  [ =======================>  In RDT History  <======================= ]

On October 5th in 1992, Anthony does a survey to find out which
countries are represented in the subscribership of RDT.

In 1994, numerous reports that Tori was ill. She had left the
stage during the Madison show on October 4th and was wheeled
out on a gurney to a waiting ambulance.

In 1998, Tori on The Roseanne Show, a quilt for Tori,

In 1999, everyone excited about listening to TVAB.

In 2000, books people are reading, we love Steve Buscemi.

[Interesting only to me: in 2001, I (Violet) had the flu, and I
have the flu now. Like clockwork.]

  [ =======================>  In RDT History  <======================= ]

On October 6th in 1992, "Are there any fans of Sandman on this
list? Anyone know more about the connection between Tori and
Neil?" A couple of cute messages with some details about a
     Dutch TV interview with Tori.

In 1993, a member weighs in on one of Tori's videos, saying:

I have an attention span greater than 2 seconds, which
is why I'm not fond of the 'Crucify' video. It was very
        obviously aimed for MTv consumption.

In 1994, more reports of Tori being ill in Madison, among them
that she had been experiencing chest pains, was clutching her
chest several times during the performance, and collapsed in
Joel's arms backstage. Official sources report that Tori had
suffered an acute case of costrochondritis, an inflammation of
the muscles and cartilage of the chest wall. (Costrochondritis
is not uncommon, most people experience mild cases of it at
some point, but severe cases can be very alarming and painful.)
After an examination, doctors said she would be okay to
continue the tour, but they would keep a close eye on her
condition while on the road. At the next show (October 5th in
Milwaukee), a fan asked Joel how Tori was doing; he said she
was feeling better, but was tired and felt horrible that she
had left the Madison show after only an hour. (For added
interest, Michael Stipe was at both of these shows, and he and
Tori spent the day in Milwaukee together working on the song
for "Don Juan de Marco and the Centerfold.")

In 1996, Father Lucifer on Letterman, the Good Times virus
(hoax, or evil genius?). Also, Stupid Tori Jokes (my favorite
     being):

What does Tori say before surgery?
       "Yes, Anaesthesia!"

In 1997, after several members express sadness at the loss of
the long-time list name "Really Deep Thoughts" and others say
they would like to keep the name of the temporary list
"Thoughts Right Now," a poll is taken on what the permanent
list name should be (back to Really Deep Thoughts, stay
Thoughts Right Now, or be combined as Really Deep Thoughts
Right Now). Also, a lovely Alice Walker piece is posted.

In 1998, what makes a good single, "teenyboppers," violence
completely ruins a Tori show for an RDTRNer (Subject: one week
later, I think I can finally write about this),

In 1999, some deep thoughts about TVAB.

  [ =======================>  In RDT History  <======================= ]

On October 7th in 1992, frictions between the up-and-coming
     fanzine and fan club.

In 1993, some comments from Andrew Eldritch (Sisters of Mercy)
on Tori in Q magazine. Among them:

"This woman just sits at the piano and sings, basically. And
she can do it all perfectly. She's incapable of playing a
wrong note or singing a bum note, and she can throw her
voice around, but sensibly, like you wouldn't believe. It
just reeks of class. And it's very intelligent stuff. Most
records that sound like this are usually pig awful; it's
like the worst side of Melanie. The songs on it are great."

In 1994, a Milwaukee Journal article on Tori falling ill in
Madison and being seen lunching with Michael Stipe the next day
at a trendy Milwaukee eatery. The article also reports that
Tori planned to spend a couple of days in Milwaukee working on
the Don Juan song with Michael.

In 1995, two interesting interviews ("The Tori Papers #2: Tori
and Kennedy" and "The Tori Papers #3: 'Name Your Adventure'").

In 2000, "I have the heart of a child...," fun Olympic
     memories,

In 2001, oh, how we love the "Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" song. Still.

Subject: aaaaaaack!!!!

I am so bloody behind on these RDTRNs that it's not even funny!
ugh.
well aside from the suicide (gee that rhymes) that occurred the
night before my birthday, my actual birthday was really quite calm. :)
First, I woke up, got the bad news, and then went to the liquor store to
buy myself a bottle of peppermint schnapps.. then I went by Kroger cuz I
wanted to cash my checks from my grandmothers.. they didn't let me cuz I
don't have an account with them, blah.. so I went and grabbed a bottle of
wine.. Arbor Mist brand White Zinfandel. delish.
THEN I went back home and ranted to my friends (you guys and
others) about the suicide vs me partying.. and then my mom came home, I
gave her the news, and then we waited for Deanna, Ben, Kenneth and Connie
to come home so that the six of us could go out to eat hot wings.
nummyyy.. :) thennnnn.. I rode in Kenneth and Connie's convertible to
Publix and we got me ice cream and cake.. and then my mom met us at
Kenneth and Connie's house to eat said ice cream and cake. I swear, that
cake tastes better now than it did on the first day! o_O... and
thennnnnnnn I went home.. opened the bottle of wine, and sipped on it.
after I finished that, I opened the bottle of peppermint schnapps and
sipped on that while chatting with some friends. :)
and by the way, today (Saturday) is the day of Randy's funeral
and my mom and dad are at it. I stayed home to watch Bailey until Ben and
Deanna woke up.
also--thanks for the birthday wishes everybody! yay! :)
all right.. now.. ON WITH THE REPLIES!

Beth sent us an url of a really cute flash of a Led Zeppelin
song.. too cute! lol..

Jessica said: "cyndi, i wouldn't take my dad to tori because he thinks
she's a whiny bitch. :D lol."
        well geesh.. he's missing out!

Chris said about that article where the reviewer suggested that maybe
Tori *deserved* her rape: "It was nice of you to suggest that Tori
deserved rape though, if that's what you were saying...shithead."
man.. ya know, we're all thinking that the guy who said that
crap.. needs some mental help. :D

Linda: YAY on your skydiving experience! :)

Simon said to me: "if john bobbit had lived 200 years ago, a wood pecker
might have been what would have ended up with after that "incident"."
and boy would the girls love it.. *rolls eyes*

Simon then said: "taking a wild guess about Cyndi's halloween costume,
I'd say one of the characters from either Grand Theft Auto or SSX Tricky
;)"
nope and nope! here's a hint: BLUE!!!!!!!! blue blue blue blue
blue!! and lots of hair gel and hair spray and mousse (and no I'm not
going as an 80's new wave punker.. it IS from a video game tho. ;) )

--next digest--

The retro mentioned people asking what Mark thinks of Tori singing "Song
For Eric".. well.. I dunno. I wonder how he feels about Tori singing the
songs off of Boys For Pele as they have to do with Eric and other men and
stuff. :D

The retro then said: "In 1998, folks tackling the question of why it is
that most Toriphiles are also NIN fans (especially when the opposite
doesn't seem to be true)."
well, I couldn't tell ya, but I discovered NIN first before I
discovered Tori, so.. :)

Julie said of her "I'm not in love" man: "Some people are really mentally
retarded, he likes to use that as an insult. That's another one of his
big flaws. As I listened to him talk, I'm still noticing and very aware
that he is a jerk, and very ignorant, but for some reason my strange
heart still feels for him...I don't understand."
Infatuation sounds more like what you're grappling with here.
Infatuation tends to make people be like "oh he's so great. Sure, sure,
he's a jerk, he's an alcoholic, he's a womanizer, but he's soooooo cute!
I think I like him!" as for love, I don't think I've experienced that yet
SO I don't think I have any room to explain THAT yet.

Brian on why men like 'em shaved: "Why do men like the short and curlies
shaved off? Same reason. Rash from the bearded oyster."
bearded oyster.. interesting way to put it. lol..

Brian then explained about Melbourne being the anus of the world and then
Tasmania being the pubic hairs of the world. interesting. so what does
that make Florida's panhandle? :D

--next digest--

Good luck with your job interview, Beth!

Julie, good luck dealing with whoever is calling you up to harass
you--you don't deserve that kind of treatment, by golly. :P annnnnd good
luck singing 1,000 oceans! :)

Ade said of her "Sex and Gender" book: "it's an intro to psych class.
that class just plain rocks. today we were talking about biological sex,
conception, genetics, etc., and this girl in my class has XO chromosomes!
 so cool!"
        XO chromosomes? wuzzat??

Ade then said in reply to my "holy testicle tuesday" exclamation: "holy
testicle tuesday? LOL... wow, that's great... it should be a new
holiday!"
thank whoever wrote the script for Ace Ventura 1 and had that put
in. :D

Ade then said: "cyndi, sorry to hear about the suicide :( but don't let
it pee on your parade, go have fun!"
oh, believe me, I did. I feel like it was an act of defiance,
ESPECIALLY since Randy killed himself IN FRONT OF HIS WIFE which was what
made me so furious. I'd have been a teensy bit less ready to party on my
bday if he'd been alone when it happened.
and well.. it's time for me to go eat some more leftover cake, on
that note! fwee! later!

why is that cool? that means she has Turner syndrome and she's sterile. i
dont think thats too cool.

has anyone been to the museum of the city of new york's exhibit on september
11? it's art done by children ages 5-18 in the aftermath of the attacks. i
went into nyc today for the purpose of visiting this musuem, because i have
to do a paper in my Anthropology of the Object class on a museum exhibit. i
was totally blown away by this one, though. it was incredible; art on the
walls depicting the attacks, the emotional responses, the heros, memorials,
and the future. in addition, there was a space on the floor sectioned off
where children could construct a city out of blocks, and a table where they
could make replicas of the trade centers and the pentagon, etc. it was the
most amazing thing. i even bought the book from the gift shop that included
the pictures from the exhibit and commentary from nyu child study center
president, president of the museum, and rudy giuliani. the exhibit is
called "The Day Our World Changed". it's up until january 2003, so if you
have a chance, please go look at it.

also, i'm looking for a long black dress. any ideas where i should look?
i've checked windsor online and bluefly.com, as well as victoria's secret.
i have a very specific look in mind (quite carrie from satc) but at this
point will take just about anything. also, found a coat in a thrift store
on st. marks today that i am now kicking myself for not having bought.
suede coat with furlined sleeves and neck. it was $125 and they're selling
almost the same one in urban outfitters for $158. stupid stupid.

also, i'm seeing tori on 11/16 in conn. and 11/17 in providence. anyone
going to those shows?

i just returned from a concert at the pride ally house on campus. everyone,
go to www.erichiman.com, because eric himan is awesome! he's a super
musician, he's really nice, he's cute, and HE LIKES TORI!!!!! before
playing one of his songs he was talking about playing after some guy who had
the tori amos piano thing going on, and he loves tori but he didn't like the
guy playing. when he said he loved tori, i said "yeah!" and since i was
sitting about 3 feet away from him (he played outside the house until it got
really cold, so he moved to the living room) he smiled and said "ah, we have
another tori fan here." afterwards, when i was buying one of his cds, we
talked about tori, and he said he wants to do a cover of one of her songs,
but he's unsure of it because he wants to do her justice. he used to do
"baker baker" apparently. he wants me to send him my thoughts of "scarlet's
walk" when it comes out so he'll know to buy it. and he's the same as me -
his favorite tori album is little earthquakes and his second favorite is
under the pink. when he signed my cd, he wrote "ade, thanks for listening
and keep listening to tori!" heeeeee, i love eric. he's such a great guy
and singer! go, listen to his music! now! www.erichiman.com!

in other news, today was "make a difference day" and i went with a group to
this nice old lady's house and we did chores and stuff for her. i took a
really long nap this afternoon. yay. goodbye.

Hola mes amies!

I'm listening to Rasputina (everyone! Buy "How We Quit The Forest"! Now!)
after looking at a professional photographer's vision of gothic girls and
victorian faeries! Ohhhhhh I'm in such a mood! Never was there a mood
such as this!

It's Saturday Night and I ain't got nobody to call my own...which means
more time to do my godawful immitation of dancing!

Pray that you never see me dance. It would make you feel wrong. Very,
very wrong.

Actually, "dancing" isn't really the right word. Maybe "Spasm-like
movements with lots of kicking". Or "bad badness".

Hehe. I should take dance class. Then I could make the teacher cry after
witnessing my techniques...or lack thereof.

The photos I was looking at which I found to be so inspirational can be

There is something strangely comforting about having a teddy
bear's rear end propped against my ear while it plays "Teddy Bear's
Picnic" over and over from the music box implanted into it.. Methinks
that this is because that's what I used to do with my teddy bear (which I
still have of course) when I was two until I was maybe eight. very
comforting indeed.
I JUST finished stitching Boy (my bear) up after putting his new
music box in. It's been soooooo long since he had one in him that I feel
like I'm four again. (I don't remember being two or three, even tho I
know I got Boy when I was two..)
On November 31, Boy will be nineteen years old to me--and of
course this doesn't count however many months/weeks/days he sat on the
shelf at whatever toy store my dad got him at and then the days/weeks
spent in the toy factory being made and stuffed before spending
days/hours in a big ol' shipping truck, etc--because that was, to my
understanding, the day my dad came home from a trip, gave my brother and
sister a present (if I recall the story correctly) and pulled Boy out of
his bag/box, wound up the music box, and held him out to me which caused
little two-year-old me to run up, crawl into my dad's lap, grab Boy and
hold his rear end to my ear while listening to the music repeatedly.
From then on, Boy and I were just about literally inseparable. He
was my carry-on (or stashed into my carry-on bag) when I'd get onto
airplanes to fly to visit relatives, I'd bring him to school every chance
I could, I'd pack him with my books to read for long car trips (even if
they were only day trips), and so on.
Even when I got to the stage in my life where I didn't NEED to
haul him around all the time anymore, he has ALWAYS stayed on my bed, and
strangely enough, even as an ADULT, when thunderstorms have startled me
from being able to sleep (they sure do seem to like coming at the wrong
times..), I've always groped around in the dark for Boy and held onto
him, and felt better from doing that.
Recently, (especially this past year) I've been scouring the net
as best as I can to track down where Boy was made, for two reasons: one,
to buy a duplicate for my niece Bailey, and two, to just be able to know
where Boy came from--sort of like someone who was adopted trying to track
down his or her mother.
So far, no luck, but my grandmother found a little white bear
that she thinks looks like Boy, and bought it to send to me and give to
Bailey. I figure that this is at least a step in the right direction, and
even if it isn't, I'm sure Bailey will love the bear anyway. Either way,
I'm just hoping that I can find out the whereabouts of Boy's creator.
Even if I never find out, I can at least say I tried.
        I love nostalgia.

Sincerely, Cyndi S. Crawford
