So! I got a new job as an office assistant that pays crap, but at least it
has benefits (the lack thereof making me paranoid prior to my acceptance at
WIS) and is relatively near. Unfortunately, the job isn't located in
Pittsburgh, but in Penn Hills, which the buses in my neighborhood do not
travel to.
This means I have to drive.
This means that _I_ have to drive, which is horrible. I hate driving. I
get lost so very easily, I always go 5 miles under the speed limit because
I think I'm going to fast, and I go about 2 miles out of the way just to
avoid making left turns. I hate driving.
Unfortunately, I'm gonna have to. So yesterday and today I drove to my
work and back again 5 different times, twenty minutes each way, just to try
and get used to the route and not freak out and get lost my first day
(which is on friday). Oy vey. Five times might seem a bit excessive, but
trust me, I needed it. And I think I need to do it again, because I swear,
I'm friggin dyslexic when it comes to remembering directions.
Anyone else have that problem? Never remember whether it was right or left
when they go places? Or is it just me?
Hmmmm, I'm really tired now, so I think I'll go take a nap.
Au revoir, mes amies,
Megan

Yeah that's not quite the point I was making either.
What I was saying was that whatever was going on in Tori's life at the
time (and whatever her mood was) would have helped to fuel Boys For Pele
like every other album of hers.
Personally I've always felt that a lot of Pele was angry and at times a
bit melancholy though. The subject of many of the songs are hardly jolly
anyway. That's just my opinion though.
Tori's current situation isn't fuelling the same kind of work. I honestly
believe The Beekeeper is a solid collection of (on the whole) really good
songs. No, it's not groundbreaking but it's still damn good and it's had a
whole lot of airplay in my home. Will I still be listening to it in years
to come like Pele? I don't know but I've been enjoying it daily since it
was released and not just in some act of blind loyalty because I've never
done that. I honestly like it and even love a lot of the tracks.
If it's groundbreaking, it's excellent but I don't think something has to
be groundbreaking to be good.
At the end of the day though, it's personal opinion. If the album doesn't
ring anyone's bell, that's fine. I just don't think it's a bad album.

inspired by Kate Bush's song "Running Up That Hill". dammit. i thought
i was imagining it!

I think Beth made some good points about how we use drugs in this
country... but I have to say that Cruise is way off the deep end.
Implying that putting any drug in your body is a bad thing. We
overuse drugs and overmedicate all the time, but it doesn't mean that
drugs don't help some people in some cases. Cruise was way off the
deep end and I don't know that he was trying to say what you wrote at
all. Some of your reasoning might be what he believes, but he was way
past that and really rude about it when talking to Matt Lauer.
