Subject: Remember Columbia, Remember the future.
It's Challenger and 9/11/01 all over again. You know it's horribly real but
your brain refuses to process what your eyes are seeing.
Many of you here know I'm a fanatic about spaceflight, so the events of
yesterday are especially difficult to comprehend. I feel really sick
knowing I've seen the destruction of the Columbia in dreams many times over
the past several years, and despite the irrational sound of it, part of me
can't stop wondering if this could have been prevented and a warning went
unheeded.
I have an uncle who lives west of the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and he confirmed
the news reports of people actually hearing a loud blast overhead at the
time the shuttle broke apart as it passed over the area. Many people had
been outside watching because it had been announced ahead of time that the
shuttle would fly over en route to landing in Florida, which is why we've
ended up with the video of the breakup and debris trailing away.
Despite my knowlege of the technical details of the shuttle, part of me was
hoping that somehow the crew had been able to bail out. No one could have
survived the breakup though.
Makes me wonder just why the hell the shuttle was *never* designed with a
proper escape system.
Erriest thing shown has to be the intact mission emblem patch found in a
field.
And the astronauts who died yesterday had paid tribute to the crews of
Apollo 1 and Challenger during the flight- the anniversaries of those
disasters were Jan. 27 and 28th.
Apollo 1, Soyuz 1, Soyuz 11, Challenger, and now Columbia.
A fitting tribute would to let this steel our resolve and press on into
space, into the future.
I for one would, without a millisecond of hesitation, take a seat on the
next flight.

Subject: bad habits resurfacing
Have you ever had a bad habit that you stopped doing and then you started
doing it later in life? Well, in the summer after high school and the months
that followed I smoked way too much pot. I always justified it as it was
easier than alcohol to get wasted (takes less time) and it's not like pot
has as many chemicals as cigarettes which are really disgusting except for
cloves. plus, i've never smoked a cigarette in my life except for a clove.
So I did smoked pot for like, a year and then hadn't done it again. until
october. i smoked a LOT last term and have kept doing this term. it didn't
help that my dad gave me a couple of ounces last night when I took my
roommates home for a visit. my roommate and i got stoned with my dad and my
other roommate just watched tv in anger next to us. i always say "i should
stop doing this" but i haven't. it's fun and i don't do it if i have a test
the next day or a paper i haven't written yet. last week my roommate and i
played sims when we were really high and it was GRRRREAT!
I don't what to say about the shuttle that hasn't already been said or
thought...I'm thinking about ATTEMPTING to write a poem about it with the
names in italics from Challenger and Colombia. We'll see how that pans
out...
take care,
Jessica

Hey Really Deep Thinkers...my brother gave me an audio documentary of Tori
Amos interviews and other radio people and fans...I think it was from either
1997 or 1996...it was right after Boys For Pele and right before From The
Choir Girl Hotel. Anyways, I just fall more and more in love with her
everytime I hear her. She is truly the most intelligent person I have ever
heard or read or saw. When I say intelligence, I don't mean she's a
brainiatic and an Einstine, I mean, she truly knows what life is about
and...gosh, it's really hard to describe...That's just what Tori is though,
she's indescribible. Like Cyndi signature says, when Tori was asked to
describe herself in 5 words she said, "I Do Not Describe Myself"
Anyways, I'm getting really excited for the show I'm going to in
March!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My brother has a friend that recorded the Milwaukee, Wisconsin December 1st,
2002 show that we were at and now I have a bootleg and I'm listening to it.
It's so cool that I'm hearing the same night I was there.
I get so mad when I hear that person arguing with Tori during "Hey Jupiter"
(Dakota remix) at the show. That was so terrible and disrespectful.
Current mood: Happy
Current sounds/music: "Mr. Zebra" by Tori Amos live from the Milwaukee,
Wisconsin December 1st, 2002 show, "Pancake" by Tori Amos live from the

Why do people demonize haggis? When I heard about it I fully expected this
rank gross dish that made liver sound appealing. What did I get? A really
big slightly-spicy beef sausage. (4 inches thick)
I've eaten -lots- grosser things. That people even consider food. Like
McDonalds hamburgers for instance. Or badly made Steak & Kidney pie. (I've
had -good- steak+kidney pie so I know the difference). Come to think of it
just about any british isle dishes if made badly are pretty disgusting.
Like oatmeal. Yummy if I make it but disgusting at a restaurant. Go figure.
HINT: don't leave out the raisins *g*

The opening date of the second leg of Tori's North American tour in Boca
Raton, FL has been moved one day later to Thursday, February 20!
The show is still at the Mizner Park Amphitheater and all current
tickets will be honored. I am not sure why they moved the opening
date one day forward, but you can see that they have at Ticketmaster.com
<url: http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/0D00362DF1A3F287 >. This should
not affect any other dates on the schedule. Thanks to Brandon and
gabi for this information.
It looks like Tori will definitely be playing a concert in Rapid City, SD
on Wed, April 2, 2003!
This is confirmed by the web site of Bravo Entertainment <url:

who are promoting the Tori shows in Wisconsin, North Dakota and South
Dakota. Thanks to Terry Helmts. Tori is playing there at the
Rushmore Theater.
