GOd, I've been liking this guy Chad since April, when I met him in a few of
my classes. he's perfect and i found out tonight that he's dating this girl
that is an acquaintance of mine. i've REALLY REALLY liked him since april.
she can go just fuck herself in the ass without lube. ok? that's just the
bottom line. i don't care that she deserves him which she totally does not.
i hope she gets influenza and dies. he's just the greatest guy in the world.
this makes me so mad. i just want to go to bed right now, listen to
scarlet's walk, cry and fall asleep and NOT take this fucking bio/enotmology
midterm tomorrow. i have this habit of throwing things when i'm mad. sigh. i
hate my life right now!

Subject: I'm going for a walk

I picked up the limited edition of Scarlet's Walk at lunchtime today. I
popped in to Virgin as it was closest and saw it was AUD$47. Ouch! So I
took a walk to Fish Records to find a better price. While I only saw the
standard CD there, they did have a display in the window and they were
playing it in store. It's not quite as far as they went for SLG, which had
the full display of covers running the length of the counter, but still
good to see her being promoted. So I went back to Virgin and bought it
there after all.

First impression - two layers of shrink wrap... annoying. CDs almost never
come shrink wrapped here, but I suppose there's a reason when there's so
many things inside Tori's box. I would have preferred to have seen the
artwork that was on the 6 track sample, but the box makes me think Sarah
McLachlan. I opened it and the little shoe charm fell out. I guess that's
Scarlet's Walk.

The road map cum lyric sheet is fine. Stickers are cute and I was a little
confused as to what significance of the "Polaroids" was. What I really
don't like however is CDs and DVDs in cardboard sleeves - they just collect
dust in that sort of packaging. Jumping way ahead of myself, unless you're
a collector, just buy the standard CD as I really don't see the value in
the limited edition.

Onto the music. that's all that really matters, doesn't it?

Amber Waves - typical Tori. A good song for an introduction. Could Tori be
Amber Waves, aging porn star? It could be a way of talking about how she
feels about the recording industry, in that they screw you over then and
ditch you when they think you're too old.

A Sorta Fairy Tale - I saw the video for this over the weekend. Weirdness.
I didn't hear the song while watching it as it was too distracting, so this
was the first time I really "heard" the song. I can understand why it's the
first single as it's the most accessible and has a UTP feel about it.

Wednesday - Seems to be inspired by watching too much TV. I find it a
little annoying.

Strange - Wistful is the word I'd use to describe it. The path on the map
seems to fit the song, but I can't really explain why.

Carbon - The tempo changes grate on my nerves.

Crazy - the guitar part in particular sounds familiar but I can't place it.

I've got no opinion of Wampum Prayer at this stage.

Don't Take Me To Vegas is another one that seems to fit the map, as does
the next track, Sweet Sangria. I know when I drink sangria, if sangria had
a sound it wouldn't sound like that so I have a bit of trouble reconciling
the two.

Your Cloud would be my favourite song as it's dreamy and matches the title.

Pancake seems to be a statement about society and shallowness. I guess it's
nicer than calling the song Shallow.

I Can't See New York has a somewhat ominous opening, then sort of opens out
into an epic Yes, Anastasia type feel.

Mrs. Jesus - Another song I like first time. Is this some sort of
continuation of God?

Taxi Ride and Another Girl's Paradise - I'm afraid I lost focus at this
stage. 74 minutes is too long for an album. There's nothing wrong with the
songs, but they just sort of blended into everything else, but of the two I
preferred Taxi Ride which seemed to be another statement about society.
Scarlet's walk then "woke" me up, but didn't really grab me.

Virginia is another song that has a UTP feel to it and the final track,
Gold Dust has a sense of longing to it and seems to be the album's Little
Earthquakes/Yes, Anastasia.

As a whole, the album has a LE/UTP feel to it, though it didn't immediately
grab me like UTP did on first play. Maybe it's one like LE which took me
ages to get into but then really blew me away. The album's ear candy - I'll
give it that, but I still haven't made up my mind.

I have been through the DVD once and was a little disappointed to see the
video for A Sorta Fairytale wasn't the one getting around on TV. It was
just a continuation of the one for Gold Dust. Some of the "Polaroids" which
are shown with Taxi Ride as music show up in the ones that come in the box
and they'll probably all show up on toriamos.com once the secret site is
available. While I haven't listened to Tori's commentary on the DVD yet, I
really don't think it's worth paying the extra money for it. It could have
been done as a VCD or just a Quicktime movie for a fraction of the extra
price. And here I was thinking Atlantic knew how to milk the fans! Epic
takes the biscuit.

I'll be interested to see what's there when the secret site is enabled, but
I'll have to wait until Wednesday for that. CDs get released on Mondays
here and while the site opens on the official US launch date, when you take
time zones into account, we've got to wait two days. Hopefully it'll help
me understand this album a bit better, as it's typically obscure Tori.

Hi folks.

Well I really hope I am doing this right! I've never been on a list like
this before, want to make a good impression and all.

I'm a new Tori fan, and have been reading the last 10 or so RDT, and I
figure now is a good time as ever to butt in and introduce myself.

I'm Vikki, almost 19 and live in Australia. I discovered Tori about 3 weeks
ago, when I picked up Little Earthquakes on impulse. I fell in love with it,
and have since bought every Album except for Strange Little Girls and To
Venus and Back. I've run out of money! I even picked up Scarlets Walk today
(I pre-ordered it, though, the CD store in my town is hopeless), and I love
it!

Someone mentioned CNNN, that show is just too funny! I love reading the
scrolling bit down the bottom, it just leaves me in a fit of laughter.

Anyway, thats all from me now, as my cat decided to unleash his wrath on my
middle finger, and it hurts to type!

Here's hoping I did this correctly!
-Vikki.

NuttyBakerGirl, I don't think there is a competition over who's the
sluttiest between Christina Aguilera. The thing about her is that Christina
was signed on to her RCA label and then imaged, labelled, etc. as a pop
princess, American sweetheart, pretty-Susie, cookie-cutter, virginal girl
and she didn't like that but she wanted her music dream to come true so she
went along with it. After a while she got fed up with it and wanted to have
her own self in her music. She didn't write any of her lyrics before. Now
she has many sides to herself. The "Dirrty" song is her
party-hardy-sexual-crazy-sassy-kinky-chick one...and I like it a lot! I
think there is nothing wrong with being sexual and having kink and sexual
fetish. On her other songs she has different feelings, concepts, etc. She
has a variety of great producers and great music and lyrics written by
her...it's really her this time and she's so much better than Britney...I
don't even think there in the same category in music anymore. Anyway,
that's my opinion.

Tori Amos Opens Her Secret World

Friday October 25, 2002 @ 05:00 PM
By: ChartAttack.com Staff

Piano chanteuse Tori Amos has worked long and hard on her new
concept-driven album Scarlet's Walk, a song-by-song interpretation of
modern American history. In celebration of the 18-song album, which Amos
produced herself, the singer has prepared all sorts of online goodies to
keep fans busy.

The disc, which will be released this coming Tuesday (October 29), will
come with a key to unlock the "bonus world" (a.k.a. "Scarlet's Web) section
on Amos' elaborate website. The bonuses will include extra songs, lyrics,
fancy Tori commentary and all sorts of behind-the-scenes videos. As with
programs like The Tragically Hip's Hip Club, Scarlet Web visitors will be
eligible for treats like ticket giveaways. Amos will launch a tour shortly
after Scarlet's Walk's release. There are three Canadian dates: November 20
in Montreal, November 22 in Toronto and December 9 in Vancouver.

"I wanted people to be able to discover for themselves the journey that
Scarlet and I are taking," Amos says. "In Scarlet's Web you will be able to
unlock the inner most details of this fantastic voyage, as well as a few
special surprises along the way."

WTF??! How do you do that, Cyndi? I'm so f'ing
confused!!

**newsflash** Tickets are finally going on sale
tomorrow for the NYC show, aaaannnd, I have no money.
If only they'd gone on sale at a reasonable time
beforehand, rather than only 2 weeks before the show,
I would've had money. But I wasn't able to set aside
the cash for that long-- most of it got spent taking
random trips to NYC to visit some dude that I'm dating
now.

And that guy that I'm dating-- ohhh man, he is
AWESOME. He's a quasi-famous standup comedian, who
used to be on the Opie & Anthony show (the one that
got cancelled because of the sex-in-St. Patrick's
Cathedral stunt). Now he's just doing general
standup. I didn't know that people could be that
funny in real life-- it is amazing hanging out with
him.

Oh, what a world, what a world.

You can go to bethcoulter.com (or hit the link in sig) and then hit the link
for "Meaning of Believe" below the fairy picture.

I'm in tech week for "Five Women" and it's fun but exhausting. This weekend
I had 11 hour days that involved a whole lot of "Hold Please" while the
techies spent 45 minutes adjusting the lights and sound. We get the
costumes tonight (think "Gone with the Wind" picnic scene in 'Agonizing
Peach' shades) and with 4 layers of crinolines, an underskirt and the dress
itself, the costumes make a whole separate character.

I really love my character (Mindy). I get to be funny and strong and caring
(not to mention gay), and I hope the audience likes her as much as I do.

So exhaustion is taking over and I have to get to rehearsal, so I will say
good bye.

Is there any buzz about Tori coming to the Rleigh
area...or anywhere somewhat close?

My brother pre-ordered Scarlet's Walk along with the box set which includes
a map of her road trip, a charm, stickers, pictures, etc. I'm going to get
that too because my kind brother is going to go to a store at midnight when
they still have them and get me one.

Anyways, I listened to Scarlet's Walk with my brother and his boyfriend in
my bro.'s room. This is my short review on it.

I thought the album was one of the best albums I've ever heard. Absolutely
brilliant. These are my stars.

+ - Plus more points!
***** - Excellent
**** - Great
*** - Good
** - So-so (okay)

Here's my scores for the songs:

Subject: Hi, my name is Louisham and I was a lurker...

Hi,

Thanks to the folks (ladies to be exact) for welcoming me out of lurkdom.
I'm presently in a rather depressing phase of my life and there's no other
(cheaper) way of venting it out since everyone around me seems to be very
busy with their own lives and it's so hard to find somebody to just listen
while you rant on and on about your miserable existence...

It's partly out of my system already because I spent a good hour on the bus
home from work last night figuring things out while listening to Ben Folds
new "Live" CD. Digressing, it's my 1st Ben Folds CD actually and so far I'm
liking him, I'd term him the freaky dude in the hat with the piano. It's
funny 'cause the CD cover has this usual "explicit language" label right,
but then right beside it there's another small box that reads "edited
version also available". Like why would anyone get something that's edited,
everyone wants to be a naughty boy or girl. Anyway from what I heard,
there's alot of "ass" mentioned but I wouldn't term that explicit, right?

Anyway I didn't get any answers from my 'thinking' session but I did come to
terms with the way things are right now and that makes me feel a little
better.

Moving on from the depressing stuff...

I reserved my copy of the limited edition "Scarlet's Walk" from Borders
about 5 minutes ago!! Yippee!! It definitely costs more than the usual
CDs, about twice the usual price actually so I wonder how big the box
actually is.

I reserved 3 other copies for my friends too and the staff had to check the
stock each time I called to add one more to the ones I'd already reserved
until finally she said there're no more stocks. So I tried to ask her how
many copies do they actually carry and, I think it's a
corporate/espionage/what-if-he's-pulling-my-leg-and-is-actually-from-another
-CD-store thing, because she nervously declined to tell me.

Well...I have a rationale that goes something like...maybe GOD does have the
answers to everything, or maybe he doesn't. Maybe he just makes up the answ
ers as he goes along.

With regards
Louisham
