Subject: poking my head above ground...

...to find out I've been transported to Bizarro World--and Bizarro
is one SICK mother.
Megan's story about the gang-rape victim being forced to relive her
torment *publicly* (in a courtroom) under pain of prosecution, as
horrific as it sounds, seems par for the course lately. There's the
one about the Georgetown student who was expelled for, apparently,
FAILING to commit suicide (he's now enrolled elsewhere, and is suing
the university).

	http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5246519

(Note to Mac and Linux users: You'll need a Windows Media-capable
player to listen, and no, Windows Media Player isn't your only choice.)
And then there's the story of the VA nurse getting charged with--are
you ready for this--SEDITION, which means, if convicted, she could be
facing the death penalty (this is wartime, after all) for writing a
memo critical of Arbustus Caesar's (mis)administration after dealing
with a sudden upswing in PTSD cases, some dating all the way back to
World War II! (The exact wording which brought the charge was "act
forcefully to remove a government administration playing games of
smoke and mirrors and vicious deceit", which might be misread as
advocating violent overthrow--the legal definition of sedition. What
she probably had in mind was impeachment or some such.) You can read
more about this latest outrage here:

	http://www.alternet.org/rights/33027/

Still, she *did* misuse government property. After all, these punks
nailed Clinton on perjury: that it concerned a matter (a blow job)
with which the law had no business mattered not one bit.
This on top of the everyday nightmares of torture, Katrina, WMD
lies, illegal wiretaps, stuffing the courts, election fraud (again),
lobbying scandals, Enron (remember them?), de-funding the National
Weather Service, sweetheart deals for Dubai, the Terri Schiavo
debacle, Iraqi civilian casualties, overturning Roe v. Wade, the War
on Science, pissing off the world generally, and on and on and on and
on. But no blow jobs. Praise the Lord.
Really, between this smorgasbord of political psychosis and a
serious case of Storm Deprivation Syndrome, I haven't had this much
fun since my first taste of impending heart disease last October.
It's still a toss-up whether I'll die of (a) heart attack, (b)
torture, or (c) bird flu. Perhaps all at once? Fun-o. My fave fantasy
meanwhile is chasing an F6 superdupermegatwister up the Capitol Mall
as it eats the Pentagon, Congress, the White House, the Saudi
Embassy, and all the scum on K Street for good measure, while all the
dirty little secrets get sucked into the inflow and dispersed
nationwide. I'd be sure to get it all on HDTV and grab the Vortex II
Doppler-on-Wheels and XMWX data feeds as well, for inclusion in
"Tornado Video Classics 2006."

	http://www.tornadoproject.com/products/products.htm#top

After all, tornadoes can't be charged with terrorism, though the
government might be tempted to try. We've already seen more stupid
things, lately.
In other news...About auctioning those Tori singles, Beth: Don't do
it now. If you're not listening to them, keep them (with all
accompanying documentation and packaging, mind) in a safe place until
the market gets better. As with the Pokemon and Beanie Babies crazes,
once the initial rush has passed and the market collapses, people
will discard their collections...and then wish they'd kept them
decades later!
And as for a vegan diet, I may be forced to go on one, for obvious
reasons (see above). I've already given up much of the crap I used to
eat: greasy-spoon burgers and fries, donuts, junk food, "premium" ice
cream, those infamous Allsup's burritos and Denny's breakfasts, and
pretty much anything tasty and/or caffeinated. Plus, I've quit Wal-
Mart, or more precisely, I've been given one more reason to quit Wal-
Mart. Call it the Reduced Evil Diet.
I hope Brad Shultz is satisfied. Just wait until November.
	Estraven.
