Subject: Life...Or something like it...

Greetings y'all,

What a year it has been in my life and in the world. To know my thoughts
about the world, go to my website and see the link to the Crestiad. My
column is in every issue as well as my meeting with Tori Amos (in the first)
and getting a tattoo (in the last). My classes went fairly well, having
earned a 3.75 average (yet I still berate myself for not doing better), and
I'm looking at graduation in one year with a BA in Communication with
Honors. Then, as I have been saying for a while, I'm hoping to get into
Lehigh University to earn my Masters in American Studies.

Although my life is going well, I find myself single once again. The really
nice guy from Philadelphia City Hall turned out to be not who he said he
was. He was extremely skilled at being who I needed, saying what I wanted
to hear and never dissenting. Yet, what I took for acceptance turned out to
be acquiesces.

I need a challenge in my life. As a passionate person, I need a passionate
partner. I hope I'm not wrong, but I feel I need to hold out for someone
who can teach me, not just learn from me. I have found the deepest core of
me and I don't think I can settle for anyone who is not flying in the same
plane as I am. I guess it boils down to I'd rather be alone than to end up
with less than what I want and need. Nothing is better than "better than
nothing"; to wit, a relationship that doesn't mean as much as it should. I
know I will be with someone who inspires me, and I am willing to wait until
I find it.

This is not to say it wasn't extremely hard telling him that it was over.
He wants to remain friends, but that won't last once he finds someone else.
I don't want to find myself alone in the world again, but maybe now I have
the confidence that I lacked before. As I told Henry, perhaps this is the
way it's meant to be. He's much more confident and relaxed, far from the
clean-cut, uptight dude that he was. And I am much more confident about my
social skills. Perhaps we were together in order to get to the place where
we can find what we both need.

Despite it all, life is good and I'm still as optimistic as ever. I hope
your lives as going just as well.

Y'all take care, and let me know how you are.

Fairy Blessings,
Bethey
