Well, that was about it. The neurologist examined the MRI films, pointed
out my carotid arteries (nice and plump, not narrowed at all), and then he
immediately lost interest in my case, since I was "neurologically sound."
Then we talked for a few minutes about how we have the same model of Palm
Pilot, but he broke the on-button on his (eaming, oddly enough, that he
can turn it on but not off).
I'll get my ears checked next.
As B/4 (slightly dizzy but neurologically sound),
John

(I already sent this to Cyndi as an email, but then she posted the
question here, so I thought I'd post my reply here, too, slightly edited.)
Hi, Cyndi.
Just a couple of thoughts about your last couple of posts.
One is that I think going back to school is a great idea.
Yes, education and so on, but the best thing about college is
it gets you out of your parents' house and into motion. I
read a book on depression once (I've read quite a few, as you
can imagine) and it said that starting to take action to
solve depression is in itself something which makes you feel
better, since you're taking action as opposed to sitting and
doing nothing.
Of course, if whatever you're doing is no good, then
eventually it will fail and you'll be back where you were,
but even starting the work can help pretty quickly for that
reason.
So, "does it make sense that I'm only doing something like
going to college to give myself something to do more so than
to further my education?"
Yes, it definitely does.
As B/4,
John

No. I don't think it is a waste of time. At least
it's something. that person could be just sitting on
their ass all day. At least they are learning
something and hopefully it will help them figure what
it is they want to do.
When I started college for the second time, i wasn't
sure what I wanted to do. and now I am so glad I did
because now I know what I want to do and I love it.
I suffer from depression as well as you, and it has
gotten much better since I started college. I am not
on prescription anymore. I have sad times sometimes,
but it is not like it was. I feel as though I am
actually accomplishing something and that makes me
feel better.

Cyndi asked:

Well, I went for the degree, (I'm just talking about my final two years, at
UC Berkeley, here) but definitely got a lot more out of it than that. I
lived in a co-op so I got to learn about living with all sorts of different
people in an (often) cooperative environment, and also see people on a
variety of different illegal substances. Which, let me tell you, was an
education in and of itself.
Secondarily, I used the massive library and inter-library loan to read up on
topics of interest to me but otherwise hard to research (California history,
ley lines/earth mysteries) and wound up writing a book out of it.
Thirdly, I wasted amazing amounts of hours on the Internet connections
provided by the college, during which time I joined RDT and became
permanently entangled with you all. :)
AND I got a degree out of it.
