unlike Deadra, while i was in college i was actually more depressed
than when i was out of it. i've been out for almost two years now, and
the last two years have been the happiest of my life, more or less.

as long as you can eventually deal with the financial burden of being
in school (both during and after), i say stay in school as damn long as
you can. there's nothing wrong with being in school, just be wary of
burnout. i was so hideously burned out after my 4 and a half years at
Tyler, i decided to delay going to graduate school for at least a
couple years (looks like i will be applying to go for fall of 2007). at
least in the art field, i think it's important to time things like
graduate school correctly, while i was an undergrad at Tyler, i saw
many of the grad students there who had gone directly from undergrad to
grad with no break really unhappy and floundering and not really
producing much of anything. so there's something to be said for the
real world experience outside of school, as well as giving yourself a
breather from academic deadlines.

Subject: keeping on the learning

Continuing to learn new things is actually the key to keeping your mind
young (or so says a report of a study that was just released). I firmly
believe that.

When I'm finished at Regis University, I plan on taking Spanish language
classes at Colorado's Free University (very cheap, you only pay for
materials basically). I also want to take classes to learn to play the
mandolin, but that will have to wait until I have more time to devote to
an instrument.

I am also an avid reader, and one of my goals is to read as many
classics as I can before I die ;).

I also want to learn how to make cheese and beer at home, and someday
I'll take voice lessons and learn how to sing.

Many, many goals I have...

Roxanne :)

P.S.

Cyndi...I totally comisserate with you about the Art Institute. I spent
nearly 25,000 on a culinary arts degree--something I could have gotten
through an apprenticeship for about 5,000 or less. I'm eternally kicking
myself for that one.

Ah, college. I don't think it was a waste. It was kind of fun, despite all
the waking-up-at-5-am-to-write-a-paper-due-in-4-hours I did. Hell, I wrote
12 pages of my senior project the day it was due (it was a 50-ish page
effort, most of which I wrote the week it was due) and I passed! I got a C,
but I passed. I had fun with activities and electives though, not to
mention living with my best friends up here. I'll agree though,
depression/anxiety/other problems makes college a lot tougher. Many of my
friends suffer from mood disorders, and some have had to take leaves of
absences and stuff. They hide in their rooms all day, playing video games
instead of facing the world, and they suffer. But they usually still enjoy
being in college and find it better than the alternatives.

Oh yeah, HI everyone, I am the duchess of lurkers.
