[ =======================> In RDT History <======================= ]
On September 11th in 1994, discussions of the songs on "Under
the Pink," a review of Tori's September 8 show in San Jose,
California and September 10 show in Berkeley, and ongoing
strangeness at Tori shows after her breakup with Eric. One
member wrote:
On the subject of China. She began to play it and stopped
about two phrases into it. She turned to the audience and
said that she couldn't go on with this song because "I wrote
it for someone who is no longer in my life."
In 1995, people were clamoring for information regarding the
Dew Drop Inn tour. Also people were discussing the "Hey
Jupiter" video. Also: which Metallica songs would you like Tori
to cover?
In 1997, Violet was still ironing out the details of RDT's
transformation into RDTRN. Among other things, she wrote:
I am a subscriber to this list just like everyone else. I
post messages in the same way, and I don't really want to be
seen as "running" this list. I hope that none of you will
*ever* be afraid to say that you disagree with something I
say (although support is always cool). :) The point is, I
want to be here exactly the way I was on RDT.
In 1998, interpretations of "Jackie's Strength."
In 1999, discussion of dates for the 5.5 weeks tour (I guess
Tori has a habit of touring in the fall) and difficulty finding
the "1,000 Oceans" single.
In 2001, a frantic and tense day trying to check up on members
in the New York area. Throughout the day as members and their
friends checked in to say they were okay, messages were sent
out to subscribers giving safety updates on these folks. (These
updates are not archived.)

I've wondered about that myself, because the seasons affect me opposite of
how most people seem to be affected. Fall, winter, and spring, I'm fine but
during the summer I'm always feeling tired no matter how much sleep I get
and even feeling mentally burned out, like the heat just sucks up all of my
energy.

no kidding! of course there would also have to be a properly scaled
Bossendorfer and wannabe Mustang.
And different tori dolls depicting different looks from her different "eras"

Of course, a tori doll would have to be properly displayed- special shelf,
light always shining on it, that
sort of thing ;)

It's *not* high school! :)

linda wrote about a friend's change after taking depression meds:

I had the same worry when I started taking zoloft but the good feeling is
real and there's enough of a difference between that and feeling bad that I
*know* when I'm not feeling right so I'm able to do something about it. I
also noticed that I felt more at ease around people and that I wasn't
talking a mile a minute to hide problems, and the only time I might talk too
much is out of enthusiasm for whatever is going on.
The feelings are real and I don't feel like something's artificially keeping
me up when I'm really not feeling good.
And indeed, the effects were noticable in just a matter of days- even in the
first 24 hours I noticed some difference.
I do wonder though if there's a point where someone can be ok on their own
without the meds, or is depression something permanent that will always
require treatment and meds of some sort. At least depression has a tangible
cause (chemical imbalance/serotonin glitch in the brain) than *can* be dealt
with. The one negative thing I have to say about depression meds is what
IMHO is the advertising that comes up from time to time- while I think it's
great that public awareness is furthered, it seems a little crass the way
meds are advertised as sort of a cure all or quick fix, when there's so much
more to being treated for depression. For me, it's always been *part* of
the process- very important, yes, but only part of dealing with the problems
I had been having for years.
Overall, it's worked great for me and has been a huge help in making things
my therapist has tried working on with me proceed better, and little day to
day problems that come along are easier to deal with without me feeling
overwhelmed or like I'm not in control.
anyway :)
tash is two! yay! :)

So is this place dead or what?
In previous years when I've been on holidays for the same amount of time,
it's taken me a week to catch up reading digests. I did it in less than
three hours this time.
I did survive driving on the wrong side of the road, but was terrified for
the first morning. Now all I've got is bad habits for driving here. That's
if I could drive my car, as it's stuffed and I've had a rental for the last
couple of days.
Beth mentioned I saw Heart in Seattle back in digest #1693. That be the
truth. My seat was crap as they were filming it. There was a big boom
blocking the view so everyone around me complained. I stuck with them and
ended up with a front row seat, so you'll see my ugly mug all over the
video/DVD of it. I did enjoy the show immensely and they played a good
selection of all their material, including stuff from a forthcoming album.
To cut a long story short, I hurt my foot hiking a week into a 4.5 week
holiday and paid a visit to the hospital in Banff (and paid). After more
tests today, I don't have a stress fracture, but my foot still hurts. Being
on an adventure holiday while doped to the eyeballs on Ibuprofen does take
a lot of fun out of it and I'm still trying to remember what I did the
whole time. Maybe I'll remember when I get my pictures back.
I wish I could say I'd be going back to work relaxed on Thursday. I need
another holiday.
Linda had to mention The Proclaimers in #1699. Oh, good grief! You want
"500 Miles" played at your wedding? Well it won't be to me then!
Archive slut Lavs wrote in #1701:
>Dang my sister for talking about the games on her new computer and getting
>me into wasting time playing them again (actually, for that you can blame
>Coops, for giving them to me in the first place).
Eh? What did I give you (besides your first born)? ;-)
I can't ever remember sending you games, but it sounds like it might be a
good idea if I send you a CD of patches for Microsoft software.
Brad, I'll pass on your peppers. No offense. Remember what I said about a
run in with chilli a couple of months ago?
In #1704, Beth again...
>Holly, redstamen and I just got back from visiting Brian Cooper during his
>stopover in San Francisco. We all seem to have survived the experience
>intact.
It's true, we did meet and all lived to tell the tale. But after all of us
spending a few hours in my funky hotel room, you'd better take heed of
Lavs' warning about getting pregnant that she made in #1705. Same warning
should go to LauraHey who I met as well. It doesn't matter it was a couple
of days later and in public, does it Lavs?
Oh and I recall Redstamen noticed my occasional limping. I know you were
really just checking out my arse. I'd like you to know I was doing the same
with you.
Hmmm.... that little thread on real men... I think I want to be sick. I
mean, some of the qualities that were listed... some of you women either
want the impossible or another woman. I'd like to think I fit the bill on
most of those lists, but you wouldn't believe how many times I've heard,
"you're sweet", or "you're nice, but..." What women want and what women
usually end up with in men are usually two separate things. I know I'd do a
lot better if I was a real bastard.
Why the Eminem subject line? "The Eminem Show" was the theme album on my
tour. It's the first time I've really listened to him and I think he's a
really clever guy. I just wish he'd get over just about everything. I see
that album hasn't even been released here yet, but I'll be buying it when
it does. I'm also predicting he'll do a duet with Moby at the next Grammies.
I'd say more, but all I'm likely to do is rant.
Brian

VERY GOOD. I loved it.. I don't know if it was intentional, but
mentioning the cat made me laugh out loud--both times. Comic relief, I
guess.. the story overall was very sweet. :D Sorry I don't have more to

doesn't make all that much difference. I'm in no hurry other than to ease
the back and groin ache (thank smeg I didn't have that with Tiarna).
woohoo, megan's got an admirer! :)
haven't even got to acidfonts yet, still at fontfile (which has the
Farscape font, and Century Schoolbook, which in my opinion is the LE font
(Here. In my Head doesn't have anything mentioned for LE)

Subject: you rotten punks
Hello everyone! It's been awhile since I posted, eh?
just if anyone's interested; I started working about a month ago in a TV
station in the kids section. It's called Once NiŅos and it's the greatest,
most fun job ever! I get my first paycheck next monday. Can't wait for that.
On a darker side, I was right and i hate myself for it: My car stereo got
stolen, along with all the CDs in the disc changer. In there was The Cure
Acoustic Hits, NIN live, and SLG ( damn, just as i was beginning to like
it). Moral of the story: rip your cd's. Rip'em all.
Arija was talking about punk today as opposed to the old school punk. her
comment made me think exactly how important the punk movement has been for
the last 20something years, and also how misunderstood it still is. For
example, and I'm not trying to put anyone down, but I always find it
annoying that people think that the Sex Pistols and The Clash invented punk.
Try an ocean away from the nasty streets of London and Manchester, in NY,
where the CBGB club was entertaining such people as The Ramones, Talking
Heads and Blondie at least three years before the english punk movement
while anotther movement was forming in Seattle, another one in Georgia and
yet another one in Boston. Punk was born not from anarchists stuffed of
fish n' chips, but of urban kids that reached out from brooklyn and
burgeoise young artists living in lofts in Manhattan. The english movement
was fastly politized because in England it was actually a contestatary
fashion. While in NY everyone was fading out from the degrading pop art
movement and tired of disco disco disco, english youngsters found a means of
propaganda that was at anyone's reach. Influenced by the european
anarchists, they criticized politics and the surrounding squarenness of,
well... everyone. Neither Ramones nor any other american classic punk band
has any song that is openly political ( think more of songs called I Wanna
Sniff Some Glue, or how about Burning Down the House??
Punk today is not filed under punk. Whoever believes Blink 182 or Avril
Lavigne are punk should seriously consider going back a couple of decades
and find out where punk went. What would Joy Division sound like if they
were here today? Oh wait, they actually are: they are now New Order, and
they make glorious pop punk songs. What are the members of the Talking Heads
doing now? Tina Weymouth and husband are playing with the Gorillaz, David
Byrne is into salsa and bossanova. It's not so hard to follow the
transitions in history, all one has to do is believe in the continuity of
work.
For example, let's take one, if not the greatest punk band ever: The Pixies.
I can't think of a more influential american band since The Ramones. Pixies
broke up in 1991., but their line of work is perfectly traceable: Frank
Black is still playing with The Catholics, Kim Deal has just released a
Breeders album, Tanya Donnelly, who played with them, created two amazing
punk albums with Belly, and now has another two great albums by herself.
What I'm trying to say here is that we look for punk in the wrong places.
Punk is not only GreenDay and The Strokes, it's also NIN, Radiohead (
especially the last two albums!!! ), Beck, REM, Placebo, Belle&Sebastian.
Punk is not about three chords and screams, it's about the way the music is
conducted from a place of true artistry and emotion. Punk was born not from
anger but from boredom and alienation. Young kids were tired of old
progressive Pink Floyds and silly disco ABBAS.
Most good punk today is considered pop. I'll stand by that anytime.
AANNNDDD:
Megan, I fully understand the feeling, and I must agree, its fucking
terrifying. But stick to it. I mean, imagine yourself in his position. No
matter who the guy is, or how he is, it takes a lot of fucking guts to say
something like that to someone. At least its extremely difficult for me. Do
not feel intimidated, feel flattered, rejoice in it. It's a great feeling,
it will get you through many a day. I read you almost daily, and the one
thing I can say is: he's the lucky one.

I know today will be a long day, not entirely knowing what is in store
and thinking on last year, but I hope you all have a good day regardless.
