I think as fans, we do all we can by going to the concerts, buying the music, writing letters such as yours. She's a brilliant business woman, so, I am sure she knows what she is doing. I made an LJ post about this whole lack-of-promotion thing, and I'm not getting very much help from anyone on my friends list, so I'm going to ask in here--or rather, I'll just paste the LJ post that I made in here for everyone to read: I, as a Tori Amos fan, am fucking sick and fed up with the shitty promotion that her record labels (both Atlantic and Sony) have been doing for her. and to be honest, I think she needs to dump their asses and go through us--the fans--for what the record label WON'T do. you know.. music videos.. tour/TV/concert performances/appearances.. album releases.. and everything in between. I'm very much tempted to fire off a petition to pass around the Toriphile/Ears-With-Feet community for signatures. and I'm not just being dumb and goofy here, you know, I'm dead fucking serious. the Sweet The Sting video, for example, could have been a million times better if I'd directed (and edited) the damn thing! need I say more? I'm fed up with the shitty promotion she's getting, no matter what record label she's on. needless to say, I think all major record labels need to choke on their own piss and die. not the people, mind you, the CORPORATIONS that said people work for. yes, I'm a bit pissed off in regards to this, so humor me. need I say more? what can I do? I'm sitting here trying to rack my brain enough to decide on what to do--whether to fire up a petition or just write letters and encourage other people to do the same, but I don't even know where to begin. or maybe I do, but I can't think of it right now. can ANYBODY help me here? Tori doesn't deserve this crap and I want to help make it not be such a shitty situation. she signed onto Epic to get away from Atlantic's crappy treatment, and she's not getting treated much better, at least in terms of promotion, and I'll say it again--the Sweet The Sting video made me want to weep because I very much could have done it better. argh! so can ANYONE help me out here? anybody? Maybe it's not Sony at all; maybe it's Tori. Maybe Tori isn't into making video's anymore (I mean come on, her video's never make it anywhere. I was totally shocked when the ASFT video made it on VH1's hit list). All through the 90's her videos were almost never played. So rather than sell out and make shitty main stream videos that the public digs but she hates, maybe she would rather not make them at all. Maybe the two she did for the The Beekeeper, she did at the urging of Epic, but I know Tori makes the ultimate decisions about her music and any videos she makes. I thought The Beekpeeper was very well promoted this time around; thanks to her promotion company that she and John Witherspoon started (The Bridge Entertainment Group). Tori and her staff are in a large part responsible for her promotion now adays. So maybe you should bitch at Tori (or her promotion company).
