On June 18th in 1992, a lot of talk about various releases of
LE (colour and b&w booklets, French edition with an empty box
for the cover [yet to be confirmed, but as anthony suggested, i
suspect someone has just put the booklet in back to front])
In 1995, more and more Hobbes (from and about him). Also, some
brief parodies of Tori songs related to the list and net in
general:
http://www.torithoughts.org/rdtrn/archives/upenn/digest.9506/msg00036.html#9
In 1996, we had the 4th installment of the Bosendorfer article,
a number of DDI reviews, and one member posted:
Tori's song "Professional Widow" is mentioned in the June
17th issue of _Newsweek_ on page 78, under a listing of
songs "that are known--or suspected--" to trash Courtney.
The lyrics, "Don't blow those brains yet/ We gotta be big
boy/We gotta be big/Starf--er just like my Daddy" are quoted.
In 1997, more on the discussion about genocide and culture
[cultural deprivation a better term?] in the US.
In 2001, still discussing the death penalty.
[ =======================> In RDT History <======================= ]
On June 19th in 1994, reports that MTV was using "God" as
backing music for "Real World" ads, and people feeling MAAG is
over-used.
In 1995, more on women and armies and disciplining children,
how to deal with Hobbes, list shirts and subsequent copyright
issues.
In 1996, the August and September dates for the DDI tour were
posted. More books, up coming tv appearances, and following on
from discussion of the "tell me which hand I use" line, and one
member mentioning that they were of the understanding that the
masturbation hand is usually the same hand as for general use
(eg: writing), a member posted:
I think it's funny that people masturbate and eat with the
same hand
In 1999, the begining of the "oriental" vs. "asian" thread, Axl
Rose just won't go away, and depression and medication.

Subject: Still songs with Rain (ufff! it's an endless list...) and a
linguistic help request
Dear All RDT,
Daniel: "Kiss the Rain" is from Billie Myers (I forgot this one Cindy,
sorry...)
Cindy: I really hope your sister gets well. And that everything goes
well with your nephew/niece.
Congrats for your art exam!
I Know a song with rain but it's in portuguese... "Chuva
Dissolvente" (something like solvent rain) from Xutos & PontapÈs.
About cd-copying protection. It's falible, did you know?
Click on the right button of the mouse, and then choose explore. Copy these
items into the list to record... I hope it's understandable, this
explanation... I did this with Alanis new cd, so that I could hear it on my
computer.
Angel Foodcake: try Kazaa
All: I'm doing a paper work to improve a mark in my faculty. It's a
paralell between english phrasal verbs and portuguese similar verbs. If
anyone remembers anything, no matter how stupid it may sound, about this,
please tell me. Even phrases in english with phrasal verbs. I prefer with
GIVE, for it's the verb I'm studing in particular. Thank you all very much.
And if anyone needs a help with linguistics... I'll try to help. Juan,
you're included!
Maria.

Welcome back Elisha! Have you tried Outlook Express ( I know it's made by
Satan himself, but it's actually a great program. Entourage is better still,
but i dont think its for free. OE is though )
JUAN: muchisima suerte con el examen.
Angel: I think it's pretty much sold out. Somebody have a copy around who
could make us another copy?
About protected CD's: I hate the idea. I own a mac and have a disc changer
in my car, how the hell am i suposed to listen to music now?? I hate the
idea even more because for the last ten years, all of my spare money has
been spent on music. It feels like such a blow to the head that the music
industry just doesnt get it. Making copies of CD's is NOT the problem, as
much as recording a tape wasn't either. Sales for recorded CD's went up in
the last couple of years, mainly because of mp3 distribution ( you listen to
a lot of new music, for free, then you can decide if you buy the album or
not, just like a huge listening station at the store ), and the idea of
making travelling copies of your CDs was a great idea. I'd be pretty stupid
if I carried my Tori bootlegs around, or Ani DiFranco's Living in Clip, or
NIN's Still CD... I mean, I payed a whole fucking bunch of hard-earned cash
to get these albums, I'm not gonna expose them to burglary in Mexico City (
they'll rob anything, i tell you ). So fuck you big monopolies of the music
industry!
By the way, there is a very easy way to get rid of the protection: just
paint the outside border of the recorded surface with a black marker.
I'm everyday more and more convinced that the world is some kind of huge
Twin Peaks... connections between people I know have started to become both
freaky and surprising. I'll probably end up being my girlfriend's long lost
brother and we'll have deformed babies.
until a third eye appears

Well everyone knows I'm a big conspiracy freak.
I personally don't think McVeigh is dead.
McVeigh had rights to several more appeals. He fought for a little bit,
and then, without much reason just quit fighting.
The simple fact is, the United Stats Government NEEDED this conviction
and execution. The questions about the 3rd member of the bombing (whose
remains were found in the debris AND whose pictures were shown on FBI held
footage (but not widely publicized)) were becoming increasingly hard to
answer and embarassing.
More and more questions about federal agents actions in the days prior to
the blast were also building up. Suspicious men weilding federal ID's in
places they had no legitimate business being.
The government needed this for so many reasons. A warning needed to be
made to would-be terrorists. This didn't seem to work. Someone always
needs to hang or people lose faith in the system and McVeigh was making
them look increasingly foolish. Some of the sicker, more disgruntled
segments of society were already beginning to get inspired my McVeighs
Prime Time interview rhetoric. Some others were getting sympathetic.
So they cut a deal. McVeigh gets two wishes.
He gets to live and he gets to be a martyr.
Witnesses to the execution saw him injected. They saw him "die" and there
are many drugs that can do this, and always have been. Puffer fish do this
to people every year without any pharmaceutical wizardry.
The Government has already stated that the much publicized hearse that
drove away after the execution did NOT have his remains in it. In fact,
his remains were "scattered in an undisclosed location".
No body, no evidence will ever surface that he was in fact killed.
So I'm a freak...now prove me wrong. Not just arguments...bring me a leg
bone.

Subject: je suis idiot
Hola mes amies.
I want to cut out my tongue and slap it around a bit, for it is definitely
NOT connected to my brain. Vile, vile, vile tongue. Doing its own thing.
Argh.
As to why I am upset at that flappy thing in my mouth:
Today I went to the fair with Yiwei and we were leaving when this girl I've
seen around school waved to me and said "hi". I don't know her name cuz I
suck at names, but I said "hi" back and then I stated that I liked her hair,
which was obviously dyed black with little spirals in it. Behold the
conversation:
Her: You like it? I've had it in Tan and Black. Which do you like better?
Me: I...um...black. Black! Cuz you look like black...um....people!?
Slap me, please. I swear I did not mean to say black PEOPLE! My brain had
the "off" switch on and I am a complete and total idiot. I sounded like a
racist and her blue haired friends looked at me like I was the scum of the
earth.
Argh. I can't talk to people socially without panicking and going
"whatamIgoingtosay!!!??whatamIgoingtosay!?!?!?!?" in my head and then I'm
either too busy panicking or too busy wondering as to what I'm going to say
than to actually PAY ATTENTION to what they're saying and then freakin
THINKING BEFORE SPEAKING.
This being typed, I am now going to stick my head in dirt and try to
convince myself that, indeed, I have a brain and dammit, I will get it
surgically attached to my tongue and I am a total idiot who needs to be
slapped because now a perfectly nice girl whose name I do not know thinks
I'm racist cuz I'm stupid and dumb and don't think and...
I think I'm overreacting to this, but the problem's still there.
The whole needing social skills thing. I mean, I need to learn how to make
small talk and how to actually LISTEN when being talked to, especially by
strangers, and how to not trip over words and fuck up the context of my
sentences and not sound like such a COMPLETE IDIOT and just shut up and
listen and listen and actually LISTEN.
...!
Maybe I should give myself homework assignments?
Today's assignment: Find an interesting person. Go up to them and ask
them, "If you could do anything in the world without any regrets, what would
it be" or "What is the meaning of life?" (42) or "Does all your base TRULY
belong to us or is that just a myth?" or something equally as conversation
start-y.
Today is not the greatest day in the kingdom of Megan.
In fact, I also lost $10 bucks trying to win a pet lizard. But that's
another story entirely.
And carnival folk scare me, especially when they have no bottom teeth but
still insist upon smoking after demanding money from you.
Your hair looks like black people. Sheesh! I need a staple gun.
How Now, Brown Cow?

Yes, I definitely think this is true. You know, most
days you can't stand all the pop crap on the radio, and then you get
your heart broken and one day they seem like they're all singing to you.
Music is a mirror -- and sometimes it is difficult to see ourselves in it,
and other times quite easy.
These days, I find myself wanting to listen more to music that poses a
philosophical challenge, or something that expands my musical boundaries a
little. It was a long time before I could listen, for example, to
Kate Bush; before that, her music just didn't speak to me at all,
it was too challenging or something. Then one day I listened
to her and I thought, "I get this. I finally GET this." And I wound up
getting all her albums in a pretty short period of time.
(Some I think try too hard to be challenging. I still love Tool, but
they definitely come to mind.)
Urgh. This is quite a tangent.
A close friend of mine is going through something terrible right
now, although it's good for him and it will all be much better once it's
over with, but a lot of songs I hear right now remind me of his situation.
Songs I don't think I would normally listen to so closely. :)
Sorry you're not doing well - if you ever want an ear across the
water, you know how to find me. :)
Beth
