Yesterday was so damn emotionally and physically draining. I spent eight and
a half hours outside in the middle of campus for roe v wade day. I actually
don't want to get into depths of the day because I'm so glad it's over.
*struggles over large obstacle* I was interviewed on the news, our Pres. was
interviewed on a major radio show in Oregon and we got a lot of press, some
national which was really amazing. And all because some asshole dickhead
fucker stole 1,200 of our crosses out of our President's truck in the middle
of the night. I don't care WHICH side of the damn issue you're on, stealing
something that isn't yours is so fucking WRONG. It's not like one person
alone can pick them up and run. they had to extensively plan it out. We had
to call the police and file a report which was a drag. hi, how do you get
away with 1,200 crosses and what are you gonna do with them? burn them? use
them in a display here at school? chad, our president of college republicans
was like "if i see all those crosses that we made, their ass is mine." amen
dude. even the fucking school paper took our side and wrote this editorial
in OUR favor! they usually hate us! but they wrote something in favor of us!
I was so happy. The stealing of the crosses was almost like a blessing in
disguise. haha.

musical interlude!

megan, in your poetry class do you have to make copies of your poems and
read them aloud in class to be critiqued? i had to make 17 copies last
night. hopefully, things go well next week when I shut up and let 16 other
people and my Hot Intelligent & Inspiring Professor have their way with me.
I mean, it. cough.

*runs away*

Punch line of a poem I wrote is the subject...

So I have my poetry reading tomorrow (Friday) night, and I'm a bit nervous.
No one that I know seems to be going, and I just have this awful fear that
I'll be standing in an empty room and reading to myself. I hope not.

Right after New Year, a woman wrote a letter to the editor of a local paper
that really touched me. She said she was suffering from anxiety and hoped
to start a support group. I called her to give her my website in hopes she
would find a little hope for recovery. She called me back and I told her
about the past decade or so since my breakdown and how I have recovered to
the point I'm at (I still have a ways to go). Yesterday she called me again
and said that she has started her support group and is expecting a couple of
dozen people on Saturday afternoon. She wants me to come and share my
story. I was so flattered that she feels that I have inspired her and that
I can inspire others. Funny... all the time I worked so hard to speak and
not getting anywhere made me just settle down and try to finish my education
before I start my speaking career. Now that I've settled into a students
life, I'm being asked to speak and read and moderate and jesus...it's all so
much so fast.

Wish me luck and send good vibes. I may need them. I'll touch base with
y'all later.

Fairy Blessings,
Bethey
I'm OK when Everything's not OK
cause it's the Fairies Revenge they say
And I have always been a Fairy.

Hey Megan Sackett, I'm glad your back. I'm sorry that your step mother
doesn't like you...that's awful that your dad kicked you out only for that
reason!

But, hey, you're 24 years old, now you can have some more independence I'm
assuming.

That must be a terrible situation to have to go through about the trial and
everything else with your best friend dying like that.

Don't know if there's anyone around who would remember me, but it's John
Kwiatkowski. I was on the list prolly like 2 years ago, and just kinda
left. The digests were too much to read. Actually I've been subscribed for
a while but just read a digest every once in a while. Just thought I'd say

all right, I really don't need to be so far behind on these that
reading these emails is like taking a glimpse into the past.. but
whatever. I just got over a cold. *shrug* so.. hee hee.. on with the
replies, I guess! :)
Firstly tho, have any of you guys heard about thedent.com and its
staying-online troubles? in a nutshell, Mikewhy's fees for it went up..
and we need to help him out!

Beth asked us: "I was wondering, this morning, whether people have a
favorite song (or favorite songs) on the album, and if so, what are they,
and why?"
I've got too many favorites to just name one.. fun. lol.. they
are: Carbon, Your Cloud, Pancake, I Can't See New York, Mrs. Jesus, and
Taxi Ride.
        As for why.. well..

Carbon: it just sounds so.. awesome.. so.. well, you can just hear
Scarlet's desperation to get to her friend in Tori's voice.

Your Cloud: I'm a sucker for love songs.. This kinda sounds like a love
song, and whether it is or isn't, it's really quite faboo.. and the
melodies in the song are beautiful, etc..

Pancake: any song that has to do with, to quote this one, "You give me
yours, I'll give you mine, cuz I can look your God right in the eye / you
used to look my God right in the eye" has to kick ass. I mean.. I dunno.
I kinda look at this as not only the storyline that Tori told for it but
also as "whatzamatta? being tolerant of my religion's not good enough for
you, you little fuck head? huh? get outta here, you make me sick." :D

I Can't See NY: Too beautiful and haunting to really describe it.. but
when I first heard it, after listening to the rest of the album first, I
immediately skipped back to this track and played it on repeat a few
times.

Mrs Jesus: For this one, it's basically the strings and stuff that made
it sound so kewl.. I love it.

Taxi Ride: I can't put my finger on why I love this one, but it's.. it's
certainly appropriate for some reason.

Scarlet's Walk: Mostly the melody and the rhythm is why I love this
song.. like I said in a post aaaaages ago, it strikes a bit of a
similarity to Janet Jackson's song "Special" on her Velvet Rope album.
*shrug*

Gold Dust: THE PERFECT ending to this album.. absolutely perfect and
beautiful and definitely a song that was inspired by becoming a
mother--IMO at least. lol.. The mood of it (minus any cheesiness
factors.. cuz GD isn't cheesy to me) really really recalls memories of
listening to Smile which is the last track on Michael Jackson's HIStory
album. Smile is cheesy as all hell, but the way it sounds from all the
lack of hard beats and so on is probably what makes me coincide it with
Gold Dust.. because GD is also free of any rhythm and beats. It's just
Tori's voice, her piano, and some REALLY kick ass beautiful strings..
BEAUUUUUTIFUL!

Beth then asked us to elaborate on why most of us (or some anyway) don't
like Wampum Prayer.. I think it's cuz it's just Tori's voice.. most of us
aren't used to it. Not even I really like Wampum Prayer, but I certainly
wouldn't take it out of the album because for SOME reason, it just feels
like it's gotta stay. I feel like if it were removed from the album, the
whole structure of the album would fall to pieces. At most, I'd only like
add a very very faint loop of tom-tom drumming.. really faint.. I think
that'd bring the song out a little more.. having some Native
American-style beats in there.. ooooh, I get chills just imagining that!
ooh! :D

Jessica got to kiss lots of ppl on New Years.. YAY!! :)

Aaaaaaaade finally said something to us! yay! "i've just been busy, and i
have about a dozen digests sitting in my inbox, screaming "READ ME!""
try being busy AND stricken with a cold! not fun! :P

Ade then asked: "anyway, anyone see the film "righteous babes?" it
features women rockers (REAL ones, like tori, ani, sinead, etc.), and
tori talks and plays in it. she said something funny about masturbation
in it, but i don't remember the exact quote. great film."
uh.. if you tell me where exactly I can get this film, I, and I'm
sure the other RDTRNers will love you forever. :)

Megan said: "Concerning rap, the only artist that I can stand as of today
is Missy Elliot. I like the fact that of the few songs of hers that I've
heard, she uses onomonoteopia (severe lack of spelling! ARGH!) and has
the nerve to be a size 6 in a size 0 world and doesn't put white people
in automatically second-class positions in her videos, unlike many
others."
AND she only drops lots of weight for HEALTH REASONS (she said
her doc said that she had too high cholesterol, y'see..) and not for "oh
I'm gonna be so sexy and all the guys are gonna be after me!" reasons..
*applause*

Dani said: "Thanks, Cyndi for clarifying a lot of your initial
statements, your last hip hop post gave me even more of an insight of
where you come from, music wise."
I'm more than glad to help you understand just where I come from
on this. *grin!*

I'll participate in your little survey. :D

These days, you'll find me listening to (REGULARLY)..

Tori Amos (of course)
Bif Naked (discovered 'er like.. last month.)
Green Day (occasionally....)
Nine Inch Nails (oh baby. lol)
Marilyn Manson (wooooHAH!)

five years ago, it was..

Michael Jackson (and LOTS of it)
Green Day (a lot more than I do now, unfortunately)
Kid Rock (*shrug*)
The Beatles (still love 'em tho)
Timbaland & Magoo/Missy Elliott (yep, yep! I used to like the "corn-fed
sissy" rap.. as a friend of mine called it once.. and I still do!)

oh and also for the record, I ALSO disagree on the "rappers/hip hop
artists aren't really musicians" statement. :D

Julie said: "The rap music that I don't like is Dr. Dre, P. Diddy, Trina,
Ja Rule, Cash Money Millionaires, Li'l Zane."
ACK! don't call P. Diddy "P. Diddy". call him Puff Daddy! lol.. I
refuuuuuuuse to call him P. Diddy. I might call 'im "Piss Doody" but not
P. Diddy! :P it's stupid. IMO, at least. :D

Beth said: "(I also liked "Stan" off whichever album that was - but
that's the closest thing to a socially responsible song I think I've
heard from him yet)"
That would be off of the Marshall Mathers LP. :D

She then said of acapella Tori songs: "Three! You're forgetting "Song for
Eric." :)"
right, right.. last version of it that I heard tho was with her
playing on the harmonium while singing it tho so.. does that still
count?? I remember she said she sang it acapella cuz as she put it "my
hands don't know what to do when I sing it".. and her singing it while
playing the harmonium on the BfP tour--to me at least--seemed to signal a
"yeah.. it's over.. I'm turning this song into a kind of a "goodbye" to
Eric now." kind of mood.

Brian said: "The last thing any woman should have to face is to give
birth to the child of a rapist."
I agree, but (this is just me, so maybe I'm fucked up and you're
not! :D) I personally would--if I were able to--still have and then raise
that child. At the worst, I'd give it up for adoption, I wouldn't abort
it, even if it were a product of me being raped. That's how I feel about
it right now.. I dunno if my views on that would change if I were raped,
but.. well, I dunno.. *shrug* That's how I feel *now*. :)
question: does opposing abortion in every case, but not rallying
at the clinics (and killing doctors who perform those abortions).. and
basically telling your friends "I really don't want you killing that
baby, but unfortunately, I can't stop you" make you pro life or pro
choice? because that's how I generally act about it, and I like to view
myself as pro life..........

Violet asked: "So what do you guys think about Pete Townshend and the
child pornography thing: was it really research, or is Pete a perv?"
he seems really sincere about it all.. I'm hoping he's innocent.
Here's a better one: R Kelly got arrested on MORE charges of child porn
(fucking underage girls and taking pics of it and stuff).. and he's
already dealing with one or two other charges.. PLUS, keep this in mind:
he settled two other cases involving that.. AND.. when Aaliyah was 15, he
married her! I say the evidence is very much stacked up against him. VERY
much.. and I think the poor man needs to try to fix whatever problems
he's got.

Jai said of Howie Day opening the show and stuff: "i guess he wasn't bad,
but it was disturbing when, having spent, i guess, 40 minutes
enthusiastically strumming away at his guitar and signing into the
microphone, on the last song, halfway through he stops signing the chorus
line, yet it still plays. and then, near the end, he just gave up on the
guitar totally, with no noticeable effect to the music."
did you notice him stepping around a little? That's cuz he was
stepping on his little looper pedal thingies.. that's why you heard stuff
continuing even when he gave up on everything. kewwwwwl, huh? ^^ I wanna
do that myself. lol.. I'd like to see TORI do that. she could do that and
record and loop herself slapping on the piano for Take To The Sky for
example. :D
speaking of that.. if pianos could speak, I wonder what Tori's
piano would say to her slapping it every time she sang Take To The Sky?
:D "ow! ow! ouch! quit it! stop! ouch! dammit! ow!" ? lol..

Julie, to answer your question about awards that Tori has won and stuff,
you might wanna poke around on The Dent. see if that can get you any
info. :)

happy somewhat belated birthday, Joanna! :)

Julie said of her brother: "He played "Liquid Diamonds" at a piano
recital. He played "Bells For Her" at his high school graduation
ceremony. He played "Little Amsterdam" at his high school recital."
okay, you had me at Liquid Diamonds and Bells For Her.. shit,
girl! that's awesome. :) VERY awesome!

Welcome back (if only briefly) from the world of lurkdom, Megan S. :)

Megan S. then asked if she's the only one (sorry.. paraphrasing) who sees
the SW album as a musical.. well, I kinda see it as an epic movie
musical, yeah.. does that count?

OKAY.. I've finally banged through all my backlogged RDTRN
digests.. so.. until next time.. *blows kisses* keep off the grass.... or
something... ciao!

Sincerely, Cyndi S. Crawford

Hey Really Deep Thinkers, okay, so I went to Derek's house today. The thing
is when he called me he didn't tell me Dan was gonna be there. I mean,
don't get me wrong, Dan is really cool also. I've known both of them since
I was 2 and they were 1 in a half. It's so fun hanging out with
them...they're basically my brothers and I love them. But sometimes when we
all get together they kinda take their own interests that I don't have or
opinions and go with it, so I'm left bored at times, and the only one with a
good opinion about something. Anyways, today we were laughing about this
guy on American Idol the other night. Derek always refers to him as "the
gay guy". I mean, the guy was ridiculous, but I wasn't making fun of him
because he was a fambloyant gay guy, I was just laughing at his singing and
other stuff like that. Anyways, they were making fun of how feminine he
was. I wasn't surprised that they were doing that because they often are
closed minded about gay guys. Dan says "that's so gay" all the fuckin'
time. And Derek, well, he only does it when he's with Dan. He watches it
when his with me. Anyways, so after that this is the conversation:

Dan: Do you think that guy was really gay?
Derek: If he talks like that, then yes.
Me: Well, I wasn't making fun of how he's flamboyant, I was making fun of
his singing and stuff like that.
Dan: Why was he singing "My Girl"?
Derek: Well, 'cause no one wants to hear a guy sing about a guy.
Me: Why not?
Dan: He would be like "My Man"
Me: Well, Barry Manolow does that. He's gay, and he sings about women, I
think that's stupid, but that's what he does.
Derek: Well, 'cause no one would buy an album where a guy's singing about
another guy.
Julie: No.
Derek: Julie, just trust me.
Dan: You mean if Janet sung about another woman you would by her music?
Julie: Yes, of course. There's no difference, it's just a different sex.
Dan: That's just weird.
Julie: You 2 both have really closed minds.

I'm so pissed off that they think like that, and that they would think that
I wouldn't buy someone's album if they sung about someone in a
loving/sexual/dating way about that's their same sex. Who do they think I
am? They know I'm very open minded. I hope someday they come to their damn
senses and realize that there is nothing wrong with being gay, lesbian, or
bisexual.

ERR!!!!!!!!!! I can't get over how fucking mad I am.
I love them, and most of the time I have great times with them, but
sometimes they got on my damn nerves.

Current mood: Sick to my stomach, fairly mad
Current sounds/music: "Like I Love You" by Justin Timberlake, "Cry Me A
River" by Justin Timberlake, "Take Me Now (And She Said)" by Justin
Timberlake & Janet Jackson, me singing along, my typing

Subject: The War Against Silence

I meant to mention this ages ago, but the columnist Glenn McDonald, who
writes The War Against Silence and is a big Tori fan, has written his review
of "Scarlet's Walk." I love the whole thing -- it's more about life, and
9/11, than it is about the album. But I wanted to quote one passage in
particular that might grab you guys:

"Tori's 2001 tour began in Florida on 28 September, was in New York for
three nights in mid-October, and wound its way out to San Diego by late
November. We may not have realized it, but in our pain and confusion, we
sent Tori Amos out to check on the country, and Scarlet's Walk is her
report. It's frequently hard to follow, even when it isn't being
deliberately evasive or tangential, but if we wanted journalism, we should
have sent Bill Moyers. This album isn't a census, it's a diary, and the map
notwithstanding, it's less a geography of the country Scarlet walked through
than it is an examination of the marks the country made on Scarlet as she
did her survey. It is de Tocqueville's Democracy in America remade in the
melted-together forms of Koyaanisqatsi and Peter Greenaway's A Walk Through
H, or a 'riverrun, past...' that follows the Mississippi and the Hudson and
the Pecos instead of the Liffey. Tori finds as much old blood as new, as
much empty space between lovers as on the WTC lots, and if we're honest (and
smart), we'd distrust anybody who claimed otherwise. There is only one song
that confronts the attacks directly, and even it turns out to be a love song
caught up in smoke. But this album is the response I wanted, all the same.
Various ideas have been labeled, in the past year, as things that would mean
the terrorists won. I don't think there was ever any chance of terrorism
winning, in my moral system, but for me Tori's America proves exactly how
badly they lost."

I had a thought about "Wednesday," too. On the one hand it might relate (if
not refer) to Neil Gaiman's character in "American Gods." It might also
refer -- and this only came to me last night -- to the day after 9/11, which
was a Tuesday. That was a down day for a lot of people. "Sitting around
being foolish when there is work to be done." And then the ghosts come in
for a visit. Does this ring true at all for you guys?

Beth

Hola mes amies!

New poem! New poem! La de da de da da!!!

Title: Lite.

I woke up and the room was hollow.
Hard to swallow. Lacking value.
Thinning substance spread on shallow.
Nothing left for me to long for.
No more hunger.
No more wanting.
No more lust
and nothing hallowed.
I was left there barely trusting
that the whole of this depressing
life was some absurd mistake.
I woke and prayed I was asleep.

Subject: tori in omaha - march 24

following up to what mike has on the dent,

Tori may be performing in concert in Omaha, Nebraska on Monday,
	March 24!

I received an email from Andi Starr who tells me that he heard on a
local radio station (106.9 The City) that Tori will be performing at
the Orpheum Theatre in Omaha, NE on Mon, March 24, and that tickets
go on sale Tue, January 28. The on sale date is likely too early in
the week, but this looks like a logical place for Tori to perform
during the tour. I have added it to the Dent's Tour Schedule page as
	unconfirmed.

i took a look at the city's website and turned up this snippet <url:
http://www.1069thecity.com/concerts.asp >:

	Tori Amos in Omaha

Just Announced!!! Tori Amos has decided to come to The Big O! 106.9
The City is proud to welcome Tori to the Orpheum Theatre March 24.
Tickets are on sale Tuesday, January 28th.

so this show seems pretty likely...

speaking as one who forgets to eat a lot these days, I find this quite
funny....

life fun interesting. Haggis yummy - if made well. *yay*. Filling too.

More later.
G'day, eh? :)
