Tori Amos

Murat Theatre
Indianapolis, IN
March 18, 2003 - 7:30PM Eastern

Tori Amos is one of the most poignant and honest singers of her time
currently touring behind her new CD Scarlet.s Walk and the hit single
.a sorta fairytale.. The daughter of a Methodist minister and former
choirgirl, Tori Amos didn.t feel the itch for secular music until
attending Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. Tori Amos became obsessed
with the sounds of Led Zeppelin and thus began a career of pop ballads,
memorable piano playing, and a drive unlike many of her contemporaries.
Tori Amos. albums Little Earthquake.s (1991), Under the Pink (1994),
Boys for Pele (1996), From the Choirgirl Hotel (1998), and To Venus and
Back (1999) have made her a mega-star with a cult following. Tori Amos
remade the song .Down by the Seaside. with Robert Plant for a Led
Zeppelin tribute album and has toured with the likes of Alanis
Morissette.

Another ObQuote while I'm at it:

"It doesn't seem like the little star charm should matter to me, but somehow
I'm almost incapacitatingly enchanted by it. There are a bunch of different
kinds of objects in the limited-edition boxes, but the largest number are
these pewter charms in various Tori-esque designs. They aren't exclusive,
they're made by a woman in Wisconsin, and you can order them in bulk from
her web site for seventy-nine cents each. I don't wear this sort of jewelry,
and don't even own a chain to put the thing on, so it's been sitting here on
my desk, on a small cork coaster that came with an Ayumi Hamasaki album. I
glance over at it, as I'm working on something else, and smile helplessly. I
don't know the exact ratio of charm designs to units made, but in lieu of
that math I'm left to imagine that Tori has divided us into scattered
tribes, and I now have to search out all my star-charm brethren and reunite
them."

Also: welcome back to John Kwiatkowski. Nice to see you again. :)

As the world hurtles towards another war where there's jack shit we can do
about it, I'm going to continue on as per normal. On with the inanity.

I'm glad the cricket season is just about over (except maybe for the
upcoming World Cup) for one reason. A particular ad by a certain fried
chicken chain which extols the virtues of the "Cricketer's Box". I don't
know about you, but I don't want to eat anything that comes out of a

a protector, is that plastic cup they put down the front of their pants to
protect the family jewels.

Hope things are going well for you, considering what's going on in your life.

Jessica's stolen crosses in #1786... 1200 of them, huh? I hope they used a
truck, as that's an awful lot of crosses to bear. Bad jokes aside, that was
a low thing that was done. It's really a symptom of the abortion debate as
a whole... people are prepared to go to extreme lengths to make their
point. At least in this case nobody got shot.

Cyndi, your view on the issue is clearly pro-life. You don't need to picket
clinics to be that. I dearly hope you (or anyone else) never get in a
situation where you even need to consider abortion in the case of rape.

Subject: A letter to the Editor

I don't usually watch the President when he gives the State of the Union. I
figure that I get enough of what he said in the next day's paper without
having to subject myself to the speech itself. Most political speeches I
find to be tedious and difficult to follow and I would prefer to read about
it.

But I did watch George W. Bush on Tuesday night. I've been trying to digest
what I heard before I formed my citizens response. The one thing that keeps
reverberating in my mind is that I heard an "I Have A Dream" speech without
the sincerity. Our President has a dream that he can put through Billions
of dollars in Social programs all the while cutting taxes by the Millions.
How does he pay for all of this? Our President has a dream that we will
eliminate our need for oil by driving Hydrogen Cars. All I could think was,
"Hydrogen? Isn't that the H-Bomb everyone was so concerned about when I was
a kid? And what does it have to do with the State of the Union?"

And immediately after hearing him say that every human life is sacred and
therefore, no cloning or "partial birth abortions" should be allowed, I hear
him gleefully talk about terrorists who "have met other fates". If every
human life is sacred, then shouldn't he feel bad about the deaths of those
who weren't arrested? Most disturbingly, he seemed to relish the image of
the lone cowboy riding off to do justice on the basis of what *hasn't* been
found.

The United States of America is not Sheriff for the world. If Iraq has
weapons of mass destruction, then let the World see evidence of this and let
the World decide how and when to disarm. Why is our President willing to
negotiate with North Korea who willingly declares it has these weapons, and
not negotiate with Iraq?

If you spank a child for hitting another, what do you teach that child?
That if you are big enough, and strong enough, hitting is ok? So is the US
teaching that if you actually *do* have a weapon of Mass Destruction, then
you have power enough to defy the world? I'm very confused.

The United States of America is the only country to ever use a "Weapon of
Mass Destruction" on another nation (Japan, 1945). Does our President feel
that we can "defy the world" because of this?

I have a dream. I dream of a day when my President doesn't confuse me so
badly I'd rather not have anything to do with politics. Isn't anyone else
confused by now? I don't know the answers to the questions. But I do know
that no one has the answers at this moment. Isn't it our duty as citizens
of the world to seek out the answers before starting a war that may turn out
to be the last thing humans do to the earth?

Peace,
Beth

2 days ago:

I'm having so much fun speaking Spanish with my Spanish speaking friends in
some of my classes. It's really fun. I'm very interested in it. When I
came back from my gym class and went into my locker room, my bag was wide
opened and some of my things were laying over it including my wallet. It
was empty. I was so fuckin' pissed I could've hurt someone. I packeed up
my things upset as ever and then looked at everyone in the dressing room
with wonder. I didn't really care about the money, I cared that someone
stole from me. That really made me mad.

Yesterday:

I filled out a theft report about my money that was stolen. I saw Emma
earlier in the morning by the computers...I'm so glad I'm friends with her,
she's really a good person. I went to my science class. I was partnered up
with this guy named, Cliff, he has REALLY thick glasses, he asked me if he
looked weird in them, I didn't know what to say, he did, but I didn't want
to hurt his feelings so I just said, "They're just um...unusual." That was
totally the wrong word for it though. I feel terrible for saying that.

I hungout with my friend, Emmanual in science, he's so cool. We don't have
a lot in common, but we're both really interested in the music scene.

In Spanish, I was searching for my Spanish packet that they were going
through. The teacher was going down the lines asking people to answer the
question and RIGHT before it was my turn Emma gave me her paper and she
totally saved me!

The bell just rung, I gotta go.

Ok, so you know how I met Tori Amos in December. Well, my brother just told
me last night that she's coming to our city (we went to a city close by in
Dec) and that we're gonna go see her again. He said that we're gonna get
better tickets 'cause he'll stay home and order them online early right when
they come out. We're gonna try to meet her again also. The only thing
about the meeting her thing is that I bet there are people that are gonna be
there that haven't met her and if Andy and I meet her again it'll be kinda
unfair to them...I don't know, maybe I'm being selfish but we're gonna try
our hardest to meet her again.

Subject: Personalized Scarlet's Walk Stats and Random Tori Quote
temporarily unavailable

As absurdly trivial as this is compared to oh... say, the Shuttle
exploding, I wanted to mention that the "Personalized Scarlet's Walk
Stats" and the "Random Tori Quotes" websites are temporarily unavailable
due to a dispute between the group that hosts btanaka.freeshell.org and
their NSP.

The quotes and the stats will be back very soon. Thanks for your
patience.
