Beth Coulter: On this "Turtle" guy and interesting meetings...
sounds like something I went through recently. *heh*
Hope things are going well with you there *g*

Didn't work out for me - but I learned a great deal. We had chemistry -
lots of it - but I scare her. oops. Getting tired of that. It's a whole
pile of little things - my "I'll get you next time Gadget, next time!"
voice, my learning how to be "dominant" (both in the naughty sense and in
the sense of being in charge/responsible for oneself - and not losing it),
and a bunch of small fiddly things that turned out VERY important. hrm...
Flip side there's a lady I've known for MANY MANY years that things are
starting to change with... We've been best of friends for more years than I
can remember *g* (feel free to blame the pharm drugs *gah* stoopid
antidepressant side effects) and now things are /changing/. Think I'm
possibly even going to marry her. Very crazy stuff...
Weird times.

and on Brian Cooper's noticing young ladies with unusual names reminding one
of bad songs - I think that's a worldwide thing. sad. Next you know, we'll
be naming kids after Tori songs. *wide grin*. I possibly would - except my
family names after other people in the family so probably not.

and also:

Canada's got it's thorns too - health is OK - as long as you have an income.
Dental is nonexistant. Just finished recovering from some dental work a bit
ago... well again unless you have an income. It's fallen a LOT in the last
20 years.

unless it's -specifically- a health risk not to, I don't take medications.
Had too many bad side effects. examples: Loss of memory, loss of basic
mathematics (permanent *sigh* I've had to relearn from scratch - and this
one still hurts), ability to vibrate any muscle (couldn't stop for close to
two weeks) that kind of thing.

on HIV vaccine: some promise in development *sigh* Lot's of breakthroughs
recently actually, but nothing really /public/ yet. Other than one
experimental treatment that seems to halt it entirely...
Common cold: should have hit the market last year. Went into human testing
in '93. I could probably dig up a reference somewhere - it was a
british lab working on HIV, got frustrated and took a break with
a virus that mutated just as much but much simpler. Cures 70%
(roughly) of all common colds. It's a nasal spray...
Viagra: also research on this came from studying aphrodisiacs... *g*
Synthetically reproduced form of a natural-occuring bark if I remember
rightly.

aside:
> >I fight terror every day. I don't watch Fox News ("Ein Volk! Ein
> >Fuehrer! Ein NewsChannel!").

you got it. From the world leader in propoganda - recently marked off as
the best (and largest) producer of propoganda in recorded history. The
United States of America.

ROFLOL!!!!!

*self* thinks one should get some Tool albums and possibly A Perfect Circle.
I like music and haven't gotten around to it yet.

And on other notes - Canadian political elections are messy. At this point
I'd vote, in order:
- Rhino party (if they had a candidate here *sigh*). Look 'em up, worth
the read. One's looking to rename the Yukon and collect money from
the gov't for the yukon, the other one's campaigning (I think) for
free beer or something like that. The last BC one was campaigning for
abandoning ALL laws and just holding parties everywhere.
- Block Party Bloc - Spoof of Bloc Quebequois. Kind of like a french version
of the Rhinos. *g* Last election - wonder if they're in this one?
- Bloc Quebequois - yes they're seperatists. Other end of Canada. But,
outside of that they're the most /rational/ currently of all the
	parties.
- Conservative - sad 'cause I tend to go socialist. Again, more rational
	but still mudslinging.
- Green Party - everything the NDP -should- be except their policies aren't...
entirely... good.... for economy at this time. They should be.
- Marijuana party - oops that one's BC provincial. Anyways... *g*
- NDP - unfortunately their current leader is /slimy/. Good socialist party.
Be nice to see them stronger actually.
- Liberal - ick. Actually wouldn't vote for them. Their leader hates their
previous leader and their entire campaign is mudslinging.

Actually normally I vote for the rep I like best - but I don't (personally)
know any of 'em here. I miss that actually. Still not actually sure how
I'll vote, but I decided to post 'cause y'all could use a good laugh at some
of the parties we have here...
We don't have a "Silly Part" (see Britain for that) but things CAN get silly
here.

G'day, eh? :)

absolutely right - as well..
actually your letter is very beautiful as well.

Reganomics is a disaster - and it's still followed in Canada for some
bizarre reason. I blame Mulroony - who's currently advising the Liberal
Party of Canada for some reason. Mulroony's a Conservative.

history is a strange thing.
I'll still say he was a good president though. As republican presidents
go. I'll give the current one as an example of a -bad- one for
comparison.

ROFLOL!!!!!

Glad to be Canadian....
Strangely enough, this Canada Day (Jul 1) I'll be going to California,
where I'll spend the next few days at the Antir/West War. (SCA).
First time I'll be out of Canada on Canada day. Gonna feel weird.
I wonder what July 4th (US day) celebrations are like?
btw - yes I know it's not "US day" but that's shorter. And for ME it
feels like the same kinda holiday. Whatever. Can't remember what US
folks call it - but hope y'all down there have a good US-day *g*
and a happy Canada day to all Canadians out there. I know it's a bit
early but I don't know when y'all will see it.

HAPPY MIDSUMMER!!!!!
(or Feast of St John... *g*)

G'day, eh? :)

Hello all you lovely people,

Yes, it's that time of year again (ha ha). It only took me two months to
find something new to write about for my front page essay on my web page.
This time I'm not bashing US policies, well, not entirely. This time it is
about God and respect. Kinda. You know me (well, there are some newbies
here on my list who don't know me, but they will), I tend to tie everything
together. But I'm really focusing this time on the environment. So when
you have a chance, head on over to www.bethcoulter.com and see what I have
to say. And please, let me know your thoughts in return, as always.

Peace in our Lifetime,
Beth

I like the new songs on the CD, but some stand out (so far) over others.

Ruby Through the Looking Glass is very good. I like the way the acoustic
guitar and piano go together, and the lyrics are really good. I can
actually figure out what they're about!

(well, except for that "doesn't every boy smoke to cry?" part. Any
thoughts on that? I'm thinking that it's just there because it
sounded good, or because she realized that the rest of the song was
too easy to figure out)

Seaside is very good also. Very moving music and lyrics. My
tendency is to think that it doesn't refer to a specific time or place,
but it's more general, about what it's like to grow up (or try to) in
the world today.

Bug a Martini I have mixed feelings about. I always react positively
to the appearance of a rhythm section, and this is a killer electric
piano riff, but the lyrics seem like they were written by Austin
Powers.

Apollo's Frock is good. I like the long intro. The "you have
crossed my line" part doesn't sound as imposing as I thought
it should, but then I realized that was the point. It's obvious
that the person in question has crossed that line many times
before, and probably will again.

Tombigbee I like (the rhythm section appears again). Not sure yet
about the lyrics. Seems to involve Native Americans, which is interesting
since the following song is "Indian Summer."

Which is nice, but it hasn't really grabbed me.

Alanis' "So-Called Chaos" is good, but a few tracks stand out so far.

One is "Eight Easy Steps," which is sharp and funny. One critic
called it "self-lacerating," but that's only true if you assume
that Alanis always sings about herself, and this song is obviously
from somebody else's POV (though it winks at herself, too). She
pokes fun at herself more than some people think (her cover of
"King of Pain," playing god in Kevin Smith movies).

"Out is Through" is great, both musically and lyrically.

"Doth I Protest Too Much" is good, though a more secure songwriter
(i.e., almost anybody) would have eliminated the "doth I protest
too much" refrain and let the song lead you to the obvious
conclusion without laying it out explicitly.

"So-Called Chaos" is great, too.

OTOH, "Knees of my Bees" is such a stupid line (let alone hook) that
I can't listen to it, even though the music is good. As one reviewer said,
"she has bees?" Makes "Bug A Martini" seem like Dylan.

Cell phones are definitely little computers these days. Mine got all
messed up and confused the other day and I thought "reboot" and I did,
and it was fine.

At least it's not one of the more modern ones, that are complicated
enough to get viruses. I was reading last week that the first cell
phone virus has appeared.

As B/4,

John

heh - they haven't. We received a letter a while back that went on about the
problems they've had and put it back on teh customer to chase them to make
sure everything is as it should be (ie you have an appointment for the
installation). The other thing is apparently they're no longer saying there
is an installation fee. If they tried charging that to us now I'd kick up a
rucus. Anyway, we haven't bothered trying to sort anything out till after
our holiday (which we leave for on Sat, away for a week. Don't rob the place
;) ). And while there obviously were advantages with the digital, I haven't
minded the delay... if you haven't experienced something you can't miss it.

And after that, it's back to geekdom with a LOTR convention-ette... they're
describing it as a cabaret. Yes, LOTR and 'cabaret' sound like an odd
combination, but so does 'orc' and 'fishnet stockings' :)

Today I tried to get organised a bit for the trip. Got a little bit of
cleaning up done, some catching up on email and some stamping (squee!). Heh,
so much for getting the girls stuff packed. Well, still got two days.

Is anyone else loving the Harry Potter soundtrack? I saw the movie last week
and loved the music and kinda got the soundtrack as a concolation prize for
Tiarna because she wanted to see it too (but I'd heard it was really scary
so I wanted to check it out first). She's actually prefered it to the tv,
which is saying something for her. But I'm still loving it

Anyway, well past my bedtime
