  [ =======================>  In RDT History  <======================= ]

On September 5th in 1993, an announcement about a new album is
posted, although the title is still unknown.

In 1994, members discuss the Flying Dutchman myth, a member
posts about going on a seven-concert Tori tour, someone who is
selling an allegedly original "YKTR" cassette tapes tries to
ply would-be buyers with the line, "It also still has that new
plum smell that some cassettes have when you first get them."
     (?)

In 1997, a list member posts details about Princess Diana's
funeral and some of the immediate aftermath of her death,
including the rewritten lyrics to "Candle in the Wind" by Elton
     John and Bernie Taupin.

In 1998: a celebration of the one-year anniversary of the most
recent reincarnation of the mailing list, Really Deep Thoughts
Right Now. Violet put together an entire retrospective digest,
including a list member's spoof lyrics to "Etienne," "ATM:"

        Oh, ATM, ATM,
        Press for English
        Enter your PIN
        ATM, ATM,
Get some money, maybe I can spend as
        Much as I can

In 1999, a list member writes about being "threatened" by a
girl with fairy wings at a recent Tori performance on "Good
Morning America," discussion of the band Days of the New, and a
list member has a new book for sale (this book can still be
ordered, go here for more info:
     http://www.devin.com/echoes/dreambrother.html).

In 2000, art and egotism, one list member posts about whether
or not violence begets violence, and if so, how.

In 2001, list members answer the question "Which five people
would you invite to a dinner party, if you could invite
anyone?" More menstruation stories, Christianity and Wicca.

  [ =======================>  In RDT History  <======================= ]

On September 6th in 1994, several reviews and interviews are
posted, including the Tori interview with Sandra Bernhard from
"Interview" magazine in which they discuss fake lips, fidelity,
Kennedy the Republican MTV VJ, sexuality, the New Age movement
     and more!

In 1996, two articles are posted, both of which refer to Tori
     as unintelligible and strange.

In 1997, more discussion of Princess Diana's death, the MTV
video music awards and Fiona Apple.

In 1998, a list member posts about the difference between
simple and simplistic in terms of Tori songs, pigeon-holing
     Tori's music and her fans.

In 1999, more about Juarez and violence against women and, as
one listmember puts it, "Tori's musical ability vs Tori's
     Goddessness."

In 2000, the birth of Tori's daughter is announced, her name is
     yet to come.

In 2001, more five people at a dinner party.

  [ =======================>  In RDT History  <======================= ]

     On September 7th in 1993, a member begins a formal-ish poll of
favorite Tori songs and a "Greatest Hits of the Eighties"
commercial strikes fear in the heart of one member, who
protests that the Eighties weren't that long ago.

In 1994, list members discuss lyrics from "Me and a Gun" that
are excluded from live performances, the "least favorite Tori
     song" question is posed.

In 1996, a list member gushes about the musical "RENT."

In 1998, the orgasm-inducing remixes on the "Raspberry Swirl"
single, meeting Tori stories, Francesca Lia Block
recommendations, even more six degrees of Tori, dreams about
teeth and what they mean, and long-lost 80s toys.

In 1999, members discuss internet relationships and more Tori
as a Goddess, resulting in this quote:

Perhaps, but I for one think that if Tori is a vehicle for
healing, so to speak, it is worth any number of Rock Halls
of Fame. I place personal happiness above all forms of art,
wondrous though the arts may be. Which is not to say that
Ms. Amos has healed me of anything, because she hasn't,
sorry to say. However, it's a fairly safe bet she *has*
helped many people, and if the resulting goddess-obsession
sometimes dwarfs her musicianship, so be it. Anyway, it
doesn't actually make her any less of a musician...

In 2000, lots of people post congrats and their thoughts about
Tori's baby, including musings over whether or not her music
     will change as a result.

Hey everyone,

Just like Adam (who btw your post didnt bore me) .. I have re-subbed
to the list..

Somehow I managed to trip up on some old posts I had made back in 1998
or something, and then I got onto the RDTRN website and was like 'holy
shoes!' the list still exists??

Umm so I was in college back then, now im one of those working
girrls.. living outside of Philly (wouldnt have it any other way) and
doing the whole 9-5 thing.. grr. Consuming lots of coffee, and smoking
many more cigarettes than before, but hey im in love and its ok :)

Woj -- I swear I saw a posting of yours at the Sarah Slean Navy Soup
list.. was it you?

Beth Coulter -- hi hun, got your updates about the website, and the
math course... so glad that you rocked that! :)

Becky Wall -- are you still on here hun?? hope that you are doing well
and that you are finished with school :)

everyone else -- is there anyone who remembers me that i forgot to say
hi to? :)

its funny to think back to 1998.. i was a sophomore in college and
still living at home (yuck!) had some massive problems living there,
only to find out a few years later (2001) that I was clinically
depressed.. sheesh! :(

umm got to see Tori here at the Tower Theatre (yuck - it was going
through renovations).. and there are some of the pics i had gotten from
the show floating on the internet ;)

umm if you want to see any of the creative things ive been up to:

 http://mywebpages.comcast.net/littlebluegrl

otherwise, tootles and faery hugs to all!

Adam, three cheers to you for saying that you were unimpressed with SLG. I
will just say that I think that album was pretty bad but I have high hopes
for scarlet's walk because they're HER songs again as opposed to cover
songs. She was trying to make a statement with that album by covering songs
written by men and no one really got it. Plus, I think it cheapened her
vison of WHY she even does covers. I was reading the album bio (of scarlet's
walk) on the dent before mikewhy removed it and wow, that was just
incredible. too bad tori's asinine management made him remove it because it
was really great to read. As for her touring, if I don't like her album and
she comes to Oregon, I won't go see her but I bet that if I do like it, she
won't come here anyway.
oh and speaking of decisions, I decided that if we go to war with iraq I'm
changing my political affiliation to independent. I can see this happening
before the end of the year.

The right kind of smile...
a happy thought - RDT's good for those :)

and now some complete randomness

Has anyone noticed a match between "future shock" and "Borderline Personality
Disorder"? or at least a -lot- of correspondence. Mind you I like the book
"shockwave rider" better for ideas...

I just found out today Dick Chaney (issat right)? is vice-pres of US. This
is what I get for being in another country - I thought he was a newsy of
some kind. *grin*

Canadian Senate wants legalization of marijuana - basis is "war on drugs has
been out and out lost - at least in this case". This could be interesting. I
personally consider the stuff just slightly less dangerous than either alcohol
or cigarettes... both of which are controlled substances in Canada.

The thing that rocks about my current job is I pick my hours - as long as I

Was at Viking wedding last saturday on a longship. houseravenspeak.com'll
probably have pictures soon - the core couple of them got married. VERY
romantic. I got to row *yay* Visting with Asatru Godi was fun - he good guy.

umm more thoughts but I gotta go - I only got so much access to 'net.

G'day, eh? :)

Ooh, another site for me to spend hours on! I've just finished going through
fontmaster.com, and got about 3/4 back, so I'm definately much happier about
it all. Sadly, the same over-write situation must have happened with the
Outlook Express folder I had on D drive and I lost all my old messages and
address book. ~sigh~ I'm a hoarder, so there was heaps there that I never
would have touched again, but I had a draft message where I stored cool
ascii pics, another where I was noting messages from the archives with
interps AND all the retros I'd sent (which I was relying on for links to the
parodies). Oh, plus some fanfics I hadn't had time to read. I'll know next
time to zip these suckers.

Speaking of fonts though, no one happens to have 'Crawlers' or 'Anne
Crawlers' it might have been called? I'd have to pay to get it back :(

Must go check out BamBam... if I can tear myself away from font sites!

Yes I am alive. And drowning in email more each day. I spent the weekend
in Indiana with some friends. Most of the weekend was spent being
drunk, some singing karoake. Not pretty, but much fun. But then some
Ohio bitch gave me a speeding ticket. Ohio is hell!

Thanks to everyone that has replied to my posts or emailed privately or
signed my guestbook or anything else I may be missing. I really
appreciate all of your kind and helpful words. Sorry I've been such a
slackerbitch with replies. My email account crashed a few times and I'm
just lazy in general.

Current read: Brave New Girl by Louisa Luna. The main character, Doreen,
is very much as I was in high school. Sarcastic and lonely.

For those that like mp3s, this week's selections on my site are from
The Flaming Lips, Tom McCrae, Billy Idol, Dead Can Dance, and Norah
Jones. Get 'em while you can. And I recommend the Flaming Lips and
Norah Jones albums highly.

Damn Amazon.com! I thought I was being all clever by pre-ordering
Scarlet's Walk and the Buffy Musical cds at the same time to get free
shipping. Then after I check out, I see that the new Tori won't be
shipped to me until November 4th! Why me?! Why me?!

Anywey...

Cyndi:
>has anyone ever noticed that the entire beginning of Icicle (up until
Tori starts singing) sounds like it COULD be used in a movie

Sorry if someone has already pointed this out, but I seem to recall
that when Under the Pink was released, Tori said that the beginning
of 'Icicle' was based on 'Onward Christian Soldiers'. Or was I
hallucinating? Possibly both.

> I'd highly suggest that, too--the all natural stuff I mean.. cuz
>sometimes, loading your body down with lab-made chemicals isn't exactly a
good thing to do.

I tried the natural stuff first. Valerian, Kava Kava, St. John's Wort,
etc. The Valerian helped me sleep sometimes, but none of it helped the
depression and panic attacks. And I always worry about self-medicating
like that. Just because it's natural doesn't mean it can't hurt you. My
sister had a very bad reaction to St. John's Wort. But I do think that
trying natural alternatives is a good thing to do. I hate doctors and
medication and it has been the very last resort for me and I hope I
won't need it for long.

Megan- I loved your poem. I was thinking of the God video before you
mentioned.

>I don't understand snake cults. Why would they want to hold snakes?
Does it make them feel special or get them closer to god or what? Why
would you want to hold something that could easily hurt you?

I know nothing of snake cults. But there are two reasons I can
understand it. One being religion and it's ability to control and
influence people. Many religions have certain animals or symbols that
are sacred. I don't understand why certain Christians would want to
hold a crucifix since it shows their deity being killed. But I realize
they believe that's the right thing to do and that it brings them
closer to their God. If someone believes that their religion or faith
is truth and they are devoted to it, then they will do what the
religion tells them to do. Whether that is to hold a snake or pray to a
statue or confess their most intimate thoughts to a stranger or go door
to door and preach to people that hate them. The other possible thing is
just the allure of danger. I actually think holding a snake like that
would be exciting. But then I like dark, frightening things. Some
people get a thrill out of putting themselves at risk. It's the whole
basis of skydiving. :)

RDT History:
>On September 1st in 1993, list members recommend and discuss

I love the Griffin & Sabine books! I only read them last year, when The
Gryphon was released. An amazing series.

>Victoria- are things better yet?

No. I'm guessing it will take 3 or 4 weeks for the Effexor to work, if it
works at all. I'm still have the emotional rollercoaster. But I guess it's
good that if it does work, I'll know it's not just a placebo effect. Though
it was very discouraging when I had my first fit (as I call them) after I
started. But I'm trying to stay hopeful.

Has anyone seen Full Frontal? There one solitary showing in a small theatre
here and I plan to catch it Saturday.

Time to go.
