Ah, but remember the kid that taught it to you probably learned it in a
similar way. Although sometimes I think some kids are born already
knowing all the weird and crude things we hear them saying- a bizarre form
of the collective consciousness ;)
>well i spend waaaaaaay too much time online, so that would explain a lot
>now, wouldn't it?
No such thing as too much time online!
Daniel wrote about "shadow people":

>woman for about a few seconds. I did not know her nor I have ever seen her
>in my entire life.
Did you ever find out who might have lived in the house before? Many of
the real ghost encounters people have described aren't the "hauntings"
depicted in movies, but rather something very similar to what you've
described- seeing someone for a few seconds or so when you know no one is
supposed to be there, like entering a room and knowing you just saw someone
as you entered but they're gone by the time you actually get in there, or
sometimes seeing someone out of the corner of your eye for an instant (like
the "shadow people" talked about on the radio program I mentioned).
What is actually seen varies- some people have seen a transparent image of
a person, others get a quick glimpse of a shadow person, and some have even
seen someone apparently physically present and not initially obviously a
ghost. Those are the most intriguing because the witnesses sometimes don't
realize what they've actually seen until later. A good example of this are
the reports of "crew" seen aboard the decommissioned USS Hornet (US
aircraft carrier now on display in San Francisco bay). Various crewmembers
have been seen by people touring the ship, and the only clue that something
isn't quite right are the outdated uniforms and work clothes the "phantom
crewmembers" appear to be wearing.
>Call me a stupid, But I think that she was a shadow person. I am xtremely in
>desbelief on many things esotherical, but I do belief in others, go figure.
One can believe in such things and still be skeptical- I'm personally very
fascinated by all things unexplained and unusual but at the same time I'm
not quick to jump on *every* story as automatically true.
But so many credible people have had similar experiences that IMHO there
has to be something to it.
>One thing I can tell from my own experience are this things, sometimes I see
>for about a few seconds people I don*t know and they are gone.
The radio program I was talking about had numerous calls from listeners,
over several nights, describing things very similar- all variations of
ghost or shadow people accounts. The fact that so many people have
reported similar encounters means IMHO that there's much more going on than
most people will readily admit. My parents are *very* skeptical about
things like this and yet even they've admitted to having seen strange
things in their house, like thinking they've heard one of the dogs in
another part of the house only to look around the living room and see all 4
dogs present, or the times they've found the light in the "computer room"
(my old room, now my father's "office space") on when no one had been in
there, and they know the light was off. It's a touch sensitive lamp, and
it is possible that one of the dogs were turning it on or off by sniffing
around it, but it's been found turned on when there's no way the dogs were
near the room. It happened to me almost a year ago when I was staying at
the house while my parents were out of town that weekend. Freaked me out,
and I was *hoping* that one of the dogs had sneaked in and turned the lamp
on while I was in the kitchen getting a coke.
I recall some nights when I was younger living in the house where I'd wake
up and think it was morning because I thought I heard my dad in the
kitchen, only to look at the clock and see that it was still the middle of
the night, and there was even an incident when I was 13 when I awoke and
looked at the clock and it read 6:15am, and I was wondering why the alarm
never went off- but I got up and got dressed thinking I had overslept a
little (it was a school day), and headed to the living room, wondering why
I was the only one up, when I looked at the VCR clock showing the time to
be around 1:15 or so in the morning. Somehow, wide awake, I saw the time
to be 5 hours later than it actually was, and upon returning to my room I
saw that my clock did indeed show the correct time (1:15am).
>Sometimes

>feeling that someone had been whispering my name during a long time in my
>bedroom till I woke up, and I was left with the feeling of forgetting
>something or someone.
You know, I've had the same thing happen. Doesn't happen all the time, but
there are periods off and on over several days where I'll get to sleep
relatively early, and *something* wakes me up at the same time each
morning, around 4am or so. It was happening just a couple of months ago as
a matter of fact, and I kept waking up at the same time for several
mornings in a row with a very strange sensation, like I thought I heard
something that second or so before I actually woke up.
The creepiest thing is when I've heard what sounds like a loud but
unintelligible whispering, like when you hear a radio station breaking
through the static, then it fades out again.
>Shortly after that I remembered situations from my
>childhood I had long buried in my memory.
That's a very odd feeling when you suddenly recall something from a long
time ago but you can't remember what triggered the memory.
>Also after my grandmother died I had for a long time the feeling that at
>several times my grandmother was in her house, and at night during a short
>period after she died I could hear from my bedroom the sound of the wood
>against the floor that her chair that moved used to make.
Now that's a lot like what many people have experienced shortly after a
family member has died, almost as if they're returning one last time to say
goodbye.
>Once I read that in ancient mythology there was the belief that dreaming
>about strangers or people you did not know, did not mean anything special,
>but these people were indeed real, and they were trapped in some sort of
>parallel astral plane.
On the same radio show something like this has been talked about as well-
the existence of parallel timelines, planes, or dimensions, and some of the
shadow people or ghost sightings might in fact be those alternate
"realities" crossing into this one for a brief time. Which makes me
wonder: are we in fact the shadow people of someone else's reality or
dimension?
>And that they only could make contact with people
>through dreams. Most of the time you just dreamt about them once, but it was
>a more serious matter if you dreamt with a particular unknown person many
>times in a row.
Some dreams do in fact feel like a look at an alternate timeline or
dimension, including meeting "strangers" that seem to fit just fine into
the "alternate" version of reality you're seeing in the dream- again, I
wonder if we are the "strangers" that appear in the dreams of people living
in alternate or parallel dimensions/timelines/realities.
Over the past several months I've been having a series of dreams where I'm
attending some sort of school, but the really freaky thing about it is that
every dream feels like I've "slipped" into an alternate "version" of the
present, and every time the dreams occur it's always felt like they're
happening in real time- I mean as if I'm sort of slipping into something
ongoing, already in progress, and time has elapsed *between* the times I've
had the dreams. And it's not simply a weird recall of past experiences.
>Finally I want to tell you guys, that I think that these thing about shadow
>people is true, becuase I tend to see them or feel their presence when I am
>sad, depressed, feeling lonely or having emotional issues.
Perhaps being in a "low" emotional state leaves one more receptive to such
things, similar to the way one senses such things in that relaxed state
just prior to falling asleep.
>I also think that
>Children and animals are far more perceptive than grown ups.
This fact was the premise for why in the "Quantum Leap" TV show of the
early 90's
that only animals and young children could see Sam and Al. Dogs and cats
have hearing and a sense of smell way beyond that of humans, and while
their vision is more limited in regards to color, they're much more
sensitive to seeing motion than humans, which would explain why it looks
like they're responding to, and sometimes even chasing things that aren't
there.
> I recalled once
>being alone at my house becuase my parents and sister went out. I saw this
>person in my backyard and when I turned my head to see it again it was gone.
>Out of the blue, my dog who was sleeping headed towards that particular spot
>on the yard where I had seen this Thing, even though I was not nearly close
>to that place.
Many of the people calling in to the radio show about shadow people were
describing how their dogs or cats were obviously seeing and hearing someone
or something that wasn't there, to the point of trying to follow whatever
it was they were seeing.
>My dog barked in a angrily way, and them sort of became frightened and began
>to moan.
I've seen dogs do that- not terrified, but more like the way they startle
and bark when someone suddenly jumps out at them. The dogs my family has
had over the years all have done that to varying degrees, and it's always a
little creepy when they're intensely "tracking" something that isn't there-
or is it?
>Very interested subject indeed, Simon! :)
I had no idea it would strike such a nerve! I'm glad other people are into
things like that :)

I originally had wanted to get into astronomy and space science as a career
(including wanting to be an astronaut!) but math was the one area I always
had trouble in. Still, I've always enjoyed reading and studying science is
still a hobby of mine- and me having cable is for the documentary channels
rather than the movie and sports channels most people get cable for ;)
Seriously though, I had a similar experience when I was 10 and my father
was taking a college intro to astronomy course, and I recall having an
absolute field day borrowing his textbook and study notes. That was also
when I had just gotten a telescope and I just couldn't get enough of
observing things- even with that telescope, a 3 inch reflector I could
still get great views of Jupiter's largest moons, Saturn's rings, and
excellent close-in looks at the moon.
On the subject of reading a lot- am I the only one who as a kid was both
commended and griped at for reading so much? I know my interest in space
and astronomy really was a sore spot with some people, like I was doing
something wrong, but I've never totally understood why one should be so
angry at someone for enjoying learning things on their own.
I admit it though- I never got overly enthusiastic about school but I did
about learning in general. Sometimes I think I learned more just from my
own reading rather than in school- not criticizing the teachers I had, but
it always seemed like they weren't allowed to make things more interesting,
and it always felt like everyone was focusing more on the few things I
wasn't that great at *over* the other things I was doing well in.
I understand the concern about being too into just one thing, but for a lot
of people, pursuing something they're passionate about really can help them
learn about a lot of other things. My interest in space and astronomy,
over time, led me into reading about history, geography, and politics.
anyway, it's great to see more people who are into astronomy :) and
definitely read "2061" :)

Oh yes! Pets really do pick up when someone isn't feeling well, or when
they're excited. My sister's dog seems to be able to wake someone up just
by sitting by them and staring at them quietly for a few minutes ;)

The original is scary, the sequel (as it seems with many horror film
sequels) is lame. Didn't really *look* related to the first movie.
Perhaps not being based on King's novel might have something to do with it.
Last time I checked, he didn't write a sequel to the first book ;)

>It's absolutely painful to have one's attempts at artwork torn into by
>critics. And yeah, I know that having a thick skin is entirely necessary
>when you produce something for public consumption, but that doesn't excuse
>being unnecessarily rude.
Very true! It was dealing with initial nastiness that kept me from doing
anything creative for a long time- back in '93 during the first few months
I was in a wheelchair I was obviously having a difficult time trying to
adapt I wrote a couple of short stories describing what was going on and
what I was feeling. My classmates in the creative writing class I was in
were really supportive and the response was very positive, with very
helpful critiques. At the same time though, a disability counselor I was
seeing had asked to read the stories after I had told her about how well
they had been received in the writing class. So I handed her copies- and
when I saw her again a few days later I was totally freaked out when she
read me the riot act for having written what I did. I mean she was royally
pissed, like she had been personally hurt by what I had written and went on
and on about what a liar and manipulator I was, when all I had done was
write a very honest and emotional account of what I had been going through.
Not knowing any better, I believed her when she told me that I had mocked
people with "real" disabilities by what I had written. Paradoxically, by
being open and honest about my situation and how I was trying to handled
it, I *lost* credibility with someone in a support role, and that seemed to
be a problem I encountered for the first couple of years or so in the
chair- pure nastiness from *within* the disabled community because I was
expressing myself in philosophical and emotional terms instead of keeping
things "clinical". It's weird as hell when the more you tell the truth,
the more some people swear you're a liar.
Thing is though, recently it started occuring to me that looking at what
happened outside of all that, people *did* want to know what I had to say
about it, or if they disagreed they were still civil about it. The irony
is that people outside the so-called "disabled community" overall have been
pretty cool about things, and based on that I'm looking at what I can do to
update what I experimented with writing about back in 1993, and beyond
that, just in general trying to be creative without being phased too much
by the occasional nasty reaction. The nasty reactions do perplex me
though precisely because the reaction is so totally out of proportion to
whatever it is of mine they're reacting too- huge difference between an
honest critique and acting personally insulted and angered by something I
had assumed to be relatively innoccuous. Like when I've aired space-themed
material on the cable access show I used to produce, and I'd get this
venom-filled calls on the voicemail feedback for the show- going as far as
the caller cussing me out and vowing to call the cable company about having
my show banned.
Anyway- my point is that I totally agree about having to have a thick skin
about one's creative works. The challenge is trying not to get freaked
when you do something positive and someone still shits bricks about it (the
people bitching about the space shows I did must have been sitting atop
their own Great Pyramid! ;) ).

Yeah right. we all know it's because koba kept calling you "that Roo-sen

Just like I used to not use my first name when I was younger: to avoid all
the "Simon says" jokes, as well as the referrences to an electronic toy of
the same name that was on the market in the late 70's when I was a kid ;)

Oh, I didn't mean the MUSIC was crappy. I meant the SOUND QUALITY of the
audio samples I heard was crappy. Realaudio SUCKS for conveying anything
about how a song really sounds, which is part of why I don't
like amazon. Does CDnow use a different sound format for their
samples? Which one?
Regarding the press release woj posted: I went into some depth about this

is getting their Matts confused. Matt Cameron DID play with
Soundgarden, and both of them, at different times, have played

Amos Plans 'Scarlet's Walk' In Fall
Singer/songwriter Tori Amos has slated an Oct. 15 release for her next
album, "Scarlet's Walk." The set will be her debut for Epic following a
13-year association with Atlantic, and is the follow-up to last year's
"Strange Little Girls." A U.S. headlining tour is being set up for the
fall, with international dates to follow, according to Epic.
Author Neil Gaiman, who wrote a story about the "Strange Little Girls"
characters for Amos' 2001 tour program, offers some insight into "Scarlet's
Walk" on the artist's official Web site. "The CD's about America -- it's a
story that's also a journey, that begins in L.A. and crosses the country,
slowly heading east," he writes. "America's in there, and specific places
and things, Native American history and pornography and a girl on a plane
who'll never get to New York, and Oliver Stone and Andrew Jackson and
madness and a lot more. Not to mention a girl called Scarlet who may be the
land and may be a person and may be a trail of blood."
"Scarlet's Walk" was produced by Amos, and recorded in Cornwall, England.
The set reunites her with in-demand session drummer Matt Chamberlain, who
has recently recorded with Lifehouse, Liz Phair, Jeffrey Gaines, and Fiona
Apple. Chamberlain also played on "Strange Little Girls," as well as Amos'
1999 release "To Venus and Back" and 1998's "From the Choirgirl Hotel."
It's probable that he will also hit the road in support of "Scarlet's
Walk," as he notes in a post on his official Web site that next month he
will "fly to Cornwall to start rehearsals with Tori."
Bassist Jon Evans, who appeared on "Strange Little Girls" and "To Venus and
Back," also plays on the new album, which will be preceded by the single "A
Sorta Fairytale." Epic will service the single to U.S. radio outlets in
August for airplay consideration late in the month (an exact date has not
yet been set, according to the label).
Released last October, "Strange Little Girls" debuted at No. 4 on The
Billboard 200 and No. 3 on Billboard's Top Internet Albums chart. The album
-- which featured interpretations of songs by Lou Reed, Depeche Mode,
Eminem, and others -- has sold 357,000 copies in the U.S., according to
Nielsen SoundScan.

Tori Amos's Epic Debut Set For October 15
07/16/2002
(7/16/02, 4 p.m. ET) -- Tori Amos, who was let go by Atlantic Records, has
surfaced on Epic Records. Scarlet Queen, Amos's Epic debut, is due October
15. The self-produced collection was recorded in Cornwall, England.
Scarlet Queen is Amos's seventh album. Her last effort was 2001's Strange
Little Girls, an album of interpretations of songs by various songwriters.
Amos has two platinum albums, 1994's Under The Pink and 1996's Boys For Pele.
Amos is currently setting North American tour dates for the fall with
European dates to follow.
Amos's friend Neil Gaiman wrote about the new album on Amos's website,
"CD's about America--it's a story that's also a journey, that begins in
L.A. and crosses the country, slowly heading east. America's in there, and
specific places and things, Native American history and pornography and a
girl on a plane who will never get to New York, and Oliver Stone and Andrew
Jackson and madness and a lot more. Not to mention a girl called Scarlet
who may be the land and may be a person and may be a trail of blood."

Obviously Soundgarden recorded with A&M and not with Epic, or the firm would
know that their drummer was incredible Matt Cameron, and not Matt
Chamberlain ( who is also incredible ).

Hola mes amies,
Today I went to a 'feast', which was basically me, Ade, Sam, and Laura
getting together at Laura's house to eat food and play 'wetball' over a
frog spitting water while her brother burned things.
Fun!
I am so very tired now. Really. I'm not lying. Annnnddddddd my knee
hurts. I have no idea what I did to it. It's very sad.
I have absolutely nothing of interest to say.
That windows RG thing was really great. I liked the bloody paperclip!
(yay! blood!)
I should sleep, as I'm tired and may have to get up early tomorrow, but I'm
an idiot who doesn't do things wisely.
Today at 11:30 pm I was at a playground with Ade and Sam. Very fun. Ade
wouldn't shut up. AND she threw tennis balls at me in eigth grade!!!!!!!!
(hehe)
I'm so evil, my knee hurts.
No, that didn't make sense.
I'm going to go now. Goodnight. Goodbye.
