Subject: Tori Promotion
Honestly, Cyndi, I don't get what you mean by lack of promotion. I
thought TBK was well promoted (at least in my area). I saw magazine and
newspaper ads for the album, commercials for the Summer of Sin Tour; ads
for the book were everwhere, and our local adult alternative station,
KBCO, plays her music regularly, and on every tour she's a guest in
their Studio C. So she doesn't dominate the video world, big deal.
Nobody can have it all. I don't much care if she makes videos or not,
because I'm not at all a fan of either MTV or VH1, and I don't watch
either one. Considering she tours heavily and sells out nearly all of
her shows; I'd say she's doing pretty well. She makes her money by
touring and merchandise sales. Sony gets nearly all of the profit from
album sales--that's true with every record company and every artist.
She's doing what she thinks she needs to do to be sucessful, and she is
sucessful. How could anybody doubt that?
Seven years ago, nobody I knew, knew who she was, now I hardly ever run
across someone who hasn't at least heard some of her songs on the radio.
Does it get any better than that?
Roxanne

one assumes this is a promotional cd rather than a proper cd single release.

ARTIST: TORI AMOS
SINGLE: CARS AND GUITARS
"Cars and Guitars" is the new offering from Tori Amos' latest album,
"The Beekeeper." As an artist very much in control of her sound, it is
a credit to her production skills that she has created a pop-leaning
song while maintaining her alternative roots. The lighthearted nature
of "Cars and Guitars" is conveyed with skipping drums, a touch of piano
and chants of "cha ch ch cha," wrapped in a blithe melody. Since her
lyrics always have layered meanings, no clear interpretation of the
song is apparent: Lines like "If I choke boy you start me up
again/Restring my wires y'know/This gear box can make the shift polish
my rims" are full of possibilities. But the words do relay a sense of a
relationship lost, adding some bitter to the music's sweetness.

Subject: hello there
Hello everyone.
Some of you may know me, some may not.
I decided to resubscribe after skipping through the archives and realising
that I was no longer really subscribed because while my old email may
still be receiving the digests, I can no longer access my old email.
So here I am again.
2005 was a busy year.
I was supposed to move to Costa Rica this year, and instead lost a love.
It's tough being dumped right before you pick up everything for someone,
and I am still spending time getting over it. Both my cats suffered a lot
of health issues this past year, and I'm still dealing with that as well.
Things are not all bad. Good things in brief: I went to New York City to
see an old RDTRN'er who was gracious and opened his apartment for me to
crash in. *cheers to the Wild one*. I saw Tori twice, both with good
people. I enjoyed the shows. Am lukewarm on the Beekeeper. Decent stuff
on it, but too much 'filler'. Too long. Went to Minneapolis and Chicago
to see my second favourite band of all time, Idlewild, rip through two
sets of blistering awesome songs. Hung out with the band, flirted with
bass player. Inara George opened. She's brilliant, and you should check
her out. She's the daughter of Little Feat guitarist Lowell George. Saw
Margaret Cho in Indianapolis. Drank many delicious martinis, fabulous
scotch and red wine. Turned 32. Found my first grey hair, but after a
wee time of freaking out became really quite ok with it.
How are you?
~loria~
'say "keep within the boundaries if you want to play." say "contradiction
only makes it harder." how can I be what I want to be? when all I want to
do is strip away these stilled constraints and crush this charade shred
this sad masquerade I dont need no persuading I'll trip, fall, pick myself
up and walk unafraid I'll be clumsy instead hold my love me or leave me
high. walk unafraid I'll be clumsy instead hold my love me or leave me
high.' - JMS, R.E.M.
