  [ =======================>  In RDT History  <======================= ]

On October 1st in 1992, plans for the first RDT fanzine, Tori's
     songs to date.

In 1994, Cornflake Girl/"Possessing the Secret of Joy," an
incensed member fires off a letter to BAM magazine about
derogatory remarks by its critics, a humorous interp of how
most of Tori's songs are about the JFK Assassination
     conspiracy:

"The Waitress" is sung from the point of view of Lee Harvey
Oswald, the other waitress in question being none other than
Jackie O., Oswald's INTENDED target. "Cornflake Girl" -
"The Man with the golden gun thinks he knows so much" is
obviously Jack Ruby. The Banana King is none other than
Earl Warren, since "This is not a conclusion". As for Space
Dog, Our Commander is (still) the aliens from Atlantis who
secretly run the Illuminati. Oh, side one of Little
Earthquakes is sung entirely from JFK's point of view on
Nov. 22, 1963 ("Every day we crucify ourselves", "If I die
today I'll be the happy phantom"). Everybody Else's girl
        is, of course, Jackie.

In 1996, Dew Drop Inn tour news: Tori needs a break, so she
will not be wrapping up with dates in Europe or Australia as on
previous tours. The collective groan from Down Under is heard
'round the world. Also, several nice concert rundowns from
members, Scientology, Blue Skies, what Tori and PJ have in
common, and a poem about Tori for Presiden. A small snippet:

What this country needs is a Fiery voice.
Someone with Vision and Passion and Choice.
Someone inspiring and honest and strong.
Someone who's proud that they DID smoke the bong.

You know what I'm thinking; I don't have to ask.
There's only one person who's up to the task.
This nation's got problems one woman can fix.
        TORI FOR PRESIDENT, FALL '96!

In 1998, a particularly unique RDT contest (Subject:
Tori-written Tori lyric could be yours...). [I remember I
submitted my guess and didn't win, but the contest was clever
and sweet ... by a listmember for fellow members, just because.

cyndi, i wouldn't take my dad to tori because he thinks she's a whiny bitch.
:D lol.
no, it doesn't take 60 other people for me to have sex (unless i set REALLY
high goals this year and turn bi) but um, i've found 4 or 5 guys so far that
are cute enough...oh damn that sounds so shallow. :/ i mean, they are
appealing so far...who knows, they might like, not know what q-tips are and
have massive ear wax build up which would bill them as unsexable. or i'd
just make them clean their ears. constantly.
uh, i bought more panties today. sigh. kick me now. i have about 97 pairs
now. today i bought these ones that say naughty on them and some others.
sigh. i really need to stop buying panties. it's so sick! and the panties
and the bra HAVE TO MATCH!!!! without a doubt. it makes me feel happy and
the guy really should appreciate it more.
i met this really awesome girl last night in my house. her name's lisa, and
we decided that we're gonna be drinking buddies this year. yay. we hung out
last night and then i left her in the rec room because she fell asleep. and
i think i'm moving into one of the sleeping porches because my roommate goes
to bed sooo early. :/
today is my last day of summer vacation. and i really need to stop talking
on the phone for three hours a night with guys from online. it's getting to
be pathetic. but they're so nice! and when they have unlimited night and
weekend minutes, they call a lot! sigh. too bad he lives in california and
is 33. oh well.

happy birthday to megan and bethey. yay! :D

Yup, when my wife left me.

We were becoming more and more miserable, but we just figured it was
something we had to get through. There had been some ugly situations in
the band we were both in, and that didn't help (to say the least). Plus,
the relationship had started based on a certain amount of dishonesty,
which had never been totally resolved.

She came to the realization first, and she immediately became sick for a
month, a persistent and inexplicable illness most characterized by severe
diarrhea (a disorder which tends to make you want to stay home, of
course).

It's tough to break up a marriage when you can't stand the thought of not
being friends any more, and you aren't sure if the friendship can survive
the breakup.

But she finally said it, afraid (as much as she's ever been afraid of
anything, which isn't much) of my reaction, but the minute she said it, it
was like, "oh, of course." It was so obvious.

>From that moment on, we've got along great, and that was some 17 years

Cool.

I'm not seeing many movies these days (lack of funds), but I will see The
Two Towers when it comes out.

If I owned any Tori rarities, I'm sure I'd be selling them here just like
Bethany. I wonder if there's some way to sell all these King Crimson
Collectors Club CDs.

This made me think of the following from Lily Tomlin:

"I refuse to be intimidated by reality anymore. After all, what is reality
anyway? Nothin' but a collective hunch.

"I made some studies: Reality is the leading cause of stress amongst those
in touch with it. (I could take it in small doses, but as a life style I
found it too confining.)

"See the human mind is kind of like...
... a pinata; when it breaks open, there's a lot of surprises inside. Once
you get the pinata perspective, you see that losing your mind can be a
peak experience."

(oh, and there is a Grand Central Station, though I guess your next
question would be whether there's really a John Bragazzi)

As B/4,

John

To whoever made the connection between America deserving 9-11 and Tori
deserving rape for dressing the way she did...

I don't know that Tori was saying that the thousands who DIED in 9-11
"deserved it". From what I read I think she was saying that America has
done some pretty awful things and some people might be after us for those
reasons. There *IS* a difference. One is explaining motivation, another is
justification. Even in "me and a gun" she makes that distinction between
possible motivations and the wrongdoing of the crime IMHO.

It was nice of you to suggest that Tori deserved rape though, if that's
what you were saying...shithead.

know it's a rush just by the people that have done it and watching it...etc.

Julie wrote:
<<seriously, I don't wanna sound like a slut, but I

Hehe, if that makes someone sound like a slut, call me
the queen of all whores. ;-)

So, I broke up with my first boyfriend ever on
Saturday night. I'm sad about it in some ways, but I
know that it was the right thing to do at the moment.
I felt really unhappy being with him, and that
bothered me-- I mean, was it just that I was unhappy
in general, and projecting it on him? THat was a
question that I couldn't answer while I was with him,
so it's over, at least for now. And I feel better
about the whole thing, but somewhat guilty at the same
time because I know that he's sad, and here I am
feeling this intense relief, like a total heartless
bitch.

I'm a little afraid that I'll never be able to fall in
love with someone. I told him that early on in the
relationship, and just last week, he said, "I hope
that if anything has come out of this relationship,
it's that you've learned that you *can* love someone."
Yeah, I love him, but I'm not *in love* with him.
And there was no reason for me not to be in love with
him, except for the fact that I just wasn't.

Jumping (no pun intended) to another topic--> Sky
diving was AMAZING!!!! I have no way to explain it--
I am just not that good of a writer. Also, I haven't
fully processed the feelings from it yet. It was way
too overwhelming and disorienting.

They tell you that you're truly freefalling for less
than 10 seconds before gravity takes over, and then
you reach maximum velocity and fall for about one
minute before opening your parachute. From beginning
to end, the whole experience takes about 4-5 minutes.

Now, it might sound like a minute is an awfully long
time to fall, but I had no sense of it at all. Here
was my experience--

At 13,500 ft (I was wearing an altimeter), they said,
"Get ready to go". The man that was strapped to my
back started moving toward the exit, and I saw my
brother getting ready to go out before I did. I
thought, "I want to say good luck to Jim before he
goes," and by the time "he goes" got through my mind,
he was out of the plane, his wife was out, and I was
out. Then I felt myself falling and being disoriented
for a split second (but in actuality it was probably
10 seconds, before gravity pulled me), and then it
felt like I was flying. The ground was so far away
that I had no sensation of falling or approaching it.
According to what they said, that lasted about a
minute, but it felt like maybe 10 seconds to me. It
was INCREDIBLE! Soon enough, my jump instructor was
pointing at my altimeter, and I pulled the line to
open the parachute. Then I just floated down about
4000 feet to the ground. That seemed to last maybe a
minute, at the most, although they tell me that it was
actually four minutes. It was like being at the top
of a mountain, but along with being able to see all
around you, you can see underneath you as well.

I can't wait to do it again. Maybe then, I'll
actually be able to process what's happening.

Okay, so in other excitement, am I the only one
noticing that Tori is supposedly playing at Riverside
Church in NYC????? Holy crap!!! (again, no pun
intended.) And I was just talking about her playing
in a cathedral organ! Man, I hope they let her do
that! I really hope that this is true, and that
they'll announce a sale date soon. That's going to be
unbelievable!!!

If anyone has any information about that, please let
me know. I am so excited!

~Linda~

hello everyone!

welcome back ChessaRae :)

Julie- is the tori show you're going to your first one? If it is, all I can
say is that you won't be dissapointed :)

Doug- good luck on the move to Unamatrix Zero-One.

Regarding the lack of a tori tour in Australia over the past several years:
I wonder if that might change with Epic? Perhaps I'm being totally naive
about how tour planning work but I would think that it's possible for her to
tour outside of North America and Europe without it becoming a situation
where the tours take up all of her time.

belated birthday greetings to Steve, Doug, Tait, loria, Megan the Succubus
Barbie, and Bethey, who hasn't been to Carousel and never will ;)

(the Sandmen are really inept aren't they? ;) ).

heidi (welcome back!) said about herself:

> an admitted lifelong bibliophile :)

but being a toriphile is still more fun :)

interesting article btw.

julie- In regards to David, perhaps I'm being harsh but there are some words
that shouldn't be so casually thrown around because "not really meaning it"
or "just kidding" doesn't lessen the nastiness they convey.

For that matter I get really pissed when people throw slurs around about
themselves- like the times I've sat cringing when I hear disabled persons
actually using the term "crip". Call me old-fashioned, but I've never
really bought it that being cavalier about words of prejudice somehow
lessens the impact, *especially* when it's done by members of the group the
words are normally used against or by people who otherwise should damn well
know better.

cyndi wrote:

>Subject: woody woodpecker's woody woodpecker.

if john bobbit had lived 200 years ago, a wood pecker might have been what
would have ended up with after that "incident".

beth- I really like what you posted about dealing with pain by realizing
there's no reason for it. Indeed, sometimes being in that state becomes so
"normal" that you forget what it's like not to be hurting and letting it go
is the hardest part of getting out of that state. Feeling good again feels
alien and *that* takes getting used to.

But in the end it's worth it :)

Chris- it's hard to imagine having to deal with one's own family being
racist like what you described about your grandparents. At least you were
able to get through to that classmate though, in a way you were sure he
would understand. Too bad we can't get a large group of people armed with
rotten eggs, rotten fruit, and tar and feathers to show up at gatherings of
racists and neo-fascists.

anyway-

artists that Americans can complain about not touring in the US? ;)

I checked out his site, and it does seem weird- according to the site he's
this big artist, but has anyone heard of him?

Beyond that, what's the deal? I take it despite what he says about Tori and
the other people mentioned on his site he doesn't actually know them, and if
that's the case, isn't there a *huge* legal problem that might come along
and bite him (or anyone else making such claims) in the ass? The quotes
about his material I mean.

What exactly has he been doing to people? is he one of the more infamous
bad traders we've heard about?

Pardon my lack of knowledge on this.

Best part about it is that it takes the heat off of me! ;)

But then she would have to be avoiding you.

brian said to megan:

Unless of course he's totally into Microsoft, which would mean that there's
no soul to eat because Gates already got to it.

hey Julie- good to hear that you're making new friends. Even nowadays when
I feel fine around people for the most part I still get nervous initially
when I'm meeting new people.

from the succubus barbie formerly known as megan:

> I got an early birthday present today from 2 girls across the hall - a
giant posable spider. It's
>so great!

So how many times have you tried scaring people with it? ;)

>I love it! ...And I got glow in the dark stars for the ceiling!
>fun fun fun!

So, when a guy named David Bowman drops by he can comment "My God! It's full
of stars!" ;)

William S. Repsher, burn in hell.

bethey- sorry to hear about bunnicula *hug*

keep us posted about the play.

julie- glad to hear that your dog is fine. Have you looked into having him
trained not to "bolt" when the door is open?

too bad I don't live in Denver Roxanne, or else I could go with you to the
tori show, and I *know* I could help with the parking ;)

taking a wild guess about Cyndi's halloween costume, I'd say one of the
characters from either Grand Theft Auto or SSX Tricky ;)

thanks for the comments about Sept. 11th and my reaction to it, as well as
to what I said about the way the networks have really been overdoing their
coverage.

interesting comments on perception from Jim G.

So lavs, what music are you having played during the delivery? Would be
interesting if Tori was the first thing the baby heard at birth ;)

Just what the hell are people there doing on the trains? I've heard about
the "Mile High Club" for air travelers, but I can't see anything remotely
similar for people riding aboard trains. The worst thing on the bus seats
here in San Antonio is spilled coffee or gum stuck to the seats.

So is Glenn going to be a train driver/engineer as a regular job or was that
just a one time thing? When I was a kid, and before I got into space and
aviation, I was really wanting to be a train engineer. Of course nowadays
it would be totally cool to ride up front aboard the high speed trains in
Japan and Europe ;)

And then there are those two popular witchcraft books: "Hex and Gender" and
"The Joy of Hex" ;)

>just waiting for my family to arrive...

with dread or excitement? ;)

thanks for the clarification about megan's situation with "stalkerboy". At
least he realizes that he's causing some problems even if that's not his
intent. I unfortunately have been there myself- making friends with a girl
and letting my enthusiasm get the better of me, but I did back off a bit
when I was told I didn't need to be so gung-ho about it. Usually they
realized that I *wasn't* trying to come on strong, but still, I wish I had
somehow realized it sooner that I was making someone I counted as a friend
very uncomfortable.

about my pagan televangelist joke:

>that would be funny. picture a man and a woman in the middle of the woods
>wearing bathrobes, holding up quartz crystals and saying (in southern
>accents), "praise da lawd! and da lady!"

that's right up there with my "Pagan Inquisition" spoof of the classic
Python skit ;)

I was thinking of how funny it would be to have a Pagan convention somewhere
in the Bible belt or perhaps in Salt Lake City, and then I realized, how
much weirder would that be compared with something I heard a few years ago
about a huge Baptist convention in Las Vegas ;)

according to julie, it sounds like the toriamos.com message board is
infested with heretics.

cyndi, you need to see Red Dwarf- I think episodes are on video but I'm not
sure. If anything, just keep an eye out for a channel that might be airing
it. Suprised that Sci Fi channel hasn't picked it up, or perhaps Comedy
Central if comedy sci fi isn't exactly Sci Fi channel's thing.

linda, when you go skydiving, either wear a black coat and sunglasses, or
wear a white cowboy hat and wave it while yelling "Yeehaaa" as you jump ;)
