Just replies. Way back in digest 1841, slippery, smooth as a baby's bottom
and sexy in a pair of jeans, Jessica wrote:
>if i ever sniff crack and decide to marry, it better be a small ring and
>he can't spend more than $1000. i'm thinking $500 would be a better limit.
Skipping over the "small ring" comment as it's too easy, you're cheap. Even
I'd marry you at that price. Tradition, as far as I understand it states
you should pay two month's worth of salary towards the cost of an
engagement ring. Is that before or after tax? Either way, it makes for one
enormous rock that serves very little purpose. Like you, I'd rather see
that sort of money spent on something like the honeymoon or a deposit on a
house. I also think if the woman breaks off the engagement, she should hand
back the ring. If it's the guy, then it's optional but should still be
returned if she has any decency, especially if it cost the traditional amount.
Thankyouthankyouthankyou for your Tori show report. It's nice to be
reminded occasionally of why we're here and that she's still actually touring.
Lavs replied about my punching bag story...
>If it wasn't for the fact that this was written a number of days early,
>I'd think you were trying to come up with a cover story for said injury
>after meeting up with Koba...
Actually, I was doing it to get some good fisting practise in. As
suggested, I did meet up with Koba for an evening of eating, drinking and
debauchery. Like you probably all expect, he hasn't changed a bit and for
those of you who haven't been around long enough to know who we're talking
about, you're the lucky ones.
BTW, is there anyone new dying to introduce themselves around here? Don't
be shy, we don't bite, just nibble at the edges a little.
On to John B's report of a proposed gay high school - while in principle
it's not a bad idea, in practicality it's a very bad one. It would only
serve to segregate people of different sexual persuasions from the
mainstream, which would only contribute to misunderstanding. It would also
be like putting a sign on a student's head proclaiming their preference if
they went there and make them an easy target for everything from
discrimination to violence.
I won't even touch your last statement...
>it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Onto Lavs again in #1842, talking about her 10 year high school reunion:
>I'm umming and ahhing about going because of how I felt about life, myself
>and the people at school 10 and more years ago and whether I want to
>dredge all that up again, then there's that fence bizo, feeling like I
>haven't accomplished much because I haven't gone on to any career or even
>a job (paying one ;) ) really since high school. All I have to show for
>the last 10 years of my life is a uni degree I have done nothing with and
>a couple of kids
There's nothing wrong with what you've done since high school. While you
might not have achieved what you're dreams may have been when you left high
school, that only happens for the most determined people. Once you get away
from school you find there's a whole different world out there and you're
priorities change. While you may have missed having a career, you may well
find some of your peers are jealous of you, in that they've got their
careers, no children, no time for them but maybe they want to. Raising a
family is a career in itself, but the rewards aren't monetary.
As for reliving what happened there, I'd say go unless you really, truly
hated your time in high school. I ended up having a fantastic time at my 10
year reunion and I spoke to people there who wouldn't have even noticed me
(or vice versa) then. You'll find that most of your peers have changed and
mostly for the better, while some won't have changed at all. It's
fascinating. While it does clash with Shaelea's first birthday, at that age
she's not going to have any concept of what a birthday is, so it doesn't
matter what weekend you throw a party for her and this opportunity won't
come up again for another 10 years.
No, I'm not going to do your bathroom over either. I've had more than
enough of it already and mine hasn't been started on yet. I have been half
watching The Block, but I seem to spend most of my time swearing at the
television. I really wish there was something else on TV at that time.
the unsigned Winter said of her Bali trip...
>He gave me some cipro to take with me in case I felt a
>rumblin'. Didn't need it though.
Not familiar with a drug of that name, but when you're travelling in a
third world country, any medicine to plug up your bowels is your best
friend, believe me. Don't leave home without it.
Simon in #1844... You've got a better idea than I do of your student loan
than I do so I haven't got any advice, but the fact they gave you one
before when you were totally honest with them can only be in your favour.
Hope it all works out for you.
If I had a parrot:
>You're just worried that the parrot would fly around the house cussing
>a blue streak
You know me too well.
On sci-fi...
>One of the interesting things about sci fi I enjoy looking
>for is how much of the era a story was written in shows up in whatever
>vision of the future is being presented.
Even more interesting is the technology. In the original Star Trek, you saw
lots of flashing lights on computers and reel-to-reel tape drives in the
background. On something like Enterprise, you see flat panel displays. It's
nothing more than the latest in current technology you're seeing. At least
the holodecks are something that can be considered futuristic. I can't even
watch the original now without laughing.
Getting up to date in #1845, it's good to see Megan C.A's got around to
getting that lump out of her head. I agree with you about how good
ibuprofen is as well, though I really don't remember much of my holiday
last year once I started taking it. But at least the pain went away.
Bethey, the most important thing about relationships is the timing. I know
I've had more than enough combinations of right/wrong time/woman/place over
the years. I do believe I said that a few months ago. It can never hurt to
keep in touch in case the time/man/place turns out to be right for you.
Now to Jessica..... stop it, girl! First it was animal lube, then sexy as
in jeans and now a good waxing! You're killing me over here!
Who wants to be a Brazilianaire? I do if that means doing a million wax
jobs on certain regions of nubile women. Mmmm... actually, I might get
bored of it after a few thousand.
If you ever need someone to pluck the odd stray pube out of your nether
regions, I'll volunteer to do it with my teeth.
On that note, I should leave.
Brian

word is that the interlochen, MI show on the 19th has been cancelled due to
"circumstances beyond their control". it's mentioned on the interlochen
website:
http://www.interlochen.org/arts_festival/evGuOrderForm.htm
refund checks are supposed to be mailed within 7-10 days and they should be
providing some 1-800 numbers that can be called with questions.

In addition to the info being on the website, the box office is calling
ticket holders as well. That's where you can get the 1800 numbers. One of
the ones I was given by the lady who called me was 1800-681-5920.

Subject: Crazy On You
A year and seven days ago (six if you take into account the time
difference), I was in Seattle for a Heart concert. They were making a DVD
of it at the time and I've been waiting patiently ever since for it to come
out. At lunchtime today I was surfing an on-line CD retailer and saw it had
been out here for two weeks. I checked the two closest DVD shops but they
didn't have it. I did some more surfing of local retailers and saw one had
their last copy in stock, so when I had some free time a couple of hours
later I popped up there but couldn't find it. I asked the guy behind the
counter if they had it and he said they'd sold it. Bugger. I checked a few
more stores and finally found it in a department store. So when I got home
tonight, I parked myself in front of the TV with a couple of beers and
pizza to watch it.
But now for some background. I arrived at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle
30 hours after leaving home, flying from Sydney via LAX. In all that time
I'd had about 2 hours worth of very interrupted sleep. I'd bought a ticket
for the show on-line back home a few weeks before. The best seats had
already been sold and the computer kept telling me the best seats were
upstairs, but I persisted and got a seat on the far right of the theatre in
the floor section. I didn't really care where I was as I was just happy to
be there, considering every time they've released an album Nancy Wilson has
said they'd tour Downunder. It's yet to happen.
When I get to my seat, I find out they're filming the show and there was a
massive camera boom in front of the seats around me. Like all good
Americans, those around me complained to the management about their view
being obstructed while having paid full price. I stuck with these people
and they took us around the other side to some chairs they'd just stuck on
the floor right under the stage. Front row! Woo-hoo!
I was positioned to the right of the stage in front of the bassist and lead
guitarist. There was a guy with a steady-cam running back and forth in
front of me all night and I felt sorry for him having to lug that around
for two hours. Having been able to watch it again, I was reminded of what a
powerful voice Ann Wilson has and I caught all the little bits I couldn't
remember too clearly. Watching the DVD, at one stage all I wanted to do was
light up a joint as when I was in college, I'd get stoned and listen to
their early albums from their gypsy/hippy days pre rock-goddesses. Those
were the days. *sigh* They played a great mix of songs from nearly all
their albums and even introduced 4 new songs which went down well.
I remember clearly during Magic Man and Barracuda where Scott, the lead
guitarist was right in front of me and so it seems was the camera man. We
both had the perfect view. I keep looking for myself all the way through
the DVD but I knew there weren't many opportunities before the encore as
Ann and Nancy were down the other end of the stage. After Barracuda, they
left the stage and I remember the camera man making a close up sweep past
me but thankfully that hit the cutting room floor, as I looked like a
zombie after nearly 32 hours without real sleep. He got up on stage for the
encore and I found myself clearly during Wild Child, head banging away and
doing the devil's horns thing.
If anyone's got the DVD, I first clearly show up on track 17, Wild Child,
at 1hr, 28 min, 5 sec, 9 sec, 28 sec (horns) and 1:29:31. I'm wearing a
grey shirt and have my hands together in front of me. To my right is a
mountain of a guy with a grey beard and he's wearing a cap. In front of me
to the left is a bountiful blonde literally bouncing around, then a
brunette in a tank top then a guy in a red t-shirt. I make a point of him
as he and his woman show up often, but mostly to the edge of the screen.
Having been reminded of the date, it's also the first anniversary of when I
hurt my left foot wile hiking around Golden in British Columbia. A few days
after that it was to the hospital in Banff, then a pain killer induced blur
for the next three weeks of my holiday where I really don't remember much.
But yeah, if you're a Heart fan, go out and buy this DVD. It's called Heart
- Alive In Seattle and it really rocks. I'll keep the pick I got from Scott
and the two from Mike, the bassist with it now. All I'm waiting for now is
for a new album, as they said they'd have one out in spring of 2003. I'm
sure they meant the northern hemisphere and it's nearly spring here down south.

Subject: Top ten things I was reminded about yesterday
10. Always have flashlights. Also batteries for same.
9. Always wear comfortable shoes.
8. Always have candles. Also, be sure to have matches, or a lighter
(otherwise the candles aren't worth poop).
7. No matter what, it's better to be above ground than under it if the
power should happen to go off.
6. Battery backups in digital clocks and answering machines are a good
idea, at least if you remember to change the batteries periodically.
5. Always carry cash. Always carry change. Cash and change work in
situations where various kinds of cards will not.
4. Being at ground level is also better than being above it, either on an
elevated subway or in an elevator, if the power goes off.
3. Always have a battery-powered radio, and batteries.
2. Landline phones still have some advantages over cell phones. And always
make sure you have at least one phone which doesn't require an outside
power source.
1. In general, people are nice and helpful and pull together in difficult
times. When I got home (finally), my landlords had placed a small baggie
near my door, containing a book of matches and two small candles.

Okay so the east coast suffered the nation's largest ever blackout. damn, so
that sucks for them like being stuck on subways and cell phones being out of
use and people having to climb up 10-15 flights of stairs. now, can we
fucking MOVE ON?!?!? had that happened on the west coast CNN would've moved
on to some other worthless piece of news five minutes later. so people on
the east coast get points for showing compassion. big deal. they wouldn't
have had to say that for the west coasters because the stereotype is that
new yorkers are assholes and people on the west coast are nicer. of course,
some say that all stereotypes hold a tiny grain of truth in them. who knows?
also, think about how many people in the world live without electricity on a
regular basis. fucking a. ok, i'm done now. oh and it's pathetic now that
whenever something happens they always add on to the story saying that
terrorism isn't suspected as a cause. hi, new-turning-into-not-new normal.
I feel kind of pathetic because I'm dying to go shopping. i'm a
superhero....50% girly girl, 50% tomboy.
alright......enough of this shit on my part.
