensburg Center near us here in
Greensburg, PA. This is the state institution for the mentally retarded. I
was always amazed on how the parents would visit the retarded patients for
years and loved them even as they were. I never anticipated that I would be
facing the same thing. It is easy to love someone who is pretty of handsome
but what happens when things go bang in the night. This does not seem to be
part of the American Dream.

I need your help. There still can be a miracle. Star Wars can still run
its course and Judy can be fine. Only our prayers and concerns will get her
there.

Have to end.

Jim Mathers

Hey all!

I had my second date with Luke from Harrisburg. He's such a great guy
(although we've decided not to discuss politics at length anymore), and
flatters the hell out of me. One of the fairy pictures he did of me is 17
separate layers of effects. I've never had anyone recognize my wings so
vividly before. I really like him...but... (you knew there was a but in
there, didn't you?)

I told him that I was disappointed that I hadn't fallen head over heels for
him, because it would have made it easier. It would have driven that other
person out of my head and heart. Luke asked, "You are still attracted to
him?" Before any thought went into my reply, I heard my voice say simply,
"I'm in love with him. But he doesn't want me."

How great is Luke? He said that *He* wanted me and would be willing to wait
for the other to fade away, if that ever happens. If not, he's happy with
what we have (which quite frankly isn't much more than a friendship at this
point). He really is perfect for me. I'll try not to be so foolish as to
throw away a good thing for a dream that won't come true. Wish me luck.

Bethey

boobs are not offensive or vulgar and no one should have to pay a fine for
exposing one on national tv. get over yourselves. think of something
important to do like clear channel dominating the world.
