I have updated my web page with my thoughts of the anniversary of September
11. But before you get to my thoughts is a piece of fiction about the day
itself. I think it's poignant that on September 12 there will be a special
ceremony in Arlington Cemetery for all the unidentified, unclaimed victims
of the attacks on New York/DC. My story has to do with one such person,
although I wrote in the weeks following the attack. Read my story, but
please, read my thoughts also. I feel so very strongly about what is
happening in the world and I think we all can do part to help.

Fairy Blessings and Peace,

ah hell I need to reply to this. the last 24 hours (as you can
probably see from my "baby update" emails) has been hectic!! o_O
August 31.. my sister gave birth to a BEAUTIFUL girl at 8:05AM..
as of now she still has no name except for her last name of McArthur
which is leading me to call her "little Mac" until she gets a real name..
lol.. (and if you don't believe me when I say she's beautiful, go to my
blog. I posted pics and little Mac wasn't even 4 hours old yet!)
I'm an aunt now, and I've earned my damn bragging rights, so deal
with it, BWAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAH!!! now ON WITH THE REPLIES!!
Arija: hope you're enjoying your apartment! :)

that reminds me.. Arija and Deadra, I've got your CDs burned and
ready to go.. I just need to scare up a couple of jewel cases and then
get 'em sent.. email me if you're okay with them being like.. put in a
big envelope thing for a CD instead.. I WILL include cover art (that I
made myself! ;)) with it, whatever the case! just let me know what you
prefer, and then they will be off!

Beth updated us on Gabriela.. TELL HER HELLO FOR US!!! :)

thanks yet again, Woj, for the Tori news! :D

Megan said: "Um....I didn't mean to post my phone number. Whoops. I
thought I had only clicked on my Murrysville Moronville buddies. So any
stalkers out there, don't call me and threaten to devour my soul. Thank
you."
        er, I don't even remember it! o_O I emailed ya tho! :)

Penny gave us the Scarlet's Walk tracklisting.. sounds sweet!

I talked to my mom earlier today about Tori touring this fall and my
little money problem.. and she said she'd pay for the tickets as a late
birthday present to me.. so.. you guys.. what is the average price for a
pretty good-to-excellent seat at a Tori show? o_O

Megan S informed us that yes, the ex she's speaking of is the one she met
at the wedding.. D'OH! well if he's that messed up in the head, you're
better off without him.. but all the same, sorry to hear that it didn't
last.. :P sounds like he needs a teensy bit of mental help.. nothing
short of a nice white jacket brought to him by some really big nice men..

and now on to the next digest! fwee!

Violet said in the retro for the 31st: "And only tangentially relating to
RDT history: 20 years ago today, I (Violet) got married."
whee! and in 2002.. my niece was born! WHEE!! oh boy.. I can't
wait to see her tomorrow! (she's due to come home tomorrow, provided
nothing happens between now and then :))

Ade said of her Brit. Literature teacher: "when he mentioned anne boleyn,
i got "talula" stuck in my head and it's been there ever since. heh."
dude while I was in the hospital visiting Deanna (my sister).. I
had the beginning of Icicle (up until Tori starts singing) in my head the
whole time, because to me that is seriously.. it makes me think of movie
scenes where family members and friends are worriedly sitting around and
pacing in a waiting room for some reason. *shrug* rofl..

Lavs bemoaned: "But the one thing I'm most distraught about is the
600-odd fonts I lost. I could cry."
Lavs, honey.. www.acidfonts.com should get you started on getting
that collection back to working order. :)

Simon said in reply to my liking how he wished Tori happy birthday:
"Would you expect me to have said it any other way? ;) It's tori we're
talking about after all ;)"
from you, no.. from anybody else, um.. probably. :)

Simon then said to me: "Your boyfriend wants They Might Be Giants played
at the wedding? In a few years we'll see you on one of the talk shows
when they're doing their "Weird Wedding" stories ;)"
that's **IF** we get married. I don't think we'll make it to that
stage though. long distance relationships SUCK. However, if we break up..
we swore that we'd try to remain best friends, so that works for me. :)
like I said before (I have been rambling nonstop to anybody who
will listen.. about this.. I still can't believe I'm an aunt so just
gimme a break here! lol), I can't WAIT to see my baby niece tomorrow if
she comes home then! YAY! :) so therefore.. I must.. haul.. ass.. to..
BED! I'm EXHAUSTED. so.. g'night! *zzzZZZZzzzzzzzzZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz.....*

My feelings about things like that are mixed- personally I've believed that
trying to relate or empathize with other people's experiences is a good
thing but I was always taught that attempting to relate or find a connection
in someone else's story is selfish and equivalent to trying to steal from
the persons who have actually been through something terrible or
life-changing, claiming something that one isn't entitled to.

While I used to operated under that assumption, more recently I come around
to think that attitudes like that are false because even if you weren't
there and can't actually feel what they've been through at least making a
genuine effort to try to relate to or understand what happened is still
ultimately positive. And drawing inspiration and encouragement from
someone's account of dealing with difficulty or a challenge means the one
who experienced has ultimately been able to help others.

It's like what we feel when we listen to tori's music or read about what's
happened to her. We're not claiming in a "me too" way, we're feeling a
connection because of the powerful emotions she conveys to her audience, and
feel inspired or helped by hearing her music dosen't mean we've tried to
steal or misappropriate something that wasn't ours. Knowing someone else
has overcome adversity helps in working through one's own difficult
situation and I think tori feels good knowing that her music has helped so
many of us :)

Why not post what you wrote with a brief intro that lets the reader know
it's fiction based on the events of 9/11?

your friends are heathens.

and you named your hamster Bunnicula? cool! :)

sounds like the digital photography and video classes are a blast :)

Speaking of which: it's not definite yet but there is a really good
possibility that I might be going back to school this spring to pursue a
computer graphic art degree. There's a local assistance program that I'm in
the early stages of testing for to see if I qualify for their financial help
and so far it looks good. Pursuing that degree means I can take what I've
already learned (video production) and really update and build on it so I'd
be open to more job possibilities later on (computer-related work rather
than just conventional video work).

So if all goes well I'll be a student again at the local community college.
The only thing I'm really concerned about is that the head counselor at the
disabled student services office there once told me that I wasn't welcome by
the disabled community there (or elsewhere too from what she said) and I
took that to mean *always* so yeah, I'm a little skittish about that if it
turns out that I need to access whatever help I might need from them.
That's part of where the "relating and connecting is stealing from people
who've *actually* endured something difficult" mindset came from. The gist
of what happened was that I got accused of exaggerating or outright faking
my disability as a sick attention ploy and got "busted" when other disabled
students figured that my disability wasn't legit based on the lack of
certain secondary things I don't have to deal with that some other people do
deal with because of their respective conditions, along with being seen
doing things off campus in spite of being in a wheelchair. Things like
hanging out with friends and going to movies.

Short version of it: me just going about doing my thing during the day was
seen as cheating since somehow I was seen as trying to make fun of people
who were worse off than me. I did present real documentation about my
condition and that just made them made a stronger fraud accusation and being
so depressed back then I never thought I had the "right" to challenge it.
So, I cut and run and let the "not welcome" thing drive a lot of what I was
doing and I spent a long time feeling guilty about my own situation because
I never thought I was being seen as a poser or interloper treading where I
was supposed to know I wasn't welcome.

Nowadays of course I know that was all crap but I still have a distrust of
people in certain "support roles" because of what happened- and it's really
hard to shake the idea that I risk being called a liar *because* I told the
truth or accused of something nefarious merely because to them, it's like
cheating if you can still pursue things you're interested in despite your
limitations.

I found far more acceptance among classmates and instructors who really
didn't know much about helping someone in a wheelchair- they accepted me
without question and never acted "duped" or imposed upon after helping me
when I needed it, while the DSS people who are supposedly experts and
advocates really enforce the whole "with friends like there, who needs
enemies?" concept.

yeah, I'm still a little paranoid about some things. I just don't have the
resources to face legal action if access their services and their memories
are as long as I think they are.

megan a. gave us that karma ghost link. and I thought my sense of humor was

Subject: Me Again!

Hi Guys!
I know I ALWAYS promise to keep my posts updated to the list,
but I always get tangled wit everyday life and times flies! :)
Madame Ade: Good that your School Day was nice!, I am
studying in 3er year at the Teachers Training College, and though I HATE
History I pretty much like the whole Period of Elizabeth 1, Funny I always
remember Talula, when Anne Boleyn is named.
Cyndi: Now you have to named the girl with a name that can be
turned into some sort of a Tori Related nickname . i.e: Anastacia, Tori,
Tash, Beene, etc :)
Cyndi, you should go to www.hereinmyhead.com and in diagnosed
sounds sections, in the SLG era download and save as target the live version
of ICICLE from Los Angeles & BLACK SWAM from Toronto, Wicked! :)
Well not much about my life, you know:
My best friend (the one I once I asked the list for adviced)
betrayed me, and used me to solve some problems of his. I was sad and
desperate for a while, but then I realized that I am my best friend, and I
don not want to get sick and bad people in my life, and that he was cheating
and faking all the time. So I am much better on my own, rather than with
someone who is a piece of cr*p and claims to be your best friend. It is all
very UTP, the betrayal among men, I guess this time!
I have started some sessions with a terapist, and it has been really
helpfull. All in all, I am ok. I have been terribly hooked on Opera Singer,
or vocalists with Operatic range, I specially love JOSH GROBAN (Love Him, he
is the man! What a voice!), SARAH BRIGHTMAN (Truly the voice of an angel!),
and Emma Shapplin (I love Her!).
And this crazy idea of taking voice lessons is going round in my head, what
do you think, should I ?.
I do not know, I have been feeling great lately, I do not have
to cope with ill people who are bad intentioned (my ex- best friend), and I
have been feeling a lot independant and good. Waiting to getmy hands on the
new Tori Album!
So, I will try to post as much as I can :)
              See Ya
              Daniel

Subject: baby name!

my niece has a name, now. :) I'm not too sure of the spelling of
her middle name yet but as far as I know, her name is Bailey Anne
McArthur.. being that her initials are now B A M.. I don't think she'll
make it through a lifetime without me calling her Bam.. rofl.. ah, but
she's a cutie.. and she didn't come home today--they decided to keep her
for one more day (since she didn't eat yesterday, and is eating a bit
today), and she SHOULD be coming home tomorrow.. whee! :)

Congratulations on becoming an aunt, Cyndi!! :-) :-)
:-)

About the women 2 watch transcript... I'm kinda glad
that they mentioned Avril Lavigne... I really like her
music. I mean, it's kinda juvenile at this point, but
I can see her really going somewhere. I hope that she
sticks around in the music industry long enough for
her music to mature a bit, because I think she could
really be a great artist someday. Like, Sk8er Boy is a
cheesy pop song to the nth degree, but it's safe to
say that most of the stuff on YKTR wasn't recognized
as the work of a genius (yeah, "genius" may turn out
to be a bit of a stretch for A.L., but I have high
hopes for the girl... hehe).

And, Tori would totally kick ass on a huge cathedral
organ. Damn, I'm sure if there's a heaven, that's the
kind of music that they play at the gates.

Here is a poem I wrote:

Title: The Passing Of The Dark

Inhibitions are not welcome
Leave them dangling at the door
They're the only price to pay
For the chance to dance till dawn
And wander round the carousel
And wonder where the stars have flown
The window open to the world
Dancing till the sun is come

A welcome left up to the sky
A sacrifice of virgin dew
And do not ask for one more glass
The dawn will come
The dawn will come
Like racing horses in the night
The room revolves in constant gyres
Leave the lightening to the skies
The sacred fires melt in glass
Saved reflections of your face
The night has never been so dark
And the mornings have been lost
To dances long and lovers sweet

The dawn will come
The dawn will come
The mourners sing their last regrets
Up to the shining of the stars
Begetting nothing but the lost
The dance is done at threat of sun
And dew licked dancers almost gone
While lilting lovers hunch and burn
Left behind to turn to dust

The night has never been so great
The night has never been so long
The night has never been this sweet
Before the coming of the dawn
And while the oceans threaten waves
And while the hours threaten light
We're dancing on
We're dancing on
To mourn the passing of the dark

Hey, howdy....

Not sure if anyone still even reads this list anymore, but I just
re-subbed. MANY of the old folks are probably long gone, but just wanted to
peep in and see how it's going. I used to be on this list back in 1994 or
so and over the years lurked and contributed (you can do a search on the
archives under Adam Schwenk to see more about what I posted).

Let's see....over the years, haven't really been as big a tori fan as I
was before. hopefully this new album will be worth it. Sorry to upset the
peanut gallery ;-) but I was unimpressed with Strange Little Girls. It felt
more like a decent covers album. Hopefully Tori's putting the full iron in
the tire this time.

Me? I graduated from college, went to work doing multimedia production
and web design (you can see my work at http://www.adamschwenk.com), moved
into wireless...got laid off. Now I'm working as a video game
producer...which I really love. I had a boyfriend for almost 3 years, but
that fell through. Now I haven't seen anyone in over 2 years and am feeling
kinda lonely and isolated here in LA. Been thinking of relocating to
chicago actually. Anyway, just wanted to say hey and see if anyone's still
using the list. I'll be lurking for a while. if you'd like to know more
just ask ;-) Oh, what i"m listening to lately?

What I'm listening to:
- ----------------------------
Beck - Sea Changes (damn you vile online file sharing services again ;-))
The Vines - Highly evolved (LOOOOOVE this album)
Anastacia - both her albums
Badly Drawn Boy - About a Boy
Coldplay - A rush...
Counting Crows - Hard Candy

What I'm reading:
-------------------------
Box Office Poison (LOVE this)
The Ultimates Graphic Novel
Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal (well, I'm going
to read it anyway)
The New X-Men (Grant is God)

What I'm playing:
------------------------
Stuntman
Super Mario Sunshine
Warcraft 3

What recently inspired me:
---------------------------------------
Gerhard Richter exhibit in Chicago
Licking boots at The Eagle in Chicago <grin>

Hope I didn't bore you guys. I'll talk more later if you like :-)
