  [ =======================>  In RDT History  <======================= ]

On August 31st in 1992, a member posted:

A comment from the introducer at the Eugene show (a DJ from
KAVE, the sponsor) that really rang true. He said that he's
heard people reminiscing about seeing Elvis Costello or
Talking Heads performing at small clubs before they became
big, and this was our chance to participate in something
        similar.

In 1994, transcripts of several radio interviews are posted.
Also, reviews (including a member posting about taking his
4-year-old daughter to Tori's b'day show where they gave Tori a
cupcake with candle before the first encore), and RMT-A becomes
     a reality.

In 1996, a member reports on pretending to be press at a
function at CBGB's, "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" (without
referencing Tori), "Stardust", more Tori anagrams, reviews, and
a member reveals how they had recently worked with Steve
     Farris:

He started telling me how he was asked to play on the YKTR
record, that he was told how "brilliant this Tori Amos is,"
to which he responded "Yeah, right... whatever" (*Everyone*
is "brilliant" when you are being asked to play on a record,
he explained). But upon meeting her and hearing her play a
few originals on the piano, he was mesmerized.

Also, the end of the world has been rescheduled, Hitler, a
member posts about his HIV scare, and a member posts about
     Tori's future with a band:

Found this on the ns, any thoughts.... "I was talking to
Tori's manager prior to her Greensboro show and he mentioned
two important things...first, there whould be an EP release
sometime in the next few weeks and second, she is planning
on forming a band for the next tour...he didn't go into
great detail other than to say that we will not have to wait
long for the new material. Caton also informaed me that they
have already been in the studio working on the next
        album..."

In 1998, Tori's 'weaker' songs, reviews, and Jaymes Warnock.

In 1999, a member posts about the new Live song having the line
"Can you hear the dolphins crying?" (similarity with 'Mary')
and connections between Tori songs, and a number of members
     post concert reviews.

In 2000, daylight saving, putting cd's in cases with the text
right way up, and people leaving the list.

[And only tangentially relating to RDT history: 20 years ago
today, I (Violet) got married. Was fun while it lasted,
mostly. Glad it's over. Time flies, even when you're not
having fun. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.]

well, college goes on... at least i have my own room. today was the first
day of "early british literature," and we talked about the renaissance and
queen elizabeth. the teacher guy seems nice, at first he waltzed into the
room, slammed the door, pulled off his hat, and gave us all a big smile. he
probably won't remember my name until december, but that's ok. when he
mentioned anne boleyn, i got "talula" stuck in my head and it's been there
ever since. heh.

well, there's a brief update, but it's lunch time, i'm starving, and i have
a class at 1:30. ta-ta, and once i get the internet in my room, i'll reply
to stuff and post more!

Some of you probably have had no clue that I'm due to be an aunt
ANY day now.. some of you know, but haven't heard much, and so on--you
get the idea. ANYWAY, my sister Deanna is about 4 days overdue as I write
this, and I've just been informed that she's been having little
contractions today--nothing big enough to run to the hospital over, but
still, big enough news to write about. This baby COULD be coming today,
or even tomorrow if things progress. I will keep you all posted. :)

Bah! Freaking computers! A long story I'd rather no go into details of at
the moment (though I could kill McAfee, grumble, grumble, after giving Glenn
a light strangle), but we had to reformat C drive and reinstall Win98. While
we have a partitioned hard drive, and thus anything I wanted to save I moved
to D drive (if it wasn't already there), having to reinstall our programs
again is a pain in the arse, because it's so time consuming, when I have so
many other things I need to be doing at the moment. Especially since I've
gotta track down where we got OE5 from (this stupid OE4 or whatever it is
sucks majorly. If things from me looking freaky, that's what I'm blaming it
on), and figure out if I can get all my old messages and settings back into
it (then probably upgrade it). Same with Netscape. But the one thing I'm
most distraught about is the 600-odd fonts I lost. I could cry. It's going
to take me ages to track them down again. I'd just like to know how or why
the fonts got wiped off D drive. Serves me right for not putting them on
floppies (which I am going to do this time - of course. Hindsight is
wonderful isn't it?). The funny thing is, when we were facing having a
completely non-functioning computer I was fine with it, as long as it was
short term, whereas in the past I'd be frantic if I couldn't get on for a
day.

Your boyfriend wants They Might Be Giants played at the wedding? In a few
years we'll see you on one of the talk shows when they're doing their "Weird

Linda's comments about the church incident in NYC and remarking on Tori
performing in a church got me wondering just *how* her music would sound
played on a large cathedral organ. Like Professional Widow for example ;)

i just noticed on the dent's main news page that fanscape's newsring
thingie is back. for those who do not know, it's an webpage that lives on
fanscape's server which you integrate into your own tori site via a
<ilayer> or <iframe> tag.

hmmmm. now that i read yesterday's street team newsletter a second time
(or, more accurately, read it for the first time instead of just skimming
it!), i see it was announced already.

anyways, you can go always directly to the newsring page at

http://www2.fanscape.com/toriamos/newsring2/newsringbody.html

currently, they have windows media, realaudio and quicktime streams of the
full album version of "a sorta fairytale" (the realaudio and high bitrate
windowsmedia streams sound quite nice).

from that last street team newsletter, there is information for adding the
newsring to your site and entering your site in a contest to be listed at
toriamos.com and the dent at

Subject: women 2 watch transcript

here's a transcript of the program women 2 watch, during which tori sat in
and guest hosted with abby gennet. the "a sorta fairytale" video was NOT
show (boo!).

Women 2 Watch
MTV2
Hosted by Abby Gennet and Tori Amos

Abby: This is Women 2 Watch with our very special guest, Ms. Tori Amos, who
has a new album out called Scaerlet's Walk which is out October 29th. Now,
what were some of your inspirations for this album?

Tori: Well, this album's a story and it's about a woman taking a road trip.
So, she's working her way from the west coast to the east coast slowly and
she meets people who make her question waht she believes in and has her
asking, um, you know, who is America and where is her soul?

A: Ohhh, I heard a rumor that this woman might be a porn star...is that true?

T: No, she goes to visit her friend who's a porn star.

A: Oh, ok. There was some kind of porn star happening in it...

T: There's always a porn star somewhere in my life...

A: Well, this half hour taking a look at women we should be watching this
year, that are going to hit it big. We're going to see one from Avril
Lavigne who's very young. Now, what kind of advice would you give a girl
who's just starting out in the music industry.

T: Well, not knowing her myself, but just.... I've been given some pretty
good advice along the way and somebody said to me once that you can be
radical in your content and still respect people on your way up, and that
stayed with me.

A: Well, that's good. That's good advice. Avril, if you're watching, take
notes. Alright, we're going to see one from _Let Go Now_, it's called
"Sk8er Boi".

[Commercial break]

A: We're taking a look at women to watch with Tori Amos. Now, Tori, you're
such a huge influence on some many female artists -- and male artists. I
know my brother is a huge fan of yours. So, how's it feel when people
approach you and, like, tell you what an inspiration you are to them?

T: Well, it feels wonderful. You want to hold a space for people. Me
becoming a mom has made me want to, I don't know, pass the torch and be
supportive to other people.

A: That's good.

T: Feels good.

A: Yeah, it should. We're about to see one from Floetry now. Have you heard
-- have you seen this video?

T: I have seen this video.

A: OK

T: I love the relationship between these two women. I think sometimes, um,
the compativeness between women can be...it's really sad.

A: Yeah, they get catty.

T: Yeah...they can. We can! And to see these two women work, it's inspiring.

A: Yeah, it's cool. And they have their own little genre going around. They
throw some, like, hip-hop and some reggae and some other kind of vintage
pop or something in there. Plus, their poetry. Right? Let's check it out.
 From Floetry, it's "Floetic".

[Commercial break]

[Norah Jones "Don't Know Why" video]

A: That was Norah Jones, a woman we think you should be keeping an eye on
this year. Now, Norah faced a lot of difficulties at the beginning since
she felt she had to defend herself against people that maybe thought she
was just another pretty face or that maybe she was riding the coattails of
her father, who is Ravi Shankar. So, what kind of challenges did you face
when you were starting out?

T: I think the trickiest time was after you have a successful record and
you're making the next one. Everybody gets a little paranoid and it's so
importnat not to get drawn into that, because then you forget how to be a
pioneer and that's what got you where you are in the first place,
especially if you're a good songwriter.

A: So it's almost like you're doing it for the audience now and it's not
like the fiorst one was for you.

T: Well, you've got to...you still have to be true to the muse because the
audience, let's face it, they are hoping you know what you're doing.

A: Yeah, and they're tough.

T: Well, I don't make a record, um, by committe. I can't do that. I have to
stay true to the music and um... Everybody has an opinion and if i listen
to everybody, the record's would never get finished.

A: Listen to what's in here [points at her heart]

T: And you have to make it different everytime, you know, you don't make
love twice the same way.

A: No, never! Listen to that girls! Pay attention! And make sure you check
out Scarlet's Walk which is coming out October 29th and you will be going
on tour, also, this fall. Will you be bringing baby with you?

T: She's coming. Um, with our Harry Potter broomsticks...

A: Nice!

T: I think that we have a whole group of people coming, we're very excited.

A: I'm looking forward to it and seeing if you do any Zeppelin covers, I
love when you do those.

T: There's always one! There's always one in the back pocket.

A: Alright, well, thank you for coming and it was great hanging. Thank you
guys for watching. We'll see you soon.

I'd be very careful about this situation. This is the sort of stuff
Richard Nixon used to do, and you know how he turned out.

> Aren't those the kind of plans you make when you are together

Yup. And even then you make the plans together, as a team. Especially
major plans like that. Not the way he's doing it.

> I am really heartbroken about how it all ended up, though. I really
> did love him, the old him.

I was never involved with anybody who changed that much. Well, I was
involved with somebody whose sexual orientation changed after we were
together for three months. That's pretty serious, but I'd known it was a
possibility from the start.

> I haven't even been able to hear the new song.

You're not alone, I haven't heard it either. I will hear it when the
album comes out and I hear the whole thing.

I'm nowhere near as impatient about these things as I used to be. Patti
Smith's first album, Horses, and Siren (Roxy Music) came out on the same
day, and I remember I was there before the store opened, my little face
pressed to the window.

I called a radio station in Las Vegas NV today to see if they had
received "A Sorta Fairytale". They had, but wouldn't play it for me
today because they're going to debut it on their "new music" show
tomorrow night (Sunday 9/1) which starts at 9:00 pm. The station is
KMXB "Mix" 94.1 fm.
