It gets a bit frustrating, thinking RDT is back up and running, then not
having things posted. Oh well, I'm gonna figure Violet's all hung up and
she will be back on it soon.
So John asked about "Tori Amos: Welcome to Sunny Florida":

I got it and have watched it once and listened to "Scarlet's Treasures" 4 or
5 times. Now, I got a fine deal from Sony... The DVD/CD for 14.95, no
shipping cause I bought Roger Water's "Amused to Death" at the same time.
It's good, it's fantastic with having the CD also (6 new songs!!!), but the
DVD is good. It's like being front row of a Tori concert, with fan/band
interviews intermixed, but not so often it takes away the concert feel. My
only complaint is the censoring of Professional Widow. "F*cker" and "C*ck"
are cut with the music playing while her lips move (or they cut away for a
long shot). There is no warning on the package that editing has occurred,
and frankly, it's so obtrusive, they might as well not have done it. Life
changing? Nooo... But having just discovered Roger Waters and Pink Floyd
this year, I'm not a good judge. Having "Pink" flip your life kind of mutes
other experiences.

I tried watching "LotR" a couple of years ago because a friend loved it so
much he bought me a video tape of it. But two hours into it, I confess I
turned to him and said, "Short People on a quest. When does the real story
start?" He said that was the whole story and I turned off the tape and
ended giving it away to someone who loved it. The first time I tried to
read the Hobbit (age 13/14), I gave up after 100 pages because I was so
turned off by the archaic language. I picked it up again a few years ago,
determined to give it a try. I got 125 pages into it and gave up. Same
complaint. Gee, Professor, what else do you know besides archaic terms?
I'm the only person of my bent of mind who can't stand Middle Earth. I
don't know what it is, but I've given up trying.

Seeing her live with Tori killed all my appreciation for her. 4th
row/center seats, and I couldn't bear to sit for her portion of the concert.
I hadn't known I'd need Dramamine for the motion sickness she inspired. I
love her first album, and on occasion like to hear a song of hers, but for
the most part, her live performance ruined her music for me. Or maybe Tori
ruined other performers for me, because I love the hypnotic quality of her
concerts. Give yourself up to the red head and fly away on the notes. I
guess you can do that with the DVD, to finish the original answer (way up ^
^ ^ there somewhere).

Did I miss something? (most probably) Why does your job end and why do you
seem to want it to? If it ends, what do plan to do next?
Personal Update: I took Brian's advice and sent an apology to *my*
professor in case he heard the rumors. I've gotten no reply and I don't
expect to run into him until August, when we have class together. I hope
he's over what ever it is by then, or I don't foresee being able to stay in
his class. And I really want to take this course (Minorities and Human
Relations).
I rescued a turtle last week. It was a big old dinosaur of a Wood Turtle,
trying to cross the road. He seemed to be a bit confused, and his shell
looked fairly battered, so I stopped, ran out, stopped traffic both ways,
then went to pick him up. I didn't know if he was a snapping turtle at the
time, so I grabbed him near the back and picked him up. He had to weigh
nearly 30 pounds, and he whipped me with his tail and thumped his legs so
hard he flew out of my hands and landed on his back. I picked him back up
and waddled to the field and sort of tossed him there. I was asked a few
days later what sort of turtle he was. Since I had no clue, I looked it up
by typing in "Turtles + SE Pennsylvania" into Google. One of the pages I
was sent to had a picture of my therapist's old office on the Delaware
Canal, which shocked me. There was text about the life in the canal, which
is why I was sent there. There was an "Info" link at the bottom of the
page, and when I clicked it, it took me to a page of classified ads.
Ads for everything, including "48 year old male looking for dinner and
dancing companion". I emailed him on an impulse and sent him to my web
page, and he sent me a picture back. He's a beautiful, fit, Italian or
Greek looking gentleman, posing with a Rottweiler. He wanted to meet
immediately, but I told him to tell me something more about himself, and
maybe we can meet next Saturday in New Hope. We'll see what his response
is...like I'm hoping he's not married or anything. Something I've always
been concerned about. My ethics won't allow me to even look at someone who
is involved with another. I just won't. But anyhoo, it seems like fate the
way all this happened. But after my experience last winter with meeting
someone on the internet, I'm understandably cynical and cautious. I don't
trust people as readily, which disappoints me, but is the only way to stay
safe.
But the biggest thing I'm hoping is that my feelings for the professor will
not interfere. After almost a year of no real encouragement, you'd think
I'd be over him. But my heart still longs for him. *sigh*
I didn't have a very good holiday weekend. My doc gave me a new drug on
Friday. I took it on Saturday. 12 hours later, I got a Sulfa allergy
reaction...vomiting, dizziness, and hives so bad some ended up bleeding. My
legs are covered with scabs. I guess I'm fortunate my face and neck didn't
end up as bad, for I had welts all over. I'm also fortunate it didn't go
into anaphylaxis (throat closes up), since that is the reaction I have to
eating fish and bee stings. Needless to say, I didn't feel much like going
anywhere, and less like letting people see me in my welted glory. In the
aftermath, I've lost half of my eyelashes on my left eye, and I've got bald
spots on my head wherever the hives broke out. I sort of look like I'm
recovering from the mange. ;) Moral of the story: Always read pharmacy
warning pamphlets and if it says "Sulfa reaction possible", don't take it if
you know you will react to sulfa. I don't know why it didn't register on me
before I took it. Oh well...for an honor student I can be pretty stupid.
See ya all later. Hopefully in the pages of RDT (Right Now) (the name is
getting to be even more apropos, eh?).
Fairy Blessings,

Subject: A Personality Profile
Hey Gang!
www.eharmony.com has a free personality profile. Lacking anything better to
do, I filled it out. I happen to be pleased with the answers. See if you
agree with the test (well, as well as you can know me).
And if you get bored, go over and see what it says about you. :) If nothing
else, it's a bit of fun.
Peace,
Beth
***Personality Profile***
You have to be with people. This extends into the need to gain popularity,
achieve social recognition and influence those people around you. The
"bottom-line" is a strong people orientation.
You have a strong feeling of optimism, considered favorably by most people
around you. Your perception is that the bottle is half-full rather than
half-empty.
You have a strong sense of humor. You usually know when to lighten a
difficult situation, amuse and entertain people.
Each person has a unique way of communicating. We use a combination of body
language, facial expression, verbal tone and word choice to share ourselves
with others. The following statements offer a look at the natural behavior
you bring to an interpersonal relationship.
You can generate enthusiasm in yourself and in other people. Your
enthusiasm, often contagious, involves many people in a social activity who
might not ordinarily become involved.
One of your great strengths is your ability to communicate and talk readily.
Since all strengths may be overused at times, you may sometimes talk too
much.
You are a natural communicator. You love to talk, offer jokes and make sure
that everyone is having a good time. This trait is especially evident at
functions and outings.
You show sympathy to the feelings and needs of others. Your natural empathy
style may draw others to you.
You have a natural, outgoing style that some have labeled as the "natural
salesperson." You are generally likable, talkative and socially assertive.
Your primary intent is convincing or persuading people.
Many different factors determine the communication styles with which you are
most comfortable. Some individuals thrive on the challenge of pointed
criticism, while others are at their best in a nurturing environment where
criticism is offered as a suggestion for improvement. Each of us has a
unique set of requirements and preferences. Below is a list of communication
styles that will mesh well with your own. Having a partner who understands
and practices these traits is important to your long-term happiness.
Support ideas for change with facts, figures and logic.
Be stimulating, fun-loving, and fast-moving.
Be sincere and use a tone of voice that shows sincerity.
Offer opinions and ideas that are stimulating.
Leave plenty of time for socializing and relating.
Allow time to ask questions.
Talk about expectations.
Take time during explanations.
Share specific ideas to carry out an action.
Plan interactions which support dreams and goals.
Take time to be certain that you reach an agreement.
Following are some of the specific strengths and/or personal characteristics
that you bring to a relationship. These may form the foundations of many of
your friendships and dealings with other people. Some will seem obvious, but
you may be surprised by others. Take a moment to reflect on each and
consider what role it may have played in your past successes, and even
failures.
You like to gather facts and think things over before offering a strong
opinion.
You are optimistic and tend to make others feel good about themselves.
You are usually enthusiastic about activities and planning.
You are very respectful of the needs and wants of other people.
You are generally good at cooling down tense situations in a relationship.
You have an excellent sense of humor and tend to see humor in events
spontaneously.
You are skilled at finding "win-win" solutions when conflicts arise.
You are socially poised and people-oriented.
You are excellent at listening to your partner.
You tend to bring feelings of security and stability to a relationship.
In general, human beings are defined by their needs and individuals by their
wants. Your emotional wants are especially important when establishing with
whom you are compatible. While answering the Relationship Questionnaire you
established a pattern of basic, subconscious wants. This section of the
report was produced by analyzing those patterns. Our wants change as we
mature and obtain our life goals. You may find it valuable to revisit this
section periodically to see how your wants have changed.
You may want:
A support system to help you get things done.
A social environment spiced with change.
Activities involving contact with many people.
Acceptance in a variety of groups.
Social recognition of your accomplishments.
A variety of activities.
Many activities, so there is never a dull moment.
Many and varied activities.
Equal relations with others.
Popularity.
Recognition of skills and ability.
More time in the day for both work and play.

To be a Republican in 2004, somehow you have to believe...
1. Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of
homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.
2. The United States should get out of the United
Nations, and our highest
national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions
against Iraq.
3. "Standing Tall for America" means firing your
workers and moving their
jobs to India.
4. A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her
own body, but
multinational corporations can make decisions
affecting all mankind without regulation.
5. Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a
crime, unless you are a
conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and
you need our prayers for your
recovery.
6. The best way to improve military morale is to
praise the troops in
speeches while slashing veterans' benefits and
combat pay.
7. Group sex and drug use are degenerate sins unless
you someday run for
governor of California as a Republican.
8. If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents
won't have sex.
9. A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our
longtime allies, then
demand their cooperation and money.
10. HMOs and insurance companies have the interest
of the public at heart.
11. Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound
policy. Providing health
care to all Americans is socialism.
12. Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are
junk science, but
creationism should be taught in schools.
13. It is okay that the Bush family has done
millions of business with the
Bin Laden family.
14. Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a
bad guy when Bush's daddy
made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business
with him, and a bad guy
when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden"
diversion.
15. A president lying about an extramarital affair
is an impeachable offense.
A president lying to enlist support for a war in
which thousands die is solid
defense policy.
16. Government should limit itself to the powers
named in the Constitution,
which, of course, includes banning gay marriages and
censoring the Internet.
17. The public has a right to know about Hillary's
cattle trades, but George
Bush's Harken Oil stock trades are none of our
business.
18. You support states' rights, which means Attorney
General John Ashcroft
can tell states what local voter initiatives they
have a right to adopt.
19. What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital
national interest, but
what Bush did in the '80s is irrelevant.
20. Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is
communist, but trade with
China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of
international harmony.
21. Affirmative Action is wrong, but it's fine for
your Daddy and his friends
to get you into Yale, the Texas Air National Guard,
Harvard Business School,
part ownership of Harken Oil, part ownership of the
Texas Rangers, the
Governorship of Texas, and then have the Supreme
Court appoint you President of the
USA.
The scary part of this all is that it is true. Of course, I know you
Republicans will be writing me to tell me how wrong this is. Feel free to
defend your GOP.
Peace,
Bethey
